Amon pretty much dominates in 1v1 fight unless opponent is a skilled water bender or avatar. Damn, bloodbending is op.

John Shelly No she cant and never will, Amons bloodbending was a unique Mutation in his family, so you cant learn it, only inherit it.(Similar to combustion or Lava bending, only they are more common and not heredetary as far as we know of)
Amon was so powerful they NERFED and MURDERED him in the end.

I think they were originally going to have him survive the boat explosion but nerf him by having him lose his arms (losing the ability to take away bending) but they didn’t know they would get a second season so they decided to end him on a high note rather than leave it on a cliff hanger

It would not be because it would be too easy. The reason is it clashes his ideology. He doesn't have that ego. His goal itself is selfless. He never killed his opponent. As that would mean he was no different than the monster his father was, and simply the opposite of his goal which is simply equality so that benders cant do harm to non-benders thru bending. The only thing thing holding him back is his code. He's basically batman if batman decides to get rid of superhuman abilities without killing them.
He forgot to mention that Zaheer spent years in solitude and darkness when he was locked up. During that time he was able to meditate and work on his spiritual self, and was able to harness his chi. That’s why he was able to progress his bending so quickly when the harmonic convergence came.
In my mind, the only way to defeat Amon is
1. Avatar or Dark Avatar with the Avatar state
or
2. Absolute mastery of Waterbending in the full moon (Katara vs. Hama)
or
3. Be a much stronger bloodbender than Amon

What about Psychic benders, who can bend without moving. we have only seen psychic water benders but we have no evidence that only water benders can bend without moving. If a blood bender used their power on a psychic combustion bender, they would pull the bender toward themselves because that's how you get a better bending lock on somebody. however, as they did so a combustion bender would just blow them up. The same could happen against a psychic Air bender countering blood bending by bending the air around their bodies or their enemies bodies.

As a dude who marathoned the first three seasons of Korra this year, I have to say.... I'd be a thousand times more interested in a verbal discussion between these two than I would be seeing them fight. That being said, I really do appreciate this video Antoine, it's really great!

the writers made blood bending overpowered when they removed it's exclusive-ness of *only working on a full moon*
To be fair there isn't enough data say its only usable during a full moon. Outside Hanna and Katara we know of no other bloodbenders before Korra. Katara refused to train blood bending, and Hanna was self taught and we really don't know how strong she was compared to other water benders. Further more with her already being middle aged, she was kept in terrible conditions. It wouldn't be surprising if she could only blood bend on full moons because of health issues caused by being kept in a small cage for years while severely dehydrated.
@@bandit7459 I think only Yakones bloodline will be able to bloodbend anytime and even if it was teachable whose going to teach them when the last 2 masters of bloodbending committed suicide.
@@ghostdrago8598 Yeah Yakone mentioned it there family was able to Bloodline. They kept studying it and probably figured out how to do it after the Full Moon. Hama unfortunately didn't pass it down or more like Katara refused to keep trying to mastet bloodbending

WHos Joe nearly all bending would be so much more powerful in real life without being held back by the fact that it’s a kids show. For example, earth bender would literally be smashing people to pulp with rocks, blood bending would be a lot more widely used, as well as people training to defend against it much more, air benders can change air pressure, making people explode, or like Zaheer, taking air directly out of the lungs. They could also expand air pockets inside of humans (probably). Fire benders, well, I'm not too sure to be honest. Firebending is pretty straightforward.

Amon is one of the most powerful benders in the Avatar series, Zaheer is strong but just like most benders, he doesn’t stand a chance.

Amon is also a waterbender Master... His bloodbending is that strong because his normal waterbending is strong. On example Katara overpowered Hama's bloodbending because Katara is stronger waterbender... So her bloodbending is also stronger. Tarrlok can easy bloodbend Tenzin and other strong benders but he can't do anything against Amon... The only characters that for sure can defeat Amon are Avatars is avatar state and Dark Avatar Unalaq.. Iroh and Ozai probably can do something...

