In this tutorial I'll be going over what voicebank & UST types there are, as well as several ways voicebanks can differ. This tutorial is rather theoretic instead of, practical, which might make it kinda boring to listen to ^^; Though, it's really important to know about this stuff, seeing how all of these things mentioned in the video often are spoken of when fellow UTAU users talk to one another.
If you have any questions, feel free to ask me in the comments ^^
Also, for those interested, I take MIDI and UST commissions :D

When ‘soft’ plays my video stopped, I was stunned at how soft it was...
My favorite part of the tutorial is at 3:20!! 😃😃😄😄🤗🤗
duh
My god, thank you for uploading all these tutorials. First off they're the clearest, most high-quality UTAU tutorials I've come across so far, and secondly, you actually explain things like the differences between voicebank types, which is something that is INCREDIBLY difficult to find explanations about anywhere. I seriously had so much trouble figuring out how CVVC works for that exact reason. I wish I'd found your tutorial sooner, it probably would have cleared some things up for me.
But yeah, major points to you for being nice enough to explain these things. Very well done.
Awww no problem ^v^ Not all of them are finished yet, but.. I'll try my best to get them out once I'm a bit less busy ^^
And aww thank you so much ;v; Yeah I figured: "alright, I have to pretend I'm explaining this to someone who's not familiar with vocal synthesizers and doesn't know anything about singing or music". Most tutorials I've come across either use UTAU buzzwords, which are never explained, or they involve way too much rambling (or they're way too fast).
Same here tbh.. Though.. After I got used to using VCCV, CVVC wasn't all that difficult to explain ^^ Just had a bit of trouble wording the explanation of each recording type without using fancy words XD
Awwww no problem at all ^^ I love helping others ^v^/
***** You're very welcome. And exactly. I can't tell you how many tutorials I've given up on watching halfway through because all the rambling and forgetting to explain certain terms left me more confused than when I started. Yours are much more focused and well thought out.
And yeah, I haven't ventured into the realm of VCCV or English vbs in general yet; they look ridiculously complicated. Even your short preview of VCCV in this tutorial was intimidating. One look at all those strange, complicated symbols and I was like "... nope." xD
But yeah, you're doing an amazing job. Keep it up. UTAU noobs will appreciate it.
TheEternalChild7 True yeah... I know the feeling XD I tried watching some tutorials back when I first started UTAU in 2012.. Result: abomination of an UTAU XDD
Thank you >v< I try my best to explain everything as clear as possible ^^ I also slightly script these tutorials, so I know what I have to talk about (and I often re-record lines, cause I mess up my sentence, that's where the editing comes in, most tutorials I've seen are just recorded in one go without any edits :0 )
I highly recommend you check out CZ's English VCCV tutorials, as they're pretty decent tutorials imo (plus she's the developper of the VCCV recording method) ^^ But yeah.. VCCV is by far the most intimidating recording type to work with (as well as to record and oto)
Thank you so much ;v;
TheEternalChild7 j
For those wondering about the types of UTAU voicebanks, remember this simple rule.
V stands for Vowel. Vowels include the letters: a, e, i, o, u. They are all open mouth sounds, closing the gaps between consonants.
C stands for Consonant, which is every other letter in the alphabet. Most, if not all, of these letters, are closed-mouthed.
VCV means there’s a vowel sound, then a consonant sound, and then a vowel sound again.
0:48 was that ruko-senpai

i remember first downloading utau and watching this video and being like "what does this even mean? what is going on? what? why?"

ngl its wild using a tutorial from six years ago. like i really dunno whats changed in utau vs whats constant. this is wild
i know this comment is like a year old, but in case it still helps, utau hasn’t updated in over a decade, so most tutorials made for it will still work
0:38 OMG THOSE VOCALS TYPES THEY'RE SO BEAUTIFUL? WHICH UTAU IS SINGING? CAN I FIND IT ON UA-cam? I'D LOVE TO LISTEN THIS UTAU AND THIS SONG! :D
It's Ruko Yokune ♂ ^^ The song that's sung is Paranoia by Digital Wing ^^
Aaah ! Thanks ! I'm gonna listen to it all day long ! :D *****

