6:26 I was listening to it as audio-only and heard the title as "Tequila Kingdom", and I was like "Damn, that's an interesting title!". Imagine my disappointment when I searched for the title in Goodreads and couldn't find it :/
There was an episode of the television spy comedy _Get Smart!_ back in the '60s called "The Tequila Mockingbird". Said mockingbird was a valuable statuette that the bad guys were trying to find. The episode was a parody of _The Maltese Falcon_ and _The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly,_ and had nothing, except the title, to do with Harper Lee's book.
I also discovered audiobooks this year and just YAY The Picture of Dorian Gray yeeeeeees! SO excited to read The Fifth Season (hopefully) this year. Thanks so much for gifting it to me
I'm currently reading To kill a kingdom and loving it so far! I picked it up just because it was a standalone cause I'm tired of all the endless trilogies etc and it looks like it will go to my top ten faves 😊🥰 Also agree, we need more standalone books pls
So many books on this list that I've also loved :) The Picture of Dorian Gray is one of my absolute faves, I actually wrote a paper on it once and got full marks, so good memories there haha But those plants in the background need some love :(
"...if you don't know what the hell you want to do with your life" well, looks like I gotta a book to buy😂 Great video Leonie! My favorites of 2020 were: The Chronicles of Narnia, Six of Crows and Mistborn. I clearly love fantasy!
Hey if you want more books with puzzles and things like that, the middle grade trilogy The Mysterious Benedict Society was my favorite series growing up! The first book is about a guy who assembles a group of gifted kids using a series of tests and puzzles to help him infiltrate a boarding school that's evil. Each member of the group excels in a certain type of smartness and they're all clever in different ways, but most importantly, it's like a spy/heist series filled with puzzles. I don't know if you read middle grade books, but I thought I'd suggest it based on The Gilded Wolves books!
Ah i loved radio silence when I read it in 2019! I read it when I started my senior year of high school so it was a great time, the themes were so nice In 2020 I enjoyed lady midnight much more than I thought I would and We Are the Ants also surprised me and became a favorite, a stand out was Beloved by Toni Morrison though one of the most unique books I’ve ever read
Omg how I love how you formulate sentences, I focus on each word you are saying. maybe the fact that you are not native (and I read only in English - also not being native) draws me to you
my favorites include pretty much everything by alice oseman except solitaire, especially radio silence! other than that, i also cried my eyeballs out when i read dear martin by nic stone. lastly, i read the hunger games trilogy for the first time this year and the first two books are definitely way up there as well!
May I recommend All The Lights We Cannot See and All The Bright Places? All the lights is about the connection between a french girl and a boy soldier during WW2, both connected by the power of radio. It’s a very touching book! All the birght places is about a boy who constantly thinks about dying and a girl who’s just gone through the death of a family member. They bond as they are paired for a group project in their school and along the way find meaning in the things that they find. This one is really heart wrenching and I couldn’t finish the book towards the end as a very big thing happened! It’s very well written as well!
Eleanor Oliphant was one my absolute favourite books of 2020 too. It was so easy to connect to her as a character and it was so moving. I still think about this book all the time! Definitely interested in reading Radio Silence now - adding to my TBR straight away.
❄My top 5 favorite books of this year are : 🌟Keeper of The Lost Cities 💖 🌟 Edenbrooke by Julianne Donaldson 💖 🌟Seeking Persephone by Sarah M. Eden 💖 🌟The House in the Cerulean Sea 💖 🌟I love you so Mochi by Sarah Kuhn 💖
I love your earrings!! I read Eleanor Olliphant is Completely Fine in 2020 too and absolutely adored it! I had to reread it too haha it was very "wholesome and sad" as you said.... I talked about it in my honorary mentions favorites of 2020 video hahah! the fifth season is a work of absolute genius !!
Eleanor Oliphant is on my 2021 tbr and i’m so excited to get to it!! Chloe Brown was very cute. I loved it. I was not too much of a fan of To Kill a Kingdom, but i’m so happy you enjoyed it!
