Great review. I just got this drone. As a new pilot I wanted something decent but didn't want to spend a lot in case I crashed. I was flying yesterday for about an hour (2 batteries) and just couldn't be happier. It was very stable, I never lost signal and the video was good. I need work on my flying skills to keep the video steady but I'm working on that. It is pretty fast too. Over all I am extremely pleased with my purchase. I'm sure I'll want to upgrade in the future but not before I get better skills and find out what's important to me. Just a great beginner drone! Thanks for the review and I agree with your pros/cons points.
Thank you very much for the info! With a sample of 1 it's good to confirm other's experiences for sure. Glad you're having a good performance too! You are actually doing it right, and having to work a little to get cinematic video with a model that doesn't do it all for you will pay off for you in the end. IMHO, for the price Potensic has nailed this one, can't wait for the 3-axis model! Good Flying!
Glad you commented on the wireless mic interference, very good to know. I suspect that is the case for many/most of the reviewers as we almost all have mics on for these reviews. Also good practice to put the phone in airplane mode as it is also a transmitter and potential source of interference. Reviewers and commenters keep commenting on the 'tilted' horizon as it if that is a design flaw. Without the gimbal, like you said, if there is wind the drone will tilt to hold it's position and so will the video. EIS isn't there to fix that so that might be a deal breaker for some folks. I think this drone is a great value, high hopes for the new one coming that is supposed to have a gimbal, hopefully the price says low. Thanks for the review.
Thanks for the kind words, appreciate it! I try to be fair and thorough, glad the quality and extra work shows through! Absolutely, I almost always fly in airplane mode, prevents a lot of issues. The 3-axis gimbal version keeps getting delayed, but I'm looking forward to it as well. 🤙🤙
I comparison shopped, learning and losing other drones for months. I fly in the city. This is it! Does what I need and want. Resolution is excellent. Stop nit-picking. For about 200 dollars, this is it! You'll never remake Gone With the Wind. Get real. DJI can go scratch. The Potensic SE doesn't crash. Controller is perfect for me. I'll get a 3 axis model soon.
The DJI Mini2 SE for the comparable package is about twice the cost and the FIMI is about 50% higher, so though they are decent fliers it's not the same price point.
@@colnando Indeed, it's important to compare apples to apples fairly, otherwise you're just trying to justify your personal bias, which isn't that helpful to others. 🤙
I'd say the DJI mini 2 SE is a really good price comparison. You can get the drone and battery package for $299 and add a 2nd batter for $40. If you need a case it's an extra $10-35 depending on what you get. So for the potensic $299 bundle you're only getting a case and battery extra. To build the exact same DJI bundle you can get it for about $350. Only a $50 price difference
11:10 GPS updates the ephemeris continually and it takes 12.5 minutes to update completely. The ephemeris is the orbital parameters of the satellites, from that the drone or any other receiving station calculates its position. The longer it has been since you updated the ephemeris, the greater is going to be the difference when it receives the updates. So if you launch a drone with old ephemeris, as time passes it will get updates, slowly, one by one; each update refines its position accuracy. For maximum precision of return to home, leaving it powered on receiving satellites for 12 minutes and THEN launching it should improve things substantially. I sit corrected; but it has been a long time "Each frame contains a part of the almanac (in subframes 4 and 5) and the complete almanac is transmitted by each satellite in 25 frames total (requiring 12.5 minutes" So the Almanac not the ephemeris, is updated in 12.5 minutes. "An ephemeris is valid for only four hours; an almanac is valid with little dilution of precision for up to two weeks." At any rate, a drone rapidly resolves its initial position estimate within 30 seconds or so of startup. A DJI drone says "warming up" but that's not really what it is doing; it is waiting for those GPS position updates among other things. As it says, the almanac has a lifespan of two weeks although there will be some gradual drift. That's what the drone relies on if it has been sitting turned off for some days or longer. The ephemeris is good for only 4 hours but apparently updates much quicker than 12 minutes. For maximum precision, therefore, IF you have not turned on the drone for 12.5 minutes in the past two weeks, you should do so while it sits on the ground OR accept that its return to home is not going to be precise. But if you have been operating the drone in the past two weeks, you can get by with a 30 second GPS update. If you have been flying in the past 4 hours, no wait is needed. GPS lock should be nearly instant and go!
@@benitomoshpito6705No you can't. And that's not a problem. This is the perfect prepper drone. You can watch your property or other areas perfectly. The range is enough and the drone itself is way sturdier than any DJI mini. Because of the gimbal weight loss. The weight is used in the housing. Perfect drone for surveillance
Thank you so much for the sweet review! You really put love in your videos. Nice transitions and very good editing. Of course you talked abiut every important point without doing a 50 minutes Video. Keep up the good work!
3 questions. 1- how to unlock the flying range the way you did? Mine doesn’t fly that far. 2- how to switch the footage from landscape to portrait? 3- how to record videos straight on the app and not in the SD card?
I actually like this drone. Yes, it's got those slight issues that do need improvement but so far I've got value for my money. And the fact that it doesn't record audio saves alot on deleting audio during post production.
Great review! That tip about 2.4Ghz interference was solid gold since I didn't find anything about it in the user manual. Thank you for that! Oh, and fyi - I have been in contact with Potensic, and was informed that they ARE going to be coming out with a 3 axis version of the ATOM SE later this year... No mention of the price point from them.
Thanks for sharing what you did, and for making it simple to follow and for you not wasting your words. In November, I bought a Flightelf Cine 248 Gram drone with lots of bells and whistles for the price of $329 out the online door(shipped from China and received in 2 weeks!) I have yet to try it out. This is my very first drone. I live in Maine and it's been also cold here like it was for you, too. My drone came with 3 batteries. I will get out there this Spring and try to have some "old man fun" some. The kite I bought 7 years ago just sits here unused though, but a drone should make me want to get out there is what I was thinking when I bought it. I'll have time to read up on things before I fly it. I haven't much clue what I'm doing though. I just want to fly it over the Back Cove and share videos is mostly my goal. Thanks again for sharing what you've learned and think regarding drones. I can't fine many Flightelf Cine drone tutorials so these others help me gain some confidence and give me clues on what to do and not to do.
