Thank you for this great video! Very interesting and informative. I bought my 2009 X Country back in 2015 and I use it everyday to go to work and if possible on the weekends to do some off-road. I really love my bike! It’s great in traffic and very quick. And on dirt roads it performs very good! Not like a Enduro bike, but the X Country is the bike that doesn’t do anything excellent, but can do almost anything! Thank you for the tips on the g650x, today I learned more about the bike. On Amazon you can find some Iridium spark plugs and a K&N air filter, this is a great tune up for the bike. Greetings from Guatemala, Central America.
FYI, when spark plugs are sitting they can and they do go bad. Especially if they were run with bad or stale gas before it was last shut off. And you can pull them out and they can look fine, you can ground them and crank it over and see that they Spark, but when you put them back in under the pressure of compression they will fail. Had it happen to me as well
Nice informative video... Thanks... I am about to buy one now... It´s really shame they are not in production anymore. It´s very good bike for short people too :)
Yup. I believe for the 2009 model year is when BMW moved the G650X engine production to Taiwan (I may be off on this, been a few years). I remember a lot of folks were concerned, but the engines were and are fantastic!
Great ... now I want one. Maybe the X Country, since I seem to get along with "scramblers" more then any other bike configuration. Thank you for explaining the fuel pump bit. I saw it mentioned elsewhere, but no details.
I still miss my old xcountry that I bought back in 2008. It was such a great do it all bike, though I did end up doing a fork, shock, and wheel swap on it to turn it into more of an xchallenge. It's a shame the only bike similar to these now is the KTM 690. I better stop typing cause I'll reminisce too much and find myself wandering Facebook Marketplace looking for another 650x 🤣🤘🤘
I just picked up a Xcountry put a 45t sprocket on the back and itll do 80mph all day now. The only issue is since they were only made for 3yrs, my BMW dealer said the aftermarket/replacement options are super limited. I needed to replace a side panel as it cracked after a tip over in the woods. It was going to cost $550 and take 6-8 weeks to come from Germany!!! i used 6-8 zipties instead.....
Engine wise, you can lean on the Husky TR650 for parts, or the G650GS bikes. But unfortunately yeah, plastics and stuff like that, gotta go eBay. It is what it is. Shame these bikes weren't released in the past 2 years. They'd sell like hotcakes!
Ego Venari Congratulations on your new XMoto. I’m sure you are going to do many miles or kilometres (depending where you live ja ja ja ja 🤣) on it. It’s very important to keep an eye on the water pump seal since it doesn’t give you any warning before it fails. 😫 Mine failed at around 20.000 kilometers/12,400 miles. The engine started to get hot and the radiator fan never stop working. Then I checked my engine oil and it was contaminated with coolant! 🤬 So I changed the water pump and seal. Also the thermostat and fan switch to make sure everything will work great. 💪🏼 So I hope you enjoy your XMoto and have great adventures! Best Regards Fernando 2009 XCountry Guatemala, Central America
Great bikes got back to another country downtown Toronto. Knarly. I'd suggest the reason these bikes failed on the production run from 2007 was the stockmarket.
Stock market and definitely too soon for folks realizing that smaller bikes are more ideal for hardcore ADV use. And who wants to take sales away from a 30k$ GSA?
Thanks for the video. i have the 07 x challange. had 4k miles when i bought it now under 8k. bought the bike at $4k. everything you explained about the bike is true, even some of the work youve done ive done, especially the part about the fuel pump hahaha other then the fuel pump bike is solid.. to bad they discontinued these models.
These G650x bikes were just unfortunately a few years too early in their production. I think if they came out a few years later they would have really taken off. At least they can still be found for good deals as you found. Enjoy your ride. 👍
First off, nice to see those Bose 201 speakers in the background. Music in the garage is always nice. I bought a 2007 g650 x challenge.a year ago in Minnesota and rode it (and a Yamaha TW200) to Massachusetts with a friend. The Yamaha is great for the trails out in New England, while the X Challenge feels too big on the tight trails, but it far better on the road getting to the trails. I had an issue where the fuel pump just dead stopped while riding, and after taking everything apart and fixing nothing, I hit the fuel pump with a hammer and it works again. God only knows what's wrong, but that was months ago, and seems fine now. I look forward to getting stranded in the woods at some point, but now I carry the hammer with me, just to put the fear of god into the bike. I have an opportunity to buy an X Country in Minnesota currently. Not sure I need 2 of these weird BMWs, but the X Country feels more manageable -- lower seat height, mostly, and a different feel, that makes it interesting to me. I appreciate the info you've given here. I've really enjoyed the X Challenge and look forward to more riding around the wilderness of Vermont, Mass, NH, etc.
