Hey subfuries! I think I worked harder on this video than any one before - so I really hope you like it. Love you guys #allhailmishka What other questions do you have about Avatar? Tell me down below! PART 1 OF THIS THEORY: ua-cam.com/video/XwdqDv91eVo/v-deo.html PART 2: ua-cam.com/video/LXJ4gQg8CbQ/v-deo.html ~ Tim
Hello Future Me Hi! great video, super interesting! but there was one thing I couldn't stop thinking about throughout the video: if you're saying Amon 'breaks' or damages those meridians, how was Korra able to get and give others their bending back? Could she possibly fix a damaged path? or maybe the paths were just more seriously blocked rather then broken? I'd love to hear your opinion on this topic!
Also, favorite villain would be Zaheer, I appreciate the fact that he's so educated in the air nomad philosophy, so much that he can fly! I wish I could fly!
Amon seemed to worry Korra in a way no other villain did. When you first see him remove someone's bending, it feels like you're watching somebody die. It really puts a new spin on what Aang did to Ozai
That is why Aang only used that ability only twice in his life, and only when there was no other choice (Other than Killing) take a person's bending away is taking away an integral part of who they are, is kinda like riping off the dominant hand a of a Violin concertist or a person in general, you can't just replace that. When Aang use this ability to remove bending, he only did it when there was no other viable option left (Other than killing) in Ozai's case, it was the only way besides ending his life that he could stop him for good and also remove the tittle of Fire Lord from him so that Zuko could step in to restore armony in the Fire Nation. In the case of Amon's Father (Whose name I totally forgot) he proved to be a waterbender so powerfull that no only he could bloodbend without a full moon, he could also bloodbend WHILE being physically restrain, and I would like to point out that later on the show also feature a waterbender capable of bending despinte not having arms, so even cutting off his arms had a chance to not being a permanent solution, removing the guy's bending ability entirely was the only option left Aang had
yeah, it shows when korra was really terrified of amon. Imagine your whole value as a person is in your bending and someone have the ability to take it away.
@@carmcam1 Especially as Korra's whole value to society was dependant on her ability to bend all elements, so if that was taken away she would effectively no longer be the Avatar (and it was before she got airbending and of course Aang spiritbended her to give her full bending back)
He's just placing blood into the chakra points and pretty much clotting it so that they can't be accessed anymore. You're really questioning the "how" in a show where people can shoot fire because magical dragons breathed on them?
Bloodbending in TLA: A terrifying version of waterbending that can manipulate a person’s body against their will, however it is limited as it can only be used under a full moon Bloodbending in TLOK: Literally the force
Amon was a waterbender prodigy raised by a psychopathic bloodbending father who forced them to practice everyday during their childhood. Katara and that old lady just learned about it. Amon trained and honed it to the twisted perfection it is
Amon probably had heard stories, anecdotes and interviews of witnesses to Avatar Aangs' removal of a persons' bending abilities (Fire Lord Ozai and his own father), for example. To create shock and awe and inspire a sense of greatness to the character of 'Amon', crafting the imagery is important. Emulating the removal of bending abilities similar to how Avatar Aang did- would give him a legitimacy of being chosen by the spirits and lay credence to his story. Its very interesting (even hilarious) that he is touching the -illusion- chakra. Because that is exactly what it is. An illusion.
Aang's technique involved "energy bending" however ("taught" to him by lion-turtle) so I personally am left to assume that Amon's blocking is different in the ways mentioned by the video.
I think it is fair to argue that Amon didn’t know how to severe the specific connections of specific chakra, but rather he analyzed the flow of chi through the body and would block the most dominant chi pathways. In a bender, it’s fair to assume that those pathways would be associated with that person’s bending. I think if Amon didn’t know or was unsure on how to block Air bender abilities, he would have taken one of Tenzin’s family aside to test it out before trying on the whole family in front of everyone and risking failure. Therefore, he must have devised a reliable way to always succeed, which what I described above is I think that way. It also makes sense for Korra. When Amon took her bending, she had yet to air bend successfully. Because of this, the pathways associated with air would have likely been unused and therefore slide right under Amon’s radar. Whereas, the pathways for the other elements would have all shown a great deal of use, allowing him to detect and block them. I think this idea aligns more closely with what Guru Patik describes to Aang. Rather than locating the specific chakras, Amon searches for the chi pathways with the most use inside a person and severs them.
UltimateKyuubiFox plus, if amon could give other people the power to weild all four elements like korra, that could potentially be a bad thing, because who is to say that one or more people could become lost in the power and turn evil?
Kuvira is my personal favorite villain from TLoK. Her introduction in season 4 was amazing, and she was the perfect antagonist for Korra, both in her similarities to her and her differences. Also, her relation to Suyin was almost heartbreaking in some moments.
You said that Amon just didn't know how to bend the air chakra but I think he did know how to bend the air chakra, but since Korra was not airbending he probably did not need to block the air chakra. In the beginning when he was starting out with bloodbending I am pretty sure he did not know how to bend all four chakras, so how did he teach himself? Did he ask a person "I wanna try this thing where I might be able to take your powers" and the person was like "let's try it"?
Hey shegwa1! Haha, I was going to go into it, but decided against it. It's possible he knew, but I figured that because he had only ever practised on waterbenders, earthbenders, and firebenders (assumedly by bloodbending them into submission and forcibly taking the bending), he hadn't quite learned to navigate the meridians associated with airbending. ~ Tim
shegwa1 But Amon was going to take away the bending from tenzin and his family. Now, why would he try it publicly if he didn't know how to do it? And also, why wouldn't he block Korra's air chakra if he could do it? (He does know Korra is the Avatar and will airbend eventually if not yet able to do so.)