Amon didn't show much about his waterbending, but you're underestimating a bit.
Amon can definitely use bloodbending at range. Remember the scene where Tarlok is bloodbending the wolves as a child; He lets them go and Amon steps up and grabs them as they are running away. The distance shown is at least 100 meters is not 150+. Amon had full control over the wolves, dragging them back to bow before him.
That definitely was not 100 meters. They were just over the ledge. The distance was 40 meters at best. Zaheer' flight in the pro-bending arena would be much greater than that.

Kevonye Bennett maybe, but he may need to get close to Amon for his technique to become more effective but once he doea that, it's over as Amon's blood bending will become stronger, too.
Further, Zaheer's bending takes a little time while blood bending is almost instantaneously.
Honestly, blood bending is OP as the list goes on about how you can end someone's life. Amon might be able to freeze Zaheer's blood.

Honestly, the show made Amon too good. Being able to bloodbend like that at will. And take away people's bending. I mean, dude's probably stronger than a few avatars.
i would go so far and say that amon in full moon is stronger than korra in the avatar state remember we never saw him as a full moon adult

No. The only avatar that he was seeing is Korra. Blood bending can't hold an avatar in the avatar state and from what we've seen by going back the last 5 generations, Korra was the weakest.

amon was never defeated in combat in the show and is the only antagonist to not be beaten ever the best anyone has been able to do is slow him down for a few seconds with surprise attacks. outside the avatar in avatar mode or in unalaq in dark avatar mode amon is possibly the strongest bender in the avatar world and its almost unfair to pit anyone against him in a one on one fight

Amon is the most powerful non spiritual normal mortal bender if anything, i agree with Mufasa here. Spirits who are the source of all bending and the Avatars who are just stronger by Default with the Avatar state.
Its not just because spirits can be more powerful though. Its also because some might lack blood (speculation, but seems possible)
If we speak of all benders who don't happen to be the Avatar or a Spirit then yes. Amon is the strongest. Them lacking blood in the Spirit world is a speculation, but it is like in the Episode when Aang went into the Spirit world as a "Spirit." Where the Spirits are "Alive" in their world. Just like humans are in theirs. So it seems more likely that most Spirits posess some Kind of blood System, but we cannot be sure.
For example, we saw Raava change size and when she was blasted she didnt appear to show blood loss. That was evidence for my opinion

Because as far as characters go, these 2 are about equally good.
But no, no way is it a proper match-up. Zaheer isn't even an impressive fighter. I can easily see Book 2 Aang, Toph or Azula beating Zaheer, but even together they would lose to Amon.
I Am Too Lazy To Come Up With A Name think about it, zaheer didnt have bending but somehow got stuck a a prision you can only open with metal bending on top of a mountain.

Book 2 aang, toph, azula beating zaheer? Haha, did you even watch this video? The guy is top tier (he could defeat any bender in a 1v1), even without his air bending. Im pretty sure zaheer would beat ozai without the comet. Aang might have a chance in the avatar state but zaheer will beat toph and azula easily.
Remember aang vs toph? She cant see him when he is in the air and he beat her in the ring, she has no chance against an average airbender. Zaheer can FLY. He beats toph 100/100 times.
Azula is a great bender, but thats all she is. She is just very good but so is zaheer.
Nevertheless amon beats everything except for the avatar state. Amon vs ozai with comet would be so fun, ozai channeling lightning. Amon bloodbends him and takes away his bending
Amon is one of my favorite villains in any media because of how terrifying he was. The way he effortlessly dodged lightning and how easy it was for him to defeat anyone. They did a good job at making him feel like a huge threat that you would never want to fight
to me Amon was the best villain in the whole series. they should have just stuck to him and make Zaheer a sub villain, the rest weren't necessary

@@voidtermina9136 zaheer ended up playing a huge rule in season 4 and yet Amon gets killed in a fuel tank explosion and Zaheer ends up being chained for the rest of the series. That makes me sad

It seemed to me that Amon had a weakness to airbending since airbenders were almost nonexistent at the time.
The scenes of Amon fighting also didn't show him besting airbenders, and he got defeated by Airbending. So I give Zaheer better chances than the video.
@@vivala4tabajoelcapitalismo976 He probably didn't know how to take away airbending because there was never an opportunity to try. It would be really shortsided for him to not try to block airbending since he knows the avatar has the potential to learn all 4 elements.

