Just wait until you hear “Time I” from the same rehearsals as this. Also ”Loneliness (Winter)” gives me chills. Jari, the vocalist, is also the mastermind and composer on all of their songs.
oh yes it is there, the deep low voice, Jukka, the bassist.. from Wintersun to Nightwish.. Not just Kai but Jukka too.. Jari the singer/guitarist is awesome and so talented.. oh and the other quitarist Teemu, he is equally talented and awesome. Well they all are!! what do you expect, they all come from Finland!!
And there is much more.. yes you need to listen it couple of times but once it grows on you, oh man.. maybe try something else from them that is not so much over the top for you. "Time" and "Loneliness" for example.
for pronunciation: J is said as Y.. so Jari is like Yari with the rolling r but if not we are fine with that.. just keep saying J as Y in Yari or in Jansen (Floor).. or in Yukka (Jukka) :) You are doing fine, don't stress it!
@@tarjatuhkanen7094 as Marco said to a concert in south amerika with Nightwish, that it was a Tango Country, Finland is Metal capitol of the music world 🥰🥰
I think I've listened to this song 3-4 times today (and it never gets old) by different reaction youtube channels. A couple voice coaches, and a former cinema composer who picked apart all the fine orchestral nuances and said their music was cinema worthy. I love seeing people discover Wintersun for the first time, and react with such jaw-dropping surprise to all the different parts, melodies, and compositional layers (upon layers), that went into making this masterpiece (whether they liked it or not). For me the transitions with Jari's range from growls to clean vocals is just phenomenally flawless. And wonderful Kai..like a human Machine Gun! The stories their songs tell is just as amazing.. A true 'gallop off on a quest' across snow-swept wintery landscapes. I saw an interview where Kai Hahto was asked: - Now that in Nightwish, how come you don't do that incredible stuff you did on Wintersun? He laughed and answered: - You don't do things because you CAN, you do what serves the song. Also, Jukka Koskinen (Bassist) is an official Nightwish member . NWSU 🤘😎🤘.
To me, the blast beats, and the rest of the rhythm changes are to give the feel of the cold winter of Finland beating down and then gloriously overcoming them. I could see listening to this as a blizzard envelops the world around you until breaking into a star filled sky.
When i first time heard this, i was wondering same thing, why the blast beats. (I don't like those normally) But because the song was so good, i had to listen it couple times more and after that, i could not anymore thought this song without those. They just fit perfectly when you found those couple layers which you (probably) don't register on couple first listen. And i love this. But they have more songs that are equally good. Greetings from Finland! 🤘🎶 🖤 🎸🇫🇮
I wasn't sure about this when I first heard it, but now I fucking love it, it's utterly epic. I come from more of a prog background so the time signature changes just make it more interesting. I agree though that Time is even better.
@@massivemetalreactions No... Jukka Koskinen is the bass player formerly in Wintersun, these days with Nightwish. Jukka Nevalainen was the drummer before Kai Hahto in Nightwish 🙂
I like wintersun a lot … that said, if I want to get worn out, I listen to this song. If I want the good stuff, I listen to their other stuff … keep it real, ✌️
I've been a fan of Wintersun since 2004.. Started with Ensiferum.. Just love to watch reaction videos, and read comments... Nice to see people get surprised and amazed. The first album is awesome to. "Beautiful Death", and "Sadness and Hate" ;)
i love blast beats in this song, but i also love that you re telling us that you dont like em. There is too much those reaction videos where everything is amazing and great. Honest reactions4tw. IMHO this song is 10 out of 5
This definitively feels like 'too much' first 5-6 times you hear it. Then, its like a story of a journey you can enjoy hearing every single time. If you didn't like the blast beats here, you might be put off in the future too. I disagree about the blast beats though, I think they fit very well into this over-the-top self-indulging fairytale adventure.
I am not musically trained enough to know what the blast beats are, though I think I can guess. I love this song so I am glad you reacted to it. Great job
I do not understand why people mainly suggest this as Wintersun first introduction (okey, I get this got metric fcton of energy) because Time is in my opinnion way more balanced track. ua-cam.com/video/4UMwLxFNKS0/v-deo.html Also you seemed to like singers voice so maybe check out his old band Ensiferum.
Jari Mäenpää (guitar, leadsinger) is mastermind behind the band and Wintersun started as his soloproject while he was still playing in Ensiferum. Jari lost part of his other lung during military service... so that makes his vocal abilities even more great. I appreciated your honest reaction... this song at first was too much and too technical for me, but after several (dosen?) listen this has really grown in me. For me Time from same rehearsals is the best metal song. That song made me really like black metal screams. I hope you react to that one. 🙏🏼 Other wizards are Teemu Mäntysaari (guitar, backing vocals), Jukka Koskinen (bass, backing vocals) and human metronome Kai Hahto (drums). As you knew already Kai is in Nightwish and Nightwish announced that Jukka is now their permanent bassist.
Looks like a vampire.. well.. I hate to tell you.. but these lands are perfect to be a vampire.. we get up to 4-5 months of darkness with atleast 1 month with no sunlight at all. :]
I do like this. For me this one of the best songs produced the last decade. I just love the off time signatures and also the blast beats from Kai. We all love different music and i respect your reaction on the song. I can only say i personally love this way more than the old school trash metal.
I'm not sure where in the song it is, but Kai put a sneaky little 10/4 timed section in the somewhere. He has a clip on his UA-cam channel where he plays it through
Good honest reaction! You nailed it when you said that often songs need multiple listens. And this definitely needs multiple listens. I did not really love it first time and 3rd time onwards I fall in love with this one. For example Wintersun's Time is a great listen from 1st time onwards. This one however needs more times
I beg to differ. You can never have too many blast beats! I appreciate your honest reaction and comments and I suspect this band is not for you. For me Wintersun are one of the greatest bands of all time bar none. When to some your better than everyone else I suppose it might look like showing off. Pink Floyd think they have a great song called Time but its not even close to Time by Wintersun. Your channel your choice, always.

