Incredible. I'm not the first to point it out, but this totally brings me back to Bela Fleck and the Flecktones on so many levels. And I can offer no higher praise, because they are my favorite group of all time. Everything Cory and the Wongnotes bring (brings?) to the table just absolutely wreaks of excellence. Thank you for gifting us with this fantastic music. And I've never heard someone funk on the mandolin quite like that before. I mean, Chris Thile definitely does his thing, but that was so funky towards the end of that solo, that it was funkay! Well done.
I agree and thought the same. He actually just released a video with Bela today. It was great, but I immediately came back to this video. This song is incredible.
Killed this collaboration with Sierra she’s amazing and the bass solo kicked ass too. I hope Wong notes keep expanding their catalog to different genres besides funk because this is amazing.
I still can't get over how he got half the stage in the Billy Strings "nostalgia" episode. They did a "flashback to a prior gig" skit earlier in the episode, where they were making fun of him for taking up half of a tiny crowded stage, and I thought, well that came out of the blue! Then later, during the Billy jam, they show everyone else playing in this tiny space, and they pan over to the keyboardist, and he's got a couch fort made out of a B3 and Rhodes and who knows what else, taking up half the space. He might've been sitting in a lazy-boy, I can't remember. Seems probable.😂 He earns his rent tho, for sure.
This is not only my favorite Cory Wong song but this is the most positive and uplifting song I've heard in a long time period. The solos, the way the energy builds across the different parts, how happy everyone looks, it's all so good.
This is my favorite comment. Exactly what I heard, feel and saw when watching/listening to this video. The woodwinds (Eddie Barbash!!!!) and the horns near the end are of conservatory level excellence. Corey Wong - you are a fabulous bandleader for working so hard to get the talent and then corral them all to play like the Basie band did.
Sonny T is a bad, bad man! 2:25 in particular, and all of the solos were incredible here! Shoutout to Michael B. Nelson for some amazing 'soft' horns part writing that is absolutely perfect for this song. From the very beginning 0:18 the horn section just makes you feel good.
The horns after 6:40 are especially gorgeous. I can't understand how they can be the most filthy dirty stank funkers one minute and then be so pretty sounding
Yes! this moment is truly awesome. Sierra and Sonny are having a conversation through this whole song. She's lightly riffing on what he's doing through his whole solo and vice versa. One great moment is @2:57 -- and he's right there with her @5:34.
Horn arrangement is next level and Petar's playing is so magical - Possibly the best stuff Cory has put out so far! Just need a little Charles Berthoud colab.
I was going to say everyone should have someone in their life that looks at them the way Cory looks at Sierra, but after a third watch, it's the whole darn band! Just staring in amazement and joy as Sierra absolutely crushes her mandolin! The whole horn section is leaning back going Holy Smokes what did I just hear! And that's high praise coming from the Wongnotes as they are all absolutely stunning musicians! I'd go see this concert in a heart beat.
Sonny's solo into the whole band coming back in straight into Sierra's solo is very satisfying. I don't have the vocabulary to really discuss how much I dig it.
I’ve known Petar a LONG time , so I realise his juju is so strong. Come on though, Kevin, Kevin is magic on the keys to the point you don’t even realise he is the plate holding this cuisine together. Amazing.
I feel lucky to have lived long enough to see an artist of Cory's caliber claim the stage. He and his group are masters at everything they do. Top musicianship and top entertainers. What a blessing.
Holy guacamole that was impressive! I really want to give Michael Nelson a nod here for the extraordinary horn arrangement - the whole thing is amazingly arranged but dang those horns. I hear a bit of Jimmy Pankow in there with some really unique voicings, so creative. And Sierra is a boss.
This crowd of young musicians just continue to crush it, I love to see them collaborating and just making the music scene something new and fresh. Cory can play with anyone, and Sierra is just a genius.
