    You're extremely good at explaining it. I used to fly the 737-800 in FSX and that was a tad different, so I was very much confused with the 74.

    Hey man, nice video and I just wanted to add a few things
    1. Speed brakes are not armed for T/O, they come up automatically passing 85 kts or they are deployed by the PF or PM when doing an RTO.
    2. Before pressing the TO/GA switches you need to stabilised the thrust (set a bit of thrust making sure all the engines are spooled up)
    3. You set up the automatic landing correctly. But MSFS seems to be lacking the feature. At 1500 feet you should have the mode "LAND 3" enabled with "ROLLOUT" and "FLARE" armed
    In the case of your video, you needed to take control of the aircraft and do a manual landing since there was no autoland enabled. Your aircraft did not flare that's why the landing was so hard!
    Great video anyway and I'm so impressed with people learning how to fly the 747 in MSFS :)

    Nice video. Air Force pilot here, FYI 16,000 is not a flight level. FLs begin at 18,000. And V2 is not the standard climb speed, that is the airspeed required to continue a safe climb at the minimum climb gradient in the event of an engine failure.

    Set up Flight Plan to Seoul in FMC, check.
    Set up ILS approach, check.
    Set up Autopilot as you did in Xplane and other Sims; Set Altitude, Vertical speed, IAS, initial climb heading, all check.
    Take to the skies and ready yourself to arm the autopilot.
    Switch autopilot to on and switch autothrottle to on.
    Looking good so far.
    Switch LNAV to on and enjoy the perfectly preplanned ride.
    LET'S GO TO THE NORTH POLE!!!
    I have no idea why it does that, I am forced to fly by constantly adjusting the current heading. I can see my magenta flight plan on the instruments, All the steps in the flight plan can even be easily configured automatically from the main menu but still as soon as I switch on the LNAV it just flies of to whatever direction.
    If I change the view to "outside", I can see a GPS route that's trying to be followed by the system that isn't configured at all in the plan as far as I know of..
    You don't have to select a source in the 747 for the autopilot as you did for example in a Cessna with the Garmin NAV mode, right? Switching the NAV source to GPS and it follows all the lines in the preplanned flight plan. Is there something like that in the 747 I am missing? I thought the "source" LNAV uses comes straight from the flight plan in the FMC and all it's GPS stations you type in.
    I am so confused.. Am I missing something, is this a bug where it's trying to fly a GPS route from a previous flight?
    Sigh...

    Thanks so much for this! Gave me confidence to give it another go. I setup a flight from KIAH to KSFO. Many legs, each with their own airspeed/FL. Sweet! Took off, clicked LNAV and VNAV, and she flew up to FL420! I learned that I need to stay below fl390 to prevent big bertha from swaying left and right. Then, after watching the amazing scenery (Grand Canyon, Area 51 (where the aircraft 'mysteriously' lost all control for about 5 seconds, almost inverting...I think I was shot at!), Yosemite), she blew right past the waypoint with the 250/FL260 settings. :-( And then past the next one, with 250/8000 settings. :-( So, for some reason, the AP didn't follow the FMC. I disengaged / engaged the AP, didn't help. I did create the flight plan in the "home" screen before loading up the aircraft; could that be the issue? Also, MSFS is updated to the latest, and I'm using the Salty 747 mod.

    I've had to play around with it but both Boeings work pretty damn good for me in auto pilot and auto land. I always use loc approach idk why. I am especially glad you showed how to demand more engine power in the thrust limit page. And people need to remember these modes aren't just point and click. You have to manage them even though they're automatic. It takes time to balance it, and it takes time for it to calculate what it's gonna do. Like flc not being immediate, patience people. Patience.

    FYO This is unrealistic automation. Automatic landings is never attempted without LAND 3 or LAND 2 annunciation at 1500 feet RA on the PFD and FLARE and ROLLOUTE modes are missing on the PFD which should be armed during the approach. The hard landing is because the aircraft did never FLARE! During automatic landing the FLARE mode is activated between 40 and 60 feet RA. and ROLLOUT at 5 ft. RA.
    Autothrottle is never disconnected during autolaland but manual thrust is possible. The autothrottle should command thrust to IDLE at 25 ft. RA.
    I think there are a lot of missing features in the sim still, unfortunately.

