- I Replayed entire game just to do the right choices and have the ability to save them and i did.. :-)

@@BloodRaider96 The dark ones wanted to live with the people of the metro in peace and friendship. But they can only speak to people telepathically, and when they enter a humans mind (apart from Artyom) they go insane. So humans thought they meant them harm.

old ass comment but want to reiterate, they did attempt peace. the problem was, aside from the fact that humans thought them as another mutant, their telepathy which is their only method of communication was far too strong for majority of human minds to handle which led to insanity or death. the only exceptions known in the game is Artyom who was "adopted" by one of them and Khan who might as well be the closest thing to a transcendent being in the game if what Exodus says is true
its too bad getting the good ending doesn't affect the second game's storyline

@@samalizadev it doesn't matter if they keep the saves or not, Last Light continues form 2033's bad ending and Exodus continues from Last Light's good ending.
@@rasmus3195 but then they would almost have to make 2 seperate games for each decision. I think they should have made the differences between the endings subtle and not so important.

@@Nicobutaca i mean those games aren't linear story games like metro. Metro last light is a continuation of 2033's bad ending. If last light would start from 2033's good ending then it would be a completely different game.

What happened in the book?
JSayelBaldomero Artyom killed the dark ones with the rockets, in the end of the book Artyom discovered that the dark ones just want to help, but it is too late, the dark ones were killed. I read a metro 2034 description that says about a 'last dark one' that survived the rockets(unfortunately metro 2034 wasn't translated to portuguese, sorry for my bad english). Read the book, it is wonderful!!

This is just a what if ending. The ending where Artyom kills the Dark Ones is the ending of the book that the game was based on, so Last Light has to follow that instead of this ending.
Yes, and the book's ending is a mix of both. Artyom realises in the final vision that the Dark Ones want peace with the humans, but he's trapped in the vision for too long and is unable to save the Dark Ones despite his desire to. At least, that's the impression I got from reading my copy of the book.
I know this is old, but for some plot twists: what if the dark one that Artyom shot at the end was the one that rescued him in his childhood...

Honestly, the dark ones do not deserve pain. Last light should've tooken place after the good ending. They only wanted peace, yet the humans saw them as a threat. I faver for saving the dark ones.
Oasis l In Last Light, If you prove yourself as a good person, the Dark Ones will save the Spartans, and technically make peace with Humanity afterwards.
Last Light was about seeking forgiveness for what you have done to Dark Ones, without bad ending there be no need for Last Light.
in the books, which should have happened in game, artyom realizes his mistake after the missiles are fired, realizing they wanted peace with humanity but the lack of understanding boiled into the war that was finished by the missiles.
They should’ve allow you to pull data from the first game some you can play the good or the bad ending in last light
@Benign59MB he's not Last. There is a hidden door in d6 and they are there. we learn that on the last mission in last light redux
I think that Metro 2033 and Metro Last Light were both very good games, but I liked 2033 a little bit more. I thoroughly enjoyed the supernatural aspect of the first game, which just wasn't quite there in Last Light. 2033 made you genuinely go "What the actual hell" with the anomalies in the tunnels, the maze, and the shadows appearing in the abandoned train. Last Light tried that with the phones ringing and the airplane, which worked, but weren't quite as honest in my opinion. Also, the good ending to 2033 was much better, with the Dark Ones going through Artyom's head and doing everything they can (almost possessing him and throwing him off the tower, for example) to stop him, while in Last Light it's oh look Reds, shoot them all, oh look the Dark Ones are here, they save us, wooh, now they go away.
Also, the ending music and scenery in 2033 were much more suited to the Metro Universe than in Last Light.
(and the original voice actor was much better, honestly)
It's sad how the dark ones wanted to help and also *spoiler alert for metro last light ending* Artyom figured out that the dark ones are the evolved versions of humans and now he has to save the dark one and save his *spoiler alert again* the last dark ones alive which are in Deep6 (D6) which is the last mission where *spoiler alert again* artyom dies after destroying D6 to save the dark ones
there is an alternate ending where he lives

