It's referring to demonic possession/influence. Remember "Legion" in the Bible? You're spot on Gagi! Tony Todd's presence was the best part of the original! I'm trusting Jordan Peele to understand that and utilize him properly in this film. Fingers crossed!!
To put everyone’s mind at ease about the titular character this time round. Tony Todd will be back as the original Candyman in some capacity but they're focusing more on expanding the mythos into something called The Hive so that there are multiple Candymen throughout the movie.
Welcome to the kill count where we tally the victims in all our favorite horror movies. I’m James A Janisse and today we will be looking at Candyman the 2021 reboot…….
I think everyone is getting caught up on the scene in the trailer missing the fact that the actor they show giving out candy isn’t the real actor who played candyman. I think it will serve as a plot theme to show how the story/urban legend gets twisted with time and how the truth has been forgotten making the real candyman even more mad. Just my thoughts.
He isn't just a he, he's the whole damn hive meaning he made several candymans to continue on his legacy. He made a hive of vengeful spirits under his name. He trying to reclaim Anthony again and put him under his legacy aswell
A lot of people seem to be confused. Candyman is similar to Freddy where they need people to believe in them. In the first film Helen was doing a thesis on urban legends. The thing about Urban Legends is they change constantly but keeping the similar focus. So maybe the story of the guy told was an urban legend. Also remember in the first film Helen did find a bunch of razor blades in candy that was never explained. In this film I think that’s what Anthony is also going to be is trying to find the true story. Some of you seem displeased with the police aspect and race commentary when in reality. Candyman has always had commentary on race and poverty. In the first film when they catch the fake Candyman Helen says “they’ve been looking for this guy for a while but one white woman gets hurt and they shut the entire building down to find him”. In the 2nd film the cop was majorly incompetent. In the 3rd film there was a super racist and predatory cop so this is nothing new.
We need a director’s cut asap, they left so much on the cutting floor. 1)Helen being in the movie 2)Anthony having the shakes yelling 3)Tony Todd voiceovers
@@seanpasttrip795 can’t really provoke something that’s happening in real time. Was it a little on the nose? Some can argue maybe, especially the way he was killed by the cops. The film itself sheds light to what people such as myself can go through, especially those that live in poor communities

Here's a therory on why this origin is different from the original. "Candyman ain't a he. Candyman the whole damn hive." I think this reference the fact that a lot of vengeful spirits all surround the Candyman urban legend. This movie might involve around those different spirits until eventually leading to the original Candyman. Anthony will probably become the next Candyman and thus a new part of the urban legend. Candyman is like a hive that's always growing.
Oh my goodness how many times I gotta say this to people the OG candyman’s origin is in the trailer you see him getting his hand cut off like y’all need to look at the full trailer before you go to the comments and type how mad you are about the origin
@@jadencarmon6973 the origin story was a short story. In the story, the Candyman was not a black man. His face was yellow with blue wrinkles? Something like that. There were insects but they were not bees, they were some sort of flying ant. The only urban legend referenced was candy and razors lying on the floor in the candyman's lair. It is hard to say whether or not the writer was influenced by the Chicago killer known as the Candyman. That part has been worked into the movie though, but again, it was not in the book. The book seems to focus more on urban legends. The Candyman wants Hannah to come with him so that she can live forever but not have to live. In other words, she will be talked about, her story and her disappearance will be spoken of forever, but she will not have to live or deal with life. If the stories begin to dissipate or people begin to doubt, then he returns I guess.
@@CPKerney that's where the aspect of him being a local myth comes from. No one will keep telling it the same, people will change it. Lot of us believe that angers Candyman and wants to remind everyone of his original origins and his existence through the baby he took so long ago
His shots are very distinctive, too. You can pick out a Peele movie that way just as sure as a Wes Anderson or Kubrick movie. He's got a very particular cinematic vision.
The original Candyman is the scariest movie ever! Any kid growing up in Chicago was terrified of him. We would ride through Cabrini Green quite often because you had to pass through it to reach Downtown! I’m kind of nervous to see this one 🤣🤣🤣 but I’m glad they brought back some of the same actors.

Just watched this today and this it's one of the best horror movies I've seen in recent years Also I like how it's more of a soft sequel to the first Candyman and not a full on reboot (I actually thought it was gonna be a reboot based on the trailer) But I gotta say, this movie really is something (Something great)

@@AaronTM.. what makes it even more fucked up and scarier is that if you look deeper into each of the candyman, ‘the hive’ as it’s called, you can see that some of them are based off of real life tragic events of people who actually were killed
@@charlottea.cavatica1696 It was intentional as "Candyman" deals with urban legends and the titular character is inspired by multiple urban legends, most notably the Hook (killer with a hook for a hand) and Bloody Mary (vengeful spirit called up by saying their name in a mirror).

Get Out was mild fun, entertaining fluff. 20 years ago it would have been a straight to DVD release. Peele is just in the right place at the right time with critics obsessing over racial politics and giving over the top praise for his films. Nothing against him.per se but he's yet to make a truly great film.
@Opp Kage I would definitely recommend you watch THEM on Amazon Prime. It's not Jordan Peele but it is certainly a spiritual twin. It's a ten-part series based on a black family moving into a white suburbia paradise in early 1950s LA. It has a supernatural/spiritual storyline behind it (cliche family move into new house and it's haunted) but the terrifying aspect is that the unfiltered unrelenting racism the family get beaten with is much much worse than the demonic. If you search online, Stephen King has said in interview that the first episode of this series scared the living crap out of him. If you're a fan of Candyman and Get Out and Antebellum i would definitely recommend this series. At different parts it has made me want to scream, cry, and vomit from how intense it gets.
I'm the same and I'm white. Black people don't usually freak out about ghosts, demons, etc if anything it's a rarity to see any afraid when it comes to things like that. I'll believe a black person regarding ghost encounters over anyone else and it's not even close

"Candyman ain't a he. Candyman the whole damn hive."
I think this reference the fact that a lot of vengeful spirits all surround the Candyman urban legend. This movie might involve around those different spirits until eventually leading to the original Candyman. Anthony will probably become the next Candyman and thus a new part of the urban legend.
