@@TolarianCommunityCollege probably not worth but hey i just was at friday night magic and bought just one booster just to have to collection ALSO YES CONGRATS
No, hard f***ing no; my LGS- or at least the only one getting any MH III wanted nearly $200 for a bundle and a prelease kit and is hawking boxes for $300 to $400 a head. This set isn't worth it, gamblers go broke for a reason, buy singles if you have to or wait out the hype if you don't. This set will drop hard fast once the flotsam scatters and we see just how little is actually of worth in it.
@casually_lurking I think you missed the point, my man. There are two possibilities: - gambling is inherently not worth it and hitting it big is very unlikely. Gamblers would go broke before hitting it big. You could also argue that out of all the people winning a big sum of money in gambling, only the non-gamblers will actually benefit from it, because the gamblers will gamble away the wins of chance because the expected value of all gambling games is negative and they gamble enough so that the gains will converge to that negative value in the end. - The original commenter actually thinks gambling is a good idea and people just stop too early. This would assume that that person doesn't understand basic stochastics. If he is a defender of gambling and is passionate enough to write a comment, he would have written a longer comment. That's just how people on the defense argue. So we can hopefully arrive at the same conclusion: the comment was a joke and you wasted your time writing an answer everyone watching this video has heard multiple times, stated by the Professor. One could also argue that this comment is a waste of time. I agree.
Give it a shot! It’s such a fascinating game, I been following it since 2014. I started out buy going to a LGS and asking for a free starter deck. I’m pretty sure they still give them away.
It's pretty great to see the 1M next to your channel name. A wonderful milestone. Hopefully we don't have to wait till 2 Million before your Behind the Campus video!
Congratulations on 1M, Prof! You were an integral part of helping me understand what I should be looking into when I was getting started and continue to help me make informed purchases decisions. Thank you for all your work!
In my humble opinion, the only time you shouldn't buy singles is if you want to expand your bulk bin. I've gotten 2 boxes over the years and a good chunk end up going into storage until I can find a place for them in a future deck.
Congrats on a million subs!!! I stopped playing MTG because it’s insane price gouging. But I wanted to say congrats. You are one of the best parts of the community!
I'm saving money to buy Bloomburrow packs. I want to see a bit more of the set before I'm sure, but I have fun opening packs, seeing what I get, and then seeing what I can do with them, and so far Bloomburrow looks to be a really cute and fun set
I think you are underestimating the hype for cute animals. I have been going to a few LGS and people are talking about getting a bunch of people into MTG with Bloomburrow. I will use people's nostalgia for Redwall to get them to play MTG with the Bloomburrow set
@@Keck282 I think people are overestimating animal nostalgia. This isn’t Pokemon, what the cards do matters. I think it will help some tribal but mostly set up new tribes. If they aim at kids expect simple evergreen mechanics. When the cards have low play impact value won’t be there to sell boxes.

Excited for Modern SUP! From what you said in this video, I'm getting the vibe that non-Commander SUPs aren't as popular as Commander ones, but frankly I enjoy watching the 60 card constructed SUPs (and other nontypical SUPs like the Canlander and Dandan ones) the most!

Thank you for sparking the joy for Magic in me and always reminding me, that there are non toxic players out there. Its very hard for a beginner where I live... Congrats on the 1M!
There are so many cool cards in this set at every rarity, and it's a really fun set in limited play. I enjoyed the pre-release more than I have in a long while. I'm still going to keep an eye on prices for the singles that I actually want instead of trying to chase them in packs, but I will definitely end up grabbing a box for drafting.
I was really surprised that a game store an hour away was selling a box for $235 - insta bought another box! Got Ulamog and Kozilek and others in my first box and got ugins labyrinth, ugins binding, and emrakul (and of course others) in this second box
Played some draft with my friends today and had a blast. We split a box and it was worth it in terms of enjoyment, despite the price of entry. The new commons and uncommons are especially fun to play with.