Thanks for sharing! It's a fun hobby if the drone flies well. If you get one that is hard to fly or goes out of control by itself it can be a frustrating experience for sure. If you haven't already, make sure you take the FAA "TRUST" test, it's easy, free and you'll learn some good info! I'd recommend going to the "Pilot Institute" one. www.faa.gov/uas/recreational_flyers/knowledge_test_updates 🤙🤙 Good Flying!
I first want to say nice review. The only problem is you went through the start up to fast. I'm having problems with the controller connection to the drone. I'm not sure if I'm doing it right. Or if I'm doing it in the right order. I always get that explanation mark between the start and the control. Thanks
Thanks, and sorry about that. I don't do quite as much instruction there as I used to as a lot of people get bogged down in the details and just want me to get to showing how it flies. I didn't notice anything finicky, first start the app on the phone, connect the cable to your phone, turn on the remote, give it a few seconds so it sees it, then turn on the drone and the connection to the drone should happen. Then you can continue into the app and see the FPV/settings/fly... Might want to reach out to Potensic if something isn't connecting, perhaps you need to rebind the controller with the drone or something.
Thank you for getting back to me. I had a younger friend stop and yes i was doing everything wrong..Lol, the only problem we ran into was we could not get the R.T.H and Follow me to work. But all is good Thank you
I enjoyed and benefited from your review. I also appreciated how you followed up on your troubled feelings about the range test to determine that your mic was the culprit foiling it.
Just found your channel. Loved the video! The manor in which you explain things is excellent. I'm 69 years old. I'm a landscape architect and photographer. I have some experience flying RC Helicopters and Quad Copters. I felt I knew what to expect in this price range. So... I was very glad to know that you feel it's value for price is great as well. You have much more experience at this than I do. I just purchased this drone yesterday, and it arrived today. I have a feeling this drone will do just fine for what I will ask of it. Really looking forward to using this little drone. Thanks for your time and effort in bringing this video full of outstanding information, to all of us. And I did hit the subscribe button.
I don't know if it was added later, but the instruction manual on the Potensic I bought last summer said, if using an iPhone to put it in airplane mode. The first time I flew the drone it was behaving the same way as your first test flights...getting choppy and then a forced return after not too great of a distance. I wasn't using a mic or anything else external. After rereading the instructions and picking up on the airplane mode suggestion, I flew it again and this time I got the expected range. I love this drone...sure I'd love a gimbal but I'm not a big fan of the price point that gets me that feature.
The camera's not bad for the price, the drone seems to be a little tilty. The DJI microphone had wind noise, so I'm guessing there was no wind suppression. After spending my share of $300 on drone such as the one you're showing I bought a DJI mini 3 pro and spent the extra money, I'm very happy with what I have now.
Thanks for sharing! Usually you get what you pay for, and the mini 3 pro is a quality product for sure! You're right, I probably should have attached the wind screen to the microphone, didn't think about it at the time, was more worried about not freezing to death in the moment! ❄ 👍
@@AlienDrones thanks for responding to my comment. The microphone sounded clear except for the wind noise. It's a shame the Wi-Fi from the microphone was interfering with the drone. Keep up the good work.
Well done video -- THANKS! Does this drone have the (dreaded!) airport-nearby-stop-now "feature" that many other drones have? I intend to use caution and obey all laws, but do not need a big brother to intervene at a local long abandoned airport.
YOO, if potensic put a 3 axis gimbal on this drone man its gonna be so good the orbit looks stable and you are in the middle, mini se bout to have some competition
I have the mini 2 se and the atom. Honestly, they both fly exactly the same really well very stable. The cameras are good. The controller is good. Just a nice low price drone gets the job done And just for fun grab some cheap VR goggles stick your phone in there put the drone and FPV mode and get a little taste of FPV of course it’s not even close but it’s fun
I have toyed with idea of getting a drone on and off for years. I started looking around recently to see what decent but relatively cheap options were available and if DJI were still the only real brand. I hadn't heard of Potensic but after looking I settled on the 3-axis gimbal one you mentioned. Then I ordered this one instead because of the extra battery and wanting it to be simple. I'm glad to see that it performs well aside from a few things you pointed out like the camera panning speed.
Awesome, thanks for sharing! This one is a really good farting around drone for sure. If the gimbal tilt isn't a big deal for your style it does a good job and is a good flier for the price... 🤙🤙
Great starter drone. Don't do return to home with objects above the drone as it promptly ascends on it's own when activated. Really easy to fly and fun.
I've flown this same drone. I agree on you the cons. Some fairly easy to fix on APP updates. Noticed RTH didnt land in pad. I live in Florida and warm to hot days it landed right in pad. Coldest we tried was 32 dreees Ferinhite. It landed 2 ft away. During lift off if i moved my position it also affected RTH to pad.
Thanks for sharing! 32° F? That's downright balmy! I just received a message from Potensic stating that they will be pushing a firmware update that will make the RTH more accurate too. The EXO Blackhawk 2 and the Skydio 2+ actually search for the pad and fliy over to it, pretty cool to watch and pretty accurate. Comparatively for the price though they should not only hit the pad but make me breakfast in bed once in a while too... 😂 Good Flying!
@@AlienDrones That great to hear Potensic is listening. In fact your video is now in Potensic would group. I only give compliments to deserving reviewers. Your video impressed me so much. I sent a link to CS rep . I dont have first hand experience with FIMI or EXO. However watching your videos has grabbed my attention.
I've never thought of the tilt to the horizon a detriment. That's what you see on a motorcycle and an airplane. What's the big deal. My first drone and I love it.
Great review! I just ordered it from Amazon, and I can't wait to test it. I ordered a Ruko F11 Mini yesterday, and I heard people complain that the video is not stable, then I made another order (Potensic). After reviewing your video, I am pretty sure I am going to return the Ruko, and I don't think it's worth testing it.
Thanks! I have both, the EIS on the Potensic will make the video stable and usable if you don't make sharp stick movements, though the horizon might not be perfectly level all the time. The F11 has no stabilization and the video is no where near the quality of the Potensic, though the Ruko is a good little flier. For the price, and if you want halfway decent video on a budget, the Atom SE will probably be a better choice. Try them out and let me know what you find out!
Honest review much appreciated I looked at this one but went with the dji mini2 se in the end and very happy with it but I think they're both very good and anyone would be happy with either .Gimbal just made more sense to me.