I had been running a crummy speaker off my phone when my brother gave me the Bose speakers and a bluetooth receiver for my birthday. What a difference. Who knew music could sound so good from the old speakers. 🤣 You should be able to replace the internal fuel pump with an aftermarket one. I forget which one can be used to replace it, but take a look on Amazon. It's not a 100% direct fit, but the meat n potatoes is all there. Also, keep an eye on the fuel pump assembly connector. There are 4 pins externally visible. On the inside of the pump assembly (in the tank), those then connect down to the pump and low fuel light switch. The connection from inside to outside can come loose\fail. I miss riding in Minnesota, and miss my original 2009 xCountry I had. Riding any of those up there again would be quite the treat. 👍
hi Andrew! - thanks for the vid it helps- The engine of the g 650 x started from 2007 till 2010 , is there a year better than others or is there a year model to avoid (let alone the fact that the X model is hardly found on the second market) thanks for your time cheers Farid 🙂
Farid, I believe some folks with 2007/2008 G650 engines had the side cover wear out where the center shaft on it rides. It was updated on the 2009 model engine. Other than that, these are pretty bulletproof engines. Husqvarna used them for a couple years in the TR650, and now SWM uses them in their Superdual bike. Good Luck with what you get!
I just picked up a 2007 xmoto for 750$ with 7500 miles. It sat in storage for 13 years. I replaced the fuel pump and spark plugs. She runs like a champ other than she stalls at stops sometimes. I need to figure that out. Any suggestions?
I'd say maybe try verifying your idle is good. If it sat that long it may also just need a few tanks run through it. If you still have the charcoal canister you can check that that isn't blocking any of the tank venting too.
Pretty easy as its a 2 wire switch. You need to remove the safety torx head bolt behind headlight housing. Many others just get a totally different switch, but I believe you can get an OEM key switch.
Hi I have this exact bike 2007 I'm having a problem with starting it turns and then cuts out and turns off by it's self I have charged and changed the battery
If the bike is randomly stalling, it could be a couple things. One, I would verify that the idle control is all clean on the throttle body. If that is clogged at all, that'll cause issues. Next, it could be spark plugs going bad (which is an issue I had on mine). Replace them, cheap 10$. Next, I'd verify that the fuel pump is functioning properly. Mine was very badly corroded, and was fixed with a ~70$ pump off Amazon. Also, verify all your wiring\grounds are good and that there are no simple things being overlooked.
For the xMoto, it's a little more complicated as the front rotor is larger than that on the xCountry\xChallenge. There may also be something slightly different with the front axle as the fork lugs are a bit different. That said, if you get a set of xChallenge or xCountry wheels (or have Woodys Wheels make a set), you can likely make some spacers to make the various axles\bearings all work.
Hi, I cannot find those $30 clutch covers you mention. Can you please help point me in the right direction? I picked up my xCountry today (I bought it unseen from Brisbane and got it trucked to Cairns - Australia) and noticed the bike wanted to keep moving while waiting at the lights (in gear with clutch in), also noticed neutral was hard to engage. BTW this is my first time ever commenting on any video, and why, for motorbikes!
This was the link: www.aliexpress.com/item/32893766529.html Looks unavailable now. The backup is to take the housing off and to a machine shop. Have them bore out the unit and sleeve it. There is a writeup for this on ADVRider.com Another options is to get a cover for a Husqvarna TR650.
Not sure on this one. I've owned an xcountry, which had 19f/17r for wheels. I've had the xchallenge wheels which were 21f/18r and then this xmoto which given it's a supermoto is 17f/17r. Been awhile since I've seen anything with an 18" front wheel. Ride on!

Based on the Pegaso 650.

Great info. Just purchased my 2007 G650X Moto this month. My dream bike actually. Found it with 3400 miles at $4200. One owner.
Any info on how to remove the Charcoal canister? Probably only for CA. G650X's
There's a nice write-up here xmoto.mollien.net/2008/03/evac-canister-removal.html?m=1

Any idea what would cause the bike to not start had spark getting fuel
Are spark plugs new or old? Mine didn't want to start and some new plugs cured it.

Can I istall there 380mm muffler or it has to be 480mm long like original one?
You could install whatever aftermarket exhaust sold for any of the g650x bikes.
