No matter your stance on it. Aftermath having an entirely new story that is half the size of the one in the main game, is pretty impressive for a DLC (now whether the story itself is good is a conversation for another day XD)
Agreed, it was an impressive addition for a dlc add-on (albeit with a mediocre storyline). However, the things that made the predecessor games better were the alternate modes in those games, like the S.T.A.R. labs missions or tag-team. That was a missed opportunity, but I guess they only had time for one option and opted for the additional storyline. Whether it paid off is the fans' decisions.
It was planned that way since the beginning. What's to say that didn't actually have a negative impact on the course of the game's life?
True but was it really wanted by the fanbase? A lot of development could have been spent on overhauling the gameplay and making it better

The game needs one more update. The ability to go to the krypt and earn koins and hearts etc offline.
They need to "fix" the krypt in a way you only need koins to buy stuff, that's it, you just go around open chests, no "RPG" bullshit or having different currency, you play the game, get koins, and unlock stuff.

They went fucking overboard with the gun premise with likes such as Cassie, Jax, spawn, terminator, joker, rambo, robocop, erron black, Sonya. Not to mention he had ridiculous potential as well since orderrealm was teased in Shang’s ending as well… but no, let’s shit on Stryker after improving him on mk9 bcoz why tf not?
Also, I hate how much people like to hate on the guy just because he is a normal human when he is the only character that literally only has this and no one has took this from him yet. In a world full of gods, sorcerers, emporers, demons and ninjas, guy can still hold his own (I didn’t like how he can take on ermac tho).
Also fuck NRS for not putting smoke in this game as well. We at least deserve an explanation to where he was.
The announcement of the game ending support didn't annoy me. No what annoyed was the complete and utter silence NRS has with their consumers. They went dark for a good long while with no response about if there will be a KP3 or not. If the answer was always no then just say so and thats it. Dont keep dark for then just drop it out of the blue. It doesn't help Ed boon just loves to troll the consumers.
Also the fact that they straight up said. They were far from being finished around auguts, but then they released KP2 and left us with silence. One more dlc pack is not far from being done it's prettt close to being done actually.
I dont think there was going to be a KP3, but I think KP2 was going to have 3 more characters, and a few new stages...but then the pandemic happened, and legal trouble like losing the rights to use Ash despite the character already been finished.
Literally… all they had to do was communicate.
At this moment there's just speculation but maybe NRS didn't know if WB would allow to keep supporting MK11, saying there would be no more DLC could've hurt sales and even if NRS then dropped a KP3, the momentum of the game would have diminished. If they said yes but then it was cancelled by WB's decision, well the outrage for WB would be massive.

True but the way they distributed content & handled dlc definitely felt… off. I knew something was amiss when they had ppl waiting months to find out who was in KP1. Plus it’s pretty scummy to say, “We AiNt DoNe YeT, NoT eVeN cLoSe” release 3 characters (and a “balance” patch) then wash ur hands of things.

Add to that the pandemic, I think they originally planned to release 3 more characters, but with people working from home, it became imposible to meet the release date this year, for example, Sly recorded his lines from home, he didnt went to the studio.
Add to that some legal issues, we had confirmation from Bruce Campbell himself about Ash been FINISHED, and it couldnt be released because they lost the rights because another studio is making an Evil Dead game.
And paying Bruce, finishing the model, making the moveset, that is a lot of money that went straight to the trash.
I think they never lied or overhyped anything, they were silent because they probably though they would be releasing 3 more characters this year, when they lost Ash, and realize the other two characters wouldnt be finished by the end of this fiscal year, they pulled the plug on the whole thing, and started working on a new proyect.
Again, they never promised Smoke, Cyrax, story expansions, or any of that crap some idiots on UA-cam made you believe it was "confirmed" based on leaks they pulled out of their asses.
Still though Ermac not becoming playable even after all the concept art, model made from the ground up, motion capture and getting referenced a fuck ton out of possibly any character….yeah Snake is right sue NRS for false advertising!