Also based on your review of The Silvered Serpents and you mentioning the riddles I recommend "Die Judas Papiere" by Rainer M. Schröder :) It's a german adventure story (it's not translated into english but I saw on goodreads that it was translated into dutch!) of a group of people who travel through Europe and more to find some lost papers, they have to solve a lot of riddles and aghhhh it's so good. It was my biggest surprise of 2020 :)
@@rosa5207 That's a cool idea! I loved it so much so anyone reading it makes me happy haha 🥰 as for the german I wouldn't say it's hard, it's destined for teens - young adult, but it definetely is a chunky one (around 700-800 pages) so just have that in mind lol Good luck if you read and I hope you'll love it!! :)
i read the gilded wolves twice this year because i really really love it and i just bought the silvered serpents. it's my next read and i'm hella excited now!!
I enjoy your recommendation style 😁 & the lava lamp is going strong. Best of 2020 for me was Leviathan Wakes by James S A Corey (book 1); Shattered Gears by Jeff Somers (book 5); All the Animals in that Country by Laura McKay (stand alone). I also read a dozen classics, most of which I thoroughly enjoyed - Dune - The Call of the Wild - Lolita - From the Mountains of Madness - Earth Abides - Of Mice & Men - Ethan Frome ...
Omg, I am so excited to read Humankind ever since I heard an interview with Bregman, I read Utopia for realists this week in like three days but I have higher expections for Humankind, hope it won't let me down 🙃 I got through the prologue but now I feel sick and I'm more in the mood for fiction so it'll hav eto wait a bit longer...
YA fantasy stand-alone I would recommend: Deeplight! I haven’t heard anyone talk about it and just found it because it was on display in my bookstore, but I really liked it. It has sea gods/monsters, need I say more...
I honestly want to read any fantasy stand alone. I can buy a series but i feel like i can buy more stand alone books of any genre with the money just for that one series 😅
I loved The Broken Earth Trilogy and Fantasy is not my normal genre. The second person narration hooked me in instantly, and I thought it was brilliant how it all tied up eventually in the end of the 3rd book. I also loved Eleanor is Completely Fine. I liked how you reviewed this book, and I agree with the way you presented it. I did not find it funny as the cover of my copy reviews it: "Incredibly funny." I bought it expecting it to be "incredibly funny," but I cried instead of laughing. I thought it was heartbreaking with a message of hope for healing a broken life.
1:40 - Yeah, that book seems necessary after this year! 'Fifth Season' and 'Gilded Wolves' are definitely on my list. My favorite first-time reads of 2020: 'The pull of the stars' (Historical Fiction, 1918 flu, tragic Sapphic romance) ajungleoftales.blogspot.com/2020/12/first-impressions-review-pull-of-stars.html 'This is how you lose the time war' (Time travel, enemies-to-lovers, beautiful writing, not-tragic Sapphic romance) ajungleoftales.blogspot.com/2020/10/first-impressions-review-this-is-how.html 'A woman of no importance' (Historical, one-legged female spy evaded Gestapo) ajungleoftales.blogspot.com/2020/09/it-oughta-be-movie-woman-of-no.html 'The southern book club's guide to slaying vampires' (Like it says on the tin, but more serious than that sounds, with a surprising amount of social commentary on racism, sexism, etc.) ajungleoftales.blogspot.com/2020/10/first-impressions-review-southern-book.html Old-favorite re-reads of 2020: A whole bunch of Terry Pratchett 'Discworld' books (Fantasy, satire) ajungleoftales.blogspot.com/2020/09/re-read-reviews-discworld-series-by.html 'Mistress of the art of death' (Historical fiction, mystery, dark and gritty but also humor, friendship, & romance) ajungleoftales.blogspot.com/2020/08/re-read-review-mistress-of-art-of-death.html 'In pursuit of the green lion' (More medieval historical fiction but with a magical-realism element. Like MOTAOD, has good characters, friendship, and romance; some dark stuff, but a lighter overall tone.) ajungleoftales.blogspot.com/2020/12/it-oughta-be-movie-in-pursuit-of-green.html Hmm. Just noticed all my old favorites mix social commentary with humor, 6.2/7 have female protagonists, 6/7 have a historical element, 4/7 have fantasy elements, and 2 or 3*/4 of the new ones are gay . Not that I didn't know I liked all that stuff, just didn't expect them to clump so much in just 6 books + 1 series! * - Pretty sure there's a bunch of subtext in 'A woman of no importance' (including the title, which it shares with an Oscar Wilde play).
also I reread a lot of books this year but my top picks for new books were probably in the time of butterflies, half of a yellow sun, and teen titans: raven. I also found some really great fanfics on ao3 that DESERVE to be published.
I had heard quite a lot of people talk about Get a Life Chloe Brown and I hadn't been convinced to read it but your description made me put it on my TBR!
