Been looking for how to do this for ages! Thanks so much.
Decided not to bother after all 😵
I've been wondering for years how to do this. HUGE THANKS for taking your rad off to show us.
Guess what my job is today? 🤣🙈🙄
Have fun!
Well, I watched both of your vids and neither were for the type I have here! Watching them was however not a waste of time because it gave me the confidence to push and pull and eventually one side slid up and out came the grill, fantastic. Thanks hun x
Fair enough! Thanks Jackie.
Thank you so much for taking the time to make this video, it was a huge help!
You're very welcome!
Many, many thanks for your excellent "breakdown" of the necessary action to take, with a much over-engineered add-on to the basic adequate radiator.
As one of your grateful followers suggested, I also now leave off the side panels, AND the dreaded intermediate clips, leaving only the top panel, using only the end clips, just to be able to lay warming glooves etc temporarily on the top...
Again thank you so much... keep up the excellent work..ATB
Glad it was helpful! Cheers John.

Brilliant! Thanks for this video, it was exactly what I was looking for!
You're welcome!
Thank you for taking the time to do this. Very useful
No problem.
Thanks Al, had to change my UA-cam name but I'm still a loyal follower previously known as Haggis and appreciate all that you do. Ps, your Amazon store was down recently so couldn't purchase from it
Ok Steve, thanks for the info.
Brilliant thank you. All rads now ready for cleaning.
Glad it helped
Thanks for this. I have the 2nd type in this video which are harder to get off.
What's the purpose of these radiation grills/surrounds? As I am tempted to leave them off than go through the rigmarole of taking them off every time to clean the radiators. Any disadvantages to keeping them off?
They are just for looks, leave them off if you want to.
✓✓✓✓✓ . That's exactly what I've done with the side panels, they didn't seem to be necessary.. but I've kept the top cover, using just the end clips, leaving off the dreaded intermediate clips, mainly to be able to place warming glooves etc easily on the top... good tip.. many thanks...
Brilliant, but doesn’t work on the covers I have! The double rad ones have come off beautifully (following your other vid) but the single ones wrap around the back, have a tongue holding the side panels onto the top grill, and possibly have a screw/nut at the bottom on the wall side which I can’t get to! They’re de longhi (inherited with the house) and seem too over engineered to work with logic! Any ideas? Thanks
I have another video on single rad covers which may help on my channel.
Thanks a million mate, got 'em off, gave it all a good clean.
Glad it helped
You are a an absolute Gent! True pro, Thank you!
No problem! Thanks Al.
For the first type, I pop mine up off the hinge at the bottom but it stays connected at the back side of the radiator. It comes off the bottom OK and from the front side but gets stuck / caught on the back. I am thinking I might need to take the radiator off the wall if I cannot get those clips undone. Any tips before I take the radiator off the wall? Thanks.
I am thinking you will have to take that one off.
Thank you, couldn't work out how to do it :)
No problem Carol.
Is there any need for these grills? Grate video as always. Thanks
Shane Stockton they're there just for aesthetics, the rad looks pretty naff without them. I prefer the round top rads, they look much smarter and don't have daft grills.
It just makes them look tidy I guess.
Worked great - thanks.
You're welcome!
You’ve saved me, thank you 🙏
No problem 👍
Thank you for reminding me on how to do this. Saved me lol
No problem 👍
Many thanks for this, brilliant information
Glad it was helpful!
Brilliant mate! Thanks
No problem.
Hi AL nice one mate
Thanks David.
Thank you. I have no clip and the sides look to be holding the top down like a double ,no way will the sides slide upwards as the hole for the bleed valve has no slot or plastic cover
They have to be pulled sideways off and not upwards.
You must have a double rad I have a video for that type, you looked at the wrong one.
@@dereton33 It exactly like in this video but the fittings are different. I managed to do this by twisting it sideways instesd pushing them upwards.
Thanks for your help very useful 😊
My pleasure 😊
Hi, Great Video but do you know how to do the ones with a metal hook type clip at the bottom of a double? doing my nut in trying to get the ends back on :(
No sorry l can't help you there.
@@dereton33 Thats cool Thanks, i just found out how to do it but man that was a chore lol
Chris Lacey how did you do it? I’m a pickle here
BUT how do you get all the old dust out? Miele (my hoover) tell me they do not have a connection suction to fit down radiators so what other effective machine suction ways are there please? Please advise as the long handled dusters/goat hair etc., you stick down are not effective and make the dust go everywhere - not good at all for the lungs! Please advise. Thanks.
