      Banjo Barney and John Shehan, the life of the intrsumental section of the Dubs. The fiddle guy - John Shehan - is still going strong, and actually released an album in 2020.

    The best days, when Luke was still there. Grew their hair so booking agents would easily recall "The group with the long hair." Lucky audience.

    Many folks did not pay too much attention to Barny. But he was very essential to the overall performance of the Dubliners.
    And the same is true for John. Wunderfull people.

    Definitely great work from Barney and John. I might say this is their best perform I ever heard.
    I don't entirely agree with you about the founding.
    So far I've heard that Barney already played with Ronnie back in 1958, where they started the group Ronnie Drew Folk Group.
    In 1962 though, they renamed according to Ronnie, who wasn't very much interested in getting all the credit by naming the group in one persons name, as every member was doing an equal job, so therefore they changed to the Dubliners.

      I think it was luke's idea to rename the group in "the dubliners". Thats what is written in Wikipedia. Greetings from germany.

      It was Luke's idea to rename the band the Dubliners. He was reading a book of short stories by James Joyce at the time. One of the story's was called the Dubliners. That's how the name came about.

    Barney is good because he is a social guy, not a guy who try to compete, and show everybody what a good player he is. There is some guys who tries to proove that they are the greatest player on the planet. But to little effect.

    Now if this was a female band they would have consulted each other about what outfit they were wearing as to avoid a clash of similar dresses. Obviously Barney and John didn't do this regarding their shirts. Quality music though. 😀

    Does this song have to do with freemasonry?

    • @cecircinn2908
      @cecircinn2908 4 роки тому +1

      Not really
      It's a Scottish tune called the Masons Apron but whether that is just a stonemasons apron or linked by name to freemasonry is debatable. In any event it was first called "Braes Of Glenorchy" and also "The Isla reel" prior to the various "mason " names it is also known as..
      The first tune is also Scottish and by James Scott Skinner . Both Spey (the River) and Skinner are of North East Scotland