Ah YAY! I wasn't sure if you were going to put out a favorites of 2020 video The audiobook for Ninth House is my "comfort read" for whenever I'm walking or doing chores and I just need something on in the background. Can't wait until the sequel comes out!
My favorite books of the year were the Stormlight Archive books, The Burning books, and The Band books. I also finally got around to reading Animal Farm, which was an interesting time to finally read. Currently reading The Blade Itself. Clearly I like fantasy 😂 I need to dip back into Philosophy though.
The Picture of Dorian Gray is also one of my favourite classics. It is fantastic. This year I have found quite a few new favourites. We have Ariel by Sylvia Plath and Tell Me the Truth About Love by W.H. Auden. These are both poetry collections that I read right after one another in one sitting. I also read my first prose book which became a favourite, Long Way Down by Jason Reynolds. This boy is going to avenge his brother's death, and whilst in an elevator ghosts keeps appearing. It is just an amazing book and so impactful and brilliant. I also love The Deep by Rivers Solomon which is a mermaid story dealing with traumatic history and how it affects a group of people. Station Eleven is also on the list which is a post-apocolyptic book post a pandemic but it is so well written and I just absolutely adored the book. I would say it is a bit weak in the actual story/plot of the book but I didn't go to it for that and a million other things stood out to me. Another big favourite of mine is The Ten Thousand Doors of January by Alix E. Harrow, which is a whimsical historic fantasy involving magical doors.
YESSSS I need Radio Silence in my life right now!! I definitely did NOT get the good grades in high school LOL, but I have been dying to read a book with great friendship themes! I really hope to read The Fifth Season in the near future!!!
I read A Wizard of Earthsea in December and promptly bought the whole collected edition. As someone who doesn't usually like fantasy (I'm definitely more just a contemporary or scifi fan) it was a pleasant surprise - it felt like a book I had read as a child and rediscovered as an adult! I also read "End of Loneliness" by Benedict Wells, which I read in one sitting and bawled my eyes out at. Those two books were definitely my favorite reads out of the 80+ books I somehow managed to read in the hell year 😭
My recommendations are Imperium by Robert Harris and The Song Of Achilles by Madelaine Miller! If you’re interested in Rome and mythology, that is :) btw i’m going to read silvered serpents now, it sounded awesome the way you put it haha
SUCH A GREAT VIDEO !!! hahahah same happens to me when talking about books i love! i'll just say "yeah, i love it" with synonyms over and over again, but i can find so many words for the stories i didn't like hahaha. thanks for the book recs! i wish you a lovely 2021 full of great books and good things in life! kisses😍
Also read the Gilded Wolves/Silvered Serpent if you want to read about characters from different ethnic backgrounds and if you want to read about non-heterosexual romance!
I can relate, the minute my library started lending out books again my brain just kinda went into reading overdrive and I'll raze through a book or two in a week
Dorian Grey is my shit! Read Utopia for Realists by Rutger Bregman so Human Kind is a definite checkout. Top 7 of the year in chronological order of when I read them: 1. Everything I never told you by Celeste Ng 2. The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini 3. Kings of the Wyld by Nicholas Eames 4. Flowers for Algernon by Daniel Keyes 5. The Overstory by Richard Powers 6. The Troop by Nick Cutter 7. Nevernight Chronicle by Jay Kristoff
The way i can HIGHLY relate to that "me talking about books that i like" comment on yours had me laughing on the first few minutes. Loved the video! Hope to see you soon 🤓
1:39 ah yes, de meeste mensen deugen. At a point in the life of my family, this book has just became a gigantic meme😂 my top book of this year was a thousand splendid suns. Not only did I cry during the read, I also cried when I closed the book because I knew that I would never be able to be horrified and love the book as much as on the 1st time. That has only happened to me once before, 5 years ago, when I closed the Deathly Hallows. Currently I am reading the night circus by Erin Morgenstein, and that might be my favorite book of 2021 in eleven months. I can just feel that happening.
I still need to finish Dorian Gray! I'm afraid he is going to make me upset with his Dorian Grayness. I did find a new favorite author this year, who is Patricia A. McKillip. I recommend all her work, but I love The Forgotten Beasts of Eld. Looking forward to seeing what you'll be reading this year!
