  • PLEASE DO YOU OWN RESEARCH ON YOUR OWN VEHICLE as not all vehicles are made/wired the same way
    Hope this will help you in figuring out if your truck can be setup with OEM Backup Camera (IF YOU WANT IT). There are 2 places to check for pre-wiring and that is at the Tail Light Junction Block main connector and at the HMI Module behind the glove box of 2014 - 2016 Silverado's. Huge thanks to MVI (gm-navigation.com/) for pointing me in the right direction for checking the locations for the pre-wired locations. Going from a i04 Radio to a i05 radio with OEM Backup Camera capability I needed the following parts: Tailgate bezel/handle with camera location, The camera itself, upgraded radio controller (8" screen), and updated HMI Module with backup camera functionality enabled on it. I didn't want Nav functionality. I this helps others looking into that and contact MVI for further information if you are in question about your specific vehicle. I believe the part number for the OEM tailgate handle with camera hole was 23104432, the OEM camera was 23306741. The upgraded HMI Module and 8" screen was purchased from MVI at gm-navigation.com.
    Do me a favor guys and give me a thumbs up if you thought it helpful and your comments or a thumbs down and let me know what I missed for information. I'm trying to help other with the same want for upgrade.

    Do you have a part number for your HMI Module ?
    I currently have an IO4 trying to purchase a 5-6 HMI module just need a part number would you have that?
    Thank you

      Well, i never looked at the part number for the i05, BUT, i did a search on the gm parts online and found this information... PLEASE BE AWARE that programming of the HMI Module HAS to happen per your vehicle Identification Number (VIN). The guys at MVI maybe able to direct you more if what I supply is not enough.
      *** I THINK this is my new HMI Module part number, this one should be without navigation ( I didn't take a picture of it before I put it in, sorry don't feel like pulling out my glove to verify) ***
      BODY HARDWARE / INSTRUMENT PANEL / SOUND SYSTEM / MODULE
      23266007 - module HMI, code: IO5
      $358.37
      *** This was my old HMI Part number, I had a picture of it before I sent it to MVI for replacement so the part number if verified ***
      BODY HARDWARE / INSTRUMENT PANEL / SOUND SYSTEM / MODULE
      23443745 - module HMI, code: IO4
      $359.21
      *** This one should be WITH navigation but you'll need GPS Antenna if you don't already have it, extra cost ***
      BODY HARDWARE / INSTRUMENT PANEL / SOUND SYSTEM / MODULE
      23443747 - module HMI, code: IO6
      $666.61

    Hi bud! Can you help me out. I wan't to add the backup camera via the OEM way. My truck has the io4 RPO code and I upgraded to the 8" screen and upgraded the HMI to io6 so now I have navigation. I have the backup guide lines when in reverse but no image. Here is where I am. I have a 2014 Silverado.
    I installed the backup camera with a new tailgate handle.
    I have checked the junction block (X63A) and I do have the WH/D-BU wire and GY/YE wire. I have followed these wires to the engine bay where they enter the X138 chassis harness to body harness pins #37 and #38. (sadly they end here.)
    Now, on the HMI i don't have these 2 wires in pins 5 and 6.
    I'm trying to make the connection between these 2 points but can't seem to get the image to show on the LCD.
    My questions are...
    Are there wires from the HMI that carry the camera signal to the back side of the LCD near the radio?
    Do the wires from the X138 connection in the engine bay near the firewall plug into the BCM before rerouting to the HMI?
    If they go into the BCM first then I probably need to flash the BCM. I already flashed the HMI.
    These questions are for someone who already has their truck pre-wired and can figure it out for us lost souls.

      Sorry for the delay, but unfortunately you are getting down to electrical schematic details that I cannot talk to. All I was told from MVI was to check for was the those 2 wires on the junction block and to ensure I see the same 2 wires on that connector that goes to the HMI module that goes into that connector pins 5 & 6. I'm not sure but sounds like to me that you'd have to change the harness or something to acquire those 2 wires in pins 5 & 6. Like indicated, i'm sure these 2 wires in pins 5 & 6 carry the video and what other signal is indicated to display the video. I'm not a technician by any means and not sure about GM's wiring designs on their electrical. This may be visit to someplace local that has access to get that information.. Unfortunately if you go to a Chevy house, they may not be very helpful in figuring this out. Although, you MAY trying going to parts counter and see if they can help with schematic designs on the connectors, that may lead you in the right direction. Sorry i'm not much help on that aspect of what you are asking.

    what was the cost of the 8 inch screen

    • @parrishmooneyham6095
      @parrishmooneyham6095  7 років тому

      I don't have the cost of the screen alone. The cost of the screen + reprogram of the HMI module was 750.00. If you want to find out what the cost of the screen is, you'll need to look for your Make/Model/Year of your vehicle at something like gmpartsdirect.com (mine was here www.gmpartsdirect.com/auto-parts/2014/chevrolet/silverado-1500/lt-trim/5-3l-v8-flex-engine/body-cat/sound-system-scat), find the part number based on the screen you want and look that up on google to see what you get. I almost forgot to mention, that the screen you are looking at is the Module Control Interface, the screen, bezel (shell) and knobs (part number 23168178 or similar to this). I found this for the screen cost ONLY. www.gmpartsgiant.com/parts/gm-control-23168178.html i hope this helps, you find is cheaper elsewhere like maybe amazon. I didn't do a bunch of looking around.