I learned to be wary of the position when it gets behind me and not to go the wrong direction , lol. This defintely takes some practice just floating around for a while and making small movements before going full throttle and zipping around . I don’t think it’s wise to operate one of these as a noob where there’s a lot of obstructions .
Outstanding review. Thanks for such a great review. Covered everything I needed and more. 1 Year on, what are your current thoughts on this, now that the 3-axis gimbal version is available?
Thanks for sharing! The SE is still a capable drone and is a good inexpensive option if you need a down and dirty drone that's a good flyer and the horizon tilt isn't an issue for the way you fly. It seems that Potensic is updating the 3-axis ATOM often and it continues to improve. The 3-axis is one of the best in class for the price and for the slight increase in price is probably a slightly better overall value than the SE now IMO.
That's an interesting question, as they are so different in price. If you add a battery and a case to the DJI mini SE to make it similar in what you get, you're at about $525, which is double the price of the Potensic ATOM SE. So to some extent you get what you pay for so if you can afford the DJI Mini SE, you will of course get more for double the money like a 3-axis gimbal and additional smart modes/functionality. If the gimbal is crucial for you then you have to go with the DJI, but if you want to fiddle around a bit and see if you even like drones at all, the Potensic is stable and does decent pics and the video is okay, though you do have tradeoff for the price of the horizon tilt... Hope that helps!
I just bought one of these on EBay from the factory, they said these are refurbished returns, The 2 battery Fly More Combo, $157 (they accepted my offer), free shipping. I choose this because my current drone, MJX Bugs 2SE, needs RID!
@@AlienDrones I got lucky, to unit I received was actually brand new, the cardboard box had gotten wet, but inside the included travel case all was perfect.
Love your video! Just got Atom and managed first flight. Great fun and pretty easy for a newbie like me. The main question I have is, HOW did you get the great audio on your footage??? Sorry if that's a silly question but I am brand new! Thanks.
Thanks, glad you like it! I use a wireless microphone like the DJI mic and record locally to my main camera, then sync it all up afterwards when creating the video. Good Flying! 🤙
Great video. I'm impressed how the EIS works. My son is bugging me about him wanting a drone. That 3axis appears. I'll have to get him one. Thanks again. An Keep On Flying
HI.I have a problem with my new dron potensic atom se. I dont know if the problem is the smartphone or what can be the problem. The problem is that i can´t see the image of the camera . I have restarted the aplication but i can´t see images. The remote control conects with dron , and i can fly, i can see gps, distance, maps but the screen of the smarttphone appears black and images dont appear. What can be the problem?thank you
Thanks for the amazing and detailed review. I really enjoyed it so much.. I am wondering how the 3-axis gimbal version will be? I am expecting to be fantastic.... Actually I was going to get this model.. Then I thought to wait a little bit to get the next model.. But I talked to Potensic support team, they didn't mention release date for the newer version. They said "And our ATOM SE drone with a gimbals camera will be launched in this year,"... So I think we have to wait and see.. Hope its price will be a reasonable one.. Anyway, thanks again and keep it up
I was checking similar drones like Potesnic atome se, I came across "Fimi X8 Mini Version 2".. I want to hear your thoughts about this..And If you can do a review, it will be awesome ;)
Hey, great review. I'm loving mine so far. Quick question Do you know what's the return home altitud? Can it be modified to be higher due to obstacles?
Thanks very much. Just found a lightening deal on Amazon for $50 off and it also took your coupon code for a total of $65 off the $299. I am in similar climate so likely won't be flying it until spring!!
Thanks and Good question! I would say B+. For the current price, it would go to an "A" if the horizon tilt were better (not even gone, but significantly better) and an "A+" if they improved both the horizon tilt _and_ the gimbal tilt/roll speed (in that order). Anything else, like bigger camera sensor, more elaborate built in functions, additional manual settings (shutter speed, ISO, stick speed profile, longer flight time, etc.) I'd be willing to pay more for, but the two main items would need to be fixed/improved first. Without it being such a good flier, nothing else would really matter, so that has to stay the same/improve. But as it is, still a good value. 🤙
I'm still doubt which one should i choose between atom or atom se, since se is much cheaper and i dont need any spesific needs in gimbal or any kind of that
Both are great little fliers so just match your drone with your needs. If you don't need the gimbal and want to save about $100 then the SE is a good choice, and this one has a couple of batteries (always get at least 2). amzn.to/4czzhCJ I notice they do seem to update and add functions to the 3-axis ATOM more often and the gimbal does add a lot of stability to the videos, plus I think it flies just a touch better. If you think you might like flying, the ATOM 3-axis will allow you to grow into the drone a bit more as it does have more functions and features... amzn.to/3MbqmN3 Hope this helps!
Great video honest and fair love it when I watch your videos especially the intro where a drone plops in the pond behind and you looking up to the sky makes me giggle every single time, genius, love it, I have an Autel nano plus on order and will also get this Potensic as I have watched so many great reviews....keep it up mate especially the comedy 😂😂😂
I've had really good luck with the one I have, no toilet bowling at all. ua-cam.com/video/M1tDvGvO6NY/v-deo.html I use it once in a while just for a quick vid or pic and it is _pretty_ solid (it does wander a little, but nothing bad). The horizon tilt is a bummer, not going to get cinematic shots if it's windy and the horizon is in view, or if you have to make quick pans back and forth, but it will help the pilot get better too as you will have to work to get that shot! It was fairly windy the day I recorded this vid 4:07 too (you can see the flag is straight out). Had a lot of comments that others have had similar experiences to mine and I didn't hear anyone having toilet bowling issues, that's not good. For me, $249 (sale price right now) for a fly-more pkg with multiple batteries and a case is about right.
I’m brand new to the serious drone world so I wasn’t sure what to expect..and I bought it before seeing your review…but you did a good job and I appreciate your effort. However, I don’t understand why it needs an SD card…why can’t it just record to your phone? Seems to me that’s easy enough to do…but mine won’t,
This is the same with most if not all drones, you can record to your phone but only low resolution. The amount of data that would be required to transmit real time 4k video or high resolution photos to your phone would overwhelm both the drone control signal and probably the CPU in most phones, so they record the higher resolution version of video or pictures to the SD card locally instead. You do have to have an appropriate type and size SD card in the drone for it to work, and it is best to format it in the drone itself (if the app has the option to do that somewhere, I don't remember if this one does or not...) Hope this helps!