It's a shame that in the near future these three games will no longer be available or get the dedicated support needed. Mk 9 has been taken off most gaming platforms and isn't backwards compatible with the Xbox One series. MKX will most likely be taken away in another decade or so what with the guest characters being the issue same for MK11. Then again one can argue it's the consumers fault for not getting the games at their prime but at the same time most new fans don't get into the series till after most of the games are unattainable at that point of time. 4/16/22 Update- At the time of writing this I was in the negative understanding of Mk9 and MK.V.DC never coming back in any form but thanks to Xbox we do have these games available for backwards compatibility so that is something neat.
I mean, will MK11 even work once it’s taken offline? Like the the majority of the game is online/linked to the online server.

@@Wiki1184 it’s not since story mode works offline, local fight against CPU or human players work offline, Klassic towers works offline and customization still works offline alongside training.
It’s only towers of time, currency, consumables and the krypt that require you to be online. (Not counting online pvp modes since those are obvious)

In an intro exchange with Raiden, Cetrion states that; if Kronika fails to reset time, which would bring back Shinnok, "a far worse evil will rise." Some of the arcade endings imply that the far worse evil are titans other than Kronika, and that balancing good and evil somehow repels them. However, considering her deceptive nature, Cetrion could've just made that up on the spot.

Ed Boon himself said they would support the game longer than any other game (for years) at the MK11 reveal when they interviewed him. Not just some tweets.
The problem isn’t how much content it has compared to other NRS games, it’s how much content it has compared to other fighting games, when Street fighter, Tekken, Smash and Dragon Ball Fighter Z are still getting supported while MK has finished support (even though there are still heaps of issues) and is at least 2 years (probably 4) away from another title, what’s keeping me from jumping ship, I don’t have time to invest in all the fighting games out there and I’d rather invest in a game that’s going to last.
I stopped playing mk11 regularly a while ago and honestly Tekken 7 (Tekken was one of the first game series I got into as a kid) DBFZ and SFV are looking really appealing, if NRS can’t justify investing their time and money into supporting MK11 then that’s fine, but I can’t justify investing my time and money either.

The reason I stuck with MK11 as long as I did is because I thought there was more to come and they were going to fix the numerous issues (something NRS was happy to let the fans believe) but turns out I was wrong and now my options are stick with a dead game that ended in a less than ideal state or move to another franchise, and Tekken 7 is looking pretty good right now.

Well generally the games you just named off have smaller budgets and have to make their games last inorder to even get another title.i mean tekken is probably not gonna release another game in about 4 years simply because it can't. They probably only have the resources to put a dlc character in here or there. Mk is like the cod of fighting games and I generally like the idea, because after a few years, playing the same game gets old, even if they try to revamp the system.

I have a few thoughts. Why would it be profitable for Tekken, Smash and Street Fighter but not Mortal Kombat? I understand they have a full team to support but so do the other franchises. Also surely adding a extra stage and couple of characters every year wouldn't distract significantly from making a new title. Just have a small B team maintaining support. DLC after all has some of the highest margins of all software content. Agreed about the length and amount of content been "good enough" though.
Namco Bandai, Nintendo & Capcom all have other studios to work on other projects that lessens the financial risk if the post game content fails to sell (key word IF)
NRS however are a studio that WB use for their own games, which means they don't have that financial leeway, especially if we also take into account the rumours of a sell off
Games like tekken, sfv, etc aren't the main games in their bandinamcos game list, so they can be supported for longer since its not their biggest money maker. Their budgets are generally smaller so they have to spread content out for a long long time. Nrs is one of WB's premium game studios so they in fact get the budget and have to make more games due to contract and money reasons. It's like cod and why cod makes a game every year while ea/dice only make a battlefield every 4 years

Developing characters is time-consuming.
With 37 characters at two variations, a new character has to be tested at very least 148 times. That would be a single match with each character in each variation, which isn't adequate playtesting.
So that would not include very particular setups, scenarios, hit and hurt box interactions for every neutral, special, x-ray, throw etc.
That's only the shallowest of explanations for just testing the character.
There would have to be 148 in depth sessions of testing.
You still need concepts and design et all before that.
For larger developers that control their cash flow, it can be sustained if the retention and new uptake are there but when you have a parent company to answer to, it's not a simple case of they can just keep working on it.
If WB says stop, they stop.
You also need enough staff to have a b team. Sadly, they will probably be allowed to employ for initial development, then scaled back after initial release.

