Pilotage in bad weather Cork Harbour February 2021

- Here’s some cool video footage we captured of the Cork Pilots in their Interceptor 48 pilot boat ‘Failte’ undertaking pilot transfers off Cork Harbour during the recent days of strong SE gales. Roches Point lighthouse recorded 50kts of wind on the 13th as the Cosco bulk carrier passed and the Cork wave buoy 2nm off the harbour entrance recorded waves to 6.7m at the time. The pilot boat coxwain managed to get alongside and safely disembark the pilot despite the challenging sea state. Afterwards on the 15th conditions moderated, with the Gramaldi car carrier able to depart which we caught again nicely by drone. Respect for the Ports pilots and pilot boats crew in keeping the Port working and shipping moving in such bad sea and weather conditions.
can't imagine how the people from centuries ago sailed the ocean in wooden ships w/sails & lanterns. takes a different breed!
well, probably a third of them sunk so..
Ahmad
Err, slightly smaller ships with much less draft not carrying thousands of tonnes of cargo. Also, the ships then knew the hazards, these ships could be from the other side of the planet!

Pilot boat drivers not mentioned but very skilled and tenacious
Yes they are just as badass as the pilot big respect for all involved
As a Limerick man I’m not in the business of liberally offering praise to Cork folks, but this was great. Hats off.
Omg the sea is scary , hatsoff to that pilot
Well done Mr. Pilot
A hearty "Well done" to the Harbor Pilots in the video and a "Thank you" to the Harbor Pilots everywhere for they keep our goods arriving. In ALL weather conditions ! !....................And thank you very much, Mr. Frank Kowalski for making the video for all to enjoy !!

Their hats were off, for another reason.

Been there done that, have been on a smallish sea going cargo vessel we had waves up to 9 meters at night luckily only for one night, one hit was so bad it woke up the captain, thats when you know you are in some deep shit that was also at Cork, the Irish sea can be brutal on ya.
Same as that. When turn too in the morning and a lifeboat was washed off the deck during the night.
Harbour pilots in cork r true heroes out in foul weather in a small boat that size just remarkable from northern ireland
Look at the amazing interceptor!
Wonderful footage, i still watching it after 2 years!
I was a pilot boat operator in the 70's for Interport Pilots in Atlantic Highlands New Jersey. We lost 3 in January of 1978 in bad weather. I was one of the replacements

Wow!!! Fantastic footage Frank - Respect to all involved!!
Wbere is the piloto?
Stunning drone work. And hats off to pilots the World over for going out in conditions like this. I remember watching a programme about the Hampshire Police with their Botnia Targa in Poole bay. Talk about amateurs. There was a trawler they wanted to board but they had to abandon the attempt as it was too rough. Six foot waves. Pathetic. They should watch this and go back to their doughnuts!
Xin chào người bạn phương xa..biển sống gió nhưng con tàu vẫn vững ra khơi,,vận hành con tàu to khủng như vậy đòi hỏi thuyền trưởng rất kinh nghiệm và trí tuệ..chúc các bạn sức khỏe bình an🌻🍀🙏🌹😊🥰🌾
Impressive footage, txs for share !!! Greetings from Brazil.

BADASSSSSS THAT ALL I CAN SAY STAY SAFE PILOTS
Gracias por esta jente de mar bendiciones a el capintan y su tripul@cion y family qe los esperan en su hogar
لقد انجاهم الله
I can’t get enough videos from Safehaven Marine, very impressive and addictive. The local sea pilots in my part of the world, Port Phillip Sea Pilot’s, have been operating since around the 1830s and they operate in some conditions. Their launches are hugely impressive too but there aren’t many videos of them. 👍🏻

Holy mother of God bless these pilots. I've never seen anything like this.
Thank you for sharing the video
مشاهد رائعة جدا شكرا لك ❤❤❤❤
Frank, you can't deal with calm waters, can you ? ;-) Amazing!!!
Amazing pilots
Beautiful video. Can you name the music or send a link to it that started at 00:38. Thank you very much
I have never, and will continue to never complain about overseas shipping costs or delays.

😅😜😝😝😝🤪
I love ocean storms. Many years on ocean going tug.
Astonishing !
This is actually insane, never thought they'd operate in such waves
The world keeps spinning mate! They normally turn the ship so it creates a lee in the weather so the seas reduce, you’ll be amazed how much a big ship, especially a car carrier stops the wind!
M8t I feel sick already. Blow that 4 a job
@@pawaimorikutia1165 you might change your mind when you see what money they earn!
I seen a documentary on Harbor pilots and these guys work no matter the condition.Ship cargo is billions of dollars yearly so getting on and off is deadly sometimes but a must all the time. Love this stuff ❣️👍⚓

Respect pilot for control
As a lad I fished along the west coast of Ireland,,it's a hairy place in winter time,
All I can say is wow 👏
Can we say no
Aí da medo o mar está muito bravo. 🍇🍯🇧🇷
Da medo só de olhar, mas é impressionante
Hello dear how are you doing today uva e mel
Great seamanship. ❤
Very good shipping
Love From Bangladesh
Wow very danger the sea,,amazing
Salute to Merchant Navy
Wow Just dangerous weather
Harbor pilots are crazy but not crazy crazy! I mean they are brave because no matter the weather conditions they still have to climb aboard a vessel by a rope ladder that hasn't changed in a hundred years.⚓👍
Some amazing men do this job BIG RESPECT
Great seamanship 🙌 coming abreast a vessel that size in those conditions is not easy! It must have felt like being in a washing machine. Pretty impressive drone shots in those conditions as well

Ahahahahahahaha
This is why pilots get paid the big bucks. I’m actually in the process of training to become a pilot, but hopefully somewhere not as nasty as this, preferably somewhere like the US west coast (LA, San Diego, San Fran, Oregon, etc).
Wish you a great and safe career. ⚓👍
Parabéns pelo vídeo
You definitely have the right eaipment!
I assume the pilot was eventually picked up from the COSCO ship.
WOW! Thanks for the amazing footage. Will you allow me to use it in my video? Your name will be properly credited
Wonderful, from Bangladesh
Wow the best videos
Video yang sangat luar biasa.👍👍
tks so much
That's badass I have to say.
Very daring video
The big waves are so scary
Looks like Cork needs to invest in some choppers
=++[
May God protect them
Not always 🙄
Great&Epic work my friend Big like from Romania 🔝📽👍❤
I used to carry marine pilots to and from the docks in Port Talbot steelworks, South Wales UK, in my taxi. I often wondered what it was like getting on and off a ship, especially in heavy seas and in the dark. Not for the faint hearted
Insane waves here in Youghal last few.those pilots have huge corjones
Amazing!
Awesome view
Stunning !
I do miss the spray, the smell, the adrenaline...
Hello pilot is amazing
O my god I’m scared the pilot is doing a great job 👏🏼
Not pilot
No messing around with IRISH ☘️ sea love it

Cork is always a challenge
Sea never dry,One day to sea.
Awesome boats. But the dramatic music is not necessary. Its dramatic enough.
Being a sailors is not a piece of cake 🍰
i am a Marine Esp officer, i work with USA Cargo Ship, from Tacoma Seaport in Washington DC.
Yikes I could only watch that from behind the sofa!
Excellent 👌🥰🥰
It's ime to upgrade to chopper pilot service like other risky water ports worldwide.
Sangat berani sekali pilot boatnya..
Am thinking the pilot probably wanted to stay aboard . . .