A PLAYSET of each fetch for only 270 something bucks. Might be time to start getting my fetches back. Been playing casually since Khan's of Tarkir was in standard and built a deck for each khan(casual constructed) had fetches and shock lands in those and sold them off in 2022 when I bought my house. Miss them so much! Lol
I was at SCG Con when the Professor got some grief about looking for packs if cards. I'm glad he's clarifying when and why to buy singles or sealed product.
Enjoy the game however it makes you happy. Play your favorite format, crack packs, buy singles, trade with friends. The most important part is to have fun doing it.
yeah opening it felt great. Therea are A TON of great commons/uncomons in the set, that in the past would have been like one rarity higher. Like roughly half of the uncommons feel like the could have been a rare. But one thing you shouldn't rely on: that you'll get a guaranteed 2-3 of each uncommon out of a play booster box. I think my average was somewhere around 1-2, with a couple of complete whiffs and a select few uncommons you get maybe three copies but chances are high, that it's not going to be a general chase or even your personally prefered uncommon. In my case I whiffed completely on the 2-mana rock-uncommon that produces energy and als puilled only one copy of Urza's Cave and Ampted Raptor and was like "whelp, guess I'll buy a couple extra online then" and ended up stocking up on a bunch of other uncommons that I felt I would end up wanting way more copies of. Notably, a lot of the MDFC-lands. I am completely happy about the spread of commons. In the Past it was like 5-7 of every common after opening a booster display and it was always overkill and just... wasted paper. (i mean now it's at a token or a cool full art land some of the time) and here the average seemed to be somewhere in the high 3-4? That's perfect for all the common fetch-lands which are SUPER playable. Having roughtly a playset of these just felt really good because they seriously can go into any 3-color deck.
@paulszki I noticed the same thing. There are a couple uncommon cards I don't have a single one of. Actually a common or two also and I opened two collector and one play lol. I had 2 different sources also and some how had a ton of the same hits. 4 winter moons. No Urza's anything lol. Weird mix. Trading in for a third collector box. We'll see how it goes.
@@Dskinny23 I feel like Collector Booster boxes are always the worst offenders when it comes to uncommons. Like commons, you don't really care. They're shiny, you get a couple of each or just one or maybe none and it doesn't really matter. But with uncommons, you STILL only get roughly 3 per collector pack, but you're not opening 36 boosters, you're opening 12. So ironically uncommons feel like the rarest pull in collector boosters packs. Luckily it's not a huge issue and you can simply buy the uncommons instead of pumping another couple hundred bucks into getting yet another display. 😅
MH3 has a lot of very good cards but the box prices are extremely high. Plus, Wizards will be printing a lot of MH3 just like MH2. Buying singles is the way to go but I will wait a while!!! Thank you for the video Professor.
At the beginning of prerelease I bought the new Ral flipwalker borderless non textured for around 5 bucks when he arrived he is now worth like around 35 to 40 bucks for one. Glad I followed Prof's motto "Buy singles".
I look forward to the Booster Box game. And for the Collector Booster "let's see what would have happened if I had played the Booster Box Game" version, I predict you will get a serialized card. Because you absolutely deserve it.
I ordered a box only hit 1 fetchland. I think it was worth it for me with all the medallions, but I think buying all the fetches alone is a much better deal overall. You have to acknowledge fetches will go up. I got very lucky with my mythic slots and I really enjoyed opening them. If you want general value I believe this set will be worth it long term, however if you are looking at focused upgrades don't gamble. Edit: I feel really dumb I just watched him essentially say this after I posted. No need to tell me.
I will say it seems like the fat pack bundles pulled better than a box. My girlfriend and I each bought a fat pack and split a box. The box had some decent pulls, but nothing too crazy. The fat packs each had 2 fetch lands, and I got a full art Ugin's labarinth, and she pulled Ulamog.
@cherry9787 it could be a placebo effect because i only split a single box, but everyone in my LGS seemed to pull better from the fat packs than the actual boxes.
