    I'd still recommend using oil for the trigger group, The oil's ability to migrate back to areas where it has been displaced from by mechanical action/friction is what makes it an effective lube, even if there is a bit of run-off to non-important places.

    • @stevenlefebvre2991
      @stevenlefebvre2991 Рік тому +5

      I agree with you totally a little oil on the trigger group would benefit tremendously and a little grease on that hammer face. I am also surprised he did not clean the firing pin channel. Crud can accumulate in there and you can have a non-functioning rifle quickly. But I guess we all clean our weapons our own way.

      If there is no time the water is the best treatment.
      Fresh water is removed acid salts, mud, sand, but the water does not wash off carbon deposits. In Afghanistan, we used fresh water, mixture of gasoline and acetone. After cleaning with compressed air purged from the automotive compressor (or from car wheel) or wiped with a cloth and ... everything. 3-5 minutes and AK ready.
      Grease is almost not used.

    1:20 Agree 100%. Unloaded guns are dangerous and prone to emitting "the most terrifying/annoying sound".
    I probably overdo it after shooting corrosive ammo, I think it comes from aircraft maintenance background where corrosion control is a big deal. I use Ballistol/water emulsion, patch with uncut Ballistol and a blast from a 'steam shark', followed by normal cleaning.

    Grease is not good in every situation, once it gets below 20 degrees you should switch to a motor oil or motor oil gas mix if you're going to the Arctic or sub Arctic, laugh all you want at this, but I've seen m1 garands with gi issue grease frozen shut in the lower 48 before, probably won't happen in Tennessee, but for other this is a legitimate concern. Oh and the motor oil/gas mix is what the Russians have used in winter since before WWII, just a cool side note.

    Good video Reid. I've never gotten to play with an AK, and know nothing about them. Should you ever get out of your relatively warm part of the country, and are taking your rifle, remember Lubriplate. Lubriplate is a white lithium grease, that remains grease even as low as -60' thru -80'F. With temperatures that low, it will thicken up a bit, however as soon as you start making friction it starts lubricating again. I used this stuff a lot when I worked up on the North Slope in Alaska. And yes I use it on my M-1A, and my M-1 Garand. I was told by an old timer that this lubricant was developed for the M-1 Garand in Europe in the winter. I know that it worked well in Alaska. Keep up the good work.

    We used to take our rifles straight into the shower and wash them with hot water and soap. We made sure we got all the water out and proceeded to finish the process. If you shoot corrosive do the same but in your kitchen sink and remove as much of that stuff as possible. Make sure all the water is out and lube it! Semper Fi Reid!

      Just bought a WASR 10/63 as well and probably lost my girlfriend in the process... totally worth it though. The WASR never talks back at least.

    What about blue grease for the oppressive blue states? I will have to drive through Illinois next year and that scares the hell out of me. Also, thanks for another great PSA Reid!!! This, your AR, and your semi-auto pistol cleaning videos should be the go to instruction videos for cleaning.

      +Milsurp Mike I feel for you man. Also, I always try to spend as little money in areas like that as possible. Gas up before the border, buy some sandwiches before, etc. I try to spend minimally in gun control areas. Obviously I wouldn't dream of spending money in an establishment anywhere that "bans guns on these premises." But we all need to try to expand that logic to states and cities as well.