10:10 AM PST Sunday June 4th 2023 Pasadena, CA Potensic SE -vs- EXOCinemaster Aside the price difference, flight time and weight differnce If you were hiking the California Coastal Trail from Monterey Bay to Malibu making a documentry/resource presentation which drone would you choose. Albeit I am not trying to win a grammy for best cinematography I am struggling with the decision which drone to carry in my pack for 300 miles 😳
There's a good reason for each so hopefully this helps... Rate these, the one with 2 or more is your winner: 1) In my experience, the wind never stops in Monterey, and if this is the highest concern, have to go with the Cinemaster. 2) If carrying weight is your concern, have to go with the ATOM SE. 3) If only downward shots (no horizon in shot for reference) than the ATOM SE, or if the horizon being level is key in shots, then Cinemaster. Note the Cinemaster may need a bit of color grading as it is a bit saturated, where the ATOM SE is pretty good as is. Let me know waht you decide! 🤙
Purchased the Potensic Atom SE last month and really like it. Excellent beginner drone, with high quality video. It's also easy to use, flies great, and does not seem to have any glitches so far. Can fly it a good distance away and maintains a strong signal. Remote is comfortable to use, and it will accommodate an iPhone with the case on. The wire that connects the remote to your phone seems to be of decent quality, unlike some more expensive mini drones, where you could even lose connection signal from the RC to the drone just because of defective, cheap wires. That's scary. Not the case here so far. Would recommend the Potensic Atom SE, but I wish they would come out with the new version with a 3 axis gimbal, as the tilted horizon footage can be annoying. It's the only problem I see with this drone.
The SE is a great flier and indeed, it has been a long time to come up with the 3-axis gimbal version. BUT, I have the 3-axis version in my hand right now. Flew it the first time this morning. All I can say is they knocked it out of the park... Vid coming soon...
Oh wow, cool. Will have to see if I can purchase one soon. Also called ATOM? Under 250 grams? What other improvements has Potensic made on their new edition? Is the camera any better? Thanks for the insight, and keep up the great work on youtube. @@AlienDrones
@esoxenvy3112 Yes, called ATOM (no SE), 249g, there's a lot of improvements like multiple quick-shots (and they actually work) including active track, even better GPS stability, removed the height ceiling limitation and more... The camera is a Sony sensor and is the same but they increased the bitrate so the video looks even better. Maybe they will add a larger sensor someday, call it the ATOM 2 Pro, lol. Flew it through 6 batteries today, all I can say is so far it is impressive. Still have to analyze the footage for anything funky, but initial views look really dandy... 🤙 Thanks for watching, I'll do my best!
@@esoxenvy3112 Atom 4K - there's on on its way to me now, should have it before next weekend. :) It'll be my first drone. Technically my second; the DJI Mini 2 SE brand new never got off the ground so I sent it back.
Thank you for a really great video. I bought this drone as a quality not too expensive drone to learn on. I am convinced I made the right choice before operating my more expensive drone, I am also waiting for the DJI ban emir to be resolved so I can purchase the Mini Pro 4. My other drone is called Drone Clone limitless 5. I will be practicing on this one before operating that much heavier drone. Have you ever heard of my bigger drone. Thank you again.
The lack of the gimbal is the only major drawback to this model of ATOM, but it's much more than $100 cheaper, make sure you are comparing like packages of the two. The Gimbal version of the ATOM is here too if you haven't seen it: ua-cam.com/video/3Q409z0Evv4/v-deo.htmlsi=MkY0FHmRmKP2CD4K
@@AlienDrones Thought I should let you know I ordered the 4K on October 4, and it started its trip out of NJ. Currently in PA, making its way to me in WA. So apparently they have US stock now and that tells me they may soon be on Amazon. Your videos are really good, I know it's not as simple to make a decent video as it is to watch one! So thanks for all you do for this hobby.
hey great video just curious when you lost signal and it said return to home, did you have any control of it or did it just start flying back on its own because i want to use this to get footage of my boat and i definitely don't want it to start returning home when im moving
When it loses connection, after a delay it will return to the launch point. It did reconnect after it started back and I could control it though, so you could intervene if needed. Not sure, but there may be an option of having it return to the remote, not the launch location. I fly too many drones to remember exactly, but might want to look into this in your situation.
Is that all there was, 2 reviewers? Wow, I'm flattered! Not using the DJI mic for the next new ATOM "pro" review (comings soon), a different and slightly better lav mic is now in my possession, review for both coming soon! Bought that DJI with my own cold hard cash, including all the accessories, case and lav mics, it does a pretty decent job, but trying something new and if it turns out as good as my first impressions will probably keep the DJI for a backup...
I’m so glad I came across your channel. Love your reviews which helps a noob like me with drones. I am trying out for drone to see if it will be perfect for videos on my channel. Else I will return and get the new Atom 3 axis gimbal. Keep the good work!!!
@@AlienDrones I hate that tree. This is my first drone so I have learned “hard way” I have more to learn. If this had not happened was toying with returning for Atom 3 Gimbal but for what I do in my channel the 4K is excellent for getting different angles of retail structures. But… I was a kid for awhile while it lasted :)
Great video!! I just got mine and was wondering if you can use a android tablet to like the Lenovo m8 or the Samsung A7 lite.? Both run on Android and both have GPS. I don’t know what would happen if I got a call or text while I’m flying. Should my phone be in airplane mode also? Thank you in advance.
Thank you! 🙏 Absolutely, I always run in airplane mode. It helps with disconnects, range and overall app stability... and distractions! The Atom SE has been a great little flier for me. 🤙
Thank you for your nice and highly informative vid. Where I live, this drone costs only 30 € less than a DJI mini 2 SE. What would be your recommendation?
I know this is old but I bought a Mini 2 SE and it never flew, brand new from the box. I sent it back and order the Atom 4K which, for the drone only kit (not fly more) the price was about US$30 less than the Mini 2 SE. The fly more kit which is really nice is US$399 and that's what I went with. It's making its way across the country as I type :)
Hello; I just subscribed; enjoyed your review. I am interested in a 249gr drone with a range of about 600-700yards, (not just wifi---live out in country). Do you think the new one coming out with gimbals will also be under 249gr? How does the Holy stone 175D compare to this one. Do both companies have good support? Thankyou!
