In this tutorial I'll be going over how to make an UTAU cover. The process itself is rather simple ^^ It's the amount of effort and detail you put into your work that will make your cover sound either sloppy or like a masterpiece ^^ Keep in mind, practice makes perfect.

I've noticed that some USTs are in romaji. To anyone who doesn't know how to type in Japanese, I suggest installing the romaji to hirigana plugin.

by that i dont mean getting ur irl keyboard that you press on to type stuff into the computer/laptop, you can set the language on the computer/laptop. its a setting i think haha

I'm so sad this tutorial series is discontinued. I just found it and found it so helpful and loved it! I'm not sure if it was due to personal issues or just lack of interest, but if you ever decided to continue the series, it would be so cool.
6 and 7 are simply deleted/werent posted, but 8(the plugins one), 9, and 10(demonstration of their tuning process) are still up and in the playlist!!

4:51 Those buttons are like magic! I was wondering how to get the sounds to not sound so choppy, so I was trying to manually adjust each envelope, which was... time consuming, to say the least. Is there a quick explanation on what each of those actually does?
Uhm.. Well the reset button resets all the envelopes to their default value o3o ACPT has also something to do with resetting stuff to their normal value.. And.. The P2P3 and P1P4 are for the crossfading between the samples :0 (everything up to the green line within the oto configurations will be fully crossfaded with the previous note) Oww yeah and the OPT button optimizes the UST for crossfading.. However most of the time everything is already optimized so.. I don't use that button ^^

thank you for this tutorial series! I've been listening to vocaloid and utau since I was a teenager and wanted to start making some of my own :)
i still have no idea how this stuff works, but I'm clicking buttons and things are making noises so obviously I'm doing something right! Fr, though, these tutorials are really helping me out
hmm, i've downloaded utau and the voicebank using the japanese local setting thing but whenever i play a note, it doesn't play and when i render it, it just sounds like something on the piano.
also i've used both hiragana and romaji ust's and nothing
KawaiiCookiePuff um if you haven't resolved the issue yet I'd try a different UST. make sure the UST type matches the VB type. and check you have the right resampler and everything selected.
The fun part is finding said on vocals and off vocals on the internet seeing that the main website that off vocals were distributed on went down years ago

When I did all of the right steps it says failed to generate wav file, Please check the settings. (I have Tokyo teddy bear)

Hi Yuu, I had recently thought of installing UTAU and your videos helped a lot. I downloaded Fushi Murasaki's Violet and Cyan voicebanks but the violet one doesn't sing. I could briefly see the window that pops up-the command prompt?-and i read "file load error". Should i try deleting then downloading her voicebank again?
FCMCC15 it doesn't help cuz I have the same problem;^^
Make sure you are typing in the correct syllables. Since she is VCV, you have to put a vowel before each Hiragana character (ex: a あ, o と) I had the same problem until I figured that out. If you're already doing this, then I don't know how to help. :(
hey! thank you for this tutorial it really helps. however every time i try to play the song it says "failed to generate wav. file" i have not found anything that would fix this so if you know anything that would help me fix this it'd be great! im using a romaji voicebank and the ust is romaji just so you know so its not about the type of text i believe.

ok so i got trouble making it work
first i installed it, went flawlessly, then installed the voicebank but when i wanted to make it say something as you showed in the tutorials it wont make any sound
i figured i would need to reinstall so i did, it worked smoother now but now i can't select a voice bank.. not even the default one..
using windows 10 pro btw

I'm still trying to figure out why utau isn't singing. I did everything the videos said and I even got a voice bang in Japanese, and I can type hiragana in it, but still no sounds at all

im having trouble with trying to get my utau to sing. i have recorded her using romanji and i dont know how to install plugins but i have it downloaded. i tried to get her to sing my will but she isnt saying anything

This video was really helpful! ^u^ I was able to make a cover with Defoko and I was hoping to upload it, but I have a question. How were you able to upload your own audio (the cover of My Will) to UA-cam?? I exported it as a .WAV file, but I'm not sure what to do from there
Well, for UA-cam uploads you need video. Use Windows movie maker (or iMovie depending on your computer) to insert the WAV file and make a video for it. The simplest way would be to find a nice picture of Defoko and use that throughout the whole video.
I've noticed that some notes are missing because they're not in the note range or not recorded. Is there any way to fix it?

