In this video, cleaning and lubrication of your AK-47/74 rifle is discussed. We also discuss myths about the AK rifle and the refutation of falsehoods.
Brave man cleaning an AK in a white shirt.
I used to change the oil in my truck with a white dress shirt. If you value cleanliness, it's not that difficult.
@@spencerwills6012 I don't even tear the sleeve off
yea boi
Legend Confirmed
Well he does have a man bun, so.....
40,000 rounds. God bless that little Ak's heart.
Squeeze a new barrel in, and it's good to go 🤣
Take everything you see and hear with a grain of salt
Half that is typical for 5.45x39 barrels.
@SCN with American made ak's? I think not. Saigas barely.
@SCN and especially the fact that Rifle dynamics uses button rifled barrels
I drag mine behind my car in the automatic car wash.
lmao
+Jason Hatherlee One of the best ways to get your AK to rust is to apply water to it after shooting corrosive ammo. I've found it's better to let the rifle sit around after shooting corrosive than to try to clean it with water.
+multiHappyHacker funny guy
+Jason Hatherlee Post a video of that.
+Jason Hatherlee funny shit!
Thumbs up at 1:30 because "Your guns should be loaded, and if they aren't you're simply wrong!" Out-fucking-standing!

after I clean my AK, I like to kiss it goodnight and place it under my pillow.
Youl spoil her. Yell dirty bitch at her sometimes aye.
Electro My old lady hates when I kiss my rifle
I have right next to my bed so when I wake up I see the beauty of the fine ak47
Antonio Lopez mosin is fine too for komrades with low economical income. Rip ears tho
I don't like things under my pillow exept my bed. I just keep my AKMN were I can reach it easily if I wake up needing a gun.
Yes I know were all joking around.
"Necessary? No, but I do it anyway because it's sterile and I like the taste" Ha ha ha! Nicely done. You're the man.
If you can dodge a wrench you can dodge a ball 😆
I clean my AK so deeply i do every little thing inspection. Even i use earbuds to clean unreachable place cause i love my AK.
Nobody can question the valor of a man who can clean a gun wearing a white shirt. Guts of steel.. (great vid!)
"Quality wolf match grade ammo" I subscribed.
I'd still recommend using oil for the trigger group, The oil's ability to migrate back to areas where it has been displaced from by mechanical action/friction is what makes it an effective lube, even if there is a bit of run-off to non-important places.
I agree with you totally a little oil on the trigger group would benefit tremendously and a little grease on that hammer face. I am also surprised he did not clean the firing pin channel. Crud can accumulate in there and you can have a non-functioning rifle quickly. But I guess we all clean our weapons our own way.
@@stevenlefebvre2991Why would you grease the hammer face? I don’t know much about guns but I can’t see an obvious reason for that.
that smile you give us when something is funny is luminous enough to light up a cave. youve earned a sub. lifetime sub. keep being awesome man.
You're doin' the Lord's work, Reid. Keep on keepin' on.
This is really excellent, thanks! I love how you cut through all the BS that we tend to see on gun channels. Either people really believe that all the products and processes are necessary, or they simply want us to buy stuff. But your approach is a breath of fresh air, Reid.
thank you for saying your gun should be loaded, my buddy asked me why the other day .... hello? My AK, AR, Glock and my 12 gauge is ready to go at all times with my bug out bag and rig.
❤ This video is 8 yrs.old and still informative- giving, teaching, and entertaining . Thank you ❤