Hello! I've not had any issues with the Samsung S20, as long as the WiFi connects with the 2.4G not sure what else to try. The easy thing would be to try a different phone (borrow one from someone else if you have to) and also try a different cable (longer is okay just to test it). If those don't work try Potensic tech support and see if they can help. Sometimes you can get one that fails, it happens... Talk to support, and keep us updated here... Good luck!
Thanks for the truthful review 😁 i just ordered one 😉 was also looking at the bwine b7gb2. It is a bit more but i saw a guy sail this thing like a mile out there🤯 and a great gimbel camera. Only thing is it doesn't fold. That's fine with me 😁
Question: How do you go above the 120m altitude limit set by the app? I am thinking I am within FAA Rules providing an exception when the pilot in closer than 120m to a structue or feature that is taller than 120m and allowed to fly 120m higher than that feature? Thank you in advance.
Hello! Just for clarification, there is no exception for flying above 400' AGL for any reason if you are flying as a recreational pilot, you have to be 107 certified. That being said, most of the beginner drones do not allow the height limit to be adjusted above 400'., including this one Once you get to more professional types (read more $) then many times it can be adjusted higher. Hope this helps! Good Flying! 🤙
For the most part yes, but the "issues" are likely shorter flight range, and this is really with all drones. Most of the time I get about 25% of the rated range in "normal" areas that I fly. In really bad areas (sitting next to a radio tower and under power lines) it might even cause loss of control signal sporadically, so watch out for those types of situations...
So what size and brand SD card would you recommend for this drone ? It just went back on sale for a lighting deal and with your coupon code 234.00 so pulled the trigger
I always use this type of card, sometimes a bit bigger or smaller depending on the application, but the 64G should be just fine for this drone: amzn.to/3GW9WFe . If you want a bigger one (maybe you want to use it somewhere else too), I sometimes go to 128G, but again, the 64G will be more than plenty and save a couple of $: amzn.to/3XJNmqb . These will give you the speed and ruggedness you need for drone use. 🤙
Hmmm, I don't think normal clouds will affect range (unless it is very humid/foggy, then the moisture in the air could shorten the signal considerably). It is more about things that will block the signal (like trees, the water in them absorbs the signal) or RF interference in the area (towers, cell phones, radio stations, commercial WiFi interference, etc.) or even the ground material (if the soil has a lot of Iron in it). One thing you can do is MAKE SURE your device is in airplane mode. Do not have your cell phone signal on at all. Also, make sure you are not creating any RF (like the mic I had on in this video). Make sure your antennas are extended and pointing properly towards the drone. Lastly, these things are mass produced so some could be weaker or stronger than others. How far of range did you get?
That's odd, seems like an error for sure. The camera shouldn't drift by itself. Wonder if it has something to do with the EIS trying to adjust or if it is physically moving...
@@AlienDrones there has been discussion about the speed and method of the electronic shuttering of a digital camera ... if the leading edge of a camera shutters first, then it's possible the front/top of a photo is ever so slightly more "crisp", than the trailing.
I like the idea behind the controller design here. Reminds me of my Razor Keshi that I use for cloud gaming Xbox games on my iPhone. This seems like a Nice competition for the DJI mini SE though I think the SE is still better I’d just personally like to see some more competition for DJI I think competition is good for us all!
@@Dean5629 yeah same concept!!! And probably a little more accurate. But having used both and a few drone controllers I couldn’t figure out why they hadn’t been doing it like this to begin with. Its just a nicer more compact design imo.
Overall it seems like a decent drone for the price. Thankx again for all the info. Love all your video's and info. 3 axes gimble would be a improvement
I still prefer the DJI mini 2 se even though it's double the cost I feel it's softwear and quality beats it especially for beginners and DJI OS can't be beat with a 10km range...
I just got this drone for $160 bucks. I think for my first drone it will do what I need it to. I’m a video editor so I can make things look crisp in my edits. Went with this before I upgrade to a more expensive drone.
@@AlienDrones got 2 batteries with it also! All for the $160.. pretty stoked. I plan on doing more after this one so your reviews will come in handy. Working on my part 107 also, be testing end of year.
Can you next time please determine if the follow-me is 'string' type or 'compass? It is so important. To clarify, with 'string' type it will slide to the side eventually and only follow from behind. While with 'compass' type is will stay north south east west of you. Which means you can have it fly in front or next to you and see what it is doing. So if you test the follow-me you position it next to you and if it doesn't yaw but just flies sideways, then that is 'compass' type. Notice that some drones will have 'compass' type but also yaw. And some drones with 'compass' type don't. Then it is important you can use the sticks while in follow-me mode so you can set and change height and distance. It should immediately follow again and no go out of follow-me mode until you cancel it. Also a vital feature if you want to use follow-me in real life is the option to update home-point! You do not having to race back to where it took off before a truck runs it over. Ideally it flies towards you and hoovers until it very slowly comes down giving you all the time to take over control. My cheap LYZRC L109 Pro for example automatically updates home-point and flies towards you, or to where you stopped follow-me when pressing the return-to-home button, and that is just excellent. An option in the app would be even better. But programmers cost money so unfortunately those apps are mostly very (too) basic. Next. I know a lot of you drone reviewers say the active-track on a DJI Mini 3 or Air or Mavic is so much better and keeps you in the frame, and that you need sensors etc. And it's not that I am against active-track! On the Mini 3 it is unbelievable. But..... people who have actually had drones on a bike trip will tell you that most of the time GPS follow-me works better for them. It is easier to get the landscape in view. You get better more stable shots. Plus of course you can go a bit faster as it won't optically lose you. I think it is ridiculous DJI cripples their drones by not adding GPS follow-me as well. It probably has to do with the obstacle avoidance not working in GPS follow-me mode and their warranty policy. for that price a drone should have both. Now you lose warranty if you use Litchi or Maven or Dronelink, and a reason why I didn't buy a DJI just yet. As I am convinced the Chinese could make a true tracking drone for bikers and hikers for less money. Everything is already there on cheap drones. All they have to do is put it in one package instead of trying to beat DJI on pure video quality or obstacle avoidance. If the drone is nice and small, crash resistant, and programmed right, and for a budget, I'm sure many people will want one. The fact this Potensic doesn't have a fragile gimbal makes it much easier to carry in your pocket or bike bag. It is actually the strong point! So what if the horizon tilts a bit?? Thanks!
