Honest question and hoping this doesn't sound pointed: For those of you who felt Andor was too slow in the beginning, what are your thoughts now? The last couple episodes have felt anything but slow to me!
I really wasnt a fan of the first episode. It felt weird and Cassian seemed like he was kinda dumb. Like I expected him to try and keep his head down and have some street smarts so when he was looking for info on his sister in that club and those guards were getting an attitude I would have imagined he would have left and came back later when they werent around. I get they needed the conflict to create the plot points but it seemed a bit forced to me. But the shows definitely becoming the best of all Starwars since Disney took over. Mandalorian is great and all but this show is making a point to show how bad the empire actually is. On a very personal level. Like we saw them doing big major plays in the movies which were almost on a scale that made it feel less personal since it was so grand. Seeing it so up close and in your face in this show really gives you this sense of how bad things were.
Im very much enjoying the change of pace and the slower more methodical story telling. It is almost the opposite of the big and grandiose Star Wars that is usually done which makes Andor feel unique yet still apart of the larger Star Wars universe. The show IS slow but it has constantly moved forward with purpose and intent which makes it engaging and enjoyable. Im loving everything about Andor so far, even the first few establishing episodes.
Its weird. I never felt any fear of the empire in any of the movies. Even when they blew up Alderaan we never saw people on the planet so just seeing the planet explode didn't feel as weighty to me. Obi-Wan mentions millions of people dying all at once yet somehow that's far less scary than 100 people being killed due to a clerical error and needing to kill all the witnesses to try and hide the truth that all these innocent prisoners don't ever actually get released just supposed to be transferred between prisons to live out the rest of their lives performing slave labor all with this false sense of hope that they might be released some day. Considering most of them are there on trumped up charges makes it that much worse.
Yes, me too! When I watched Rogue One I was kinda like oh that's sad but never too emotional for some reason? But obviously I bawled like a baby in this. They really did a good job at this series.
The difference is that the destruction of Alderaan is akin to reading a statistic. You know it is bad/evil but there is no emotional connection. Andor on the other hand brings all of this to a smaller scale directly to a personal level of characters which are build up properly.
The transition after the torture scene of bix is the same after the Leia's interrogation/torture scene in a new hope, this show has so much attention to detail, I love it...
Andy Serkis is such an under appreciated gem. He is the godfather of motion capture, so he is far to often hidden behind layers of CGI. Im so glad he is getting such a chance to shine as himself here. We know next to nothing about Kino Loy's backstory, but Andy Serkis performance is so captivating to watch that i just wanna know more about him.
A show that takes the time to introduce us to its characters and make us understand their motivations in a way that makes us care is never slow or boring, it's just meticulous and well done. I love this show. And yes, the theme song changes the pace in every episode and somehow announces the tone of the episode.
The acting in this series with this script is simply amazing. Everyone. We need Oprah here. "You deserve an Emmy! You deserve an Emmy! And you deserve an Emmy!"
I agree! It has been so good that I haven't even commented on it because not once have I even had the thought "wow their acting is so good." Because their acting was so good that it kept me in the story 100% of the time. Not sure if that made sense but at the end of the day my name is also Emme so I can give them an Emme award at least!
With the theme song at the beginning, the simplest version was in episode 1. In subsequent episodes they add more instruments. So it’s slightly different each time. 😀
When you think about what we just learned at the end of the Episode, it’s almost like we’re SO happy that Ulaf passed away when he did so he didn’t have that false sense of “I’m free” just to be put on another level and to then know that he’ll never be free, at least he passed with the innocence of thinking he was gonna get out 😭😭😭
Oh, you don’t know what’s coming… This is peak Star Wars. The best show I’ve seen in a while. This expands Star Wars, creates another tone, gives it layers. Fantastic show! People will catch up and join us to appreciate it. Nice reacting, Emme. I suscribed to your channel cuz your reaction are natural, real.
The torture Bix is put though is reminiscent of WW2 methods done to Allied prisoners of war. If I’m not mistaken, prisoners would be subjected to repeated listenings of Hitler’s chaotic speeches on full blast. It’s nowhere near as sadistic as the dying cries of children but the repeated listenings like in the show would chip away at the prisoners’ psyche
YES! I have been thinking WWII themes with this show recently too. Wow I didn't know that about the prisoners having to listen to that though, that is awful.
Thanks, Emme! 🎧 Yes, the musical theme evolves for each opening credits. ❧ The actor who plays the prisoner-med-tech 'Rhasiv' is Adrian Rawlins... you may remember him best as 'James Potter' in a few of the HARRY POTTER movies. ❧ The actor who played 'Ulaf' is Christopher Fairbank. I first saw him portraying the thug 'Nic' in BATMAN (1989). 'Nic' was the first to ask the question "Who are you?" which teed up the caped crusader to deliver one of his famous catchphrases. #Emme #StarWars #Andor
As you noticed the intro music does indeed change every single episode. And i dont think they straight up went to save Ulaf with the intention of killing him so they dont have to take care of him. It wouldnt be the Empire that would be taking care of him but the inmate doctor. The doctor did what was best for him, he didnt want to know his name because he doesnt want to humanize him since he knows what he has to do. About the bag and a trolley, thats probably just what they automatially bring. The bag is included in there for the 'bad' scenarios. "Never more than 12" got more hype than anything. Hyped for your next reaction!
