- Dr Adel Bondok Anatomy Teaching Videos. The video describes the anatomy of the rectum: length, position, extent, flexures, peritoneal covering, relation, blood supply, nerve supply and lymph drainage.
It also describes the routes of the spread of the rectal cancer.
Nerve Supply of the Rectum:
The nerve plexus is present on the surface of the rectum surrounded by pelvic fascia. The autonomic nerves that supply the plexus reach the rectum by passing over its surface:
1. Sympathetic nervous supply is from the lumbar splanchnic nerves and superior and inferior hypogastric plexuses.
2. Parasympathetic supply is from S2-4 via the pelvic splanchnic nerves and inferior hypogastric plexuses.

Sacral splanchnic nerves are splanchnic nerves that connect the inferior hypogastric plexus to the sympathetic trunk in the pelvis.
Thank you again… sir inferior hypogastric plexus is formed by sacral sacral splanchnic nerves and pelvic splanchnic nerves. But where are the sacral splanchnic nerves interconnected? What is the name of the Ganglia? Are they already interconnected (synapsed) at the sacral ganglia of the sympathetic chain? Can you please help 🙏

Hi. I had rubber band ligation performed on three small haemorrhoids in my rectum/colon in February. It felt very painful. Will the rubber band ligation caused damage to the nerves in my colon/rectum?
The pain is from the lower half of the anal canal not from the rectum. The lower half of the anal canal is sensitive to pain because it is supplied by somatic nerves (inferior rectal nerve and peri eal branch of the 4th as ral nerve).
@@AdelBondok Hi. Thanks for the reply. But will rubber band ligation damaged my rectum nerves? Right now I am suffering from constipation every day. In the past, after I eat/drink in the morning, I will have a strong urge to poo. But now after I eat, drink in the morning, I will have a bit of urge to poo, but the urge will go away with the passing of gas in my rectum. I feel like I can't seem to feel the presence of stool in my rectum. Is this caused by the rubber band ligation?
