That’s a very nice vada too! And what they basically do give as advice I think, is do not feed a plant that is not growing. Vanda’s do slow down a lot here in winter. If you give them extra light and heat, they will keep on growing and then you can keep feeding them. Just look at your plants and see what they are doing. A good habit to get into anyways. I still have a possible cutting here from Vanilla chamissonis if you still want it. That's an easy, day-blooming vine with yellow flowers. Let me know and I will send it to you.

I water every week, I do grow them in self watering/semi hydroponic setup. Pumice is indeed a very porus medium. I love growing my plants in pumice.

I LOVE repottings like this! LOL.. There is barely any damage done to those roots… I love it when I see the first signs of spikes! (and new roots too 😊)

No water gauge indeed! I don’t need one in this setup because she is standing in a tray of water. So, I can easily see the water level. But well noticed! :D Always something to learn indeed, that makes this hobby so great. I try to watch and see how plants grow. So, some I know not to repot when new growths are starting, and some can be repotted when they are blooming. This one does make new roots throughout the year. Plus, if I do an up-potting like this, it doesn’t matter as much because the plants barely know that they have been repotted. One of the beauties when growing in inorganic media :D

Thank you so much. I am happy that she is growing so well too! Yes, I only use pumice and sometime syntic. Syntic is the inorganic version of moss. But I didn´t use it for this one… I hope your plant will grow well too! They can take off and grow very big I found. I love big plants! As they bloom they give such a show :D

One of my favorites too! For us very, very easy to find though. Yet still, a beauty and a “must have” if you ask me! :D I do she a lot of different in the colors. I did get this one because she has such bright colors, I love it! :D

Me too, those colors are stunning! I think they will grow well for you. They don’t mind the warmer months, and they love some light. Not as bright probably as Cattleya’s but still nice bright filtered light. They really start to take off here in my green house when it is warmer! … I hope you will find one someday! :D

A very good question! At first I tried the syntic on many of my plants to see if it works etc. But I noticed that it keeps the pots wet, very wet. So, if you use a lot of syntic, it will be to wet. I learned that the hard way. A lot of root loss. Nowadays I only use it on plants that like to stay moist, so Miltoniopsis and Zygo’s etc. Those plants love to start rooting in syntic. But I only use a little bit to get them going. I do not need much syntic also because where I live it is very, very humid all the time! It really works like the actual moss. And too much syntic in a pot doesn’t allow enough air around the roots. Not that easy to describe but I do hope it helps? Let me know…. And if you don’t mind, I might answer this question in a video, it is a very good one! :D

@@TheOrchidSaGa yes, that does help. I have trouble getting synthic here in TX, USA but I use microfiber. I’m trying out using pumice as I have a tendency to overwater a little, and we travel a lot. I’m hoping the semi hydro will help me with them when we’re gone. I have an oncidium type in pumice and just noticed a new growth so I’m excited about that. Absolutely, you may use the question! I love watching your videos!

@@LizE2654 Thank you so much! I will address this question in a video soon. What I did forget to mention is that I also use syntic when I need a wick. That’s when the inner pot hangs above the reservoir. But every wicking material should work fine, you don’t need syntic but I like working with it and I can get it very easily. How awesome! I am so happy your oncidium seems to like it! :D

LOL, yes, they are driving us crazy! … Cleaning the plants every time takes so much time, plus there is always a risk of rot if the plants don’t dry enough…. I HATE pests :P I think we all do!... Now that I do have a big collection, it is even harder to get rid of the pests, spraying the plants is a real pain in the behind. Luckly there are always nice blooms to look at and to make us realize it is worth the effort! :D Thanks for watching and good luck on the spider mites. I have them all the time on my Miltoniopsis orchids.