I just bumped into your channel and I subscribed immediately. The way you deliver your thoughts and talk about books you like and even dislike is very interesting and makes me think about stuff more which is gooood. ❤👌
So I just came across your channel due to looking up what speaking in Dutch(I was curious. Lol) sounds like and saw that you’re a big book reader and I, personally, have been aiming to read a lot more the past two year too, so I’m totally subscribed now. Loving your videos!!!!
"I would recommend this book to anyone who likes training montages in movies" and most likely, those who think that the video montage for "Make a man out of you" from Mulan is superior!
Hi Leo ! Radio Silence was on my top of 2019, and it is one of my favorite books ever ! I've met Alice Oseman in France one year ago and she is super cute ! 💛
If you want a YA contemporary in your favourite list for 2021, I would recommand I'll give you the sun by Jandy Nelson which is perfection (objectively of course ^^) Also, have you read the secret history by Donna Tartt, also perfection dark academia !
I came across a new author on amazon by the name "Mary Selseleh" . You go through a series of different emotions reading her books. I couldn't put the books down for days. Suer engaging and just different if you´re in for a new adventure.
That's kinda why people hate it, they're expecting the same thing but the only thing they have in common is heist and found family which is stupid bc so so many books have these two things
12:47 Oooooooo. Hello. I have so many books on my TBR. I can read 200 books this year right? Lol Okay, officially doesn't matter I'm reading those next!
omg I loved this!! also you are so funny! in the way that you express yourself I mean (I mean this in a good way, sorry English is not my first language either and sometimes I struggle to find the right word) thank you for sharing!! :)
I really love your "I recommend this if . . ." section. That's such a great idea to do!

i filmed this right after the worst books video hehe
AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH

SO excited to read The Fifth Season (hopefully) this year. Thanks so much for gifting it to me
i really hope you will enjoy it!
"I would recommend this book to anyone who likes training montages in movies" FINALLY A RECOMMENDATION FOR ME!!
I'm currently reading To kill a kingdom and loving it so far! I picked it up just because it was a standalone cause I'm tired of all the endless trilogies etc and it looks like it will go to my top ten faves 😊🥰 Also agree, we need more standalone books pls
You give the best pitches for all of these books. You make me want to read all of the ones I haven’t already picked up.
So many books on this list that I've also loved :) The Picture of Dorian Gray is one of my absolute faves, I actually wrote a paper on it once and got full marks, so good memories there haha
But those plants in the background need some love :(
I love the format of this video- recommending the books specifically to people was such a great idea!!

Great video Leonie!
Despite what you said in the beginning, You are very good at recommending books!! You make every book sound interesting and super fun!
Omg how I love how you formulate sentences, I focus on each word you are saying. maybe the fact that you are not native (and I read only in English - also not being native) draws me to you
You are actually so frk good at editing. These subtle zooms, sounds, the colours. It really makes your videos so good!!! ❤️
my favorites include pretty much everything by alice oseman except solitaire, especially radio silence! other than that, i also cried my eyeballs out when i read dear martin by nic stone. lastly, i read the hunger games trilogy for the first time this year and the first two books are definitely way up there as well!

Those two books were definitely my favorite reads out of the 80+ books I somehow managed to read in the hell year 😭
I love the recommendations. The Silvered Serpents is definitely something to check out!
I love how you explained why (not) one would like the book!
You inspired me to start my own UA-cam channel! I feel so happy! :)
All the best for your channel.
I’m the same way, if I like a book I’m just like “yeah it’s good” and I can’t think of anything else to say
We have same taste in books, I can tell that much. I’m adding the ninth house to my list. ✨
I've seen the gilded wolves talked about on booktube, but have never heard it described like that and now I really want to read it!!!
My recommendations are Imperium by Robert Harris and The Song Of Achilles by Madelaine Miller! If you’re interested in Rome and mythology, that is :)
btw i’m going to read silvered serpents now, it sounded awesome the way you put it haha
SUCH A GREAT VIDEO !!! hahahah same happens to me when talking about books i love! i'll just say "yeah, i love it" with synonyms over and over again, but i can find so many words for the stories i didn't like hahaha. thanks for the book recs! i wish you a lovely 2021 full of great books and good things in life! kisses😍
UA-cam: there are three comments
Me: okay can i see them
UA-cam: YOU'RE NOT WORTHY
Great video! I really loved your idea to pitch the books by what kind of reader would enjoy them. It worked perfectly! 💖
Top 7 of the year in chronological order of when I read them:
1. Everything I never told you by Celeste Ng
2. The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini
3. Kings of the Wyld by Nicholas Eames
4. Flowers for Algernon by Daniel Keyes
5. The Overstory by Richard Powers
6. The Troop by Nick Cutter
7. Nevernight Chronicle by Jay Kristoff
Great recommendations and of course, Mozart at the end was the cherry on top of it.