You say no blast beats. Those who understand that blast beat can be used in right amounts in right place and it just creates urgency/chaos but its somehow controlled chaos. If you have give blast beats the time and opportunity and dont understand or like thats totally fine. I dont usually listen blast beat music but In some cases it brings more to the song. Have a good one!
I have to comment about the thing regarding the blast beats. First of all, I'm not saying you're wrong. I don't think you can be wrong regarding such things since music as a form of art is very much subjective to each listener, i.e. There's no objective metrics of what is good or bad music. However, this is the first time I've seen anyone hating blast beats and that's very confusing to me. This song is a kind of showpiece behemoth of a musical creation for the band which they used as the opening piece in their shows and it kinda starts the gig with a bang, like "let's fucking goo!". I can't imagine the song starting without blast beats, it makes perfect sense to me. I do appreciate your honesty immensely. Like I said, this is a showpiece and it has a little bit of everything and in that sense it's not the most cohesive song, but most of the other songs are much more cohesive and not going all over the place

Yeah, if you hate blast beats this song will annoy you, lol. The good news is he doesn't do that in all their songs. The composition is 100% the lead singer/guitarist, Jari. He writes everything. There is a very complex backing track as well that he composed. One of their albums, possibly this one I can't remember, was delayed quite a while in order for computer technology to catch up so that he could get the backing track the way he wanted it. There's a ridiculous amount of subtle stuff going on in it. That's something most of their tracks have in common, at least in some parts. If you liked everything but the blast beats I would check out "Loneliness" and "Time" as well.
Have to disagree. I'm not a fan of blastbeat either, but after seeing Your reaction came to think (and try) how the parts with blastbeat would sound with something else. Came to the conclusion that anything else in those parts would play against the guitars. Here it's completing the backing one. Also it's mixed quite low anyway.
Sorry I'm so late to this comment. But I believe you are right. The blasts let the guitars set a rhythm that carried and highlighted the hesitations in the rift.
It's a bit much, this song. I agree about the blast beats. Time, from the same rehearsal session might be more to your liking 👌🏻 I also would like to see your reaction to their Forrest seasons album. I think it's a great piece of metal art.

Don't act like they're dumb just because you don't like them, you sound like a child.
