  • Hiking with knee pain is no fun and I suffered from it pretty often when I was getting started. Three things have helped me overcome this problem including better hiking technique, a specialized exercise program, and a hi-tech knee brace that Kneevo sent me which I review here (see below for a discount code for this product!)

Nice! I definitely had knee pain before I lost the weight I did a few years ago. Also I found that as I increased the strength in my legs through running and walking, my knees also became stronger and less painful. During the weeklong trip last year I was the only one without knee pain.

I noticed that as well. Yeah I think unless you've been injured knee pain is more of a physical fitness issue. Braces can help getting started or in emergencies, but its best to lave them behind at some point!

Thanks for the advice! I’m definitely going to check the Kneevo. I’ve got a heavy brace I bought at the drugstore, but it’s very heavy and bulky.

Great video. I couldn't agree more about Chase Mountain tips. He has helped my IT Band issues. Of course if I lost some weight, the problem would be a lot better.

Just a few days ago I descend from a steep hill too quickly and I think I injured my left knee because of that. It's really painful when using it to step down so I was limping my way back down to the car hanging onto my trekking pole, luckily it's not a permanent damage because it healed in just two days. I thank Phillips InfraRed light for that. Next time I would go slower and be more careful on top of actually train my knee support muscles.

@@BackcountryPilgrim the funny thing is there were three of us, and me and the other guy got the same knee pain at the same time, while the girl didn't. Maybe we stepped in the same wrong spot that fucked our knees.

Nice vid! And ... a question: Would this work for patellar tendonitis? I'm now 68, and I get that pain right below the kneecap where the patellar tendon connects. I need something that specifically deals with that.

Sorry, I really don't know. I'm not even sure what specifically causes mine - I just know this helped. :)

I’m 62 and have been dealing with patellar tendinitis for several years and still have it but am managing it better. First do a YT search for patellar tendinitis exercises and you’ll find similar or the same exercises being recommended. Start doing them routinely. You’ll find out that weak glutes contribute to knee pain. Who would have thought it? After exercising ice your knees. In fact ice your knees several times per day. That icepack will become your new best friend. When knees are really sore Apply Voltaren, a topical arthritis medication (available at Costco), to your knee and spend 6-8min massaging it into the knee. Knee massaging also gets blood circulating in the knee. I learned from my sports doctor that when I’m on trail and my knee hurts that I really can’t cause further damage and that you just need to manage the pain. When I’m on trail I wear a knee brace and always use trekking poles. Costco sells a really nice copper knee brace and solid lightweight trekking poles. During the day if my knee is sore I’ll stop and soak it in a cold river or lake. Usually at lunch I’ll eat my PBJ while soaking my knees. Once at camp for the night I’ll take an Aleve, soak my knees, and do some stretching exercises before bed. I do this every night while on trail. Make it part of your routine! Make sure to stretch your quads, hamstrings, and calf muscles. I’ve been amazed how the body recovers overnight and I can hike again the next day. Good luck and happy trails!
