HOW DANGEROUS IS MINDANAO? (you'd be surprised)

- When i tell people i'm from the Philippines, i still get questioned about the safety of the country.
In an environment like today, safety is something that is quite hard to define on the world stage.
Most of the bad news coming out of the country and making international headlines (before talks of politics and EJKs) was about terrorism and kidnappings in Mindanao and primarily in the provinces of the Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao.
With this video, i just wanted to give you a glimpse of the culture of these provinces and say that we shouldnt let the 1% that is negative represent the 99% that is great.

Daaaamn the Philippines does have so many resemblances with Indonesia. I can never tell if a person is a Filipino/Indonesian. Both physically and culturally we are so similar. The languages too. Love from your neighboring sister!
@Kalobeast 55 actually the javanese language, one of the dialects in indonesia can also use the verb-subject-object grammatical structure like the tagalog language does.
Novinta Desweriel yes! Im a Maranao and Thats absolutely right. Filipino Muslims have more common tradition and culture to Malaysian and Indonesian than my Fellow Non-Muslim Filipino brothers.
@Kalobeast 55 well in Javanese language the VSO structure is rarely use today while the tagalog language can use both SVO & VSO grammatical order but the SVO structure is only use when speaking in a formal speech...
example:
formal(SVO)- "ako ay takot" informal(VSO)-"takot ako"
@Kalobeast 55 in tagalog language and the rest of Filipino languages, VSO is considered as informal speech which is the common grammatical structure used by people in day to day coversation... while SVO is only use in formal speach like ceremony, inauguration, public speaking, literature, songs and legal documents... So in short VSO is used by the ordinary people while the SVO is used by the intellectual soceity..
@Kalobeast 55 may I know what nationality are you ?

This is my top 1 favourite vlog ever 😍😍 not because Im from Parang, Maguindanao, just because its showcases the true color and culture of Muslim in Mindanao. Di lang puro gulo, tao rin ang mga Muslim sa Mindanao di harmful. Thank you Erwan 😉
I totally agree with you. I am a proud Mindanaoan. I may not be Muslim but like many others, I also long for peace along with our Moro brothers and sisters :)

Either way, all Filipinos I know here in US hang Moroland weapon plaques with pride.

ISLAM was already established before Ferdinand Magellan arrived in 1521 and started the Roman Catholicism.
That's why Catholicism in the Philippines massively spread in the North. Just like Indonesia, European missionary could spread the Gospel mainly in the Eastern part as Islam already embedded by majority of locals in Western part centuries before European presence.

Hai Salam from Malaysia interesting video about Muslim in the South wish to visit if the is no more conflict in the region Insyaa Allah
This is one of the best vlog episodes, from the use of graphics, the visual attention to the small cultural details and the narrative content provided focusing on what the region and country can achieve together when they celebrate their universal love of food, dance, music and other arts. The positive aspects of cultural identity, the celebration of the collective ancestry without the toxic divisive agenda of politics. Well done.
Please open a mindanao food restaurant in Manila, im tired of eating bland boring westernised food here. Educate the people of Metro Manila how cooking and eating should be like people in Indonesia, Malaysia, Thai. You are the hope of Filipino food transformation Erwan
There are Mindanao foods here in Metro Manila..
In quiapo
Totally agree, explore the culinary taste of the Mindanao archipelago.....should be a tongue twister yummy!!
Sad that the filipinos appreciate the western cultures & food more that it own cultures & food. While other asean countries are so vibrates & multicultures multicoutures multifoodies promoted worldwide, the filipinos seem dont seem to sell it owns. Dunt blame other asean citizens if they think filipinos cultures & food are what the spain & american have.
Filipinos and asean are multi of everything yet so far filipinos were lack of cultures & food promotion compare to thailand, malaysia & indonesia.