We have the same problem Laura, so I made up an attachment using a short length of hose that was flexible enough to go down the back.
Hi I have the first one you showed, where can I buy the little c clips as one broke :(
Stelrad.
Thanks
Thanks so much for this video.
You are so welcome!
Very helpful, thanks
You're welcome!
I have a little nut holding my rad sides on at the back, but it looks like they go into the pipe. Can you advise.. Images available if needed :-)
Send me the images to alanawall@aol.com

Mine is a wrap around grill but has no clip? So frustrating trying get it off, any advice other than throwing the whole thing out the window? Haha
Probably the best bet. Ha ha.
I have a different but related problem. My radiators in a relatively new build house, approx 20 years old have obviously never been cleaned and are all extremely wonky on the walls. And dirty too. They are different on the front to the ones in your videos having wide horizontal corrugations rather than the vertical ones you show. Very very ugly! But it is the wonkiness that drives me crazy. I could clean and paint them presumably, the look as if someone has painted them before ages ago. But how do I make them straight again? They are quite tall ones so very obvious. Even if I put a shelf above them they would still look janky and badly aligned. They are wall hung so it is not that they are uneven on the floor, any remedies would be much appreciated.
I am guessing they are attached to plaster board walls.. They will have to be removed and re-fixed using proper plaster board fixings.
this was so helpful! Unfortunately I looked up your video after I found myself in a bit of a pickle. I took it off the wrong way taking the top grill out and leaving the side bits in, then I found it extremely difficult to put back on. There were two metal bits sticking out of the side grill facing upwards and I didn't know what to do with them, in the end I just folded them down with pliers and managed but I don't think that's correct! What should I have done?
Kittykat did you find the correct way to put it back on with the metal clips at the bottom
@@scodowski2483 I think I managed in the end! Not sure if it was absolutely correct but got the covers back on.
I have a myson , no clip and the sides look to be holding the top down like a double ,no way will the sides slide upwards as the hole for the bleed valve has no slot or plastic cover ,?
They have to be pulled sideways off and not upwards.
@@dereton33 thanks , thought maybe that but was scared of pulling too hard , 👍👍👍
Excellent demo of how to remove these wretched things. My advice would be once you've got them off leave them off they serve little purpose other than being an over engineered piece of plastic that allows the manufacturer to add a few quid to the price of the rads.
About right James.
I have Ultraheat slim rads where the top grill is screwed to the panel fins, how do I take it off?
You will have to undo the screws. Then lift away.
@@dereton33 thanks - that short conversation (and my plumbing bills to date) is the best selling pitch for infrared heating mats I have seen. #nomorerads
Very helpful, cheers
No problem 👍
Thanks a lot - finally know how to do it :-)
You're welcome!
My radiator has screws holding the radiator side panel . Can I simply unscrew it?
Yes .
Thanks, really good of you to take the rad off the wall
Any time!
Helpful!!!
Glad it was helpful!
Hi how do you remove a double radiator grill at the top
I have a video on a double one.
Thank you thank you thank you!!!!!!!!!
No problem.
I would be sorely tempted to remove that centre clip.
Norman Boyes yeah just leave the end ones which are accessible 👍🏻
My radiator has little white guards on them ,so I can’t open them.Does anyone else have this problem as well ,if so how do I clean them?
Thanks 👍
No problem 👍
Mines like this but has no clip no joy yet. Any advice?
It may need some assistance with a hammer and screwdriver.
Sounds like mine i can't get it off either and it's filled with cat hair. I cant have anyone help me either at the moment because of this covid. Wish there was an easier way to clean these types of heaters without the hassle of taking them apart no good with my disability.
Thanks you were 🌟EXCELLENT🌟🌟🌟 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
You're welcome 😊 Thanks Pat.
Mine is a double rad,but there isn’t any fittings on the back
Some models are like that.
Cheers
No problem.
Can’t find the trick on mine 😭
Some are hassel.
thank you I can get the cat hair out now
No problem Denise.
AVOID STELRAD radiators they are a real pain to clean. Even in this video all the frame has not been removed. My frame is rusting and I just can't get it off to repaint it properly.
Stelrads are the worse, but the cheapest, which is why there are so many of them.
wow could they have designed them any worse? wtf
No I guess not.