Misbah Patel maybe Korra her air chakra was blocked? We know she wasn't able to produce even the faintest breeze before she had that battle. And so Amon couldn't reach the blocked chakra and thought it wasn't necessary ad well...
I would've loved seeing firebending get more credit after the war and having a return to spirituality. Imagine fire benders being able to direct the energy inside a body to stimulate healing similar to water benders. Like if Iroh taught Jeong Jeong how to redirect lightning and Jeong Jeong realized that firebending wasn't only destruction and he rediscovered firebender healing that was lost in propaganda. Just a thought, it'd be cool.
@@neofelisnebulosa3871Yes, and the original commenter is saying that it would be good to see more firebenders doing that than just ancient, lost sages.
4 points. 1. He might be waterbending the cerebruspinal fluid in the brain which serves a vital function of the cerebral blood flow, assuming chakra is channeled through blood and bending requires mental exertion of will. consciousness, concentration to bend elements. 2. He might be also br bending Grey Matter or disrupting neurons from firing signals towards the body. He may be severing the bending brain connection to the body if we assume bending is as simple as moving your arm for benders. 3. If specific pain receptors are blocked, the body does not feel pain nor sensation. If occipital, optical neurons are severed, you will go blind. There must be a bending neuron of some sort that Amon paralyzes to take away someone's bending. 4. Guess the healing part may be true as Amon could transfer his chakra, chi whatever through his thumb on the forehead to fuck someone's brain up. He could have done a better job if he just made them insane since he can swirl blood inside their heads or give people sudden heart attacks.
also he was such master as socka say that some benders can be such rare gems. As it be that air bending was lock which mean he not has access to it; as seen in the show he was surprise by the it as didn't go as plan.
N14 if there was a bending neuron then how could non-benders become benders in season 3, like non-benders of any nation became airbenders? i'm just curious.
The Fallen it is safe to assume that benders are savants. Savants in particular are special people with special abilities. eg. Eidetic memory. In some cases (very rare), if the brain suffers trauma and survives, a special kind of ability is activated. Albeit we cannot, in any certainty connect any scientific conclusion to a fantasy. We can however, assert that the avatar world was imbalanced back then. During harmonic convergence, it released a supernatural energy which activated the bending neuron of non benders, specifically their air bending neuron.
maybe Amon uses contact with the sound and illusion charcras to help disable his opponent other then the obvious pain the victim seems to go threw they also always seem to be looking into the distance and are unaware of there surroundings perhaps making contact and triggering these charcras is just another measure for making sure the victim can not get away?
Could it be possible that the Reason Amon never took Korra's Airbending is because she had never actually airbent before?. Like throughout the whole first season leading to the finale Korra had been struggling to access her Airbending and since she never had those chi points that knew of the sensation to airbend, Amon couldn't take something she never had at that point. It could also explain why she could airbend after losing her other elements cause she lost all her other abilities like when a blind man goes blind there other senses naturally get better because they are compensating for the lack of sight plus her anger and frustration caused her Airbending to become more enhanced. Ps Amon did know how to take away airbending cause when he captured Tenzin and his family he was really about to get rid of their bending
Following the flow of qi thing, maybe there was so much flowing to those other meridians that she couldn't allocate enough chi to her authentic, but by damming up the others there was basically enough pressure (in the hydraulic sense)?
It's nice to see an explanation based on information flashed out throughout both series. Really highlights the importance of paying attention to details. My only problem honestly was the bloodbending without the full moon doing it "psychically", because it was just "oh they were powerful and prodigies!". Like Toph and Katara were prodigies and unlocked some habilities in really fast a pretty young age but also respected the established rules and limitations.
Amon is one of the coolest charakters 😍 I love him. And I love bloodbending. It is sooooo amazing. But I think there is a reason why Amon has to touch the forhead, because Aang also touches this point when he takes away bending.
It's possible that was just a cover. Remember that he was trying to hide the fact that he had waterbending ability. Presumably, people saw Aang take someone's bending, saw how he did it, so Amon imitated it.
Aahhhh I love how you talked about this! I thought about this before. I never liked the idea that Korra still had her air bending because she unlocked it after he took the others away. It’s cool to think that Amon had to block bending in different ways for the different elements. It’s even cooler to think that he didn’t know how to take away air bending and that, given the chance, he could not have actually taken Tenzins and his family’s bending away.
the body is pretty good at putting itself back together again, we never see anyone lose there bending for more than say a month, and considering it can take a year or two for ligaments to heal maybe their bending will be restored given enough time? Amon kinda just said he could do it permanently but that was the first time he did it so we have no basis for proving that
The point that you can't just tap someone's forehead to block their bending, you'd need to follow the meridians to the root point (chakra) with your hand in order to stop that certain element. Amon knew she was the Avatar so any smart villian would've made sure they can stop all of her abilities and not just the ones most convenient. I think the creators just retconned that explanation so that they could create a plot twist for the viewers to be like "wow is that energy bending but not really?!" Wouldn't be the first time they messed up their own lore for the sake of their current plot.
The explanation could be quite simple. Her air chakra might not have been active until he messed with her chakra veins. They were probably already physically closed, and closing the other three chakras might have triggered the air chakra to flow forcefully.
But as well he would have to know where it was but since no one was an airbender at the time that he couldn’t have known where it was truly at to severe the meridians to that portion.
@@eduardonavarro3633 Not rlly, its Aangs spirit energy bending it back lol. Its shown in ATLA that the old avatar spirits can use their powers in special situations (E.g: Roku Buring down the fire sage temples) so it's not a deus ex machina at all
Zaheer is my favorite LOK villain by far because his mixture of right ideas and twisted doctrine reflect a guy who is just honestly trying to do his best even though he got it wrong. I almost sympathize with him, the character had a lot of depth. I like how he hardly ever loses his cool throughout the book, he's calm and calculated almost the whole way.