Amon was never really beaten, he simply had his true identity revealed. He was probably capable of ending every single fight he was in in an instant, like his father did in the court room.

Put benders in the same situations where jedi were after order 66. Except for the air benders. Its not like i was expecting this automatically at least in the third season. But had amon and his brother not died they could have planned another sceme were it involved politics and the justice system you know divide and conquer but with more deception

Pakku would win water bending is much better than fire bending defensively and jeong jeong chose not to fight anyway
We don't really get to see enough of the extent of their powers in the series, so it would be difficult to declare a potential winner. All we know is that they are both very powerful masters of their respective elements
@Wes Bradley-Taubner that was during sozin's comet, we can not say for certain that he could do that under normal circumstances
To put this in a star wars analogy, Amon is like Darth Nihilus, unless you have a very specific natural counter to what he is throwing at you, you're dead. Next time you use Amon, consider using two or more opponents.
You know, you probably didn't intend this but now I want to see Yoda vs. Darth Nihilus.
Yoda. Mainly because Nihilus is only really gifted because of that one Force Drain ability, his other abilities are pretty average. And you can counter Force Drain in that you can be immune to it, like your character was in the game, or you can have a high enough force count to the point it would take too long to drain you, thus giving you time to counter attack. Yoda was as powerful as Sideous so Yoda would beat Nihilus.
That still won't be good enough to defeat him, since his father and brother made groups of people lose consciousness in a matter of seconds, just imagine what Amon would do

Give him a problem? Avatar State and UnaVaatu, and any decently powerful Spirits (like Old Iron, Koh, etc.) would ROFL stomp Amon to the 4th dimension. Not even a chance. I'd say Amon is THE most powerful human bender (excluding the Avatar) in the series. Literally, the only way to beat him is to get a surprise attack.

I feel like, though it's largely speculative, Zaheer possesses a wild card simply for his mental discipline.
I predict it wouldn't take long for Zaheer to develop a resistance (for want of a better term) against Amon's power, simply from force of will. After that, while the advantage would still belong to Amon (resistance against bloodbending isn't full immunity), he'd suddenly be put on the ropes against an opponent he didn't expect to counter him.
All I'm saying is, Zaheer's dangerous because he's unpredictable.

zaheer is better though i have to agree, he can just dodge kuviras metal sheets in the air and kuvira can possibly only hit zaheer with a close range, either that or kuvira has to use any metal or earth around her.
i think in a blink of an eye, Amon is gonna put Zaheer, Kuvira and Unalaq on their knees even before these 3 could start to move and bend. i think that's how OP he really is.

Zaheer was losing against Tenzin, who quickly lost to Tarrlok, along with like a dozen other strong benders, who was easily beaten by Amon

Amon's father was SECONDS away from killing Avatar Aang IN HIS PRIME! If it wasn't for the avatar state Aang would've died. Amon is a bloodbending prodigy, probably even better and more powerful than his father. If Amon's father was seconds away from killing a prime avatar, then I have no doubt Amon would have any trouble dealing with Zaheer.

In the show Amon never wanted to use lethal force, lets not forget that water benders can freeze water, and blood as known has water in it so yeaaaa, getting intro reach of blood bender that wants to use lethal force means almost instant death, also imagine him just cracking that frozen blood inside you and ripping them from your body it's also a viable option.
When someone who can avoid and still have full contact to knock a blow on a person down is a very skill and dangerous guy to even fight and even possible to lose their bending is a man you don't wanna mess with at all.
Just looking at the title I can see this is a mismatch, not even close to a fair fight! Amon not only stomps with blood bending, but I would argue that he may even be a more skilled combatant and more intelligent to boot.
Which is why this is Antoine's only match-up that with a 10/10 verdict. He did this only to shut the requests down. I'm surprise he didn't make the video one-minute but he actually did make it interesting.
Zaheer was never shown to need movement of the body to fly.

I think that Korra has Aang beat in this one. Keep in mind, Yakone is Amons father and Amon did become better than him at blood bending. It took a fully realized avatar Aang to go into the avatar state just to break Yakones blood bending grip. Korra didn’t have to go into the avatar state against Amon to break his grip, nor was she a fully realized avatar against him. So Korra had a stronger opponent, less experience and didn’t need the avatar state. Don’t get it twisted who’s the better avatar.