I really love this. Although I'm not from the ARMM region, it's really sad how other regions (particularly those in Luzon and Visayas) perceive Mindanao as a place full of danger and conflict. Though conflict and danger exists here, it's also true all throughout the Philippines. As someone coming from South Cotabato, I really want to thank you for making this video and show everyone the beauty and majesty of the ARMM. I hope someday soon you will visit my province as well and see another side of the rich culture here in Mindanao.
Because mindanao island people fell being outcast because of Luzon people monopolizing the country
Hi
Its most likely people from luzon...visayans dont see mindanao as a scary place
AS A PERSON BORN AND RAISED IN LALA, LANAO DEL NORTE NOW, I WITNESSED EVERYTHING AROUND ME DURING MY ADOLESCENT YEARS ALL THE HAPPENING! JUST LIKE ANY PLACE IN THE PHILIPPINES AS WELL AS AROUND THE WORLD, PEOPLE STRIVE TO.LIVE I N PEACE AND HARMONY WITH OTHER AND NATURE HAS TO OFFER? THOUGH YOU CAN SAY PRIMITIVE KIND OF LIKE ARE STILL SEEN IN SOME SPOTS OF THE ISLAND. I REMEMBER IT TAKES US TO A BUS FROM LALA TO ILIGAN CITY IN 6-8 HOURS BECAUSE OUR HIGHWAY SYSTEM IS LIKE A COBBLESTONE HIGHWAY AND THE BUS CAN RUN AT 20-30 KPH BUT STOPS SO FREQUENT TO.LOAD AND UNLOAD PASSENGERS ALONG THE WAY AND THAT MAKES IT A REAL LONG TRIP. IF YOU HAVE A BUSINESS TO ATTEND TO YOU CAN NOT MAKE A RETURN TRIP IN ONE DAY! THAT'S HOW PRIMITIVE THE TRANSPORTATION SYSTEM IN 30'S UNTIL THE LATE 50'S WHEN THE HIGHWAY WERE SLOWLY PAVED? THOSE COLORFUL RITUALS ARE HAPPENING DURING A WEDDING EVENT FOR THE ROYALS ONLY NOT THE ORDINARY MUSLIM. I WITNESSED A DATU WHO RETURN FROM A PILGRIMAGE FROM MECCA, HE WAS CARRIE BACK TO HIS PLACE RIDING A RIG SIMILAR TO A RIG THAT CARRIED THE ARK OF THE COVENANT ONLY THIS WAS ADORNED GOLD AND LOTS OF PAPER MONEY AROUND IT! ALSO, I WITNESSED WHEN I WAS IN FOURTH GRADE, THE BOMBING OF THE PHILIPPINE AIRFORCE AGAINST A CHIEFTAJN CALLED TAWANTAWAN FOR OVER 6 MONTHS ON A DAILY BASIS BUT HE WAS CONVINCED TO SURRENDER TO RAMON MAGSAYSAY WHO AT THE TIME WAS THE DEFENSE SECRETARY AND LATER BECAME PRESIDENT OF THE PHILIPPINES IN THE MID 59'S! ALSO THE KIRAM FAMILY ALWAYS STAYED AT OUR HOUSE WHEN THEY PASS OUR LOCALITY AND MY.MOTHER PERSONALLY KNEW PRINCESS TARHATA KIRAM OF THE SULTANATE OF SULU. WE HAVE MUSLIM NEIGHBORS ALL AROUND AND WE CO EXUST WITH TEM, PLAYED WITH THEM EVEN ONBOTHER SOCIAL EVENTS WITH NO PROBLEM WHATSOEVER. SO AS YOU CAN SEE MUSLIM PEOPLE ARE JUST OTHER KINDS OF PEOPLE THEY WANT TO.LIVE IN PEACE AND HARMONY!
These are the kind of vlogs I like to see....really captured the culture...really rich culture

Wow! This is short but somehow shown us a glimpse of the colorful ARMM region. Indeed, there is so much to be amazed of from the region. I would like to use this video as intro to my contemporary philippine arts class. Food making is an art, right? :) Good job, Erwan!
Salute / kudos to u Erwan , this series is very informative , educational and eye opener as well 👍👍👍
Thank you for educating us from Luzon about the rich culture of Mindanao. Born & raised in Baguio I must admit that I am ignorant of the beautiful and colorful culture of Mindanao. Kulas of Becoming Filipino was the one who introduced me to the people, food and lifestyle in Mindanao which is a shame because he is a foreigner (who embraced life in Mindanao). Rich culture of Mindanao should be taught in school as theirs is well kept unlike other communities and culture that are changed & modernized.
I'm pretty envious that you got to explore a little part of the ARMM. Growing up as a Filipino-American in the States, it was important for me to stay connected to my Filipino roots--so I took part in Filipino cultural dances. Some of my favorites originated from the Mindanao region. I would love to explore that region in the near future. On Monday, I'll be coming home to my hometown, Bulacan, and I'm excited to reconnect with my family there!

I am a Muslim, native of Maguindanao, and this video of yours is very informative and engaging to watch, I hope our other kababayans who aren't Muslims give a chance to watch this video to have atleast a little insight about our culture. In behalf of us Filipino Muslims, thank you so so much for giving us a chance to be featured in your vlogs. It's really a big thing for us to be noticed for our culture's beauty as well, we are sincerely grateful for your efforts. 🤗
As a Filipino-American with both of my parents from central/northern Luzon, I had absolutely no knowledge of this entire part of Philippine culture. I knew Muslim missionaries and peoples settled in and converted much of the southern Philippines, and I knew all of the negative and violence you hear from the news, but I didn’t know much beyond that. Thank you for showing at least a part of such a beautiful and diverse culture.
For the information of the uninformed, the Southern part of the Philippines is not Muslim majority. As a South Cotabateño and Mindanawan myself, I can say that majority of the population here are catholic Ilonggos and Cebuanos.

_there was some gross mistake at __1:03__. Most likely Arab traders with wooden ships came to this place, same to Indonesian Islands. They were not missionaries. They shared their beliefs as they are under obligation to do so. Locals liked it and embraced it too. There is no compulsion in Islam faith, sincerity is a requisite and they didn't colonize that place_

I visited Zamboanga recently for work and like a lot of people, the first thing that came to my mind is the Zamboanga siege. When I arrived I was deeply moved by the culture most especially the food! (some of which shown in the video) and of course, the people. I left feeling guilty for my negative perception, inspired because of the wonderful people I met, and hopeful because with the rise of independent content creators, more people can hear and learn about their stories and culture that is not shown in mainstream media. So thank you for shedding light on this subject and sharing their stories! Mabuhay ka!
