    Nice job.👍👍👍 I love what you did with loading up the back of the truck. Classic. 👍 And just a side note , the Ralph Foster museum has the original TV truck.. It's the last and only original.

    Beautiful work! A little late I’m sure but, there were Beverly Hillbillies comics back in the 60s that occasionally had decent reference pics of the car on the covers. Those too were all over the place regarding disappearing/reappearing details.

    Be careful of the weight distribution of the kit, you don't want to find yourself with a tail sitter as plane modelers say. You might have to put some weights disgusted as items in front, I hope this helps you.

    That detail on the steering wheel is the spark retarder. That was a manual control on early vehicles before it was replaced with spring and vacuum systems on the distributor. Definitely part of the family “jalopy”, not the hot rod.

    Looks really good Lou! Clear heat shrink tubing probably would have worked. Bob Smith Super-Gold+ cyanoacrylate doesn’t frost clear parts.

    Thanks so much for the video. I've always loved the Beverly Hillibillie's car and drooled over the old models I've seen at shows, and yet I would have totally missed the fact that this "Granny Rod" kit can indeed be built as the car show. Also appreciate all the warnings and modification tips. I'll be keeping an eye out for it now (warts and all).

    Lou, I have to commend You on stepping out of your comfort zone to deal with a plastic car kit! Thank You! I really like what You have done with the kit so far. You have dealt with everything I had done on paper in getting ready for my own build of this kit, well, outside of the 3D printed pieces. I am scratch building most of those parts in balsa wood and plastic. I really like Your dry brushing technique. Looking forward to the final product!! Thank You again for sharing with Us here in tubeland! Take Care, Be Safe, God Bless. Later

    I like this new Lou-- calmer, less frantic... a mellow modeler... Just as thoughtful and murderous toward his humble air compressor...
    I cannot think of how or why I'd ever put this kit together-- but i now have a terrific roadmap to do so! Looking good, beat it up more!

    Hi Lou, a fun build for the New Year it reminds me of the time's I used to tease my late mother-in-law about tying her rocker to the top of the station wagon. This usually got me a wallop from her with her handbag much too the amusement of the kids. Thanks for the smile.

    The lever on the steering wheel is the throttle. The old trucks didn't have a gas pedal back then.

    Cool project and I love the idea of being able to print your own accessories to make the vehicle your own; kind of like how tank modelers love to cover their vehicles with tarps and stuff. And you can really go to town with weathering and fading of the paint and rust.

  • @stevewagner2152

    I have been building and studying this vehicle for years. The actual TV Series car was base on a 1931 Oldsmobile touring car purchase from Fontana feed and Farm Supply in souther cal. To make it accurate you should remove the backside of the body/cab as this is where the back of the touring car was removed. The front tip of the left front fender shoul be thinned an bent up slightly to represent damage. The biggest changes they made from the first episodes was the removal of the spare tire and windshield frame. Make Granny’s bench removable as the took it off in some episodes. It’s true that it’s a tail dragged unless you add a shake to the rear springs. However this is correct when you are loading up the truck to head to Beverly.😅. Finally, when you attach the rear stakes, the bottom of the lower horizontal board should rest on top of the flatbed. This is not clear in the instructions. One more Easter Egg: the Fontana seed logo was scrapped off the doors with the remnant still visible.

    • @aztekdummy
      @aztekdummy  8 місяців тому

      Thanks for your insights. So it was true that the lower sides of the hood weren't there?

    • @stevewagner2152
      @stevewagner2152 8 місяців тому

      @@aztekdummy Correct. The hood on the actual car was bowed out at the bottom and did not fit flush with the grill or cowl either. This kit was first released in 1968 and actually goes together decently. Granny’ hot Rod was built from a second 1921 Olds and appeared in a 7th season episode. There are many references to both cars online as Barris was involved with both of them.

  • @Mu-podcast

    Don't forget to add Granny's double-barrel shotgun.
    I'm glad you made the rocking chair. I'm surprised that it's not there given that's one of the most identifiable features of that car.
    If you are looking for other items, how about a washboard to go with the tub?
    The Clampett truck was kind of a prototype of the Mad Max vehicle, minus the armor.
    For the chrome parts, did you mat coat them? I've found that a flat coat makes the chrome look a lot better in scale without having to strip the chrome and repaint it. It also holds any weathering that way too.
    This kit makes me think of another jalopy I'd love to see a model of... SchlepCar from Wonder Bug. While I'd love to have a lovely metallic red WB, I think it would be more fun to build SchlepCar with all his rust and damage.

    • @aztekdummy

    You will want to remove the "chrome" on some of those parts. Under the chrome is a shinny clear coat, it too needs to be removed as neither take paint very well.
    I let the parts soak overnight in one of the "super cleaners" like Purple Power or Castrol followed by a soaking in clean water to remove the cleaner!

    • @aztekdummy
      @aztekdummy  7 місяців тому

      yes, i've stripped chrome before. On this build the only chrome parts i used were the front bumper, the headlight rims and the radiator grill surround. Oh, and the hurricane lamps.

  • @doctordetroit1217
    @doctordetroit1217 8 місяців тому

    Looking at photos online there is one which shows the hot rod from the radiator to just behind Jethro, where it is still the old truck, so potentially you could make three different versions from this kit, pity they didn't include figures. All the best for the new year!

    Part Numbers: Lou, you've got it easy. I'm 3 weeks into a paper Grogu. Decided to paint him. Decided to just make all 60(?) parts of his skin bits green. Kinda like primer thought I. So, 60 some oddly shaped green parts, no numbers on a one. I'm now doing a 3d jigsaw like a polar bear in a snowstorm (well, a green one...) Yep, added 2 more weeks to the build.

    Fun. Those aren’t part numbers, Lou, they’re the step numbers. And that junk on the steering wheel is to advance and retard the timing. This will be a cool watch. When I think of the Beverly Hillbillies, I can’t help but remember Andrew Dice Clay’s routine about them: “They loaded up that hunk o’ shit they called a truck, and moved to Beverly. Hills, that is.”