Loved this format!! I will be picking up the gilded wolves and I subscribed as soon as you put 1984 up!
The way i can HIGHLY relate to that "me talking about books that i like" comment on yours had me laughing on the first few minutes. Loved the video! Hope to see you soon 🤓
I have no idea why I'm just now discovering your channel, but I'm so glad I did! Your videos just make happy, they really do!♥♥♥
Have you read the All Souls Trilogy because if not I highly recommend
The series that you talked about last seems really interesting, I'll definitely check it out.
I can just feel that happening.
you said heist and found family and i added it to my tbr IMMEDIATELY. those are the magical words to me
I still need to finish Dorian Gray! I'm afraid he is going to make me upset with his Dorian Grayness. I did find a new favorite author this year, who is Patricia A. McKillip. I recommend all her work, but I love The Forgotten Beasts of Eld. Looking forward to seeing what you'll be reading this year!
I loved how you recommended the books to certain people in this video (without spoiling - except the heist but that’s obvious 😅)
I just bumped into your channel and I subscribed immediately. The way you deliver your thoughts and talk about books you like and even dislike is very interesting and makes me think about stuff more which is gooood. ❤👌
The Picture of Dorian Gray is also one of my favorite classics :)
So I just came across your channel due to looking up what speaking in Dutch(I was curious. Lol) sounds like and saw that you’re a big book reader and I, personally, have been aiming to read a lot more the past two year too, so I’m totally subscribed now. Loving your videos!!!!
The Poppy War series is Sooooo Good💖
"I would recommend this book to anyone who likes training montages in movies" and most likely, those who think that the video montage for "Make a man out of you" from Mulan is superior!
I just- love this comment
Thats what I thought of when I heard her say that lol
yay ninth house is also my fav book of 2020 :D
If you want to add a classic to ur list (and you stan timothée 😉), I recommend that you read Dune by Frank Herbert. It's prep for the movie.
i wanna try to read that before the movie!
Riddle? What has it got in its pocketses?
Hi Leo ! Radio Silence was on my top of 2019, and it is one of my favorite books ever ! I've met Alice Oseman in France one year ago and she is super cute ! 💛
Luckyyy
If you want a YA contemporary in your favourite list for 2021, I would recommand I'll give you the sun by Jandy Nelson which is perfection (objectively of course ^^)
Also, have you read the secret history by Donna Tartt, also perfection dark academia !
Oooohh some very intresting picks ... exited to pick up these.
The fifth season is one of the most provocative and creative books I’ve read in a very long time. Beautiful, personal and scary.
Love love the From Blood and Ash trilogy so far! Just finished the second and can’t wait for the 3rd 😃
I don't think it's a trilogy, there are going to be four books!
@@courtney1274 thank the universe if that’s true! 👌🏽👌🏽
yesss To Kill A Kingdom is so underrated!!
I came across a new author on amazon by the name "Mary Selseleh" . You go through a series of different emotions reading her books. I couldn't put the books down for days. Suer engaging and just different if you´re in for a new adventure.
if you haven't already, you should read gameboard of the gods by richelle mead! an amazingly underrated book in my opinion
Yes yes yes - starting off strong for me with that honorable mention! 😍
1984 is one of my favourite books of all time glad you included it
YAY!!! Get A Life Chloe Brown is on my TBR. I really want to get to it in 2021💕😄
I need the lavalamp to be a regular on your channel 😂
so basically The Silvered Serpents is recommended to fans of Six of Crows? :D
That's kinda why people hate it, they're expecting the same thing but the only thing they have in common is heist and found family which is stupid bc so so many books have these two things
12:47
Oooooooo.
Hello.
I have so many books on my TBR. I can read 200 books this year right? Lol
Okay, officially doesn't matter I'm reading those next!
Hey Leonie, my favorite books was Fahrenheit 451 and Flowers for Algernon!! 😊 greetings from brazil!
I read flowers for Algernon too and loved it!!
The fifth season sounds sooooooo good, I need to pick it up like yesterday
The circust night
The Inkworld saga ( my favorite one so far)
The crown's game
