Would see John in jazz sections of Tower Records and HMV plus Rays Jazz in the 1990s. Never told him I worked in Whitehall until we bumped into each other at conference in 2001 when he was dp minister. I used to call him The King because of that huge department he was given.
John Prescott was the 'working class' enabler of neoliberal policies. He managed to get through the abolition of Clause IV on a second vote in 1994. This clause was a Labour Party commitment to the public ownership of key industries. With the 1997 election win, Prescott became deputy prime minister. He supported the encroaching privatisation of Royal Mail, and the complete privatisation of Air Traffic Control. He backed the introduction of tuition fees for university students in September 1998, when he himself had been able to go to Ruskin and Hull University with grants. In 2001 he fully backed British support for the American invasion of Iraq. The following year, he adopted an aggressive stance against the firefighters’ strike. He blocked the original 16% pay offer, saying it was “excessive” that the strikes were “unnecessary” and that the Fire Brigades Union should halt them immediately. Resigning from the Commons in 2007 with the defeat of Blair, Prescott subsequently became Baron Prescott in the House of Lords. Two years before he had denounced the “flunkery and titles” of the House of Lords in an interview. He now fully devoted himself to increasing his wealth. Every part of the parliamentary racket, from David Cameron to Blair, Starmer and Alistair Campbell, mourned Prescott’s death, with Jeremy Corbyn chiming in to say “I am really sad to hear that John Prescott has passed away. John was a huge figure and personality, from his seafaring union days to the highest offices in Government.” A salutary lesson that Parliament and the Labour Party are the enemies of working class emancipation. Prescott was not a 'working class hero' but, as one of his old seafarer ex-friends told him, “a fucking sellout.”
I always thought John Prescott did some things because his hands were tied by blair he ran for labour leader in 1994 i wonder what kind of leader and PM he would have been
How would one define limits to economic development? There will always be development to at least a certain extent and development can not be stopped and society return to the Stone Age. Kyoto anyway was something that never worked, nor have any subsequent treaties on the climate. Environmental and social and many other problems will always be with us, and can never be totally eliminated.
Corbyn received more votes for Labour in 2017 and even 2019 than Starmer has done in 2024 so the idea that winning can only be done on the centre ground is wrong, the only reason Labour managed to win in 2024 was due to unpopularity and mess of the Conservatives. 33.5% of the vote is the lowest ever for a majority government.
The only reason Conservatives won in 2019 was due to Brexit and 'Get Brexit Done', the Shadow Brexit secretary and allies in Labour decided a vote on any deal should then have a vote, this was more complex to explain and looked like Brexit was not been respected by Labour the man responsible for this Brexit policy was one Keir Starmer. Even in 2019 Labour received more votes and vote share than in 2024 on a more centrist platform, this means Starmer's Labour is more unpopular than Corbyn! Yes indeed, Boris is no more unpopular than either Starmer or Corbyn, down their with Dizzy Lizzy.

Jeremy Corbyn best PM we never had ❤
😅😅😅
He's a Hamas and Hezbollah sympathiser. Even worse than people like Starmer. Been blessed not to have that goon.
JC is vice chairman of retail, Eastern Europe? Really??
I love this. They're having a go at Corbyn while avoiding a legal action.
What is to love about

Best PM we never had.
Spot on
I liked him but come on, that's clearly not true, and he seems to have known himself that he wasn't really fit for a role like that.
@@_Stroda: He certainly would've been better than BoJo the clown.
@@MontyCantsin5 I'm assuming we're actually talking about Prescott, not Corbyn.
Then sure, he'd be better than Johnson.
That's not exactly a high bar.
@@_Stroda: In that case you assumed wrong. Try again.

Prescott knew the value of actually getting something done, rather than being a permanent protestor. Corbyn is such an old bore.
Correction. Getting Tracey Temple done.
Corbyn won more votes than Blair, Brown, Miliband, and Starmer.
Corbyn the best prime Minister we never had

Boris won because McSweeney, Labour Together, Starmer, Labour NEC and the tory client media collaborated to discredit Corbyn
bore off Jeremy
Why don’t you bore off
Corbyn, a well meaning ridiculous clown.