It seems that online people say these Voicebank types are mostly used for Japanese, while English Voicebanks use VCCV or other types.
BLESS YOU FOR ALL THESE TUTORIALS! LOVE YOU!
Awww no problem ^v^ I like being able to help out other people, and the current tutorial out there atm are kinda.. Not that great ^^; So I was like: Imma make UTAU tutorials ^v^/ But yeah I hope they're informative and clear enough ^^ If not, feel free to ask me anything ^^
Yeah i can agree with you there ^^; , its very nice of you to make all of these and theyre all so imformative. This is DEFINATELY gonna help me improve aaaaaaa. It's so kind of you to offer extra help! I will do so once i continue rolling ;P
Fellocitti Awww yay I'm happy to hear that >v< Just keep in mind not all of them are finished yet, so.. Sometimes I might refer to vids in some tutorials, that are not out yet.. Cause I still have to record and edit them..
And no problem at all ^^ I just really like being able to help others ^v^ (Muahahaha I shall become the ultimate UTAU sensei =3=/ *shot*)
Lol no problem~, i'll be patient (( you are indeed the ultimate sensei (≧∇≦)/ ))
Darn it Yuunarii, I wanted to learn about UTAU, not sit here jamming to Paranoia being sang as an example, now you got it stuck in my head xD
Hahahahahaha me too!!!!
Just getting into UTAU, this playlist is extremely useful. Thank you!
Um, what's the song you used for the examples of the normal, power and soft vbs? ^^;
Paranoia by DiGiTAL WiNG ^^
It's a cover of Hartmann's Youkai Girl in case you were wondering!
I've been loving these tutorials!! They're organized into categories and aaaaaa thank you for making these ❤️
Awww thank you ^^ I'm glad you like them.
Yep, most UTAU tutorials I've come across tend to be all over the place. So I figured I'd add a bit of structure to my tutorial series ^^

this tutorial is so cuuuute QwQ
I do want to point out that iroiro is a most desirable plugin, but I'm not sure if it is mentioned in the plugins tutorial
also, I thought VCCV has Spanish, German, & other forms now? I know CZ was working on a Japanese 1 too o.o
either way, these videos you are making will help new comers & even people who know how to use UTAU greatly! thank you for making these!
Awww thanks >v< So much tongue twisters in this tutorial.. After recording this tutorial I was like: "Ughhh... CV to VCV CVVVCCV VCVCVVVCCVVCVCCCVVCCVCVVV" *dies*
Hmm.. Never heard of that one before O.o I usually just stick to Lyrics Diphonizer and the AutoCVVC plugin :0
Yeah they kinda do.. But.. They're not really made by CZ.. So.. I don't really count them as like.. Official XD Plus they're not full reclists, just base reclist that you can use to experiment with ^^ (For example I'm currently trying to make a full VCCV Dutch reclist out of one of those base reclists)
Really? O.o I do know that she was planning on shortening her current English reclist, as a lite version.. But.. Thats it XD
Yeah I really enjoy being able to help people ;v; And.. Most tutorials I've seen on UA-cam are rather unorganized, have lots of rambling and are all over the place >_< So I was like: Imma make professional-ish type of tutorials o3o/ I'm trying my best to keep them as short as possible, but not so short that it's difficult to follow.. So people dont have to watch a 30+ min long tutorial video..
+Yuunarii Haha, I know the feeling XD & true, yea, I was thinking them as unofficial, but I never took a look at them (good luck with that Dutch 1! >w
***** Oh, & iroiro works with CV to VCV & vice versa, romaji to hiragana & vice versa, X-sampa stuff & a lot more. Basically a lot of ust changing. Iroirov2 just came out & it looks like it can work with CVVC & EN VCCV I think, but it was all in japanese, aha...it was very cool though. I use iroiro a lot
I only took a look at VCCV Dutch XD Simply because it's my native language, and I've been trying to make my own Dutch reclist for a long time.. So.. This really helps >v< (Thank you ^^ I'll probably continue working on that reclist and voicebank once I've finished all of these tutorials)
Owww I see o3o
Yeah they're usually like.. Half showing stuff, often mentioning terms that newbies are totally unfamiliar with (in my tutorials, I try to write them from the pov of someone who has never touched UTAU before.. So I always try my best to explain the terms I use), and just quickly show what you should do, and then spend the other half rambling, trying to explain things >_<
I learned somewhere that people tend to absorb information better if you give them something to look at.. Instead of just having to stare at a blank screen ^^ Hence why I try my best to illustrate the things I'm talking about ^^ (Even though for this tutorial thats really hard.. As this is mostly just.. Theory stuff XDD)
Aww I dont blame you XD Oto'ing is really difficult to explain to someone who's never touched UTAU before O.o
Ugh.. That reminds me.. I also still have to make an oto tutorial.. For tutorial #6: how to make your own UTAU =3= Which is gonna consist of like.. 4 parts or something... *dies*
SunGuardian524 Oww I'll be sure to check it out in that case ^^ Is there an English UI patch available yet for that plugin, or.. Is it still in Japanese? :0
Otherwise I'll probably just stick to the Lyric Dyphonizer plugin and the AutoCVVC plugin for my plugins tutorial (as well as a few others I often use)
Cause Japanese interface plugins are usually rather tricky to use, especially for beginners ;v;
Hi thanks so much for these tutorials! One thing I need to know is:
How do I use my own UTAU? I made my own voicebank and would love to make my own UTAU songs with it ^^ thank you :) I subbed by the way! It's really helpful
y'all for writing in japanese, you can just change your language to google IME. It worked really well.
Honetly even with all this I'm still so fucking lost. It's so complicated and I don't know how to make Renri work. I have no idea where you type in VC or VCV or CVVC it's just a giant jumbled mess to me.
Yamine renri? She is a vcv Voice Bank~ and you can't type in what voice bank they are, they were made as either VC, VCV, or CVVC! hope that helps.
Thank You! I need this vídeos for my first utau💕 i hope that everything goes well 👀