Um, I fixed the ust to my utau like you said too, but there's still a problem, she's extremely choppy. Now, yes, I provided her voice.. and I don't know how to fix it. She doesn't hold out short sounds. I'm trying to make her sing the lost one's weeping, but she only says the first letter of every word. ;w;
Hmm.. That's strange.. Well.. Seeing how you did make her sing stuff, I'm assuming you did get the UST type correct. And.. If you have made a CV UTAU, than that's why she sounds choppy :0 My 3rd tutorial goes into detail regarding this, so I recommend watching it if you haven't already ^^
Aside from that.. The only reason I can think of why she only says the first letter of each syllable though is.. Oto errors ^^; So.. Perhaps try rechecking her oto ^^
What if you want to cover a vocaloid song? :p
I'm pretty sure you can download a VSQX file, the vocaloid file, then import it to a UST, but im new to this, so I'm not completely sure.

i was following the steps listed on 3:00 but it said that i had an invalid tool 2. what do i replace it with instead of freesamp.exe?
Just replace it with resampler.exe

How to make an UTAU cover - Step 1: Download someone else's UTAU cover
I used Ekkoberry's UST for Patchwork Staccato with Momo Momone (soft) and she was silent. I did everything said here but she just did nothing, I also used other different USTs but she still did nothing. Can anyone help??
It most likely can't read whats on the program(EX. a UTAU recorded with romanjii can't read hiragana)

What exactly do you mean?
I mean what did you use to make your own vocaloid voice to add to the soundtrack?
To make your own UTAU you'll first have to record a number of syllables in an audio recording program (usually ranging from 150 to 2000+ recordings, depending on what type of), then configure them within the UTAU program, and add some additional information files.
The process as to how to do this is very complex, so I can't really explain it in this comment ^^;

You have to get an application that can open them, because your computer can't do it itself.

How do I convert the utau file into a mp3? Also what mixer program do you use?
All audio files you export from UTAU will be in .wav format. You'll need a different program to convert it to mp3.
Personally I use FL Studio, but you can also use other mixer programs like Audacity and Reaper.
I just did but for some reason it just plays the singing utau as a piano

i keep trying to open a UST file with the UTAU vb i want chosen, but it keeps giving me an error message with "Info: The preutterance of 'a w' is out of consonant area.

So that error message really means nthing, and the ! boxes go away once you fit the UST, the show up because the current UTAU isn't fitted to the bank
i know im VERY late but whenever i try to make any of the voice banks sing they dont work no matter what lyrics i write or USTs no sound comes out
Sorry, this is my first time attempting to make a UTAU cover can someone help me out? Whenever I go to the screen at 2:53 and change the voicebank to one I have and press "OK" it takes me to the Utau home screen type thing and it's completely blank. Does anyone know what step I might have missed or what I have done wrong?

Hii, I know that this is kinda dead but sometimes the utau won't sing certain notes in the ust, does anyone know how to fix this? I've already tried using other utaus but those wouldn't sing those same notes either, so the utau doesn't seem to be the problem. This doesnt just happen with one ust in particular, but kinda in every single project that I start. I'm quite frustrated because I can't seem to find anyone with the same struggle T-T

What if my UST is in English
Is there anyway to play a specific part of the song? I loaded the UST and I wanted to modify some specific parts but I have to keep replaying the song over and over to get to that part. Is there any way to skip immediately to one section?
I found this with little experimentation. You just simply select the ones you want to hear, then click play.

this vid is old and you probably forgot about it but I'm having trouble?? So I tried this with aiSeNMa and I have the notes in UTAU. But there are exclamation points over every single one and it wouldnt play. And also when I type in hiragana it turns into a question mark. I think that the reason that people are not hearing their Utau sing is because there are english letters before the japanese ones... I deleted the english ones and it seems to work :) Yuunarii, is there anyway to delete them all at once? Or a way to make the Utau still sing with them?
Then you've probably downloaded a VCV UST. I recommend watching Tutorial #3 to learn about the different types of USTs and voicebanks (so you know which are compatible with which).