Having seen the most recent live-action Mortal Kombat movie, I still think the 1995 one is the best. The former has some of the same problems as Mortal Kombat: Annihilation.
Let’s start hoping that Injustice 3 and MK12 will be better than this.
And get a more satisfying conclusion than a small balance patch.
I've been hoping for a while that there *won't be* an MK12 at all. it least, in any sort of forseeable future. NRS peaked with MKX and decided to throw away most of the good ideas from there. don't even get me started on the marketing, "plot" and monetization choices for 11. I'm sick of my favourite franchise being done dirty like this.
@@JahlisMan MKX is plainly just a better game than MK11, and I am not the only one who thinks this. 11 really only has graphics going for it (it is a beautiful game). Otherwise, MKX is vastly superior with gameplay (being faster pace and the variations allowing for more options), a VASTLY superior roster with more fan-favorites and better guest characters, a story that's not perfect but is still way better than 11, and just the overall style of the game being better.
What I hated was nrs saying it was the “longest supported game” yet for months upon months it was total radio silence.

All I've learned is definitely true in this whole debacle is that NRS generally doesn't support games for long, especially compared to other fighting game makers. That said, despite having no real sympathy for them or Ed Boon, I imagine this entire affair is Warner Brothers's fault given the other recent instances of very public incompetence it's made for the past decade (called the DCEU), and that WB is probably just letting NRS get thrown under the bus here as the much smaller company.
I wouldn't be surprised if WB was forcing NRS to currently work on _Injustice 3_ with some type of _Flashpoint_ tie-in for that DCEU version of it I think might still be coming out. It's hard to know though given WB's incompetence with the DCEU has shown they barely have an actual plan themselves most of the times beyond "make money at any cost". The failure of the latest terrible live-action _Mortal Kombat_ movie might well have been a factor too though, to the point that I'm bit surprised I didn't consider that before this video; it's probably because that movie was such a nothingy thing I legitimately forgot it existed already due to having sub-zero desire to watch it.
I never saw that movie and I forget it exists too like that Monster Hunter movie lmao.

I agree with what you said but i think most of people is mad bc of the quality of all dis content. the gameplay is not that good, the flawless block and the break away are a pain in the ass, 3/4 of the skins and 95% of the recolors are bad and look awful compared to the concept art, the pay to win guest characters (especially joker) and the amount of guest characters, the npcs that didnt make it to the roster (again), the lack of 3d era characters, the lack of characters that were on the mkx story but somehow are not in mk11 story, the finale that make us go to the tournament AGAIN like if we havent seen it multiple times (hell we even have a another movie coming out about it), the intertnet paywall for most of the modes to play and, personally, ed "joking" about us being self entitled bc we want good content for once without things like all the things i named before, retcons or skarlet being horny for her ADOPTIVE FATHER, doesnt sit right with me after the amount of money i did spend on dis game hoping it gonna have something good at some point.

Lots of people were defending aftermath when it came out like fucking fan boys when there was so many things fucked with aftermath, I got to mention:
- who tf wanted robocop (as a matter of fact, where is Stryker and he was defo requested by a few people too)
- fujin was the only mk character that was great but that’s it, no one wanted sheeva
- why tf was the expansion 2/3 of game price
- story was just as bad as base story: character assassination, metaphorically and literally (both of the Kahns, sheeva, sindel), plotholes, ridiculous powerscaling and the most stupid plot that doesn’t make any sense at all to defeat the villain
- breakaway was made ten times worse now with the addition of some kbs as armor breakers
Kp2 was terrible. Rain was the only one decent(good story, skins, visuals, gameplay is trash but better than rambo and mileena but all of that is taken away by the fact why do we have to pay for him again)
Kp1 was barely passable as a kp: nightwolf, Shang and spawn were done remotely well with only a few things holding them back. The reason I said why barely passable bcoz of terminator being a literally a Jason copy, joker was another con as a whole and Sindel’s character was bastardised in this game - Sindel and joker would be the major contraversies in the kombat pack.
All in all, this game was on the most part terrible in content(kp1 was the only decent pack out of the 3 dlcs) but fanboys do not want to admit this at all
Yeah think the real issue most people had was the lack of communication and then the notion that ALL FANS are "toxic" for asking for better community communication and updates.
Whenever they get to mk12 can they please just keep that design for Ermac? It looks so sick and it sucks we never got to play that version of him.

The amount of dlc you get does not matter if a game is only supported for 1 or 2 years while other games last way longer dude. It was not the most supported game at all.

