The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. I remember sitting with my parents the night he sang that. Both of them had tears in their eyes. And I, as a teen learned for the first time. How much the word Love really meant. In fact. I learned the words, and still remember them today...sixty years later. Ed Ames was a great singer.

This was my parents’ song. They were married 67 years. Dad passed away in 2017 at age 93 and we lost Mom last year (2023), also at age 93. I’m in my late 60s and I will miss my folks until the day I draw my last breath.
I get tears in my eyes every time I hear Ed Ames sing this beautiful song, especially the line:
“In only a moment we both will be old, we won’t even notice the world turning cold, and so in this moment with sunlight above, my cup runneth over with love.” Not only does it make me think of my folks, it reminds me of how quickly the time has flown by for my husband and I, how quickly our boys grew into men. It reminds me to appreciate each day and to try not to get bogged down by the harshness of the world. To be thoughtful and kind, especially to one another. ❤️

Guess you can take solace in knowing that they both lived to 93. I did not know about the Ames brothers but I do remember my mother singing

@@smilinmoo on a lighter note. I remember he was on Johnny Carson while he was on the TV show playing a Native American. He brought a Tomahawk. There was a poster of a man a few feet away & Ed was supposed to fling the Tomahawk to hit him dead in the heart. It hit the poster right between the crotch area & there it was. To which Johnny said to Ed “ I didn’t know you were a Jewish Rabbi”.

Being a parent is tough... tough on every aspect of what you thought was all the parts that make up you. This song and this singer invoke vivid memories of watching over the children as they slept. Despite the tough day that day their nightime rooms would fill with warmth, grace and love in abundance... "flowing over"; not from any part of me but from them and the wonderful wonder they imparted every hour of every day... awake or asleep. To this day this song fosters such blessed joy.

As a young boy, probably about 10 years old, while walkin though a friend house, I witnessed his divorced nmother, and her new boyfriend (future husband) sitting on a counch, while this song was playing on their vintage RCA stereo. HIs mother (who I had a crush on, very pretty) had her head on his sholuder, one leg drapped over one of his, and holding hands. The was first vision of innocent intimacy I've ever winessed. Everytime I heard this, I go back in time 50 years.