    I up graded 4" to 8" screen. I get sound but nothing showing on screen

    • @parrishmooneyham6095
      @parrishmooneyham6095  7 років тому

      Hey Louis, not sure what might cause the screen to NOT show up, could be a bad connection in one of the connectors or connector not seated all the way or maybe the HMI wasn't programmed correctly. The troubleshooting process has to be done for every connector that was touched, but as I'm not a technician by any means, it's hard for me to help you out. My suggestion is to pull out and re-seat all the connections you messed with during the installation. If all the connections (meaning, each wires in the connectors AND the connectors themselves) appear to be seated well then next step would to be contact the people that programmed the HMI module and work with them.. That is not to say that something else might electrically wrong somewhere else. Sorry I'm not much help on this, hope you get it figured out.

    do you have to pragram hte i05 before you installit??

    • @parrishmooneyham6095
      @parrishmooneyham6095  6 років тому

      Marcos Garcia for it to work correctly yes, the HMI module needs to programmed to know how to handle the new screen.

    • @parrishmooneyham6095
      @parrishmooneyham6095  6 років тому +1

      The HMI module is what must be programmed to know you have a i05 display.. the 8" screen is merely the display tool. Not the whole radio receiver.

      At about 1m 40s into the video I show you what small 4.2" radio looks like. I think the 2015 & 2016 utilizes the same 4.2" I had if I'm not mistaken. Just compare it.

  • @stephenmwyatt2

    I wish you would have tried the 4.2 first, to see if it worked

      @parrishmooneyham6095  7 років тому

      stephenmwyatt2 , why don't you call MVI and find out instead of waiting on some one to try it themselves, the 4.2 should work as it is merely a reprogramming of the HMI module.

    is it HD Radio as well?

    • @parrishmooneyham6095
      @parrishmooneyham6095  7 років тому

      When the signal from my local radio stations broadcast in HD then YES, you can receive HD signal. There is a HD1 indicator of the screen that indicates when you are receiving a broadcast in HD. I goes in and out quite a bit where I'm at as I'm on the threshold of non-hd and hd signal.
      If you are asking if you can manually TUNE into HD channels directly, which I believe is like 99.1, 99.2, 99.3, 99.4.. etc the .X number tuning on the radio is still the ODD number. like 99.7, 99.9.
      There is a reference here www.chevrolet.com/content/dam/Chevrolet/northamerica/usa/nscwebsite/en/Home/Ownership/Manuals_and_Videos/02_pdf/14MyLink_Imp_Silverado_IPDF_8-27_FINAL.pdf
      On page 1 there are 4 columns of features. The second column from the right that has the title '8" diagonal color
      touch-screen
      with 4.2" diagonal color DIC ' references this in the feature. "• HD Radio with iTunes®7
      tagging
      (HD, SiriusXM4)"
      I hope this answers your question, I will verify this 'manual tuning' procedure' and either edit this reply or add a new one with the way the channels increment on the radio and let you know.

    • @parrishmooneyham6095
      @parrishmooneyham6095  7 років тому

      Ok, so I did do a manual tuning of the stations via the knob, it does only increment through the ODD .X channels I have explained above.. I hope this helps.

      I don't know if you'll receive this Cruz but I just found more information. Because your are able to see HD1 on the radio, you should be able to receive more.. HD2, HD3, HD4 etc.... you'll need to do a little research on HD Radio Trasmission.. I found this here hdradio.com/what-is-hd-radio. I think I have recently noticed my 8" radio showing HD2 but that is a little rare in my area.. ;) I don't live in a metro area to get all kinds of HD channels hehehe. Hope this helps.

    You will need to call MVI if have specific questions about your year and Model of your truck. I do not believe the 2014 I had came with it when I updated that. With that being stated, I have since traded in my 2014 for a 2020 Silverado crew cab.

    Where do I buy this stuff you have

    • @parrishmooneyham6095
      @parrishmooneyham6095  7 років тому

      IF you have the same setup I have, I have listed information in the video and the description but you'll need to buy the Tailgate camera, bezel (which is basically the handle replacement with the hole for the camera). The HMI Module Replacement that comes with the 8" Screen from a place like gm-navigation.com/. Basically you'll buy the HMI from them with the agreement that you send in your as a core replacement. Simply take the part numbers what I have listed in the description and search for that part number of google. I priced around and found some at gmpartsdirect.com, amazon.com etc... you'll need to shop to find the best deal. You are going to want to do yourself a favor and go to something like gmpartsdirect.com and view the right part for your truck. I'm guess you have the LT 2500hd 2015 from you post just above. Hope this helps.
