I really like the added educational aspect. Seeing someone with basic Japanese skills trying their best, and the reassuring way everyone responds to her efforts, is encouraging. I admire Stephanie for that, and will use this as inspiration.
Stephanie did a great job. But her nails would have scared me. They look as sharp as knives. It's nice how politely she asked for help. People also seemed to enjoy supporting her 😊
Stephanie did a great job! I appreciate the similarities and differences between her and Shizuka, and I think it was a great decision to add another host.
Great job Stephanie! I thought it was adorable how nervous she was approaching strangers, yet she’s very confident on camera. I look forward to more of her perspective in future videos. Dine like a local
Great job Stephanie. Feeling more confident in visiting Japan with basic Japanese speaking skills. Can’t wait to try all the fantastic cuisine on my next trip.
I think this is a really good guide with the inclusion of words that are good to understand how to use and a good overall demonstration on how to navigate with limited Japanese. One thing I've noticed though is that Stephanie actually understands far more Japanese than she speaks
Dine like a local. This was similar to my experience visiting Japan a few months ago. I knew very basic phrases but the Japanese people never made me feel uncomfortable and were amazing hosts. I’ll definitely be back.
That was a great first episode Stephanie. Hope to see more great content from your team. I will try these great suggestions while I’m in Japan for the next couple of weeks. 😊
Great work as usual! My family and I will be there in Japan in the latter half of July this year. Looking forward yo this experience. We wanna thank this channel for all the hard work!!!
Dine like a local! I really enjoyed this video with Stephanie! She made me feel less anxiety foe my trip to Japan as a foreigner with very minimal Japanese. Very helpful!
Great Job Stephanie!!! I do appreciate the lack of Japanese language and the struggle communicating. I know it is nerve wracking but I think it shows the vulnerability of the show and host. I love it! Good luck on your future episodes and I can't wait to see the next one. Dine like a local.
These food selections looks so delicious. That Mackerel entrée was just mouth watering! Those were some great local recommendations! Dine Like A Local!
thank you for making this video! I loved following you with your apologetically but determined beginner level japanese. XD Your japanese is more advance than mine, but I didn't feel intimidated and you gave me confidence to explore Japan on my own one day. thank you again for sharing! dine like a local.
Hello Stephanie 🤗 I’m happy to see you here on Japan by Food. Thanks for showing us around Japan. All the food looks so delicious and I hope to visit Japan someday.
Hi Stephanie, congratulations and welcome to your new gig at JBF. This series will be good for anyone who’s a little apprehensive about exploring all the little nooks and crannies of Japan because they think their language skills won’t allow them to. Well done.
Well done, Stephanie! You took on the challenge of asking locals and you never gave up. Congrats! Looking forward to more of your recommendations in future videos. Btw, love the Australian accent. It's so cool!
Dine Like a Local 🤞This was a lovely video! Thank you for showing what I imagine my experience would be like! 😅 We’re going to Japan in a few weeks and so excited!! The ByJapan channel has been so helpful for planning and getting excited 🙏
Dine like a local Thank you by food for creating content like this. I went to those places that you shown before in your others videos like the hidden bars in Tokyo and the dessert places in Tokyo all sooo good.
Whoa! You guys found one of my favorite spots, Shirubee!! I’ve gotten wrecked there five too many times, but it’s a great place to bring out of towners❤
Dine like a local :) Amazing job Stephanie! This was super helpful! Your nervousness was so cute in the best way possible and very relatable. My husband and I will be visiting Japan for the first time in October for our 6 year wedding anniversary so all your suggestions were fantastic, and relieving to know I won’t be the only one who is nervous to interact with locals. Thank you again!
Dine Like a Local - As many others have already mentioned here in the comments, this was truly inspiring and encouraging on how far you can come with just a little Japanese!
Dine like a Local! My boyfriend and I will be in Tokyo for our first visit together in June 2024, and we would love to visit these restaurants🤞🏼We just subscribed!
I really like the added educational aspect. Seeing someone with basic Japanese skills trying their best, and the reassuring way everyone responds to her efforts, is encouraging. I admire Stephanie for that, and will use this as inspiration.
Japanese people are very understanding and helpful when when you don't speak their language 💕
Stephanie did a great job. But her nails would have scared me. They look as sharp as knives.

I think this is a really good guide with the inclusion of words that are good to understand how to use and a good overall demonstration on how to navigate with limited Japanese.
One thing I've noticed though is that Stephanie actually understands far more Japanese than she speaks
Usually listening skills are better than the speaking skills TT
The educational aspect is very good 👏 I will be watching this again before my trip