I saw people excited over Kino's line at the end and basically spoiled the context of it, yet when I watch the episode myself the line was set up and delivered so well that I still got a thrill from it. The Imperial prison is already one of the darkest things I've seen in Star Wars, but this episode outdid it with Bix and the torture she experienced. The idea of a genocide leading to the creation of some kind of supernaturally damaging psychological torture is so twisted. Definitely the darkest thing I've seen in Star Wars. The show just keeps doing new things. And yes, Bix did talk. That's why they stopped torturing her and it's why Paak had also talked. They were incapable of resisting the effects of those sounds. This episode was my favorite so far, and now we've already moved on to episode 10 which has a moment that might be the best monologue in all of Star Wars, I'm still thinking about it. Looking forward to your reaction to that one!
Btw this show isnt trying to be too Star Wars'y but rather more human. So yes Bix did answer pretty much everything in the interrogation. Ive heard some complains about the show not being Star Wars because of the lack of the stuff that made Star Wars unique but it is Star Wars and thats just their opinion only looking at the fact that Disney made this. Reason for that is that it wasnt a hardcore Star Wars fan who directed Andor but props to him he did something incredible. Best 'Star Wars' show of all time
Following the heist . . . the ISB instantly squeezed the 'throwaway' citizens of the galaxy( six months became six years ) The very beginning of the 4 seasons of Filoni animation that a percentage will continue to stubbornly not accept into canon ~ essentially takes place simultaneously. Currently am REwatching those installments in which multi thousands of Imperial prisons are briefly discussed ( T.Gilroy's vision could not have influenced any of these plotlines. ) It is still enjoyable ( provided the program is personally accepted ) to envision this ISB squeeze in those episodes( Season 3 . . . perhaps viewers can feel the tightening around the rebellious "cells" ) - cheers.
You wont see the same way the battle of the Rebellion against the Empire in the Original Trilogy now, this series shows you why the Empire must be overthrow.
This really turns up the tension. And next episode is more again. Not a slow burn anymore. Though the scenes outside of the prison can honestly be skipped. We need to know what happens to Cassian.
Hi Emme! Hope you're having a wonderful day! 1:10 - You may not have noticed, but the music changes with each episode. It's been fairly subtle until now... this one was drastically different. But it sets the tone for the episode very nicely! 1:30 - Dr. Gorst looks a LOT like the British comedic actor "Rik Mayal". I know it can't be him, because #1 he's too young, and #2 Rik Mayal died a few years ago. The Bastard. (Also, you should look him up. His work with "The Young Ones" and later, with Adrian Edmonson is absolutely hilarious!) 2:25 - Yeah, Dedra IS pretty scary in her ruthlessness. Most people would break for her. 2:55 - Also, I just noticed your hair style. It looks great on you! 3:27 - Uh, boy.... 3:34 - Just a suggestion.... watch the movie "Drop Dead Fred", a movie with Rik Mayal in it. It's a comedy, but.... well..... watch it, and you'll understand what I'm finding it difficult to say. 5:48 - You never torture someone you want to get information from, to kill them. "Dead men tell no tales". So, no, it won't kill Bix.... the idea is to break her, mentally. So that she'll tell what she knows. When it comes to physical torture, someone's "breaking point" can be misread, and they end up dying because of it. With mental torture, it's much easier to make the recipient pliable. Pliable enough to talk. That's why Dedra is using it, rather than physical torture. 6:32 - Not to them, they aren't. That's what happens when you "Other" someone. Once you perceive them as "less than human", it's easier to torture/kill them. It's as true in the real world as it is in Star Wars. In fact, Star Wars has ALWAYS been reflective of the time period in which the stories were told. Return of the Jedi is holding up a mirror to the Vietnam war, which had ended less than a decade before the movie was released. Those of us who have been around since the beginning of Star Wars, can understand the reflection that's being shown. Do yourself a favor, and look at what was happening in the real world, when each movie and series was released. You'll see a lot of parallels. 6:50 - Not only that they don't support her, but to indicate that they don't even want to hear it. So they turn off their power, and leave. 7:22 - Remember this scene.... you WILL find out what happened. 9:38 - Actually, Maarva IS frail, physically. Mentally, she's very strong. But physically, she would succumb to torture, and end up dead. Remember what I said above. 9:45 - They killed the entire unit, because someone from Level 4 was "released" (finished his sentence), but ended up back on Level 2 and was recognized. So, to keep it from getting out that prisoners are recycled through the system, everyone who could possibly know was killed. In other words, no one will ever be released after serving their sentence. They will simply be sent away to another prison, to keep on being a slave to the Empire. 11:20 ish - Ulaf is pretty much being worked to death. His body can no longer handle the labor. So, you are right to be concerned. 11:29 - Uh, yeah.... that's either gone over some people's heads (thankfully), or it's triggering certain portions of the population who love to scream "OMG! WOKE!!!" And no, I'm not one of them. (I have to go out.... I'll edit this later.)
Is romance in the air for Syril and Dedra? He's good-looking, intelligent, well-groomed and loyal to the Empire. If so, she'll soon learn that he's extremely deferential to women -- as instilled by his beloved smother, er, I mean mother.

People just like to complain really. Andor is great!

I really love the attention to detail and the overall quality of this series has me fascinated

This episode and the most recent one blew me away. I was impressed with the shows script right away, but somehow it just gets better and better.
I am genuinely blown away by how good this show is. It's been a long, long time since I've felt like there was REAL stakes while watching Star Wars.

Yah I felt sad for Kino, but the satisfaction of the episode outweighed my sadness.
The next Episode is so, so Goood. Andor is just Amazing. and Your reacts are realy great!
Oh my this episode was wild. I am loving Andor. Great reaction once again

I absolutely love this show, right up there and sometimes better than Mandalioan.. which I know you haven't seen yet but great reaction
I think they're making parts for the Death Star.
You should watch George Lucas' first professional film, THX-1138 (1971) to see how Andor has been influenced by prison.

are you going to watch lord of the rings?