how to clean an AK
1: bring it out back put it in the lake swish it around and youre done
If there is no time the water is the best treatment.
Fresh water is removed acid salts, mud, sand, but the water does not wash off carbon deposits. In Afghanistan, we used fresh water, mixture of gasoline and acetone. After cleaning with compressed air purged from the automotive compressor (or from car wheel) or wiped with a cloth and ... everything. 3-5 minutes and AK ready.
Grease is almost not used.
@@ole4440 ran k's thru mine, no problemo, clean, light oil, dry. clean w/lighter fluid or water. use w/ grease in very cold weather. oil for above 32 F
New to AK rifles and I am getting addicted to the simplicity of the rifle. Add zero maintenance and all the bs voodoo with custom rifles. I use it mainly for hunting and this caliber 7.62x39 is sooo dayuum underrated it’s stupid. Thanks for the cleaning video but I brush clean my barrel due to habit.
If it didn't smell like Hoppes #9 when I'm cleaning, it's no fun at all.
Still working on the bottle from the 70s. It's got a different smell than the new stuff. Good times.
Little dash in the morning coffee and I'm ready for the day.
Royal purple oil give off the best smell
I have a zastava opap 7.62x39. I zeroed it out to 100yards using just iron sights and it seems to be consistent with good marksmanship. I think all the bad talking about the AK is just negative propaganda.
I like this guy.. He isn't trying to impress me. Great video.
I was surprised you never cleaned your barrels. I was taught one must clean its barrel and this is the most important part of the weapon maintenance. But... I noticed I'm getting better and better groups out of my Mossberg MMR and I think this is not only my skill going up but some kind of barrel upgrading. Your statement my back up this theory. I'll see. I love your channel btw. Kep it up!
So cleaning the barrel isn’t necessary? I’ve only put 60 rounds through my Zastava zpap92
1:20 Agree 100%. Unloaded guns are dangerous and prone to emitting "the most terrifying/annoying sound".
I probably overdo it after shooting corrosive ammo, I think it comes from aircraft maintenance background where corrosion control is a big deal. I use Ballistol/water emulsion, patch with uncut Ballistol and a blast from a 'steam shark', followed by normal cleaning.
Grease is not good in every situation, once it gets below 20 degrees you should switch to a motor oil or motor oil gas mix if you're going to the Arctic or sub Arctic, laugh all you want at this, but I've seen m1 garands with gi issue grease frozen shut in the lower 48 before, probably won't happen in Tennessee, but for other this is a legitimate concern. Oh and the motor oil/gas mix is what the Russians have used in winter since before WWII, just a cool side note.
+P226nut I've ran my greased AK in -30ºF and had no problems.
+Win94ae Thats frigid. I used to snowmobile in that kind of temp and metal likes to break when its stressed in those conditions.
Another reason to love the AK.
+Win94ae why were you outside in -30° F ?
+P226nut cool story bro
+Tmankiller72 Some people (myself included) actually work outside in those temperatures.
at 11:00 minutes you spoke about not cleaning the bore.
My grandpa( who was a great
shot with a rifle) would tell any of his kids who cleaned the barrel to " shoot it clean."
Bill Blakely “your grandpa was wrong!”
@@GuitaristOnDaRoof "Your grandma was wrong"
Reid, thank you so much again! I can’t help but just smile and laugh with you. Your humor and happy positive, yet serious, attitude just makes me feel good. Another great video, I keep watching because your someone I trust. Thank you for your service.

And the groups keep getting tighter ? I really like this guy but I clean barrels.

Once again great video Reid and I live in Knoxville, I'll be signing up for Pistol Craft 1 in march.
Nice man bun thanks for the info
Thanks Reid - another simple, informative video, please keep em coming! I recently switched to high temp bearing grease, and at the price, its hard to beat.