Honestly, this is probably my favorite song right now. Everything about it makes me so happy. That chorus, that bass solo, Sierra's solo...amazing stuff.
I saw them play this at Show in February. It made me cry. I've been hoping for a recorded version forever, and I was so happy to see this pop up today. So good.
Not to knock her playing at all, she's absolutely amazing. But you should definitely check out Chris Thile if you haven't already, he's an excellent mandolin player
I see a Cory and the Wongnotes video featuring Sierra Hull and I automatically click 'Play.' And just like that, before the song has even ended, my whole day is so much better. Great jam, folks! I thank you all. You're the best and we love you for it. ❤️👏💯
I have to lose a few more words on this. It's so easy to end up doing something cheesy, when you're not really familiar with this kind of music. You didn't. You hit all the sweet spots I can imagine in a piece of music like this. I'm smiling from ear to ear. Thank You all!
Hell of a band. I absolutely love the videos with Sierra Hull. The only way to improve Wongnotes videos would to get Nêgah's joyful energy on screen more.
If you're here because Cory Wong continues to entertain you at breakneck speed even when he slows it down and let's you take a breath in such an amazing fashion as this...you're on the right track. Cory is quite the entertainer, as are most of his friends. His recent outing with Mark Lettieri was freakin' awesome. Wooten was a classic choice and is a staple on bass in my mind. Always revisiting Cory's show, old and new, always entertaining! Thanks Cory...keep this ride moving!
That bass solo reminded me of the one on the live version of Ellie with the Metropole Orkest. Absolutely killed it, we need more bass solos in this world!
Every.damn.time…every time I watch this it brings tears to my eyes. Yes, this is an excellent tune, excellent arrangement, excellent execution (says the non-musician), but it’s the sheer joy they express that moves me each time. Not to say I’m am not 🤯 with the bass and mandolin solos. I just got my tickets to see them (with Sierra) at Marymor in November. I cannot wait!
I like the randomness of the intentstream interrupt at 1:58, and even better, Cory’s look around at percussion & keyboards with an expression of “What the ____ was that?” At least it blended well tonally.
sonny's solo on this track is so good! just really interesting tasty tones. sierra's surgical precision also, killer. and negah's accents really bring the whole thing together. cory, always laying it down whether he's playing rhythm, lead, or something in between.
Fabulous!! Saw these guys tour this year and it was quite a wholesome jam. Everybody is top notch, but the drummer Petar Janjic was so charismatic. Great experience.
This is one of my favorite collabs, Sierra's sound changes and influences the band in so many levels, only great musicians can do that. You all are amazing, I really enjoy this show. Thanks!
How does the video not have a million views yet? Every. Single. Video. That I’ve seen from this series is top notch, unmatched musicianship that reminds me why I love to play and listen. Unreal.
7:01 Woman in the back is having the time of her life with the shakers! You go!
Nêgah Santos always does!
Unsung hero of this jam, FR FR!!
Yes indeed...she's also in Stephen Colbert Show band@@trustnugget280as is the trumpet player.
Sonny T is a monster!
Incredible. I'm not the first to point it out, but this totally brings me back to Bela Fleck and the Flecktones on so many levels. Nailed it, what he said.
Yeah! Agreed with you
Agreed! I saw them w/Sierra in Des Moines on this last tour and said the same thing regarding Flecktone vibes.
And Bela Fleck is on yesterday's episode!
Would be interesting to hear Les Claypool as a guest artist on the bass!!!
@@fookingsog yes please!
Amazing! Flecktones vibes.
more than a little Dave Matthews as well..
was just thinking Big Country from Left of Cool, even with the breakdown for the bass solo where Victor repeats the Jaco line from Continuum
There's another song on this album that's very Flektones esque. And Béla makes an appearance on a couple songs also. So does Victor Wooten.
@@cozz1979 def was thinking big country right off the bat
@@cozz1979 Holy cow I've never caught that. You're ABSOLUTELY right.
Your man on keys does not get enough credit. Smooths each transition like soft butter.