Saving is the right thing to do and he even says say when you do such.
What the hell? I was never given the choice to either save the dark ones or destroy them when i played metro 2033. My one and only objective was to destroy them in order to finish the game.
You had the choice.Dont kill them and count that as a win.
have played through this game 3 times and have never gotten the option to spare the dark ones
Might be a bit late but that's becouse you need to do good things on your journey for example dont kill humans listen when others talk give a bullet to beggar and explore
this game remined me of fallout but still had a great premise on its own ,why cant more games be like that ,to have a grat story on its own but still remind you of greatness

I played the game twice, only because of this amazing ending, its just ...u no, ...absolutely beautiful how the writer and artyom said the words at the end: And the future, our future stretches before us like an endless Metro tunnel.

I remember i bought mine at the free station i think it was called where you get smuggled in the luggage of the train thing to go elsewere. That is also where i was first able to buy a vss.

The book has a mix of these two endings. At the last moment he understands that the dark ones weren't hostile, that they were human and wanted only peace, but right then, the Botanical gardens where the Dark ones live is hit and they all die.
I want to see a game for the 4 other Metro books. the second book is about Hunter, and the last 3 are about Minsk, Saint Petersburg, and I think Moscow again.
@PastaMunkey You can do both endings if the alien is there at the end which enables you to shoot the thing or wait and do nothing. Shoot it = This and not shooting = Missiles. If you don't have the choice to shoot it or kick it off then you probly have to start over or chapter select and make some serious decisions in the choices you pick.
You can wear both at same time? I thought it was just one of the other hmm i'll have to note that the next time i play. Did i understand you correctly?

Yea, I was confused when I first got the other ending. I remember getting weird flashes of light and sounds when you did certain things, but never saw it affect the game. This was when I played through the game again and made sure I made "better" or at least different choices. There was this one weird scene where you are forced forward in some sequence but can turn around and run through under blast door or something instead. Disappointing the second game didn't start with this ending instead.
lFlapjackl I remember those flashes, saying that they wanted to help me but this game is not explicit about the moment that you are able to make a choice, you think that it's just part of the storyline and you can't do anything about it. Well I guess I'll just try to be a better citizen...
Try replaying the game while immersing yourself completely with it, or just make yourself forget about the boundaries of a game. Certain aspects of Metro do not have those boundaries. Just think of what you would do if you were in real life. There's a door you see in the vision of the dark ones? Turning around is going to guarantee revealing another door, stuff like that. It will become a ten times better experience if you try playing it like this.
Thought i made all the right choices in the game... still didnt get this ending, thats alright tho since you uploaded it for us to see ^_^ and the next game is based off the other ending anyways. Thanks! :D
@Vlakc I think there is 2 or 3 locations to buy a suit one before you go on the undercarriage train ride i think it is unsure tho and one when you come to some big train station. I had the stealth armor

They don't save you a single time, but.. They try to kill you like.. Well, I had to expend over9000 bullets during the whole game or they'd have killed me.
Violent nature of man? Bullshit. Get real. Those are aggresive, awfully twisted, non communicative mutants, and got purged because humanity by no means could coexist with that.
This is the happy sugarcoated world of flowers ending where Artyom misses his chance to save the metro.

@chaklong Well, they tried to communicate, it resulted in death of those who they tried to communicate with and because of that they were seen as hostile. Throught the whole game, however, the Dark Ones never attacked you, just communicated in the only possible way for them.
I just realised there's alot more to this game than I thought.... Never knew there was two endings defo going for an 8th play through can't wait for last light, anyone else catch glimpses of dark ones after hallucinations? Like dead city when your passing through the playground bit?
I really hate how you literally had to do everything perfectly to get the good ending, I played through it twice and got the bad ending both times even after doing all the good/charitable things I could find including listening/sparing people and even rejecting the reward for returning Sasha to her mom.... wtf!?

lopojano its not giveing me the option to shoot the device it just skips to the procedure complete im just saying i got the good ending cause i would shoot it. Im doing this on the redux is that why?