Wow it all makes sense now! Thanks for explaining this. Also, my favorite villain is Amon because he's badass, intimidating, and goes out in such an epic, shocking way.
Amon was my favorite. He was mysterious and had an interesting backstory. I would of liked to know more about him and how he grew up on his own. The guy with the lightning rods was interesting too. How did him and Amon meet? I don't like how he was easily defeated.
Man that was an awesome video that was some really good research, I’m impressed with how you do intricately put these diverse aspects of the avatar’s lore together to make a cohesive and logical theory. Especially the aspect that Amon doesn’t know how to take an airbenders benders because he’s never practiced the technique on an airbender. That was amazing! Keep up the great content!
Love these videos. I always thought Amon just blocked your chakras like the pools in TLA. I do think the movements are for show, because he mimics Aang's spirit bending technique. There might be other ways to go about it, but hey if it ain't broke don't fix it. Favorite villain has to be Zaheer. I was never big on air-bending until he showed off its potential. Which makes me a bit of a monster I guess.. I never saw the appeal of controlling air until I realized I could fly and suffocate people on a whim.
I'm on season 3 right now, and I'm REALLY excited to see all the crazy shit Zaheer gets up to! I've heard a lot about him from these videos. He seems like an absolute badass.
Zaheer was by far my favorite. Him and his team not only felt unbeatable, but the themes of anarchism were really interesting to explore. And I feel as though their actions didn’t take extreme leaps of logic. Killing the earth queen legit felt like the right thing to do to some extent, and the avatar in past lives has been an extreme force without checks, and they aren’t always the best for the world. Also I loved the after math that set up the beginning of book 4
I love that at the beginning your like "watch these 2 videos first" and then at the end you're like "there's gonna be another video to discuss that part" now I'm hitting the 4th one.
If water benders can manipulate the flow of chi throughout the body, shouldn't water benders then be able to resist the chi blockers and continue bending like they did before?
@@shyamrasaily9592 Iirc she did that by using bloodbending herself. So, a waterbender might do that, but it must be on a full moon so that they can bloodbend, which was not the case
You all shouldn't confuse yourselves. In simple terms, Amon can't take away your bending only the Avatar can. Amon only blocks the chi from flowing into the chakras for the element available to you to bend. But can be restored once you learn how the Chi and Chakra works with the help of a water bender who can blood bend since it was blocked through water and blood bending. Korra Air bended not because the chi was blocked from flowing into the water, fire and earth chakra. The Air Chakra was open but she couldn't bend it, because no Chi flowed through it. That's why it wasn't blocked when Amon touched her. Air is located in the heart and related to love. Korra must surrender her grief in order to open her heart again. This parallels oxytocin, the bonding hormone, which allows us to heal through connecting with others. That's why when she saw Amon about to take Marco's bending, she instantaneously surrenderred and because of love and bonding, the chi now was able to flow through the Air Chakra to bend. There's more to it but but these are the basics concerning Chi and Chakra if you want to understand how Amon did it. I don't know why the Order of the White Lotus by Aang's instructions, didn't teach her these things earlier, especially the spiritual world. She should've known that Amon can't take bending away since he's not the Avatar.
4 years later I have a thought Remember "Spirit" Bending with Water bending we saw people use during the Spiritual stuff we get ? Amon....... Knows that skill too. Only he mixes it with Blood Bending to Block off Spiritual Chi control from the Elemental Chakras He needs to touch the points he touched because he needs to be able to Link his own Spirit too his Victims spirit
Really like your videos man. And these videos are really good when explaining Avatar to the non-initiated. My favorite villian would either be Amon or Kuvira as both are forms of the same revolution at least as far as I'm concerned. Also what bending power would you want to have
Hey The Lost Son! I love avatar, and I really hope making these videos will bring some new fans into the fold. You know, I didn't realise Kuvira had such a following till I made this video. And I would a waterbender - most likely. ~ Tim
Anybody else notice that when Amon blocks Zolt's bending, he first stops lightningbending and then stops firebending? Fits in with the theory that lightning requires a fully open chakra, but fire only requires a partially open one.
Kinda think Amon should of been a energy bender rather than a water bender cause that would of been a cool way to bring it back and give it a more important roll
Wow! It would make perfect since why Amon couldn't block Korra's Airbending. Amon had figured out where the different chakra elements were by stopping the chi for peoples' bending. He had been doing this for who knows how long, and the more benders that were blocked of their chi. The closer he was to finding out where, and how to make chi blocking more permanent! As we see in the picture of the mannequin at 6:30, the spot on the forehead starts the meridians and is connected throughout the whole body. The First Chakra, or well known as the Third Eye. He must have figured that if he blocked the meridian, or where the Third Eye was. He could stop chi from going to that bender's main chakra element. Yet! Since he never had the chance to block an Airbender's chi, he couldn't find or block it in Korra. Only her main element chakras were blocked. Therefore most of her chi would then "only" flow into her Airbending Chakra!
Or maybe he just knew from Intel that Korra only mastered 3 Elements and had Problems using air. Thus he only blocked 3 of the 4. And then she somehow redirected the chi in the air chakra Point and suprised him.
I might not watch them first, but I will eventually. Although I like your theories, they're theories. I feel like we could have one hell of an idea bouncing session, because you respond to my comments in your video. I wonder if those who have their bending removed have their lifespan reduced due to blockades placed in their bloodstream, clots perhaps. Zaheer is one of the best villains ever! If I could be anyone from either series it would either be old Iroh, or a good Zaheer. I am also a tea lover lol
I think Amon would've known how to take away Airbending, seeing as that he was about to remove the bending from Tenzin's family before they got rescued.