I don’t understand why people say that MK11 wasn’t NRS’s longest supported game (besides mobile) when there is clear evidence of it. What I DO understand is the bad taste left in peoples’ mouths after about half a year of silence from NRS to stop financial support. While they have technically supported this mainline title the longest, they were super unprofessional about it. In fact, many characters still suffer from various gameplay issues that need to be tweaked like Shang’s Ermac lift not connecting in the corner or how Rain has to spend almost all his bar to get a measly 31-35% where some don’t even NEED bar to reach that. Basically, this whole situation could have been handled a lot better from both NRS and the community. Hopefully NRS can learn to become more interactive with their community and the community can learn to respect NRS’s decision with the game THEY create.
NR needs to stop adding characters in the games, yet not making them playable. It's a complete tease to have Cyrax and Sektor be in MK11 with full movesets, yet they are not playable.
Also they teased Ash Williams being in the game yet backed out at the last second and acted like we didn't see a chainsaw in one of the trailers. What nonsense.

Bandai Namco and Capcom actually had more than one fighting game receiving support on the side from their big titles with Soulcalibur VI and MVCI. Well the second was a big mess but SCVI received two season passes with 8 characters (all but the 2 guests had their own individual story modes), music, stages and tons of customizations options that spanned from October 2018 to December 2020. And the fans (including me) complain about the lack of attention the series and this game got even considering the gameplay got really big changes in its system since the release.
If I have to wait another 6 years for Sareena then oh my gosh NRS

A little late on this, but the amount of folks banging their fists at NRS and challenging length of support was ridiculous. As you pointed out, in many different areas, MK11 blew every other title away with “support”.
I'm still piss that NRS for this,alot of characters,skins,and stages wasted and waiting 8 months for something makes it even worse.

My problem with NRS' games is that they make a pitiful amount of dlc content in comparison to their competition and they release said dlc in such a short span of time, which makes their games have such short life spans which leads to a 2 year if not longer drought in between game releases.
I want to get back into MK but I haven’t played my console in a while ever since I got my PC.
My favorite Mk game is now 10 years old. Yes I said it Mk9 is my favorite Mk game that game is my childhood Mk game. I still think midway had better storytelling but mk9 is still my favorite to play.

What are your thoughts about the idea which I will speak about? I wish so bad they did an option, which allows us to costumize every character's model like skins in MK11 game. For example, we picked Scorpion, and we can make him bigger with big muscles 💪 as it was in MK9 or MKX.
Or make him a little thinner like Liu Kang, that's what I mean. It was possible only in MKA for PS2 during creating your own fighter.

I'm going to state my reasons for being annoyed at netherrealm, I'm not angry just annoyed
radio silence - listen you don't HAVE to be super open with your fanbase but going radio silent on all news for 6+ months is not a good marketing strategy.
story modes being lackluster - no explanation needed
character personalities or motives being unclear/stupid - I can name a few characters, twindel, shao kahn, jade, raiden and d'vorah (no seriously where's her motive?!)
new characters being USELESS - looking at kronika's little gremlins.
Charcters being useless - Jacqui (I'm sorry it has to be said), Skarlette, Erron Black, Cyrax, Frost, Sonya (younger), Kollector, Shao Kahn himself, oh my I could go on and on and on!
though to end on a lighter note some things I did like in mk11 - kitana's personality, cassie's personality, Johnny (MVP of the whole game), Liu Kang and Kung Lao's friendship, Kung lao(story mode)! Shang Tsung (MVP of aftermath), Fujin,

I think the reason people are so upset is because of how lacking the roster is. Still have no clue why we don't have more of the x roster or old characters like havoc. Also I know the guest characters sell more but I think people are tired of them and would rather see brand new characters added to the roster and lore like almost all the other big name fighting games do
This why this franchise is dying they refuse to bring back older character(3D) milk guest characters which don't sell that much which is a lie, and continue to shit on existing characters. Yea I'm done with this franchise

I was so disappointed with MK11 that I just distance myself from the franchise. MK won't be good until someone buys the IP from WB but thats my opinion

3D era characters I would like to see comeback: havik, hotaru, nitara and onaga. I think they can do a lot, gameplay and story

Also it's important to note that long supported games like SFV and Tekken 7 had fewer content at launch compared to Mk11. Decent launch content something I usually give NR studios credit for. I just hope they get rid of pre-order DLC characters who are fully functional at launch.

