Panasonic HDC-SD90: Review and Test

- Sorry if this video has a few rough edges, I'm trying to make these as often as possible but for some reason I'm convinced they're not good enough. It's one of those weird anxiety things, but I'm sure I'll get over it at some point, just bare with me for now.
The Panasonic HDC-SD90 was released by Panasonic in 2011. It makes a decent budget camcorder as it sports a microphone input and a video light. It also has a lens thread for a 3D compatible lens.
PROS:
Lightweight.
Video light.
Lens thread.
Progressive recording.
40X zoom.
Decent microphone.
Microphone input.
CONS:
Low megapixel count.
Manual mode has a few rough edges.
No headphone output.
I just bought one of these for 100$ on eBay and this video helped so much. I didn’t want to get a junky amazon/eBay/off brand camera, and this video is the most recent most comprehensive review on it. I’m just going to be using it for home/family things, so I didn’t want to spend a ton. Anyway, thanks for reviewing old products that still hold up pretty well.
You mentioned the camera gets hot and this might be an issue. I can confirm it is an issue if the camera has been left in a non heated place during winter as it fogs up after a few minutes.
Otherwise it's a great camera that I still use to make YT videos in 2022.
And now I know what the 1080 button does they'll be even better. 😋

Wonderful, I had hands on this camcorder, I hope you keep this documentary for a while online. so I can by time follow your explanation how to set up. I had previous the HDC SD 9. The 90 is different. The microphone 3.5 mm jack is a nice plus factor. The Panasonic SD 9 and since a time the SD 90 until today in the box and in fact not really used are the only camcorders I ever had. I filmed mostly with the smartphone, thanks to find your video, i gives hope to made time for it. By the way you lives there great, in the forest, really the best place to lives in peace with the nature.
Meh, i just bought one from Ebay and noticed it heating up after 5 mins being switched on. Hope it isn't ruined and still usable
Still my go-to camcorder.Watched the entire thing..learned much ( kinesthetic learner). Much better than the owners' manual for me.That Number reset had always daunted me, but I bet that is why I get overwritten files in my editing program.
Thanks! It's a great camcorder, I've recently been using it as a 24hr camera. That thing can record 24 hours like a champ, with zero image burn-in on the LCD screen too (glares at the Sony HDR-CX130, which DOES do that). That, and it doesn't have a recording cap too, it can record for as long as the memory card will permit it. Fantastic camera.
@@FatCatTech does it have a clean hdmi live feed? I don't want to record on it but just use the live video hooked up to a hdmi switcher and encoder. I can't find out anywhere if it does this.

Anything about the sound ? It says L & R next to the mic guards at the front; do i dream that it's STEREO ? Am I dreaming that the jack input is stereo ? Why has the visual side come in leaps and bounds yet the audio on phones and cameras goes back to the 60's, before stereo was invented ?
It does have a stereo microphone, external microphone jack is stereo as well. I've the same complaints about camera phones too honestly. Those, and the cheaper camera companies, really seem to drop the ball with microphones in what would otherwise be a fine camera.
I should also add that, while the sound quality on the HDC-SD90 is fine for what it's worth, the audio tends to peak/clip easily in louder environments.

Should get a leash and let the cat outside even 5 minutes. A change of feeling and what they wish looking out the window. They live longer too as they need to eat grass blade a tiny amount to get rid of a hair ball it make them throw it up and I've see
it it's about 1/2 " hard roll up ball of fur they collect giving thenself a bath for you.
We would often let her outside under strict supervision, though from what I remember, she never actually tried to eat grass, she also never really got hairballs, I guess those two are connected. I miss her.