Hey Reid I'm a huge fan of yours, I was curious to see if you could do a video on AK sights.
Just subbed, great channel & content!! 👍
Mr.Hendricks, I hope you never tire of putting out good information to people
This man is brilliant, he uses Grease instead of oil and never cleans the barrel. I actually learned some stuff from this video. I used grease but I didn't know if it was okay and not cleaning the barrel makes complete sense to me.
Gotta go to Valor Ridge ASAP 🙏🏼😬
One of the things I appreciate about Reid is that he is always joking. When you know you're one of the baddest dudes on the planet...and can go to work in hurry and get some shit done... you can have the confidence to joke around and be cool to people.
Are those all original essential parts on the gun? 40k rounds with no repairs?
Yep.
"I like the taste and it's sterile!"
I lost it dude.
You've got to be the most happy go lucky leatherneck I've ever seen!! Keep it up Reid, happy Veteran's day, and you'll probably be my first stop when I can afford to take some training classes
I clean my AK by throwing it on the ground twice, if it lands in mud, I consider it lubed.
I appreciate you, Reid. Thanks for all the knowledge and perspective you share with us. God bless you.
Keep a strong heart Reid
This man started the video with a clean white shirt and ended the video with a clean white shirt. That's about the only resume you need
Thank you Reid! we love your vids! Much love from Oregon! God bless you!
Thank you for the videos... Some of the best in you tube...🙂
Is it just me or is Reid's smile luminescent? lol holy cow you've got a big smile, Reid!
+AlexNKnives I have a lot to be thankful for Alex. The more I help and give, the more rewarding and happy my life is.
Reid,
watching some of your videos convinced me it was OK to dip in the AK waters.
I just recently bought an Arsenal AK and I love it.
Can't wait to take it to the range.
I'd like to take an AK carbine class somewhere to teach me how to run mine
more efficiently.
Don't think there are any AK classes in my neck of the woods.
This is primarily AR territory.
Always keep it loaded, and have extras around. I love this guy
RIED!!!!!!! Please do another video on why you dont clean the bores!
Just saw the ending haha. That was awesome.
Hint for extreme north winters don't use red grease use a light white lithium grease but still grease (-20 degrees or further) you will have issue)
Yes sir dead on with the barrel prep and everything else you said really spot on. Loved it.
I have never put a single drop of lubricant on my AK. Hoppes #9 for cleaning but never any lubricant. My operator manual says specifically NOT to lubricate.. Runs just fine.
Like I said in my post, I always used a little oil or left a little CLP on it never an issue
I clean as little as possible but my CZ 858 bore rusts within a day after using corrosive ammo. the only solution I have found is to use it daily. I need a new one with a chrome lined barrel.
I made the mistake of not cleaning my barrel after corrosive ammo. The next time I shot I had a bullet get stuck in the pipe. Fortunately I recognized what happened before sending another through. So, I would qualify your comment about not cleaning it with the quality ammo you are using. Good vid...great channel
Good video Reid. I've never gotten to play with an AK, and know nothing about them. Should you ever get out of your relatively warm part of the country, and are taking your rifle, remember Lubriplate. Lubriplate is a white lithium grease, that remains grease even as low as -60' thru -80'F. With temperatures that low, it will thicken up a bit, however as soon as you start making friction it starts lubricating again. I used this stuff a lot when I worked up on the North Slope in Alaska. And yes I use it on my M-1A, and my M-1 Garand. I was told by an old timer that this lubricant was developed for the M-1 Garand in Europe in the winter. I know that it worked well in Alaska. Keep up the good work.
I usually just take it apart and put it through the rinse cycle in the dishwasher. Then blow dry and spray down with rem oil, lube the rails with bacon grease.... Very pleased with how it runs.
ha ha ha I caught that dodgeball reference.
I've been watching your videos since you first started your channel and even watched your old ones from Yeagers channel including you edc video with your Glock 17. I can't tell you how many times I've rewatched your videos and have watched your ak vids multiple times just because. Thanks for all the great info. CLP Semper
Great video bro. Very informative. I live in Nashville thinking about coming to check you guy out!!!!!
I'm digging the dodgeball reference. Because it's sterile and I enjoy the taste. Great video, as always. Great instructional videos for those of us that are just learning. Great stuff Reid!
dude great video, you had me cracking up!Your sarcasm levels are off the charts!

Thanks Reid! See ya on the Ridge!
I may be wrong but I spray mine out with carburetor cleaner followed by compressed air then oil. Not going to change anything as long as it keeps running.

that's why Isle of AK-47s because they're so simple to clean and put back together
Semper Fi brother! Thanks for the video!!
We used to take our rifles straight into the shower and wash them with hot water and soap. We made sure we got all the water out and proceeded to finish the process. If you shoot corrosive do the same but in your kitchen sink and remove as much of that stuff as possible. Make sure all the water is out and lube it! Semper Fi Reid!
finally some validation on how cleaning the bore is way overrated. Thanks, brother.

Love this video, theres a vibe that makes me think, the 'Bob Ross' of gun maintenance!
What about blue grease for the oppressive blue states? I will have to drive through Illinois next year and that scares the hell out of me. Also, thanks for another great PSA Reid!!! This, your AR, and your semi-auto pistol cleaning videos should be the go to instruction videos for cleaning.
+Milsurp Mike Blue mascarades as red, as in communism.
+Reid Henrichs Agreed.
+Milsurp Mike Just stay out of East St Louis and Chicago and you'll be fine.
lol! I love your comment!
+Milsurp Mike I feel for you man. Also, I always try to spend as little money in areas like that as possible. Gas up before the border, buy some sandwiches before, etc. I try to spend minimally in gun control areas. Obviously I wouldn't dream of spending money in an establishment anywhere that "bans guns on these premises." But we all need to try to expand that logic to states and cities as well.
Nice video. Interesting perspective. Thanks for making it.
i like your vids, you are very thorough and have a great personality. keep doing what you're doing. i used this to clean my dragunov tonight. thanks again bro!