I loved this ending, me and my mates watched me play the last half hour and i filled them in on wat happened before. When this bit happened i had about 8 people screaming at me saying "SHOOT IT! SHOOT IT!" and "Just Let Em Die!" and then i swear to god! I heard a voice in my head saying "do what you know is right....." so i saved them. It was creepy as hell, no of my friends said it. It was one of those moments

This ending doesn't make any sense. I loved the game - it's superb, but the ending is very disappointing. People call the two endings "bad" and "good" and this is supposed to be the good one. What?
You have faint visions throughout the game but none of them actually explain anything about the motive of the dark ones. They're trying to get into my mind saying elusive shit - isn't that something everyone would freak out about?
I am standing on a top of a tower, basically to die (there seems to be no way back, things collapsed, etc), one last chance to save humanity and I'm gonna abandon the whole plan because some weird creatures told me so in visions? Fuck no.
There was not a single moment of hesitation when choosing which thing to shoot. The creators should have made more effort in making it clearer to the player.
Still, not as bad as ME3... ;-)
And that's the point of this ending. That humanity has a tendency to shoot first and ask questions later. Never throughout the whole game do the Dark Ones harm you in any way. They actually help you at one point even. Only at the end do they openly attack you, and it's cause you're trying to launch missiles at them.

In the end of book "Metro2033" is an explainig. The dark Ones are really the next level of humanity. But they don't want to hurt people. They think, that they can help people to survive, and even to live on the earth, because they are adapted to live in this world. And they want to help their "older brothers", who die in the Metro.
I can't remember if, depending of the amount of moral points you get through the game, you can or cannot hear the words of the dark ones... But in the end, this is the reason why humanity fear the homo novus : we don't understand them in any way or forms... Only our hero, for reasons explained in Last Light.
One specific moment though, a vision where you are within a tunnel. You awake and hear people affraid and wounded all around you. Behind you, an endless road... In front of you, a dead-end with light through it. Then a dark one violently blast the wall and walks toward you, and you can hear the voice of hunter sayin' "run Artyom, run !" ... Any human would have run away.
But as I remember it, before the blast, the dark one talked to me, explaining their reasons to act this way... They try to reach mankind, to reconnect and to understand it. So... as the mad man I am, I toon the risk, and plunged toward him... only to Witness the Blue Sky, green trees, and hearing the words of Khan basically sayin' : "Try to understand it, before judging it". It never was an agression, this is literally how they say hello in their "tongue"... But narow-minded people can be hurt in the process. And their fear finally crush them. Only Artyom had the link allowing to understand... Only him was gifted to change fate, as Khan said, a sixth sence.
And this is were the tragic fate arrives... If it's hostile, shoot it. In a post apocalyptic World, between Monsters, nazis, paranoïa and despair... All is hostile. It was the only logical way this chapter could end. In a blast. Fire. And ashes.

@lordskyller I believe they only say that when you are lined up for the other ending. In this one I believe they say "he understands" or something else.
@SAOrules I thought the same thing. How many Laser Missile Guidance Systems can you find lying around? Not very many.
Choosing the right decision is so hard because although u can have the possibility of peace with them so many died for the peace being garanteed by the extinction of the dark guys

yeah the redux made sure you can't do it to follow the story from last light
well it makes sense now cause when you are helping bourbon get through the gate the darkone helps you by tugging on your arm and in the intro for metro the guards open fire on the dark one so it was just defending itself
man, this really changes the perspective of the game...I always thought that the red and white were heaven and hell...maybe I should have read the book first, I'm getting it soon now that i've finished the game
You´ve done the right thing. I done the book few minutes ago and I was unhappy that they destroyed dark ones in book. They waned to help and Arťom was the chosen one, who could hear their speeches in head like in the video.

But I read reviews that said it is horribly translated from Russian. Did you find it hard to read at times because of the bad translation?
what actions differentiates between getting the good/bad ending? I played the game all the way through and I recall only doing what the game asks me to do. I don't remember any part where I had a clear choice to make to help the mutants
i got good ending after i replayed it (on hardcore :D .... damn that was really hard D:) but i tried to make it without going step by step as it is told you in "how to get good ending" videos because duh they last for almost an hour no time watching it ... and i'm pretty sure i didn't do any step i just decided as i thought it would be morally right ... and finally i got the good ending ... you realize that you're on the right way (to understand in the end) when the dark ones do not always say: "he cannot be allowed - he will be stopped" but instead they say something like "he does not understand"
hey jack what about the choise, i mean that moment whe you go to d6 and you appear in a tunnel , than you have to choose with who you want to go, the dark ones or the people, what is that for?
Well i know you can buy both at quite a few different places what i was saying was that if you bought both would you have the abilities from both or just the one you just bought. Such as you have sneak suit and buy heavy suit do you keep the sneak abilities such as walking upright without making noise. Just a question from what that person said above.