Amon just wins every matchup due to bloodbending
Zaheer is great but Amon is all powerful. He's conquered one of the most dangerous abilities in the show that had a stipulation of a moon phase and surpassed the necessity entirely. In my opinion though, even without bloodbending he's an entirely different kind of fighter that I don't see many people competing with. Even as a bender himrself, he's show such a capacity to evade and deal with the most skillful of benders through usage of acrobatics and tactical approach to close distances and enforce his superior martial arts to overwhelm. Let's no forget, he was never actually defeated and Korra never stood much of a chance against him unless he was caught by surprise.

Unless you’re the avatar, the only way to win against Amon is to be faster than him. And even then, if your first move isn’t decisive, it’s still game over. That whole family’s bending was super op.

Honestly Amon was the most powerful, Intimidating, interesting, and modernly realistic enemy in all of legend of Korra. I really thought season one was the best season simply because Amon as a bad guy, his motives, and the way he executed everything was really REAL. I think he would have made a great recurring enemy in this show. The equalists as a faction were freaking amazing too, and really helped to sell that steam punk vibe that the other seasons of legend of Korra didn't seem to capitalize on as much. The equalists' use of the new technology of that era really gave added much to the character of the show itself, which I honestly felt was lacking through out the rest of the series. Like, the technology itself was almost a character that the creators didn't focus on as much as they did in the rest of the seasons. Not that they didn't, but something about the way season 1 represented all these new technological achievements of Korra's era as Amon stayed one step ahead of everyone else was really fun and really made the show have a steampunk vibe. Because Amon's faction was a bunch of non-benders, Technology was how they compensated and it allowed the new tech to really have this sort of spotlight that the rest of the series didn't capitalize on. I dunno, it's just me ranting for no reason, but really Amon was the coolest enemy in the show, followed by Zaheer.
Amon is just too op. They had to kill him off by having him abandon the fight and die on a boat in the middle of the sea. But at least he didn’t die alone. At least he had his brother with him. Also he can definitely wipe out the red lotus by just moving his finger or tilting his head.
Amon should be one of the 10 greatest bender or non-bender ever lived. Such a master of art.
i love wtching these cause it reminds me of just how fucking good the animation and fight choreography was in LOK. Its so smooth and fluid, and shot so cinematically. Wow. Love it or not, LOK blows TLAB out of the fucking water when it comes to fight choreo and animation. No contest.
You should do a avatar versus series where there are teams such as 2v2, 3v3 or 4v4. Like Zuko and Azula vs. Bolin and Mako.
I guess it would be hard to analyze so many variables but it would be nice to see the possible combos.

In the Avatar universe, there is no single element that surpasses the others. Throughout the series, I noticed one thing: the nature of every bender. Air and firebenders were most predictable compared to the other two.
Fighting is based on the principle of jing and bending as an art is based on the principle of chi. Earthbenders have a way of manipulating their suroundings by waiting for the right time to strike. They are somewhat indifferent to what other benders do to harm them(like Bumi). Waterbenders act by simply adapting to the situation they are faced with. Firebenders impose their self will by simply attacking and refusing to hold back as in the case of Ozai and Azula. The opposite is true of airbenders.
As of yet, it is not known the true ultimate of each of the element. During the duel between Zuko and Zhao, i recall Iroh's concept of sticking to the basics, essentially enhancing own's own chi in the case of a deadly combat. It works in the same way as a person's immune system as well as the person's source stamina. On this note, i think it's fair to say that bloodbending can be quelled by a fully enhanced chi and a bloodbender can be defeated by a master of jing.

Amon is going to stomp pretty much everyone in the Avatar universe, barring fully-realized Avatars and, as you and some people have pointed out, King Bumi. In fact, I see Bumi even taking several matches against Amon, though whether or not he would be able to even muster a toss-up, let alone a majority, is still uncertain to me.
Y’all forget that airbenders can “lung bend” Just like blood bending but for air. They can move the air in people lungs allowing it to fall or EVEN EXPLODE