Thankfully, I'm buying a box to open with my dad. He loves just cracking packs. It's something we can do together, especially since he'll never get to open a collectors LOTR box he always wanted. Also, his luck is insane and I want fetch lands and eldrazi.
This set was my second prerelease, it was fun and on the plus side got back my investment. I don't buy boxes but may try draft if my local game store make a weekend event.
My criteria for buying packs to crack: Do I feel like I'll open something I'm happy to see 2/3 of the time? Lots of factors can affect that metric. Does the set have a bonus sheet slot with high value reprints? Is the alt art treatment of the set appealing to me? Are there a lot of playable commons and uncommons, things that will go into decks immediately, even if they don't cover the cost of a pack? Even really cool basic land art can be a reason. If its a set where most of the cards I want are tied up in main set rares and mythics, its probably not worth buying packs for me. I've been buying a lot of MH3. There are so many playable commons and uncommons. They printed the best naturalize yet, and the MDFC lands and common tri-cycle fetches are great.
In Australia... this will shock most, as it already does here, the play booster pack costs us anywhere from $17 to $19. A collector pack is between $60 and $70. At my local, one of the modern locals opened 3 collector boxes, $1900 roughly, he probably pulled $500 worth of cards. He was pissed.
I bought a 9 pack box from my LGS for $70, that’s about $7.77 a pack I believe. Pulled about $85 worth of rares I didn’t want, and sold them and kept the stuff I pulled and wanted like my two Six’s Overall I’m pretty happy with it. EDIT: OF NOTE! not a SINGLE pack had more than one rare, even though it is advertised having 1-5 rares per pack I’m pretty sure. Not one did.
Yeah, this is why I like watching box openings on YT. You get to see how many utter dud packs they go through before hitting something that actually is worth the price of the pack lol.
@@nanoglitch6693 I mean, I made $15 and got a few $5 cards I wanted too outside of what I sold so idk felt like an overall positive purchase for myself.
Just for the fun of it I bought two collector packs last night. I pulled a foil winter moon and foil concept art kozilek in the first pack and the second pack had a non-foil retro border ragavan with a foil version with it. So after taxes I paid $112 and pulled over $200 in value from just four cards.

Grats on smashing that Kickstarter Prof!
Yo hows yalls draft / sealed experience been with mh3?
Thinking about splitting a box with friends as a bday present to myself
In Australia... this will shock most, as it already does here, the play booster pack costs us anywhere from $17 to $19. A collector pack is between $60 and $70. At my local, one of the modern locals opened 3 collector boxes, $1900 roughly, he probably pulled $500 worth of cards. He was pissed.
I bought a 9 pack box from my LGS for $70, that’s about $7.77 a pack I believe.
Pulled about $85 worth of rares I didn’t want, and sold them and kept the stuff I pulled and wanted like my two Six’s
Overall I’m pretty happy with it.
My bundle had 1 pack with 2 rares, 1 was a Polluted Delta
pulled a foil retro ula at prerelease. it made my 0-3 feel better
All your good fortune was consumed by that ulamog lmfao
@@cherry9787 as well as the misleading sign it gave me to play blue green eldrazi
Just for the fun of it I bought two collector packs last night. I pulled a foil winter moon and foil concept art kozilek in the first pack and the second pack had a non-foil retro border ragavan with a foil version with it. So after taxes I paid $112 and pulled over $200 in value from just four cards.
I'm excited about Colossal Dreadmask for my Pauper Simic Dreadmaw deck.
I loved the pre-releases I played in, and I'll probably but a box or two if i can for some fun limited with friends later.
Drafting with my cousins in a few hours. Stoked.
Sick blazer prof! Love the suede blue look :)
It's a really expensive set but damn is it fun to draft. I'm also a big fan of eldrazis so this is the perfect set for me.
Prerelease draft was $100 entry here in Australia. Even with how great the draft looks, I'm not able to stomach that price point
Bro that's crazy 💀💀💀💀