So Yuu said there is only Monopitch and Multipitch, but there is 5 types of Vocal ranges:
Monopitch
Bipitch
Tripitch
Quadpitch
And Multipitch.
Multi just refers to any bank with more than one pitch

Is it possible to turn a CVVC UST to a VC or CV?

Same- ;-;
I'm having difficulties with the utau program, even when I changed the language to japanese, it's doesn't work, i am using a window 10 so maybe it's a bit different???
Best tutorial eve!. Still need practice. :)
One question...Can you tell me the UST types of Rouon Aro狼音アロ ? Because i just download both UTAU software and its voicebanks.
Will you ever show or explain how to make those different UTAU vocal types?
Initially I had planned to make a tutorial on how to make a vcv voicebank. But seeing how I sorta lost interest in UTAU, or at least, making these tutorial, I never got around to doing so. Mostly because it'd probably end up being a 4 part long tutorial.
That's understandable! Do you perhaps know about a video or a text tutorial on this then? :>
Thank You! :)
Aight so I tried to get an English VCCV voicebank to talk but she's silent when I press play-
Before that, I tried to get the same voicebank to say something else and she only said like 3 of the syllables-
Help-
which vb was it? i was struggling to use aiko kikyuune until i read a tutorial on how to use her and what i should type to get certain sounds. if you go to the utau wiki and search ur vb you might be able to find a tutorial. hope this helps ^^
@@rustwat3r i got the vb working shortly after the original comment but in case you're still curious the vb was of an utau called default
Can someone tell me how to fix this ?
My Utau can only sing あいうえお Other than this she cant sing. (Ex. ka sa wo)
Im using Namine Ritsu for my voicebank.
This video is very helpful.
What kind of UST voicebank type would you recommend a beginner use?
CV is probably the easiest to start out with ^^ From there you can move to VCV and CVVC. English VCCV is very tricky to work with so, I'd recommend you stay away from that for now.
0 Dislikes. Yes! Good! Keep it at that!
So since VCV only works in hiragana does that mean it won't work unless I change my locale? Thank for all the tutorials by the way! Very helpful!
Yes. In order to use UTAU properly, it's necessary to change your locale. And no problem ^^
Could you give link to the VCCV tutoriral, it isn't in the video anymore due to anotations not existing anymore
Defokos samples are cute as fuckk 🥺🥺🥺💘💘
WHERE HAS THIS TUTORIAL BEEN?! I could have had the help sooner ;n;
I would like to ask if it can be done in other languages? Portuguese type?
Yep there are voicbanks in other languages! Most of them are in VCCV (ex: english, spanish) so portuguese could be done
I'm still confused about utau
This has gotten so confusing...but probably because I'm stupid. Your tutorials are great though!
I downloaded Ruko's female VCV voicebank and i was VERY confused when it didn't sing. i wrote ''です’’and when i let her sing, it didn't work. because で and す are 2 different characters, and i decided to see her samples, and they weren't specific characters like a CV voicebank, they were, just how described in the video, a bundle of sounds together. I have a Teto Diphone V-CV voicebank and it's MUCH more different. Honestly i still don't get the difference.... is it because Teto's VB is Diphone????! Please anyone help -_-
I think teto's VB is much like a CV voicebank because i let her say Desu (です) again and it worked. even though de and su are 2 different characters, it worked. At this point i'm very confused because her voicebank said *V* -CV and it was like a CV one. Again, is it because it's ''Diphone'' whatever that meant? And for those of you who will say ''I Maybe mixed up and that i was using a CV voicebank but i thought it was another V-CV voicebank i used earlier'' NOPE. This is my ONLY teto voicebank.
Anybody help??!
Anyways i'll go download a Ruko CV voicebank... but I'm not sure about Teto :(
Also Sorry some of the text might be displayed weirdly it's because i kept the Japanese keyboard on XD
What is the 0:48 music??
You mean the song he's singing?

