    Wow mind=blown. Goes to show there’s always plenty to discover in our sport. Don’t get me wrong, I love flicking a lure around. But bait is what made me fall in love with fishing. There’s something to be said about casting a live bait out, sitting back and cracking a beer with the boys and waiting to see what smashes it.

    I used these with the Team Catfish weight slides to make a ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxdmsDj7fQXe77DC0l7P7ua8B3PiESUubM Carolina rig and they were perfect for the ponds I fish. I have also used them to make 3 way rigs and these work perfectly. Haven't had any issues with them snagging in rocks or in weeds yet.

    Awesome fish...sliding started in South Africa. We have been using this technique for years...we even slide from the surf through the waves...you just change the way you hook your bait and shake your rod so that you slide your bait down. But for the past 2 years I don't even slide anymore, our rods allows you now to cast your bait out far enough. You don't have to slide a live bait out... awesome fish and Lekka video🤟🏻🤙🏻

    One other way to slide bait: I had an 18" surf rod and would tie a spreader weight and cast as far as it would go. Reel it slowly let it grab the bottom. Set that rod into a holder or wedge in the rocks real good and reel tight, the rod should bend and line remain nice and snug. Then...with a 2nd fighting rod you loop the slider on but attach it to your main line with a rubber band. You can control how deep you want it to go this way. You can choose to reel your bait back to check it at any time and then slide it back out at your discretion. When you get a hookup, the rubber band breaks free from the anchor rod...and you have your fighting rod directly attached to the fish.

    Funny story... I was looking at this style of fishing a couple of years ago because I have always been more for live/cut bait fishing in the surf, which on the sandy beaches of North Carolina USA is not a problem with getting hung up on weed and corals etc but very different situation here in Bali where if you want to find fish from the surf it means fishing over structure and even if you find a sand trough the current will peel the heaviest weight out like a feather, not to mention that the best beaches for fishing the wind is blowing either down the beach or right in your face at 20mph+, so this trolly system seemed like a pretty cool solution.
    And then one day while researching it I saw a very early video of Cavy casting off the rocks one morning before heading to work. Anyone remember that video???
    So, wow, screw live bait, I'm going to get into poppers, which of course lead me to Morning Tide. So, I actually forgot all about live/cut bait fishing and started learning and gearing up to become a Ledge Lord. Still have the homemade rigs as they're not available in Bali and also experimented with a two rod system so that the trolly line only gets pulled in at the end of the day...all gathering dust.
    So this is really full circle for me. Thanks Briggsy.

    This type of fishing was invented in Hawaii, by 1st generation Japanese Hawaiians in 1900's, it further refined by them in the 30's and 40's, my grandfather use to do this technique. It really got refined in the 60's. We tie our own rigs, use stop rings, 40# lead lines, 10 ounce lead with copper wire "claw", sometimes we use weighted slide rigs, but with out a doubt, the Auzzie slide rig is the best. We used so many variations of poles, fenwicks, half & half, sabres, lamiglass, now a days, hi tech graphites. The reels are conventional Penn 4'O with 50, 60, 80# test. We use this technique to catch ulua at cliff conditions.

    • @kapliger
      @kapliger 2 роки тому

      Doesn't the lead sinker get stuck in a rocky reef? I can't even throw a jig & let it sink down to the bottom. Snag guaranteed.

    • @hoksipgau
      @hoksipgau 2 роки тому

      @@kapliger , Brah, that's the whole point. The lead gets stuck into the bottom(reef, rock or sand). When the ulua "hits" it breaks the lead line. The ulua runs free without the lead holding it back. The stop ring prevents the slide rig from detaching from the litter line. You need to actually see it in the real and experience actually fishing this way. Only in Hawaii is this technique used....aloha'oi

And I'm not talking Japanese from Japan, I'm talking "local" Japanese, and their ability to adapt and innovate a fishing technique used in Hawaii. Now tell me exactly where your source for Polynesian slide bait technique that we use here in Hawaii, tell me about your knowledge of the Polynesian slide bait technique, tell me how you even know what ulua fishing in Hawaii is, tell me you even from Hawaii and you ulua fish. I've been ulua fishing over forty years, just like my father, and just like my grandfathers, and now sons ulua fish....Aloha'oi and have a nice day.

For sinker a pyramid sinker reversed for ground traction but the sliding rig we have a styrofoam float with about 20 feet of line attached to the bait, in your case maybe 5ft so it won’t hook up to the corals. When the float disappears under you have a big fish. Good luck mates 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻. 🖖

    In South Texas Corpus Christi and Bob Hall Pier it called Slide Line except there's a swivel that brakes off the anchor line and your just fighting the fish no weight .....its a 2 rod method....1 rod is your anchor and the slide is the one with the breakaway swivel that has the bait...fun way to fish from pier Bob Hall to be exact... at the surf you can see the reds and trout go air born and at the end of the pier tarpon and kings

    That’s called a slider rig. This is how we fish for sharks off piers in so cal. We have been fishing this way for as long as I can remember. It’s a great way of fish love bait or even dead bait. It allows the bait to go from top water fish until bottom feeders. It’s a cast and leave alone until you get a run. Change the bait every half hour.

    It is a very good technique. This is called a non teturn slide rig used a lot by the asfn shimano team for sliding big dead bait. For the sinker I use sinker with little hook that i hang in the stop ring with thin nylon when it hits the water the sinker just pops off th ring. It allows to use very thin nylon easy to break when big fish takes the bait.

    I've fished just like this before off rocks and piers...however we use 2 rods with a breakaway leader so when the bait gets hammered the strike alone frees the bait from the anchored weight/ trolly system and the fish can be fought as if you were fishing free line on the 2nd rod. Rarely does the fish get wrapped in the anchored line, happens far less than you think. It's a great way to fish crowded piers for sure.

    For me on the Mississippi gulf coast (Northern Gulf of Mexico), I have never seen this before. Looks to be like using an outrigger on the beach. I see those type sinkers at the store but many have a way for the copper or steel prongs to pivot and fold back away from you when pulled hard so you can retrieve the weight and use again.
