So happy this podcast exists - really want this page and series to blow up because these are such precious and amazing works of dialogue! Thank you Ejoe for being such an ever-inspiring rolemodel. Didn't realise watching this episode could make me reflect so much on love (for the dance, for people, and myself)...

Its just one of those things, when you put your heart into something that was you and your friends and then you go your own way and now new people get involved and start carrying the torch you lit, it can be hard to keep your feelings in check especially when people seem to have a mindset like it all would have gone the same for them with or without out you. I can relate to that for sure. Granted, you (ejoe) have a bigger stake in something than I managed to have in my life and you even influenced me which influenced my own influences. Its all a chain and people are really one anyhow but, I cant help but wish I could get the picture of the world if I never existed and have that as proof that many people wouldnt be who they are if I was never here. Not sure if other folks think about that concept and I know thats just some weird self-serving nonsense but, still, just want to be acknowledge on some level for the things I did contribute which has people benefiting from my existence in ways I sometimes envy. I dont really dwell on it a much as this post may make out....I dont think...
Thank you for this, Ejoe! I was i ntroduced to house from the homie "Soul" from New York, by way of Atlanta. He always to this day speaks very highly of you. I learned the art of dance is about extensions, lines, angles & telling a story. Definitely about a feeling! We would tear up the floors of MJQ's till the lights came on. House is still in me, but my body has suffered some of those injuries over time. Wouldn't trade it for the world, and I've learned to adjust my dancing based on where I am physically in the now. Soul would speak about heads turning their backs if you weren't good, so I pushed to get some respect. I didn't care for the circle, but learned to respect it. I was going to get the release every weekend. I do have a somewhat competitive spirit, but only wanted to get better at the craft. You have dropped some insight on how the craft changes for the individual. Thanks again for your impact on the culture and also in the world of dance. 🙏🏾💯
A couple of things that Ejoe does better than most, which makes him a stylist, is he interprets the music better than most, and he uses the middle of his body better than most. I'm an old disco / Garage era dancer, and interpreting a track was what made you stand out when dancing - made you look like you were one with the track. As to these house dancers today, there is an awful lot of emphasis on dancing from the knees down, with the use of hands and arms merely for balance, which makes for boring, cookie-cutter dancing - it all looks the same. Ejoe uses his torso and his hips to accentuate - not in a female type of way, but in a stylistic type of way.
Thank you Ejoe for the history. The background breakdown. Your knowledge & wisdom. When you spoke on mental health was so real and relatable. Thank you for sharing and always remaining humble and loving. You make the world a better and brighter place. Continued blessings my dear friend. Love you!
Hi! Vinh. This is Masa. You remember? I coincidentally found out this channel and this movie. I had really fun! Good job bro! And I found out how E JOE is cool again and saw few videos after this. And found out his workshop will be here in Hiroshima today and I decided I will go to take it!! What a coincident!! Thanks for letting me know about Snow raven too!
Hi Masa! Hope you are well and of course I remember you, could never forget! Hope you are doing good in Japan and I'm happy to hear you're still dancing. What did you think of this episode and how was the class? Hope to talk to you soon!

I'm on my second listen, and there's so many points to discuss and unpack here. It is crucial for the community to recognize that older dancers, despite being perceived as "past their prime," still have much to offer and contribute if they want to remain in the scene. No-one should be pushed out of their scene/community based on their age. If our mentors can still be active as their vessels continue to age, following generations can continue this lineage and keep at it to retain and further the culture. 43:20 - "Are you taking class to be a better dancer, or just for the experience?" - There are many approaches that people wil take for dance. Some people want a cardio work out, some people want a difficult routine, some people want to learn how to dance, some people just want the right to say "I'm taking XYZ's class." Having this discussion with many people from all around the world, as teachers it's often a challenge to cater for everyone's needs as we turn up to teach. 43:43 The negative aspects of dance are 100% true, people are willing to undercut others in a dog eat dog fashion, whether it is for a cheaper price or to put themselves in the limelight. There can be a large disparity with dancers who have had years of experience/knowledge getting paid the same amount as a new cat on the block. 1:02:30 I love how Ejoe made the point about not aiming to be #1 at everything, it is lonely at the top. Mental health is real and we do battle the fight of fading away. The longer you stay in the game you see more people and more people go. You just gotta do you, and find what makes you happy in your artistry.
I loved the podcast, espacially the audio quality. Sorry but I think as a host you interrupted alot. I mean it happened alot of time that Ejoe was saying somehthing and you started sharing as he was talking. I find that irritating. I know you will work on this and make these podcasts better! Love