You are the absolute cutest! And your script on this was so well thought-out and executed it's actually scary AHAHA very concise points and a quite chill and easy-to-understand way to present them! Thanks for this, REALLY good material!
Zaheer is easily my favorite villain. He's so interesting and a great example of how the traits favored by Hufflepuff can turn someone just as evil as the traits of Slytherin. Of course since that's cross over territory, there are still no confirmed evil Hufflepuffs, I'm just saying, Zaheer would almost certainly be in Hufflepuff.
One extra thing I noticed when watching this video was how Lightning Bolt Zolt lost his bending, and how it fits into this explanation involving Chakras. It was mentioned in the previous video that advanced bending techniques, such as lightning generation, require fully-open Chakras, that partially-open Chakras allow for partial bending, and closed Chakras allow for no bending of that type at all. So as Amon is cutting off Meridians, and thus blocking access to the fire Chakra, we see Zolt from being able to use advanced lightning generation, to normal firebending, to no being at all.
Amon is definitely my favorite villain in the series, because he's right. It's extremely unfair that certain people are able to bend and others can't. It gives them so much more power over non-benders, most of whom are unable to do anything to combat them. It's almost like if in the real world there were societies where only certain, specific segments of the population could have or carry guns... Oh wait, that's literally almost the entire rest of the world. And the reality that many politicians seek to create in the US. Weird.
No, he's not right because he's a hypocrite and deceiver. Do you remember 🤓, and being a bender who hates bender doesn't make him right, but rather crazy 😐?
It's also possible that it's psychological. If one truly believes his bending is gone, it might damage their confidence in such a way that they can't manage to bend. That maybe why Korra could still airbend, cause she never explicitly believed it was taken away.
The most epic villain was Zaheer. Because to be able to airbend as well as he could right after discovering that ability is very impresive. Also I personally think that airbending is the coolest element. So having a airbending villain seems very cool to me.
Now I understood how Amon takes away bending. I concluded that he lies and persuades them that "it is permenantly". Because if a chakra blocked, it could be opened and balanced again. Nothing is unhealable. It is temporarily, but it needs strong chakra work. Thank you
Question: Why couldn't Katara return Korra's bending? And why could Aang's spirit form? Did he use energybending? (Yes, I watched him do it on the show, but his energybending in TLOK is so much less dramatic and flashy than in ATLA, that it could be confused. And it's possible for spirits to bend (as shown by Yue as the moon spirit in Book 2), so it's possible that Aang's spirit form was just THAT much better at waterbending that he could reverse Amon's damage. Buuuut unlikely that that's what he did.) I suppose this means that whatever Amon did was beyond the scope of regular bending, at least as far as was known at this time. Since energybending reaches into the actual spirit of each individual (instead of just their pseudo-physical chi), I suppose it has a much greater influence and profound effect than chi could. I'd love to see a video on that!
Hey Liquifator! I've had that question a number of times, and I actually think the answer is pretty simple: Katara wasn't skilled enough. If Amon used the method described in this video to take away a person's bending (which I definitely believe that he did), then it *would* make sense that just as waterbending can be used to break key points in the meridians leading to chakras, waterbending could also be used to heal those wounds. But you have to remember that Amon was a prodigy - a person gifted with waterbending skills unlike the world had ever seen before. Not only was he naturally gifted and extraordinarily powerful, but he probably had a long time to perfect this ability. In the scene where Katara tries to heal Korra, she says, "I tried everything in my power, but I cannot restore Korra's bending." This, to me, suggests not that waterhealing was *incapable* of making a difference, but that the problem was simply beyond her skills. That Amon's powers were too precise and too advanced for Katara to undo (even if she was the best healer in the world). As for Aang's powers, I think you mean Yue used waterbending at the start of Book 3 in 'The Awakening' when she creates a tidal wave? I do think that energy bending and waterhealing a two different things, but I think they can *accomplish* similar things. Energy bending is... not very well defined. It doesn't have clear rules and this only got worse in season 2 of LOK. I can't say much more in a simple UA-cam comment, but I do want to make a couple of videos on them one day. Hope this helped! Stay nerdy, Tim
Thank you for your thorough replies!! Yeah.... I was afraid of that. That answer was kinda whispering in the back of my mind, but I was trying to willpower it into not being true because I love Katara :( She's one of my favorite characters in the franchise, and I really like the idea of her being the very best (like no one ever was)! But alas, maybe not so. Completely agreed with your last paragraph.
Hey, I haven't really looked into Avatar in a long time, but just a random thought I had when I read this comment was that Katara, while indeed powerful, was not capable of Bloodbending outside of the full moon. I don't know if it has been stated anywhere that she acquired the ability to do so in her later years, but at the time of Amon's father losing his bending, she was not capable of doing it unless the full moon was up, hence why people didn't believe that Yakone could've been capable of the crimes he was accused of; because at the time no one had been able to perform bloodbending outside the full moon. If Bloodbending was indeed a factor in removing a person's bending ability and by extension would've been nescesary to restore it to said person, it could've still been possible that Katara would've been able to restore Korra's bending during a full moon, she simply lacked the knowledge of how to do so... which I guess would technically be the same as her not being skilled enough now that I think about it. But the point is that it doesn't have to be because Katara wasn't advanced enough or because Amon was too powerful for his damage to be undone, she simply didn't know exactly what Amon had done and without that knowledge, she wasn't able to reverse the damage. If we are going by the theory/fact presented to us in this video, in a perfect world where Katara knew exactly how Amon had removed Korra's bending and the full moon had been up at the time that she tried to heal her, it could've still been possible that she would've been able to restore Korra's bending to her. As far as I recall, the full moon was not up during the sequence when Katara tells the group that restoring Korra's bending was beyond her (this is, of course, assuming that Katara didn't learn to bloodbend outside the full moon during her twilight years and that neither she nor anyone else at the time understood exactly how Amon had removed people's bending ability).