Hehe i'm glad someone noticed in like 2 places in the game you can buy a Stealth Suit which allows you walk upright while making same noise as crouching. There is also a heavy suit but i haven't used it before.
You could chapter select but i'm unsure i believe you have to do a certain amount of choices to get this ending it's not quite sure what the trigger is but i'm not sure view the description.

@FRURMELLL Once you get to the top after everything you immediatly get the cut scene of the missiles launching you never have the choice. Check out the other ending for yourself it's quite different in some parts.
What happens if he walks through the other doors, you know, the ones where the bricks come up in front of you, he opened two doors that had light, what heppens if he chose those?

The book says that Artiom is the only way for the dark ones to communicate, and when the rocket launches they say that, and the dark ones just say that they want to help (they really want), but people can't understand them.
is it sad that the ending made me want to just tear up. it really explains humanity. well i guess i just love sci fi stuff or just regular stuff that shows one group misunderstanding another of violence when all they want is peace.
This game is an underrated gem.
@athieist And by the way man do u know at the first cut scene where u ride w ur friends when u lose consciousness and find urself seeing a dark one... what basically happened there? and when a mutant hit an human, the human will become a mutant too like sort of a zombie infection?
but by all this im trying to say, the only real way to end the war is by destroying the mutants...
They were merely trying to communicate and stop you from blowing them up. If only you'd realize that.
I also did everything that makes the screen flash bright and whispers happen. Just remember you have the choice the do the right thing and doing such is needed.

Try to load my last save but why i dont get this ending?there is no alien in the tower..
I'm guessing if you don't shoot the laser designator thingy you get a game over and must load from a checkpoint?

@LukeVerrierTV They are sentient human mutants with powerful telepathic powers,basically they can do Jedi Mind tricks which explain why Artyom almost killed his self.They cant speak and can only communicate with their powers.Problem is they dont know how to really control them and they have trouble communicating to other sentient species like un mutated humans.In attempts to communicate they normally "think them to death" or drive the human insane within a few days of the contact attempt.

Love this game, everything about it the world of metro 2033 is a masterpiece, this is a game that is something different, not just a shooter but a story that you can change. Morale is huge and your actions change the path that lay's ahead. If you liked the game or even the story or just this video go and do your self a huge favor and buy the book that created this masterpiece, best book i have read in a looooong time teh character development and the use of words really immerse you into it.
lFlapjackl, i played the game only once and i didn't have the opportunity to buy a new suit, so my question is, are you using the heavy armor or the stealth armor?

It is hard to think they're friendly when they have been trying to kill you till the very last second of the game.

I'm playing through now but I did a few mistakes ... didn't save any reds and killed every one in the stealth missions ... Is it possible for me to get this ending (haven't watched it yet but I'd like to get this one ... I just know it :P )
@Commanderlouis It's the place where the Dark Ones are born from. Their living and breeding grounds basically. Artyom set out to destroy it because the Dark Ones were viewed as a hostile species.

Hey can anyone help me? I recently purchased this game on steam and i finally got to an end sequence that looked something like this. The difference was as soon as the scene where you shoot the dark one ends there was no dialogue with khan talking. and i couldn't move after my character stood up and the bombs just fell. I didn't get to make the choice of shooting the laser thing off the tower or not.
Geat job on giving us the specifications as to what we have to, and can't do.
Shame I won't have enough time to play the game all over again, it just bores me, I'd rather go on MW2 and get 10th Prestige. (I'm 9th Prestige lvl 50 right now :D)
theres moments where theres dialogue you could listen to to get i guess light side points.