Thanks for the info! FYI, Skydio 2+ does an image track follow then automatically switches to GPS follow if the image is lost behind something or in the shadows. You can also dynamically adjust if it follows from the side, rear, front or any direction at any time. If decent follow is important I haven't used another drone that comes close to the accuracy, robustness and versatility of the S2+. I agree that the horizon tilt isn't a deal breaker for me, just have to keep it in mind and work around it, and can always adjust it out in post too...
@@AlienDrones I don't have the money for a Skydio 2. It's also still too big, doesn't fold, and too loud to be really usable on a bike trail with people around. Another thing I noticed is that the video is often like watching ping-pong. Although you probably can make a more relaxed video if you know how. Fantastic piece of technology. Not sure if it combines optical with GPS to find the shortest way? Or that it only switches to GPS if the object is lost visually? Would I want one? Yes. But is it the drone I have in mind? No. A Tello with GPS and small dedicated WiFi controller (and SD card) would be great. One you can fly while riding through a town without people noticing. Sometimes I fly it manually while riding with the bluetooth controller. It's so small and safe, I should use it more often. The 720P stabilized video is enough for more. But my silly L109 Pro does a good job. So does my F11 4k. Unfortunately the F11 only has a return-to-home. If RTH kicks in unexpectedly it's panic! I can't do a u-turn that easily with my solar trike. And racing back isn't fun either. While the L109 Pro updates homepoint and geo-fence exactly as it should do. Any drone without a return-to-controller option is basically useless on a bike trip. My Fimi A3 is the best GPS follow-me drone ever produced. Super accurate and responsive. If I move 1mm it moves. It's a big drone. But the main problem is the damn batteries. I tried the battery hack, but it only flies for 4 minutes. I then ordered a new 'original' battery but result was the same. Fimi should have made the Fimi A3 Mini, not the X8 Mini. The controller with built-in screen and GPS (of course) is what makes it as much better follow-me drone compared to the X8. I could go on for an hour. Sorry about the long reply. I'm just trying to 'educate' you. Yes you know a lot more about drones, especially the more expensive models. But drone reviewers are almost always the type who stand in one spot and look at pure video quality. Soon you hop on a bike and try to get a handful of drone shots every day things start to look very different. The drone is too big to put in a bag next to you. Or too big and intruding. Or it takes an hour to set it up so you don't bother and ride on. Or the tracking feature just doesn't work as you had hoped. A beautiful Mavic 3 can be crap in real life. While with a $50 toy you control manually you can shoot selfies in the middle of Paris and nobody cares. And that is why Potensic should try make a GPS Tello or something. Something DJI does not have. Instead of putting on a 3-axis gimbal and be more expensive then a DJI Mini. That makes no sense.
"I think it is ridiculous DJI cripples their drones by not adding GPS follow-me as well." For that to work, the controller requires GPS (as well as the drone). Smarphones have GPS, iPad has GPS, the controller evidently does not. That's fine with me; Remote ID knows the drone launch position but not MY position. Remote controllers that use a smartphone can tap the phone's GPS receiver.
@@thomasmaughan4798 DJI's Smart controller has GPS. So does my Fimi A3 controller. The follow-me of the Fimi A3 is super accurate and responsive. Why the built-in GPS is more accurate than a phone I don't know. Anyway, there is no excuse for DJI not to offer follow-me as well as active-track. It's just stupid. As for Remote ID. I won't use it. Not now. Not ever. What's next? Must wear an astronaut suit when roller skating?
@@driewiel "Why the built-in GPS is more accurate than a phone I don't know. " DJI drones use multiple "GNSS" (global navigation satellite systems) for exceptional precision. Some phones don't have GPS per se, but merely triangulate on cell towers. But I am pretty sure the common iPhone and Android phones have actual GPS. It can eat a LOT of battery so it is common to turn off "precise" GPS which actually means turn off GPS entirely and "fake it" with cell tower triangulation.
Hey I’ve been starting to fly little cheep shene drones and honestly I got really into in it so I’ve been wanting something better and with an actual working camera do you think for a starter drone should I get this or save up for a dji??
Depends what is important to you. This has a decent camera, 4k, very good gimbal, nice and stable. DJI does a good job too, some models have bigger cameras, better low light capability and obstacle avoidance. If you need (or want) that kind of camera or functionality upgrade and that is worth $900- $1500 ish (or $3000 with even better camera or even thermal) vs. $400, then you'll get even better equipment for the extra price. It's all about matching the product to your needs. In this category, this model is a very good value but only you know if it meets your needs or not. Hope this helps!
@@AlienDrones this helps a lot I think I’ll stick with the Potensic because this will help me get me started with camera work and getting all types of cool shots and pictures just ordered it comes Friday super excited
I just got the flymore pkg for 200 as a black friday deal on prime with a coupon, I've had several drones by now and I feel like this is worth 200 dollars even for someone who is not a beginner.
Just a thought, if you're not in a hurry may want to wait just a _little bit more_ as the 3-axis version may be available soon. Might be nice to add one more option to the list. 👽
The 4G/5G has to do with the cellular and this is not needed by the drone. The communication is taken care of by the remote/drone and the connection to the remote is done with a cable.
I believe it switches back and forth from opti to GPS, and back as needed based on the GPS strength. If I had GPS and then it loses signal, it flips into opti to maintain stability, and vise versa. Not aware that it can be done with a switch.
@@AlienDrones Thank you for your response. The drone I have never goes into gps mode and is always in Opti. We show many satellites. Consistently between 6 and 15.
Ditto upon everything basically that you just said.
Got mine a week ago, and I'm really loving it so far.
When is 3 axis one coming out?
@@lmanbaseball8798 I checked in with Potensic and they said they delayed the release until June, 2023.
Why didn't you just buy a second hand mini?
Thanks for sharing!
Good catch on the 2.4 Ghz interference. Other UA-cam reviewers tried to explain away the short range they were encountering.
Thanks!
2.4 is longer range
We have more options for this price point, such as the DJI MINI 2 SE and the FIMI X8 MINI V2.
The DJI Mini2 SE for the comparable package is about twice the cost and the FIMI is about 50% higher, so though they are decent fliers it's not the same price point.