Very good thoughts! I agree with both: I don't think Katara had the skill or sheer bending power to bloodbend without a full moon. Plus, I don't think she'd want to, especially considering she outlawed it. And even if she could or would bloodbend, I don't think she knew what Amon did. I think you're exactly right.
Regarding the contact with the forehead and back of the neck, they are also chakra points, namely the throat and third-eye chakras, the throat is described to be associated with a fifth element, ether (or space in some instances) while the third eye chakra is believed to be beyond the physical, blocking these chakras could be a safeguard if he is unable to block off someone's main chakra since this would also obstruct the flow of chakra as chakra seemingly comes from the final chakra point and flows from the third eye towards the throat
Amon is a prodigy that perfected a particularly powerful chi-blocking technique, that, to the layman, appears to remove bending. Amon blocking a bender's chi isn't the same thing as Aangs' stripping Ozai of his ability to bend entirely. Taking away a person's bending forever is something only the Avatar can do; it requires a spiritual connection that only the Avatar can make.
@@fica1137 they pretty much use it whenever someone gets a physical injury, its way more than 4-5 times. Katara even uses it to assess how serious wounds are.
I just noticed something cool in the clip in 6:35. When taking Zolt's firebending ability his lighting bolt first transforms into a flame and only then it stopped. This means that his fire chakra was firstly partially blocked, and only then completely blocked, further prooving your theory.
I can't believe I found these series of videos and it just validates my theory that I've known. I too practice Reiki and learned about the chakras and energy meridians in the body. The chakras and meridians acts as an anatomy of the energetic (chi) of the body. In Reiki, the master attunes the pupil's vibration to the infinite universal life force energy. The lion turtles attunes the person's chi to a specific element where their chi can influence the actual element. In the show they said before humans can bend the elements, they bended the energy (chi) within themselves. Therefore extending their chi to an element, benders can influence the element their chi is attuned to. After practicing Reiki for a while, I've always wondered if the creators were inspired by this energy healing practice for waterbending. I gave it a try on a volunteer getting a Reiki session. I guided the Reiki energy like waterbending and I did that spirit purification thing. My recipient told me what they experienced and it's exactly what I intend to happen during the session. If there are Reiki practitioners or masters, or any energy healers in general reading this, I encourage you to go beyond what you can do with channeling universal life force energy.
My favorite villain was Zaheer, although he was evil, he still had everything planned out, he never went crazy, he stuck to his morals and he actually had a point to what he wanted to do, not just a loosely made-up-on-the-fly (no pun intended) plan
I like to think that the reason Amon needs to actually touch a person to block their bending is because he needs to feel which conections/paths/chakra that they use to bend.
what about how the avatar takes away bending because Aang couldn't and most likely wouldn't have blood bended, so what did he do to take ozai's bending?
he could be using the 3rd eye chakra (pineal gland) which gives access to all these powers like the central hub of the soul or consciousness which controls these powers, so maybe when he touches it he's accessing the chakras channels through it.
So no one else actually noticed this but I did in the clip that he shows lightning bending stops and the firebending starts proving his theory that even though a chakra is partially blocked it doesn't stop the basic bending
You are a legend for making this video, I was rewatching TLOK for the second time and I was really curious. I do know that this is just a theory however, it does answer my question so I am going to stick with it :) I stan this theory!!
Μy theory : Brike wanted to make him be an energy bender but they ended up failing to find a way to explain that. And they created that half assed noatak backstory in the last minute
So what about energy bending? Aang uses it to take Ozais bending and give Korra back her bending. Would it work in the same way? Korra uses it to restore bending too. Water bending couldnt do that and even Katara the greatest water bender ever couldnt heal it. So maybe energy bending is the proper form of chi blocking and blood bending is just an impostor.
I think energy bending is kind of like the ultimate bending. The controller of all bending. The bending of literal chi and chakara. Thats why it was never given to an avatar before aang. It was never needed. Think of it as a fail safe. Like the Lion Turtles said "If everything goes wrong we need a better way to stop and control them." and made energy bending. And the fire nation had single handedly flipped the world out of balance. There were almost no airbenders left. So yeah it would be about time to stop that mess by revealing energy. I guess intent plays a huge factor too. Cuz Aang only wanted a peaceful way to stop Ozai and we saw even airbenders before him who ruled by peace tended to kill their enemies. Kind of reminds me of Harry and the Philosophers Stone. He could only get it if he intended to save it. Not use it for himself. As with energy bending might only be able to be gained by wanting to save others and not destroy.
It's likely Amon never took away Korra's ability to Airbend because up until that point, she wasn't even able to do it to begin with, thanks to her struggle with it. I wouldn't put it past him to have somehow known about that, since it seemed like one of the first few times we were introduced to him, he seemed to have already had information on Korra even long before we knew about him. Not to mention, he seems to be highly knowledgeable about the Avatar as a whole from a long time back, likely due to studies about the Avatar. And then we think about the Equalists, and how they could be just as much an information network to him about things like that as they are his soldiers essentially. And if by chance he did know about her struggles to learn Airbending, maybe he thought he just didn't need to sever that particular element for her, even despite knowing how and being fully capable of it, because he himself thought that she'd never be able to learn it, due to her own issues. Which, would really mean that he was his own downfall. Because had he simply removed her Airbending as well, he may well have won in the end. It was a small oversight, potentially anyway, that cost him everything.