How to make your UI English?
is the starter voicebank english? or just japanese
ive recently had a problem with utau :-/ i cant add a hyphen/- after any letter or number without it being on a different note, anyone help? thanks in advance
how to you get a ust type to match the voicebank type youre using. everywhere else ive looked has been super unclear and ive spent the past two days trying to get one voicebank to work and im literally so confused and sad. i dont know how to make the ust vcv, but the voicebanks vcv and i dont know understand the program well yet, and its very un-intuitive :(
Idk if you found this out already but double click the note and type/copy-paste the vcv alias of the sound . if it says ka in hirigana you put - ka in hirigana there instead !
I need to know what song it was singing during the voice type demos...
its a vocal cover of hartmanns youkai girl from touhou ^_^

Can you make more than one UTAU character voice?
i dowload yokune ruko but he doesen't make Any sounds. what should i do?
Is there like an option to make set the vocal type to soft? Or do you like to have to make adjustments or such? ovo i need help
The voicebank itself would have to be recorded in a soft way. You can't turn a normal voicebank into a soft or power bank. You can slightly adjust the airiness a bit though using flags and resamplers
Ik this is late but can someone tell me how to fix my problem?
When I open the romantokana it says *error can read phone(?)* or smth on the lines of that can you help me fix my problem? 8 checked the phone file but I don't see any problem other then the weird letters i think they're syllables then there's a = sign then more syllables..
Ik I'm bad at explaining if I could I would send a screenshot.
Can you make a full version of 0:37
are there CVC voicebanks
Hmm.. Not that I know of...
Though VCCV banks do require a CVC portion of syllables to be recorded.
Yuunarii thanks
omg
when you record a multipicth voicebank do yo u have to record each and every note?
when you record a normal mono voicebank, you record every syllable at the same pitch/note. for a multipitch bank you do the same thing, but multiple times and with different pitches for each recording set. theres nothing stopping you from recording your syllable list at every note possible.. but.. i dont think you should. just settle for 3 or 4, maybe 5. it doesnt take long to record all the necessary syllables normally.
Thank
You

I don't understand why some of my downloaded voicebanks sound far from the one I expected. For example, my Defoko and Kasane Teto read 'na' as 'ni', 'ni' as 'ru' and 'do' as 'da'. Is there anyway to fix this? I think there's something to do with the .wav and .freq files, but they remain unchanged since I downloaded the voicebanks.

How do you do "aeiou" voicebanks tho?
how do you download ritsu or teto on it?

hey, um I have a quick question .. at 0:35 you present us the different "types" of the voice, but how do we change the normal voice to soft or power ??
The Voicebanks are separate (Though it's the same UTAU name) so you must switch between the power VB and the soft VB manually, as if they are entirely separate voicebanks.
@@sumayajahan111thx for reply but how I can make that and where i can make that ( It's a tool?...)
@@sachagacha4284 So some UTAUs have different voice banks, (I'll use teto cuz she actually has different voicebanks for whisper and diphone, etc.) So if you go onto the teto website to download (link -> kasaneteto.jp/en/voicebank.html you can see there are many different voicebanks to download though its just teto, but as a disclaimer not all utaus have different voicebanks! So once your on the teto website click on the picture of teto that "says our beloved daughter" next to your desired voicebank, i presume your new to utau so I recommend to download the diphone voicebank! So then once its downloaded drag the zip file into the UTAU interface! Then restart UTAU and you will see your Voicebank is in! As for the "power" and "soft" not all UTAUs label their voices like that, so if you want a soft Voicebank for Teto use the whisper voicebank! If your still confused.. The link that I gave gives a tutorial on the bottom of the page on how to download teto...
@@sachagacha4284 Also to see your Voicebanks! Go to the Project tab and then select project properties! There you see a name like uta (the default Utau).. To change it just click on the dropdown menu and you should see your voicebank! Well if you downloaded and restarted utau
As for making your own UTAU i never went that far into it since I'm still learning how to make USTs! I wish you luck and hope you found this helpful!
