Hi John . I have been fiddling with my new Eutech Thermometer and have been converting C. or Centigrade to Fahrenheit. That grease has a huge range. -73 C = -99.4 Fahrenheit 121 C = 241.8 Fahrenheit
I have that book in color on knots and have had it for 15 or more years. That clamp is beautiful and looks like if starrett made one. That grease is out of this world.
Nice!! I have a place here in NJ that has a bunch of stuff from the 80s that is all NOS.... Still in the box. Last August i purchased 10 of those deep-reach C clamps. I used them that same afternoon on a special glue-up. These came in a cardboard box with an orange & black paper label. I was able to scan the label on my computer and used it to make a couple sweatshirts. One says "Get a Grip" and the other says "Still Bougie about my Tools".
The clamp came out great. The books are also neat,bit my favorite was the grease. I like the old military surplus stuff. Thanks again and see you Friday

The hair loss thing may be alopecia. My brother in law has it. It can be nerves or autoimmune system. And yes it took some getting used to him without hair. He sees it as a positive as he doesn't have to shave! Great job on the clamp

What a beautiful clamp, we made nothing like that in Australia but I have a pair of US made C clamps similar to yours that I find quite attractive. They’re a very underrated tool in the workshop. I remember growing up my father had that same grease, he had gotten when he was in the National Guard, he kept it in his firearms cabinet! I’m pretty sure he still has it!
Noticed the elasticated toggle on your mystery box. Can’t tell you how useful these are for affixing anything to awning poles. Use them all the time when camping!
I love clamps too and I'm sure I also have about 50. The clamp is an absolute home run. I have a smaller one but I will be looking for a larger one like yours.
I have vintage Jorgenson bar clamps and like them. They slide very smoothly. I've never seen a C clamp like yours. Very graceful looking. Your cleanup is very appropriate to the tool. I like the older thumbscrew vs. the rods. Thumbscrew spotting is how I spot vintage clamps at a glance. It has never occurred to me that broken thumbscrews were due to someone putting a wrench on the tool. Jorgenson is now Chinese owned.
Well John, you do like to mix it up, I was never expecting you to start by talking about eyebrows, it just shows what a "high brow" show you have ! That C clamp is awesome, as was the restoration never seen one like that before, I love the raw finish too ! I have that exact book on knots and rope work, and I bought it because I liked the colour having always used my Dad's book from when he was at sea school but found the pictures hard to follow !
love C clamps, G clamps! never seen one this shape before in this size. I have a small one thats 1" ir 1.5" in size by Pony maybe, will have to dig it out but its a true C shape like this. And just wow with the rest you did! amazing how it turned out 100 x better looking from factory finish!

Great video👍 That Jorgensen 176 C-clamp 🗜turned out fantastic! After seeing the restoration project,There was so many twists with that clamp 🗜 that my eyebrows fell out 😂😂👍. Speaking of twists, that was a great idea to put the C-clamp in the vise and take two metal crowbars , couple clamps 🗜 🗜 to hold the crowbars to the big C-clamp and just pull on the crowbars to get that twist out of the big C-clamp ,fantastic job!👍👍I can see if you are learning about tying knots 🪢 that the colored version of the book 📖 is more easier to see and understand better than the black and white version. Some electrical ⚡️ books 📚 also do that for the reader to understand the illustration of the electrical diagrams on the page or how to illustrations. It look like that military gear ⚙️ grease had a good smell 👃 to it 😂😂👍. That is supposed to be a great lubricant for airplane components that undergo a lot environmental conditions , it’s like a SuperLube for Airplanes ✈️. I like how you highlighted the lines of the Jorgensen C-clamp 🗜and made the lettering come out on the clamp. I also like how that shellac makes that bare metal and original finish pop,awesome job!👍. Great video today John and I really love that clamp. Hey, just a suggestion. I am diving into the world of shellac and it might be a good topic to explain the different cuts and colors. I’m even starting to mix my own, which is really kind of fun and the results are fantastic.
Shellac flakes are great because they have a long shelf life! Plus you can cut them in many different strengths. The Bulls Eye Shellac is a great product for the average homeowner. 😃👍
You can chase your tail on that- The only way to straighten the threads properly is to remove it from the clamp and that means removing the swivel pad- 🫣😂👍
That's a proper C clamp, I'll have to stop calling my G clamps C clamps now. I've never been blessed with proper eyebrows, I keep hoping that they'll grow but the only extra hair I get is in my ears and on my back, nature can be so cruel sometimes 😂. Great video👍🏻

In reference to the Mona Lisa, I was visiting the Prado Museum in Madrid and discovered on display their own version of the Mona Lisa (apparently the earliest studio copy) that clearly depicts her eyebrows and veil. Eyebrows... I once had my eyebrow shaved off when I was drunk (when I used to drink) and it looks so weird. Problem was it was 1 week before I got married. Had to wear eyebrow pencil. Hahaha

Dino- I have a nice blasting cabinet but the small imperfections from the blasting media always promoted rust for me. I stopped using it 15 years ago! 😃👍
Honestly I didn’t expect it to be so smooth and slippery, it will have many applications in my shop because for me regular grease is too tacky and thick most times. 😃👍
There is a very slight bend however to fix it straight you have to remove the swivel pad and unscrew the shaft and go to the press, otherwise you chase your tail.
If the clamp is sprung the swivel pad will be forward of the resting pad. Many clamps from years ago did not fully seat when empty- I have clamps that have a 4” gap- 😃👍

That grease might work well on ratchets.