Kevin Gastonguay is the guy and he is really kick as keyboard player, a bit the master behind the curtains
kinda like Woody Goss in Vulfpeck. Underappreciated but soooo talented and valuable
And the percussionist! Those two add so much detail.
Kev
This is not only my favorite Cory Wong song but this is the most positive and uplifting song I've heard in a long time period. The solos, the way the energy builds across the different parts, how happy everyone looks, it's all so good.
With everything going on in the world, music is beautiful.
Sierra Hull, amazing musician. Love her sound and every note she played.
Had I not seen the title I would have guessed this was a Bela Fleck and the Flecktones song. Loved it.
SERIOUS Bela Fleck and the Flecktones vibes.
This explains it. He's a fan ua-cam.com/video/XejBKKbm9JM/v-deo.html
I think the name of the band is a direct nod
Definitely has some Big Country Flecktones vibes. Love it.
Sonny T is a bad, bad man! 2:25 in particular, and all of the solos were incredible here!

I second that. Nuthin' that man can't write for.
Sonny is out here making phone calls on his bass. Legend.
He brings it every time!
Most younger gen wouldn't fully get that one.👍👍
Sierra and Sonny both slayed on this.
I love how Cory makes the stank face when Sonny plays those pentatonic natural harmonics at 1:58
He's making dial tones on the bass lol
I really wanna know how he did that, I didn't realise you could even do that on a bass
That was my made me look up, "Who just did what?!" moment of this one
This sounded totally new to me, never heard something like that before.
@@dariusduesentrieb yep, it’s a bass technique that’s pretty hard to master.
I love when Sonny grins as he clocks that Sierra did the same harmonic run as he did, to open her own solo
Never noticed that til now!! Just a beautiful sonic conversation all around here!!
Yes! this moment is truly awesome. Sierra and Sonny are having a conversation through this whole song. She's lightly riffing on what he's doing through his whole solo and vice versa. One great moment is @2:57 -- and he's right there with her @5:34.

Oh man yes I said this on one of Charles' vids that he needs to collab with Cory
At 7:20, that arrangement. Wff so great.
Yes to everything you said!
interesting idea
What do you imagine Charles Berthoud would bring to the table besides memes?
Alright, Sonny and Sierra actually made me shed a happy tear with those beautiful solos GOODNESS ME 😍
This legit happened to me!
same man, this is so joyous
Agree. Pure joy

Phenomenal
Feels like we drove off the freeway and on to a gravel road on that one. Beautiful song and a nice detour for the band.
Sierra Hull 👍👍🎼🎵 Amazing singer, songwriter and mandolin player! IMO, the best mandolin player ever!
@@Westernfish9001 I would rather listen to Sierra Hull for many reasons.
Did you forget Sam Bush her "idol"
Chris Thile gets at least a mention here. But fully agree with y’all.

I just love looking at Negah during these video's. She's having so much fun.
Nêgah is what puts the pure joy into these performances. I wish she could be more prominent.
I am in awe this young lady has so much talent. 🤩
I couldn't stop smiling throughout the whole tune, fantastic. And Sierra you're a beam of light
Same feelings here. Super uplifting
Love this! Sierra is an amazing musician and human!
One of the most joyful tunes , and everyone is enjoying it as much as us who are blessed to listen to it, thank you All
Sierra plus Corey/WongNotes = I WANT A FUNKGRASS COLLAB ALBUM! And I mean right tf now! Soooooo damn good!
3:54 *Favourite moment:* That exchange of smiles between Cory Wong and Sonny Thompson after his bass solo
Because Sierra replicates how Sonny T starts his solo in her own, good stuff!!
YES! Also, the smile on the percussionist face at 6:48 was my fav
I could hear Cory's laugh at the end, even though it wasn't in the mix.
Good job, guys!
Yeah 😊 merci Randy 👊🏽🤗

Oh man that bass solo is fantastic, this sound stage blows my mind. Sooooooo much talent all the way around

Thoroughly enjoyed, most high. The Wongnotes with Sierra, roll!!!
Made me cry. Seriously. Brought me back to the first time I heard “American Garage”
Saw this for the first time live in Boston this past winter. Highlight of the first set. This music is really special. Thank you Cory Wong et al.
Oh my goodness this is incredible. The bassing is out of this world
It is so very cool of Cory Wong to showcase these bluegrass musicians. The bluegrass world is very small.
What an incredible performance - she's ridiculously talented!
Sonny and Sierra had a conversation with music. Note how they said something, then listened... it was pure joy to watch
This is absolutely unbelievable... it's hard to fathom that a group of people have the ability to do this.
Love this song. Their new grass music is incredible.
Music is beautiful. This band reminds me of that every time I hear them play.
This and everything else I've ever from this band is some of the finest music ever created .
Clarinet guy is the unsung hero of this arrangement. Outstanding!
Sierra Hull is making the Rounds. Way to go girl.. Cory you are SMART !!!!!
Great stuff. Killer bass solo. But my absolute favorite part was watching the horn section during the mandolin solo. They were into it, no doubt.
音楽的にとても綺麗で本当に高い山の情景が浮かぶ素敵な曲です!
POPとはこうあるべき、っていう強い意思も感じちゃいます!凄いですね!
Can’t get over the wind players laying down what would typically be a fiddle part along with Sierra. That’s next level.
Holy shit this is kicking!!! Cory Wong is the best thing about music right now.
It's cool that the "fiddle part" was played by one of the winds. I think it worked really well.

Superb, loved it. I've seen Sierra many times playing mainly with bluegrass artists such as the great Molly Tuttle. She's an incredible player.
Wow!
This has a Divided Sky feel. Love it
Got some reprise within it too. So good!
Sierra Hull wins! Flawless victory! Fatality!
The combination of instruments to create such a unique timbre. Absolutely beautiful. Also, to see the joy coming from the band moved me. Thank you.
