Incredible. I'm not the first to point it out, but this totally brings me back to Bela Fleck and the Flecktones on so many levels. And I can offer no higher praise, because they are my favorite group of all time. Everything Cory and the Wongnotes bring (brings?) to the table just absolutely wreaks of excellence. Thank you for gifting us with this fantastic music. And I've never heard someone funk on the mandolin quite like that before. I mean, Chris Thile definitely does his thing, but that was so funky towards the end of that solo, that it was funkay! Well done.
I agree and thought the same. He actually just released a video with Bela today. It was great, but I immediately came back to this video. This song is incredible.
I still can't get over how he got half the stage in the Billy Strings "nostalgia" episode. They did a "flashback to a prior gig" skit earlier in the episode, where they were making fun of him for taking up half of a tiny crowded stage, and I thought, well that came out of the blue! Then later, during the Billy jam, they show everyone else playing in this tiny space, and they pan over to the keyboardist, and he's got a couch fort made out of a B3 and Rhodes and who knows what else, taking up half the space. He might've been sitting in a lazy-boy, I can't remember. Seems probable.😂 He earns his rent tho, for sure.
Killed this collaboration with Sierra she’s amazing and the bass solo kicked ass too. I hope Wong notes keep expanding their catalog to different genres besides funk because this is amazing.
Horn arrangement is next level and Petar's playing is so magical - Possibly the best stuff Cory has put out so far! Just need a little Charles Berthoud colab.
Yes! this moment is truly awesome. Sierra and Sonny are having a conversation through this whole song. She's lightly riffing on what he's doing through his whole solo and vice versa. One great moment is @2:57 -- and he's right there with her @5:34.
@@dwmetzger Petar is also very much in conversation the Sonny and Sierra throughout. He swaps up his rhythms on the fly like it's effortless, but he's absolutely playing to what they're playing. Incredible musicianship all around.
Sonny T is a bad, bad man! 2:25 in particular, and all of the solos were incredible here! Shoutout to Michael B. Nelson for some amazing 'soft' horns part writing that is absolutely perfect for this song. From the very beginning 0:18 the horn section just makes you feel good.
The horns after 6:40 are especially gorgeous. I can't understand how they can be the most filthy dirty stank funkers one minute and then be so pretty sounding
This is not only my favorite Cory Wong song but this is the most positive and uplifting song I've heard in a long time period. The solos, the way the energy builds across the different parts, how happy everyone looks, it's all so good.
This is my favorite comment. Exactly what I heard, feel and saw when watching/listening to this video. The woodwinds (Eddie Barbash!!!!) and the horns near the end are of conservatory level excellence. Corey Wong - you are a fabulous bandleader for working so hard to get the talent and then corral them all to play like the Basie band did.
I was going to say everyone should have someone in their life that looks at them the way Cory looks at Sierra, but after a third watch, it's the whole darn band! Just staring in amazement and joy as Sierra absolutely crushes her mandolin! The whole horn section is leaning back going Holy Smokes what did I just hear! And that's high praise coming from the Wongnotes as they are all absolutely stunning musicians! I'd go see this concert in a heart beat.
I’ve known Petar a LONG time , so I realise his juju is so strong. Come on though, Kevin, Kevin is magic on the keys to the point you don’t even realise he is the plate holding this cuisine together. Amazing.
Sonny's solo into the whole band coming back in straight into Sierra's solo is very satisfying. I don't have the vocabulary to really discuss how much I dig it.
Holy guacamole that was impressive! I really want to give Michael Nelson a nod here for the extraordinary horn arrangement - the whole thing is amazingly arranged but dang those horns. I hear a bit of Jimmy Pankow in there with some really unique voicings, so creative. And Sierra is a boss.
I saw them play this at Show in February. It made me cry. I've been hoping for a recorded version forever, and I was so happy to see this pop up today. So good.
I feel lucky to have lived long enough to see an artist of Cory's caliber claim the stage. He and his group are masters at everything they do. Top musicianship and top entertainers. What a blessing.
I have to lose a few more words on this. It's so easy to end up doing something cheesy, when you're not really familiar with this kind of music. You didn't. You hit all the sweet spots I can imagine in a piece of music like this. I'm smiling from ear to ear. Thank You all!
Honestly, this is probably my favorite song right now. Everything about it makes me so happy. That chorus, that bass solo, Sierra's solo...amazing stuff.
Hull has obviously been top-notch in terms of talent and chops for years, but this last year or so her collaborations in particular have really gone in a cool (for me) direction. I used her playing too pretty and technical but this is loose and fun and expressive as hell.
Hell of a band. I absolutely love the videos with Sierra Hull. The only way to improve Wongnotes videos would to get Nêgah's joyful energy on screen more.
This crowd of young musicians just continue to crush it, I love to see them collaborating and just making the music scene something new and fresh. Cory can play with anyone, and Sierra is just a genius.
Not to knock her playing at all, she's absolutely amazing. But you should definitely check out Chris Thile if you haven't already, he's an excellent mandolin player
I like the randomness of the intentstream interrupt at 1:58, and even better, Cory’s look around at percussion & keyboards with an expression of “What the ____ was that?” At least it blended well tonally.
That bass solo reminded me of the one on the live version of Ellie with the Metropole Orkest. Absolutely killed it, we need more bass solos in this world!