I speak for myself when I say I don't care that they're not adding more to the game after the character assassinations(especially Sindel) and the woke ideologies. When it first released I spent $60 only to get a terrible base roster, then more money on Dlc characters, Aftermath, and Ultimate. I'm not against paying for a little more content I'm just saying they should've made the game feel complete then do add ons.

About the point in terms of support compared to games like Tekken and SF: There's also the factor that these games are low budget titles for Bandai Namco and Capcom respectively. NRS games are AAA budget.
This is also why they can't juggle multiple games like Arcsystemworks. ASW has multiple teams working on the different titles (this is why "Team Red" was used when announcing Guilty Gear Strive, while their other team was working on Granblue and probably Dungeon Fighter now).
That is simply not how WB wants to spread their assets. They put a high budget and want very high production value, it takes the whole of NRS to do that. So NRS can't just juggle MK11 while also making their next game at the same time, that's simply not what the publisher wants them to do.
Besides NRS games sell way more hard copies than any of these other games. Tekken 7 has been out for 4 years on consoles and it still sold less hard copies than MK11 did within 1 year. NRS attracts the casual crowd which is more likely to buy the hard copy and less likely to buy additional DLC, while the other games don't sell as many copies but more DLC since more of the hardcore playerbase plays online.
I mean I love Strive right now, but they are celebrating 500k copies right now... which is laughable compared to WB/NRS numbers.
WB is probably more interested in shipping copies of a new game to millions and millions of people rather than selling DLC to 5-6 digits amount of people.

Bruh, if they supported this game as long as SFV & Tekken 7, it'd be 2031 before we get MK12 IF Injustice 3 is their only other game they make (which would follow MK11's lead and also be supported as long). And if that Marvel Fighter is true, that'll move to 2037 if WB don't decide the IP is still worth it.

I do not get how as a New Player one should get into MK with Modern MK that is.. The Story Modes seem to be more like shitty Asspulls than meaningful Narratives.. though that might be true for most New Fighting Game Releases. SF5 tells almost the exact same Story as the Alpha3 Arcade Mode Playthrough, Injustice2 sucks because Injustice doesn't work on it's own, Dragonball FighterZ's 'Story-Mode' is a 3folded mess, but back to MK, what is the main draw of MK today? They underutilize their Villains, fuck up their existing Characters and what do they offer instead?

To be honest i feel like MK games these days really lost its touch especially when Sindel was generic villain washed compared to her more well constructed character she had in the older games. The rest have either been badly written or straight up underutilized to the point they're regularly forgotten about. The current writer is so bad, we need a new one that actually has respect for the franchise

The amount of dlc you get does not matter if a game is only supported for 1 or 2 years while other games last way longer dude. It was not the most supported game at all.

I'm worried about people's conceptions of "supported" game. I mean, the best example of an actively supported game should be Brawhalla - a game released complete and without any downside. And we have, uuh... SFV. An extremely capped game at its launch with more than half the rooster obtainable with micro-transactions. I mean, guys, is that serious? They took almost as long to fix this game as CDPR took to fix Cyberpunk 2077, perhaps even more.
And as Snake said in the video, NR is a small studio with a limited schedule. Meanwhile Namco and Capcom have plenty of time to work as much as they want with tittles they have. Ofc, NR's communication skills suck real hard.
Injustice 2 was actually supported from May 2017-March 2018.

For me, my only complaint was the number of guest characters in this game, three of which no one asked for, those characters taking up valuable roster spots omitted characters that fans WERE requesting like fan-favorites like Reptile, Ermac, and Kenshi should've gotten.

PS: injustice 2 actually was supported may 2017- MARCH 2018, tmnt were released in february and the complete edition and the final patch came out a month later, but surprisingly we had a new patch on monday, many people assume that is related to the future announcement of injustice 3
they just need add classic characters for old fans (original characters very improtant - cuz its are MK, characters for fighting game - flesh and bones), more game modes (tagteam etc) keeps players interested. Cuz after all only they still play MKs, other dont givasht actually, just some streamers walkthrou unnecessary story dlc. As MK fan, i feels this game little empty, not completed. Mb i wrong about reasons, mb its about fight gameplay system. But I haven't played the game for a long time, i bored so quickly