Something that I think that has happened because the creators pulled from so many sources, The mechanics of bending has became a little muddled. Here is a quick clarification on the concepts they pulled from and my interpretation for how they work together. Meridian are a big part of Chinese culture, where chakra is Indian concept. Where they spent a whole episode talking about chakra they do not explain chi or Meridians. The Chinese have an exercise/breathing technique called Qi Gong, that focuses moving chi or life force in the body. Qi Gong is was used as a warm up for Northern(fire) and southern(earth) Kung Fu, Tai Chi(water) and Bagua(air). The sea of chi Irho talks about in lighting redirection, that is Dan Tien Meridian in the stomach. I have always pictured that the 7 Indian Chakras run up the spine, where the Meridians and chi network run parallel the nervous system. Each Chakra have one point that could connect to a single Meridian but the path or chi vein is not there with most people. Energy bending (and the Genetic trait for bending) creates a vein to the Meridian to allow the chi to flow in to the chakra to allowing the bending of that element. Where Amon could only block the Meridian that was already open to stop the chi gaining the element. This is why lighting bolt Zolt bending did not just stop but slowly died out as the elemental chi was used. Also I think that advance bending is the bender learning to allow the energy from another chakra to flow in to the bending chakra and mix. Earth and fire for magma(Bolin letting of both fear(taking a stance against danger like aang did in bitter work) and shame(of not being to metal bend)), air and fire for lighting(Zuko's grief of losing is father and sister stopped him from learning) , thought and water for blood(Katara letting go of her moral stance to save other) Thought and air for flight(zaheer). Sorry for the long comment and thank you for the great videos. The magic system series really helped me in my world building.
I mean could make sense! The lion turtles did touch people's foreheads to give them the gift of bending to begin with, no reason more couldn't be unlocked
TLAB implies that in order to do so you need energy bending, unlocking the chakra is not enough, they also need to unlock the connection between chi flow and element, Aang removes this connection from the fire lord in the finale.
depends on how conncected to your physical body bending is, Also good luck trying to keep 4 seprate emotional states all in balance all the time when they literally all conflict at some point or another "3 chakras ago that was a good thing?!? now i cant spacebend? cosmic power is overrated"
6:09 I don't know if this was clear for everyone else, but in this clip we can clearly see what he illustrates in the second video: Amon first partially blocked the fire chackras, which blocked the dude's ability to lighting bend, since it is an advanced bending technique and you need a fully unblocked chackra to use it. But the dude's still bending, only then it's just fire. Then Amon fully blocks the chackra, and he doesn't bend fire anymore.
Hey subfuries! I think I worked harder on this video than any one before - so I really hope you like it. Love you guys #allhailmishka What other questions do you have about Avatar? Tell me down below!

Hello Future Me Hi going to send some fan art so look forward to that.
hi
Hello Future Me Hi! great video, super interesting! but there was one thing I couldn't stop thinking about throughout the video: if you're saying Amon 'breaks' or damages those meridians, how was Korra able to get and give others their bending back? Could she possibly fix a damaged path? or maybe the paths were just more seriously blocked rather then broken?
I'd love to hear your opinion on this topic!
Also, favorite villain would be Zaheer, I appreciate the fact that he's so educated in the air nomad philosophy, so much that he can fly! I wish I could fly!
*ALL HAIL LORD MISHKA.*
@@carmcam1 Especially as Korra's whole value to society was dependant on her ability to bend all elements, so if that was taken away she would effectively no longer be the Avatar (and it was before she got airbending and of course Aang spiritbended her to give her full bending back)
bloodbending is both badass and terrifying
The Greater Dane bloody terrifying in my opinion
Exactly the thing I need
Borderline necromantic
it's gross af, i agree with katara
The Greater Dane facts
i had taken it that he was blood bending and blocking off parts of the brain that control the bending.
gingersassy that is correct, that was explained in the anime. He can bloodbend without a full moon
That won't explain how its' prenament. Bloodbending only works while you're targeted for it.
@@Mernom hence the thumb on the head
@@lionclan4575 still doesn't explain how it becomes permanent.
He's just placing blood into the chakra points and pretty much clotting it so that they can't be accessed anymore. You're really questioning the "how" in a show where people can shoot fire because magical dragons breathed on them?
Bloodbending in TLA: A terrifying version of waterbending that can manipulate a person’s body against their will, however it is limited as it can only be used under a full moon
Bloodbending in TLOK: Literally the force
Its okay since full moon is almost every episode is Avatar universe xD
It’s like the dark side of water bending
@@Trans_SovietBee You mean korra universe.
Amon was a waterbender prodigy raised by a psychopathic bloodbending father who forced them to practice everyday during their childhood.
Katara and that old lady just learned about it. Amon trained and honed it to the twisted perfection it is
what are the so many dots on his necks. are those merdians and chakras?
Good observation.
There wasnt an illusion chakra in avatar, the 4 elements, light, sound and thought
Yeah that’s actually definitely the case well said lol. Makes sense in all context and does in the story as well.
Amon actually is my favorite villain in the Legends of Korra followed by Zaheer, followed by P'Li
Daniel Bucher I fucking hate Amon every time I watched him I was like "YOU FUCKING LYING PIECE OF SHIT"
Daniel Bucher I am the solution
Amon had so much potential to be what Zuko was....The start of a bad guy that becomes a close or relevant friend.
+He-Man ! I don't agree Unalaq was far stronger than kuvira .Kuvira is the weakest
Agreed. What made them so compelling is that they weren't the standard power hungry tyrants. They fought to achieve a philosophical goal
It's implyed that Amon knew how to take away air bending since he was going to take away Tenzin's and his family bending
Doesn't mean that he *knew* how to do that.