Nailed it, what he said.
Yeah! Agreed with you
Agreed! I saw them w/Sierra in Des Moines on this last tour and said the same thing regarding Flecktone vibes.
And Bela Fleck is on yesterday's episode!
I agree and thought the same. He actually just released a video with Bela today. It was great, but I immediately came back to this video. This song is incredible.
7:01 Woman in the back is having the time of her life with the shakers! You go!
Nêgah Santos always does!
Unsung hero of this jam, FR FR!!
Yes indeed...she's also in Stephen Colbert Show band@@trustnugget280as is the trumpet player.
Your man on keys does not get enough credit. Smooths each transition like soft butter.

Kevin Gastonguay is the guy and he is really kick as keyboard player, a bit the master behind the curtains
kinda like Woody Goss in Vulfpeck. Underappreciated but soooo talented and valuable
And the percussionist! Those two add so much detail.
Kev
Sonny is out here making phone calls on his bass. Legend.
He brings it every time!
Most younger gen wouldn't fully get that one.👍👍
Amazing! Flecktones vibes.
more than a little Dave Matthews as well..
was just thinking Big Country from Left of Cool, even with the breakdown for the bass solo where Victor repeats the Jaco line from Continuum
There's another song on this album that's very Flektones esque. And Béla makes an appearance on a couple songs also. So does Victor Wooten.
@@cozz1979 def was thinking big country right off the bat

Oh man yes I said this on one of Charles' vids that he needs to collab with Cory
At 7:20, that arrangement. Wff so great.
Yes to everything you said!
interesting idea
What do you imagine Charles Berthoud would bring to the table besides memes?
Had I not seen the title I would have guessed this was a Bela Fleck and the Flecktones song. Loved it.
SERIOUS Bela Fleck and the Flecktones vibes.
This explains it. He's a fan ua-cam.com/video/XejBKKbm9JM/v-deo.html
I think the name of the band is a direct nod
Thanks!
I love when Sonny grins as he clocks that Sierra did the same harmonic run as he did, to open her own solo
Never noticed that til now!! Just a beautiful sonic conversation all around here!!

Sierra Hull, amazing musician. Love her sound and every note she played.
Alright, Sonny and Sierra actually made me shed a happy tear with those beautiful solos GOODNESS ME 😍
This legit happened to me!
same man, this is so joyous
Agree. Pure joy
Feels like we drove off the freeway and on to a gravel road on that one. Beautiful song and a nice detour for the band.
I was not expecting this but I'm here for it 🙏
Was not expecting to see Eugene here but I too am here for it lol
Hope the recovery is going well!
Cory, Sierra, and Eugene in one place, when worlds collide lol
i was expecting an ozzy cover.
I love how Cory makes the stank face when Sonny plays those pentatonic natural harmonics at 1:58
He's making dial tones on the bass lol
I really wanna know how he did that, I didn't realise you could even do that on a bass
That was my made me look up, "Who just did what?!" moment of this one

3:54 *Favourite moment:* That exchange of smiles between Cory Wong and Sonny Thompson after his bass solo
Because Sierra replicates how Sonny T starts his solo in her own, good stuff!!

I came for Sierra, but subscribed for Sonny!
Phenomenal
I could hear Cory's laugh at the end, even though it wasn't in the mix.
Good job, guys!
