Thank you for the video. This is such a simple and great idea to put a zip tie through the side of the pot. I always struggle to get my small pots out of my big ones.
Thank you so much! haha and yeah those thingies are so great! I must say that the cheaper versions get stuck quit quickly. So I take the "cap" off, with the measurements on it, and then when I water my orchids I give a little tap on it with my finger. On that little red "thing" that goes up and down accordingly to the level of water inside the pot... That way you can see or feel if there is still water left in the reservoir or not. I learned this the hard way, some of my orchids where dry for over 2 weeks! ... But no I know beter now.... I hope LOL....
Hi..good information for growing in pumace. I just tracked down a 12Lbag at my local garden center for a very reasonable price here in BC Canada. I got my resevoir pots on amazon and will be transferring my tolumnias after the holidays. The question that I have is how to fertilize after the transition is complete. Perhaps y ou already have a video on that topic that I have not yet found. I Wish You A Happy Holiday 🎉
That's great! I hope it will work for you too as good as it does for me and my plants! I start fertilizing after they are adapted, I do have a videos about it and the products that I like to use. I will link one. But overall just don't give them too much and at a nice pH, I like to go for 6 - 6.3. And the ppm are in winter around 30 - 50 and in summer I feed them around 80 - 100 ppm. That's for every watering. Just little bits. I hope this helps? ua-cam.com/video/hYUbZvpyfwk/v-deo.html
I've just purchased several different sizes of pumice, I like the aesthetic. Do you have any Phrags or Paphs in pumice? Any comments of Slippers in pumice would be greatly appreciated. Thank for the video
Thank you for your questions! I just filmed an update on my slipper orchids, I thought that is easier. Just a look at the plants plus what is in the pots! It will be on my channel by tuesday. :D
Hello Eelke, I’m sorry if I’m spelling your name incorrectly, I promise to make that mistake only once once corrected. I’ve drilled through your videos and have a few question about repotting. I’m trying to understand the event that triggers a repot to inorganic media. In some videos, you’ve said that you repot from organic to pumice when you see new roots. However, if I understood correctly, I believe in one of your, repot videos for new “haul” orchids, you said you repot new orchids, right away. My question is, with new orchids, do you repot to inorganic right when you receive the new orchid even if there aren’t any new roots? Or, do you leave new orchids in the organic media and repot when you see new roots. I understand if you want to answer in a Q&A. Also, apologies if you clarified this and I’ve missed it. Thank you very much Wait wait…..I just found the answer. It was in the beginning of the second(?) video in the “how I transition to self watering” series. Sorry for the bother
Thank you! I am glad my videos do help! :D The best time to repot is when the orchid is in "active growth', so it is making new roots. But sometimes new orchids are in bad media or have bugs/snails in the pot. Then I do repot as well. But I do water them as I would when they would grow in organic media. So a wet-dry-cycle. Until I see new roots growing, then I will fill up the reservoir and let the new roots adapt to the new system. Hope this helps? :D
@@TheOrchidSaGa oh thank you very much! I’ve noted it in my book which looks an awful lot like yours. I am not going to start self watering until I get comfortable with repotting, fertilizing and just coming to understand orchids. I would consider myself an experienced gardener and houseplant person but I’m new to orchids. You’re channel is great. You should be very proud.
I buy it at the local garden center, they have it in the area where you can find all products used for your pond and pond plants. It is way cheaper there than online at a bonsai store for example. But the small pumice I buy online, I cannot find that at the garden center sadly. I hope this helps?
I personally like to try different media, and I did get some great ideas here on UA-cam as well. Once you get the hang of things, you know how that media works, it can be very handy. You are getting more and more options to plant plants in. Very handy if some orchids need something different than your `normal´ media. I hope you will film it when you start trying new media! :D

It works great! Thank you and I am glad you find this video helpful! :D
Nice set up. I’m going to look for those water level meter thingies. Lol and I love that stone look to, classy in my opinion.

Very well done and useful.. Thank you. I just ordered pumice and hopefully it is as nice as yours!
I and my plants absolutely love it! I hope yours is good too! For me it is very easy to get..
Looks good bud👍 I’m thinking about trying some different media soon.

Love your semi hydroponics setup. Is the hydrogen peroxide in the spray bottle straight from bottle or is it diluted with water?
Thank you, and it is the 3% hydrogen peroixe straight out the bottle!