I think he can't do that, since he can't practice taking away an Air Bender's since there are none around except Aang's family.
Inês Azevedo the writing implied that he could do it. Unless stated otherwise, it’s fair to assume he can
Reenz that’s a fair point
Lol imagine if he tried and it didn’t work😂 His followers would be like 👁👄👁
So, by this logic, could Amon have granted benders access to other elements?
Bending is also determined by genetics, so that's highly unlikely, as Amon couldn't change their genes :)
~ Tim
Thats not how it works he kinda explained it even
UltimateKyuubiFox plus, if amon could give other people the power to weild all four elements like korra, that could potentially be a bad thing, because who is to say that one or more people could become lost in the power and turn evil?
Hello Future Me Wow
Then he could of made himself the semi Avater which breaks all logic in the Avater universe
Kuvira is my personal favorite villain from TLoK. Her introduction in season 4 was amazing, and she was the perfect antagonist for Korra, both in her similarities to her and her differences. Also, her relation to Suyin was almost heartbreaking in some moments.
I think hairbending could be done via blood bending around the roots.
Technicaly a water bender cna ripp out all of the water of someones Body, and since bodies are mostly of water basicly one shot anyone.

2017: been filming for a long time now (9 min)
2019: let's do an hour long video on Azula's psychology
bruh, he wasn't recording for only 9 minutes, it was probably over an hour with multiples takes, mistakes, and redos
Did he ask a person "I wanna try this thing where I might be able to take your powers" and the person was like "let's try it"?
shegwa1 maybe he bloodbended people so he could experiment on them
Hey shegwa1!
Somemore Airbender is very rare only left Tenzin and his family.Air nomad is normally rare species
You can use fire bending to detect injuries even spiritual ones this was shown by the fire sages
@@neofelisnebulosa3871Yes, and the original commenter is saying that it would be good to see more firebenders doing that than just ancient, lost sages.

@@JavaughnCarr1 He could probably beat Ozai, tbh.
When you look back at it, every time Amon took bending, the opponent couldn’t move so it makes sense now that he bloodbends them
4 points.
This is fascinating! Love this.

N14 ur genius.I am sure ur science students.
also he was such master as socka say that some benders can be such rare gems.
So Amon basically uses the gentle fist.
Well-said! I'm surprised this comment doesn't have more likes.

Bingo
maybe Amon uses contact with the sound and illusion charcras to help disable his opponent other then the obvious pain the victim seems to go threw they also always seem to be looking into the distance and are unaware of there surroundings perhaps making contact and triggering these charcras is just another measure for making sure the victim can not get away?
That's a really good theory!

Anesthesia bending, I like it.
Amon never actually took away an airbender's ability, so he might have missed it.
@@buttonwillowmcbuttonwillow5038 its because korra wasnt an air bend before but after amon took her Fire Earth and water bending
Kinda thought it was just that amon had never seen an airbender so wouldnt know how to block those specific chi points
@@buttonwillowmcbuttonwillow5038nah he can do it remember when he took tenzin and his kids to take their bending away

Amon is one of the coolest charakters 😍
I love him.

He still did it when no one was watching so it cant just be a cover
Aahhhh I love how you talked about this! I thought about this before. I never liked the idea that Korra still had her air bending because she unlocked it after he took the others away. It’s cool to think that Amon had to block bending in different ways for the different elements. It’s even cooler to think that he didn’t know how to take away air bending and that, given the chance, he could not have actually taken Tenzins and his family’s bending away.
Then there might be another way to restore someones bending, you could just go to a guru and spiritually open your chakras, right?
Christopher Smith The Chakras weren't the problem, it was the pathways (meridians) to them that were broken.
the body is pretty good at putting itself back together again, we never see anyone lose there bending for more than say a month, and considering it can take a year or two for ligaments to heal maybe their bending will be restored given enough time? Amon kinda just said he could do it permanently but that was the first time he did it so we have no basis for proving that
@@nateunderwood7819 yes we do
@@arre3591 can you prove it?
Nice
The point that you can't just tap someone's forehead to block their bending, you'd need to follow the meridians to the root point (chakra) with your hand in order to stop that certain element. Amon knew she was the Avatar so any smart villian would've made sure they can stop all of her abilities and not just the ones most convenient. I think the creators just retconned that explanation so that they could create a plot twist for the viewers to be like "wow is that energy bending but not really?!" Wouldn't be the first time they messed up their own lore for the sake of their current plot.
Marc Alcatraz I never knew that .
The explanation could be quite simple. Her air chakra might not have been active until he messed with her chakra veins. They were probably already physically closed, and closing the other three chakras might have triggered the air chakra to flow forcefully.
Anyway, they would have made her enter in her avatar state to magically unblock Amon's removal... Avatar ex-machina :D

Also I loved the after math that set up the beginning of book 4
so couldnt katara detect those locked chis and make it flow again with bloodbending?

@@animelytical8354 but didnt katara did that ? When she was being blood bended
@@shyamrasaily9592 Iirc she did that by using bloodbending herself. So, a waterbender might do that, but it must be on a full moon so that they can bloodbend, which was not the case
Even if the can, they don't know how. Amon was a genius.
I always thought of Amon's version to removing bending as a stopper in a bottle instead of energybending, which completely severing chi pathways.
Yeah energy bending removes the chi type of that element completely while Amon only uses water healing and blood bending to destroy the pathways
@@neofelisnebulosa3871 Which killed the coolness of energybending since now any bloodbending could take banding
4 years later I have a thought
Remember "Spirit" Bending with Water bending we saw people use during the Spiritual stuff we get ?