    • @troybaxter2916
      @troybaxter2916 3 роки тому

      @@ReefAndReptileAutomation In the actual airplane the autothrottle stays on the entire time. The autopilot will reduce the thrust to idle at 35 feet above the ground. If the autopilot is configured correctly, then once the aircraft is fully configured for landing (full flaps, gear down) then you literally don't have to touch anything until you want to exit the runway after you've landed. I'm getting the sense that the "autoland" that is happening in this video is really an autoland. There are three indications on the FMA that would be shown in a real autoland. IDLE, FLARE, and ROLLOUT.

    Followed what you did exactly and ended up with a flight that was unable to control altitude using VNAV, just kept ascending and descending around 8000ff rather than going to FL240 as the FMC showed and the AP unit showed.
    Aircraft also insisted in using full rudder whilst on autopilot, banking to compensate and hold heading.
    This simulator is far too buggy. I miss FSX, glad I only tried this one for £1.99. Definitely not worth the £50 odd, especially considering I’ve had to sit through 2 30GB updates now...

    Great tutorial, you talk fast so I had to watch it a few times :-)
    31:16 My struggle with VNAV is that I don't understand if it ONLY reacts to the pre programmed altitudes in the flight plan? Often the flight plan have me on 30,000ft and then the next way point is perhaps 2700ft and there might not be enough distance to have a graceful decent so I ask traffic control for a lower altitude so I can start to desend much earlier.
    If I in that process press VNAV, it will INCREASE my altitude to the 30,000 ft that is in the flight plan.
    Is this correctly understood?
    Also, is it possible to EDIT the altitudes on the waypoints so I can avoid the abrupt altitudes described above?
    If I could edit, I could actually give VNAV the chance to take me down more gracefully over a distance, or is it another way of doing it ?

    747 auto land simulates an air craft carrier landing

    • @jeremyc311709

      That’s because it’s not a full auto land feature. There is not flare, it’ll just follow the glide slope all the way down

    Everything works fine but when I get to cruising altitude and go over around 200 knots it says I’m over speeding

      Your flaps are most likely still down bring the flaps up and then the overspeed warning will stop.

    Is there a way to apply an autopilot to altitude and not to navigation? I want it to control vertical speed during the approach and I want to be in charge of direction.

    • @MrMotionmac
      @MrMotionmac 5 місяців тому

      when using the autopilot, just unclick the LNAV. That will give you control of lateral movement. But if you have turned the localizer on it overrides the autopilot with regards to lateral movement. The approach mode handles the VNAV when in close. So if you don't switch from localizer to approach it should line you up horizontally. And then disengage the autopilot and select the altitude the normal way.

    • @larrybremer4930
      @larrybremer4930 4 місяці тому

      Yes, you set the altitude you want to descend to (or 100 feet if you want to go all the way), then by pressing the VS button (vertical speed) that will disengage VNAV and let you se the descent rate on the VS dial. Just remember VS will disengage once you reach the altitude you have set (or wont engage at all if already at or below the current altitude setting) and the autopilot will revert back to altitude hold.

    I try to do the same but for some reason the aircraft does not decend even though i enter the new altidude given by ATC (i don't have it on hold). Also, when do you hit the approach button to start landing? When i hit it it starts doing cyrcles between the two last waypoints.

    So do LNAV and VNAV affect the plane even when the autopilot is off?? I thought AP has to be on for them to actually work.
    And why does he have all 3 APs activated at the end during the approach, but not before?

    • @Ben-hz7cp

      idk bruh

    • @larrybremer4930
      @larrybremer4930 4 місяці тому +1

      Yes AP has to be on for vnav and lnav (but not for basic autothrottle bug and speed hold). In Approach mode all 3 autopilots automatically activate as a failsafe in case one system gets unstable air data or some other fault. Its complicated but as long as the 3 systems generally agree they average their control inputs. I am not sure if Approach mode will continue if one system goes offline (I suspect it does not) but as a failsafe it would alert the pilot and if the system detects too much aberration between the systems it will disengage with lots of cautions and warnings.