Exactly. So many people post this incorrect comment. @@AlienDrones
You do realize he did this review a year ago and its on sale on amazon for $230?@dylanewelch
I sit corrected; but it has been a long time "Each frame contains a part of the almanac (in subframes 4 and 5) and the complete almanac is transmitted by each satellite in 25 frames total (requiring 12.5 minutes"
So the Almanac not the ephemeris, is updated in 12.5 minutes.
"An ephemeris is valid for only four hours; an almanac is valid with little dilution of precision for up to two weeks."
At any rate, a drone rapidly resolves its initial position estimate within 30 seconds or so of startup.
It's unlike a drone without a 3-axis gimbal, and they sell it for so much.
I'm trying to decide between this the Walkera and Cfly Faith... I believe the Walkera has a gimbal...what do you think? Any recommendations?
This drone is amazing gimbal or not you can shoot professional footage with it
@@benitomoshpito6705No you can't. And that's not a problem. This is the perfect prepper drone. You can watch your property or other areas perfectly. The range is enough and the drone itself is way sturdier than any DJI mini. Because of the gimbal weight loss. The weight is used in the housing.
Perfect drone for surveillance
Agree it is surprisingly stable without gimbals. Did see some jello effect when you were directly over the roadway looking straight down.
Indeed, the video is not perfect for sure, but with no gimbal it's a good first attempt...

3 questions.
1- how to unlock the flying range the way you did? Mine doesn’t fly that far.
2- how to switch the footage from landscape to portrait?
3- how to record videos straight on the app and not in the SD card?
@1 - settings in app. Turn off beginners mode. Oh, its been over a year
@@osirismpg7393im here too 😂
I actually like this drone. Yes, it's got those slight issues that do need improvement but so far I've got value for my money. And the fact that it doesn't record audio saves alot on deleting audio during post production.
It's a good little flyer for sure!

But all is good
Thank you
I enjoyed and benefited from your review. I also appreciated how you followed up on your troubled feelings about the range test to determine that your mic was the culprit foiling it.

I got it for Christmas and it’s great it’s very stable it hasn’t drifted off in the wind or glitched and I think top 3 best beginner drone👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
It's a good flyer for sure!
Thanks for the kind words, glad you enjoy the vids! Have fun! 🤙🤙
Thanks! Nope, no geofencing. 🤙
Just a nice low price drone gets the job done
And just for fun grab some cheap VR goggles stick your phone in there put the drone and FPV mode and get a little taste of FPV of course it’s not even close but it’s fun

I've never thought of the tilt to the horizon a detriment. That's what you see on a motorcycle and an airplane. What's the big deal.
My first drone and I love it.
It's a great little flyer for sure!
Thanks! The mini 2 SE is a great flyer for sure...
Potensic has just announced for the new product launch date.. Sep 15th 🎉🎉.. Excited to see something brilliant 😉
Excited as well! Fingers crossed that it blows us away! 🙏🙏
I have 2 & they work great, I don't give a flip about the horizon being a few degrees off, as a pilot I expect that.
That's where these fit for sure. If the horizon isn't critical these are one hell of a value...
I learned to be wary of the position when it gets behind me and not to go the wrong direction , lol. This defintely takes some practice just floating around for a while and making small movements before going full throttle and zipping around . I don’t think it’s wise to operate one of these as a noob where there’s a lot of obstructions .
It's zippy, have to be careful for sure!
Would recommend the DJI Mini SE or the Potensic Atom SE for a beginner in a drone?
@@AlienDrones Thank you for answering me so quickly I think I have my thinks back the dji mini se seems more interesting to me
I just bought one of these on EBay from the factory, they said these are refurbished returns, The 2 battery Fly More Combo, $157 (they accepted my offer), free shipping. I choose this because my current drone, MJX Bugs 2SE, needs RID!
I'm always nervous with "refurbished" models, but that's just me. I've seen WAY too many drone crashes...
My range has been good but I guess I need to check it with and without my bluetooth hearing aides.
Great video. I'm impressed how the EIS works. My son is bugging me about him wanting a drone. That 3axis appears. I'll have to get him one. Thanks again. An Keep On Flying
Indeed, it does a good job. The 3-axis one is coming soon, just talked with Potensic yesterday so stay tuned...
Great video! I just purchased the Potensic Atom Se and used your discount. I really excited about getting it.
Thanks! It's a dandy little flier, one of the best "values" out there IMHO... Good Flying! 🤙
What can be the problem?thank you
Did you get the Home with the package? I just got this but there was no Home.
Great video! How does the Atom SE handle wind? I could imagine the video being kind of shaky but will it fly in like 10- 14 mph winds?
It has a class 5 rating which is as good as it gets
Thanks for the amazing and detailed review. I really enjoyed it so much.. I am wondering how the 3-axis gimbal version will be? I am expecting to be fantastic.... Actually I was going to get this model.. Then I thought to wait a little bit to get the next model.. But I talked to Potensic support team, they didn't mention release date for the newer version. They said "And our ATOM SE drone with a gimbals camera will be launched in this year,"... So I think we have to wait and see.. Hope its price will be a reasonable one.. Anyway, thanks again and keep it up
Thanks! Potensic keeps saying "soon" for the 3-axis gimbal, hop that means that it will be perfection when it finally comes out! 🤞
@@AlienDrones.. Ya I hope so...
I was checking similar drones like Potesnic atome se, I came across "Fimi X8 Mini Version 2".. I want to hear your thoughts about this..And If you can do a review, it will be awesome ;)
The Atom 4K has the 3-axis gimbal and is selling now. I ordered the fly more for $399 - the drone kit is $299 so pretty reasonable.
@@chipsawdust5816 ya it is an awesome deal 👍
Hey, great review. I'm loving mine so far. Quick question Do you know what's the return home altitud? Can it be modified to be higher due to obstacles?
Pretty sure there's a setting in the app to set the RTH height.
Love mine,go out over a mile no problem. Got the atom too....Amazing!
Nice to see a new video from you and I think your review of his new unit was very well done.
Thanks for sharing!
Thanks very much. Just found a lightening deal on Amazon for $50 off and it also took your coupon code for a total of $65 off the $299. I am in similar climate so likely won't be flying it until spring!!
Nice! You're more patient than I if you can wait until spring! 😎
Excellent video. What overall grade would tou give the drone ("F" being the lowest and "A+" the highest)?
