Hello. Thank you very much for another fantastic video. It's great to see you both laughing after so much accumulated work. Working with such a good mood is a blessing. It's very difficult to do dynamics with bands whose musical repertoire you don't know and whose way of playing it you don't know either. It would be nice if the band informed us about these things. To know if they have different effects for the singers and instrumentalists in different songs. It's more work but the result would be much more professional. Have you thought about using a control surface with faders for this?. Behringer has the X-touch for its mixers without a control surface. Thanks for the videos and for your joy!
Great insight...it does seem like most musicians leave it in our hands. This can be both a positive and negative. However....to use this analogy, we don't tell them how to sing or play guitar so leave the sound to us.
I can't understand why anyone would give you static about doing an idiot check. It's been normal practice for every gig I did for decades. The amount of stuff I found that musicians, DJs, video guys and everyone else left behind is mind-blowing.
@@thesoundcouple I'm with @pileofstuff. Which is probably how he got his name... Also found piles of stuff over the years left behind and/or totally missed by its owner and on very rare occasions lost some of my own stuff but never nothing major. Most stuff found was on locations where we provided.the pa for several bands and/singers to plug into. Think the Dutch equivalent of state fairs, carnival and festivals. Short changeover times and everyone in a hurry. Recipe for losing stuff! But keep on doing your idiot checks. I will be doing mine.
This video is yet another example of how “packed with useful tips and learning opportunities” the videos from The Sound Couple are and how helpful they are to those of us who strive to improve our own professionalism in the production sphere. Tackling the kinds of problems that can occur at a gig helps us understand how important consistent trouble-shooting procedures and techniques are to the problem-solving process. Thanks to Bart and Stacy for sharing their experiences with us. We appreciate you as individuals, as a team, and as consummate professionals.
From Namibia: Following you for a while now. Enjoy it a lot. As a musician (myself and my brother in a 2-piece band) we do our own sound. A bit tricky but educating my son to do this for us in future. Anyway, we also use the X-vive units. Sound great when we practice. We are still trying to get used to in-ears so we still do wedges in our live performances. 😂 Waiting for the right gig to properly test them. Anyway, please continue what you’re doing.
Bart and Stacey...love these blogs. You even make me feel your Anxiety. When there's no signal to a channel. My wife and I were watching and I said to her, they're going to line check the the XLR 1st... just saying.. been there many of times, even had a channel go bad on the stage box once... anyways, nice gig, nice place and some beer...oh forgot, the eye candy... love you two. Hope to share a drink with you two one day... Ricky
Hello again guys! Another great vid. Yes, for quite a while on my QU-SB tablet mixer as well as my SQ-5 and SQ-6 mixers I had a button programmed as a MUTE for all AUX outputs. That way during a show, if I hear feedback I can quickly mute and unmute the wedges to isolate the feedback as to being main mix or monitor mix.
I work with several (10+) musicians that use the X-Vive 2.4 in ears. Other than distance they love them. One 12pc band has 5 members using them. I love the recharge/no batteries and minimal size.
I have my X VIVE users use an XLR cable to move the transmitter close to where they stand and spreading the XVIVEs across the stage helps eliminate cross talk. They almost always work great when I do that. I haven’t played a show yet where they didn’t work to be honest. Sometimes, users have to change to a different channel.
That mention at the end about the console mixing is my biggest gripe about the iPad, and for me our normal scene is a gospel trio and it’s no big deal but then when we go do full bands or dance shows having the physical fader in hand makes it so much nicer and makes me quicker. Even if i do have to page for the input i still feel faster and more confident. But both have their place!!
Hi Bart and Stacey , i see you working with rainy conditions. I have a drawing of what we called a pallet to put under the subs to prevent from water get into the subs to use on wet underground .where do i send it to ? It,s very easy to make you self. Greetings Jan from Holland.
@@janassink9118 Hi Jan - Yes we did! Thank you for your suggestion! That would definitely work....we just need a bigger truck (we are sensing a theme here)!
Guitarists should handle their own solos with a boost pedal on their board to raise the volume 3-5dB. As a guitarist and sound guy, I’m surprised how often this gets left to the sound guy, who’s probably busy with other things. I'd never leave my tone or solos to someone else. I also love that the bass player had an amp but not the huge ones. I'll never understand the guys the bring refrigerator sized cabs to these events. :)
I tend to agree....solo's yes if you are working with different sound engineers and I would suggest communicating that to them. Patch to patch...the levels should remain the same....you don't want to get in a battle or confuse the mix.
Do you ever have problems with those CDL cabinets clipping? I'm helping out a church that just installed 4 of the 10's and they are clipping like crazy.
We have talked about our experience throughout many of videos as this topic seems to come up. Bottom line, we don't experience this as a "problem" with either our 12's or 10p's. The clip lights are conservative on this cabinets and this is straight from PreSonus (and that's what I believe the core problem is that leads to concerns). Flashing clip is not a concern and we have never "heard" it on any of our cabinets. We push our CDL12's really hard sometimes and they handle it. The 10P's we have not used as much, but we have shown gigs that we were pushing 95db with two of them. So honestly, we are befuddled on why so many are seeing this as a "problem". Clip light flashing is ok...but if it's more than that, I don't want to say people are wrong, but either expectations are too high or some sort of gain structure is way off. For either of these portable cabinets to get as loud as they do...what more could be expected? They are both very loud cabinets in within themselves, so are they sized right for the space? I would assume a church requirements would be more on the conservative side, but I don't know the church.
Hello I need some help I've been struggling to connect my iPad universal control for a while now and there's been no headway I've updated all the firmware and they the same yet I'm unable to the Mac is connected and functional but the Ipad even after scanning it fails to find the mixer to connect please help the mixer is a studiolive 64S Thank you.
It seems like you have a network issue going on that is preventing the iPad from connecting. The PreSonus Facebook groups are a wonderful resource with users that have a lot of experience. We would highly suggest exploring those, or the PreSonus forums (forums.presonus.com), or last to submit a support ticket...but would recommend the first two options to start with.