Only he mixes it with Blood Bending to Block off Spiritual Chi control from the Elemental Chakras
He needs to touch the points he touched because he needs to be able to Link his own Spirit too his Victims spirit

David Martins I loved Zaheer he really was evil and I laughed and was so happy when he killed the earth queen 👑
Maybe? But it definitely surprised him that's for sure! :)
I doubt he'd be suprised otherwide. :P
Random thought. Perhaps he couldn't destroy the air ones because Korra never activated them.
Very likely, and in the end he was to injured to prroperly bloodbend and thus was hit and slamed in walls with his injuries. WIch weakened him more.
I wonder if Amon could block the other chakras in the body then just the four elemental ones?
Great question! I wonder what their effects would be...

What a Drag? That is just blood bending
What a Drag? Very "creativ"
What a Drag? Amon can cure erectile dysfunction confirmed?
What a Drag? ew
This video pretty much fixed the entirety if book one. Thank you!
6:35 he does know, because he was about to take away tenzin's air bending
I've never seen such a scientific/realistic way of explaining bending.I must say Im imperessed!!
Your a hp and atla fan, yay.
Now to place every character in a hp house.
My theory: midichloreans
I totally agree that Amon takes away bending with a combination of Blood bending and Chi blocking. Though the close captions calls it Blood thinning.
Imagine if Katara used the healing water on Zuko's scar! 😮
She tried to with the special water she got from the North Pole. Good think Zuko declined tho bcoz Aang would've died if he hadn't
Zuko prob wouldnt have turned against aang tho... so it might have worked, and aang would still be alive
Buuuut unlikely that that's what he did.)
I suppose this means that whatever Amon did was beyond the scope of regular bending, at least as far as was known at this time.
Stay nerdy,
Tim
6:33 if he didn’t know how to block the air chakra, what was he planning to do with Tenzin and his kids when he kidnapped them? 😂😂
To practice?
Kill them to end the air nomad forever
@@Ilk3c3 😎
Scare Korra
Amon is a prodigy that perfected a particularly powerful chi-blocking technique, that, to the layman, appears to remove bending. Amon blocking a bender's chi isn't the same thing as Aangs' stripping Ozai of his ability to bend entirely. Taking away a person's bending forever is something only the Avatar can do; it requires a spiritual connection that only the Avatar can make.
"Healing didnt play a big role in the story except for when it literally saved the Avatar cycle and kept the plot alive by saving Aang"
It was shown like 4-5 times in the whole show which is kinda weird for a bending technique so useful
@@fica1137 they pretty much use it whenever someone gets a physical injury, its way more than 4-5 times. Katara even uses it to assess how serious wounds are.
i'm really obsessed with your videos about the avatar world!
My left ear enjoyed this.
If there are Reiki practitioners or masters, or any energy healers in general reading this, I encourage you to go beyond what you can do with channeling universal life force energy.
too long did not read.
My favorite villain was Zaheer, although he was evil, he still had everything planned out, he never went crazy, he stuck to his morals and he actually had a point to what he wanted to do, not just a loosely made-up-on-the-fly (no pun intended) plan
This is the reason why I became a physical therapist. Lolz
The Lion-Turtle called it energy bending and said it predates elemental bending.
Zaheer, Amon and Azula are definitely my favourite villains.
when a fan is a better writer than the shows actual writers
he could be using the 3rd eye chakra (pineal gland) which gives access to all these powers like the central hub of the soul or consciousness which controls these powers, so maybe when he touches it he's accessing the chakras channels through it.
1:41 IT SAVED ZUKO'S LIFE!
So no one else actually noticed this but I did in the clip that he shows lightning bending stops and the firebending starts proving his theory that even though a chakra is partially blocked it doesn't stop the basic bending
Mishka is the avatar.
You are a legend for making this video, I was rewatching TLOK for the second time and I was really curious. I do know that this is just a theory however, it does answer my question so I am going to stick with it :) I stan this theory!!
All benders can potentially be healers. Heck we see a firebending woman healer in Korra.
Theo Smith she’s not using fire tho to heal.
While Firebending could be used to measure a person's spiritual energy, fire doesn't quite heal like water. :)
I love your channel I've been looking for someone to theorize on Avatar and The Legend of Korra for a long time now
Μy theory : Brike wanted to make him be an energy bender but they ended up failing to find a way to explain that. And they created that half assed noatak backstory in the last minute
Kuvira. She's not only the only earthbender since Toph to have the kind of technique she used, she's also a wonderful mirror for Korra.
Theres even a lion turtle for it and the element was never given to an avatar until aang. Whats up with that?
Jayfeather X I was going to comment something like this, but seems u got it cover good job
Can the avatar bend more then one element outside of the avatar state
Jonathan Tsigas not at the same time but can switch between bending different elements
Korra did it once, but directly after she exited the Avatar State so she most likely still used the power boost. So I don't think they can
God Of Light thanks I wasn't sure
not at the same time
Yes. In the Tales of Ba Sing Se, in the Tale of Aang, Aang earthbends the zoo walls while using airbending to make his air scooter.
If he didn’t know how to take air bending that explains why he didn’t take Korra’s air bending *ability.*
I just went to the advanced bending video and you told me to check this out first, goddamn it!!
amon just creating blood clots lol
These three videos have been really interesting, and really well reasoned.
Would it be possible to change the route of the chi so you could unlock other bending skills.
Not if bending has a genetic element involved.
depends on how conncected to your physical body bending is, Also good luck trying to keep 4 seprate emotional states all in balance all the time when they literally all conflict at some point or another
"3 chakras ago that was a good thing?!? now i cant spacebend? cosmic power is overrated"