Good job, bro, I like u did not curse the drone 4 distance problem. U thought of reasons what could be happening.
Thanks! I try and think outside the box... 🤙🤙
Sorry if this was overlooked, however what was the battery life like? Take care and "thank you" for posting this review!
No worries, and yes you overlooked it! It was 25 minutes actual flight time. ua-cam.com/video/TPthga9ZgtE/v-deo.html Thanks for watching! 🤙

3:25 we must have gotten a bad unit. Toilet bowl upon takeoff, even after calibrating the compass.

Potensic SE -vs- EXOCinemaster
Aside the price difference, flight time and weight differnce
If you were hiking the California Coastal Trail from Monterey Bay to Malibu making a documentry/resource presentation which drone would you choose.

Excellent review. I'm debating between the Dji se or this one and I'm leaning this way since it's 100 cheaper and ticks all my boxes.

Hi. How far have you fly it? Did it lost signal and could not return? Can you see in a map of picture where you're and where is the drone?
Hello, the return to home does work well if it loses connection. 👍
Can I do 360 tricks such as flips? Either manually, on the remote or on the app?
I did not see any such function...
Great review thanks, got one in the UK and happy with it (full gimble ver)

hey great video just curious when you lost signal and it said return to home, did you have any control of it or did it just start flying back on its own because i want to use this to get footage of my boat and i definitely don't want it to start returning home when im moving
When it loses connection, after a delay it will return to the launch point. It did reconnect after it started back and I could control it though, so you could intervene if needed. Not sure, but there may be an option of having it return to the remote, not the launch location. I fly too many drones to remember exactly, but might want to look into this in your situation.
@@AlienDrones okay thanks appreciate it
Strange that the two reviewers of this drone were *also* coincidentally using the DJI remote microphone.

I know this is old but I bought a Mini 2 SE and it never flew, brand new from the box. I sent it back and order the Atom 4K which, for the drone only kit (not fly more) the price was about US$30 less than the Mini 2 SE. Hello! I've not had any issues with the Samsung S20, as long as the WiFi connects with the 2.4G not sure what else to try. The easy thing would be to try a different phone (borrow one from someone else if you have to) and also try a different cable (longer is okay just to test it).
@@AlienDrones Working 💪 for 107. Tooo much potential for Fantastic fun not too get it. Thanks for sharing 👍 😊
So does this mean if we fly in an area with a lot of 2.4ghz wifi signals we're gonna have issues?
For the most part yes, but the "issues" are likely shorter flight range, and this is really with all drones. Most of the time I get about 25% of the rated range in "normal" areas that I fly. In really bad areas (sitting next to a radio tower and under power lines) it might even cause loss of control signal sporadically, so watch out for those types of situations...
my smartphone is a LG K9 with android v7.1.2 and the aplicattion goes correct but the images of the cam dont appear
I have the same problem. Using pixel 6 pro I get no video and can't take pictures or record video. Tried two SD cards. Could you solve your problem?
Hello. I notice the ATOM has the gimbal. Will it work with the iPhone 6s?
Might want to check with Potensic. All apps/phones have issues when phones are different vintages...
I have the exact same drone. my video recording was static, choppy. If anyone kwon the issue, please tell me. Thank You1
is it possible that cloudy weather gave me a rather limitted range ?
im totally new to drones and got the same one
How far of range did you get?
aha!
airplane mode , gotte try that one
thanks mate

MY CAMERA keeps creeping up from Nadir(straight down), sometimes to about 15-20 degrees ... maybe some sort of flaw?

I was thinking it looks like a backbone playstation edition.
@@Dean5629 yeah same concept!!! And probably a little more accurate. But having used both and a few drone controllers I couldn’t figure out why they hadn’t been doing it like this to begin with. Its just a nicer more compact design imo.
They copied the fimi x8 mini design directly.

"I think it is ridiculous DJI cripples their drones by not adding GPS follow-me as well."
For that to work, the controller requires GPS (as well as the drone).
DJI drones use multiple "GNSS" (global navigation satellite systems) for exceptional precision.
Can the Potensic ATOM SE GPS Drone do 360°flips?
I don't believe so. Those types of moves are usually reserved for toy models without GPS.
@@Caldo_0 🤙 It's a good flyer, enjoy!
I already bought Mini 2 SE no regrets anyway, but I'll keep an eye on this brand for future reference .
The Mini 2 SE is a decent drone for sure, it will treat you well...
I just got the flymore pkg for 200 as a black friday deal on prime with a coupon, I've had several drones by now and I feel like this is worth 200 dollars even for someone who is not a beginner.
Nice! Thanks for sharing! It's a really good flyer, Potensic has really stepped it up with some good quality... 🤙
Im at a toss up between this, the Walkera t210 and the Cfly Faith. Anyone have any suggestions??
Just a thought, if you're not in a hurry may want to wait just a _little bit more_ as the 3-axis version may be available soon. Might be nice to add one more option to the list. 👽
@@AlienDronesThank you for the reply I will wait hopefully they add it before my 6 month trip to Philippines leaving Nov 13 👍👍👍😁😁😁
@@truckergilligangilligan5877 nice!
Will this work with a 4G I phone
I seen where they were connected with a 5G phone and was not sure if it will work with my I phone 7
The 4G/5G has to do with the cellular and this is not needed by the drone. The communication is taken care of by the remote/drone and the connection to the remote is done with a cable.
Thanks for the info
Thank you. This was helpful. I have one ordered. .
Yup, second reviewer who encountered the DJI mic issue. Those things are important to know about.
Pretty sure I'm the originator... 🤙
大変安定性が良いですね。カメラの角度変更は送信機で操作できますか?お願いします!
はい、コントローラーからカメラの角度を移動できます 🤙
@@AlienDrones ありがとうございます。早速購入したいと思います。これからもよろしくお願いします。
I am not able to get the mode out of OPTI. How do you turn on the GPS mode?
I believe it switches back and forth from opti to GPS, and back as needed based on the GPS strength. If I had GPS and then it loses signal, it flips into opti to maintain stability, and vise versa. Not aware that it can be done with a switch.
@@AlienDrones Thank you for your response. The drone I have never goes into gps mode and is always in Opti. We show many satellites. Consistently between 6 and 15.
@@corysessler3044 Sounds like it's broken. Reach out to support, We've heard they are responsive
