I just purchased a 12 rifle Winchester safe. I along with the floor personnel inspected the entire safe together. We tested the digital pad, and made sure both backup keys were # correctly, then tried each key to make sure the safe operated properly. And with great success; so I purchased that specific safe. Very happy with my purchase!.
I was thinking your issue was with the batteries you were possibly using, but holy cow a faulty solder job was the culprit. Definitely something to look out for. Thanks for posting.
TRY THIS FIRST, The top 2 rows on my key pad quit beeping but the bottom 2 rows beeped, I was locked out until I tried a solution from a genius, push the tab on the bottom of the keypad and twist to the left to remove, remove the battery and press 0 for ten seconds replace the battery and the key pad worked again.
I had Exactly the same problem. And this worked PERFECTLY! Take battery out. Hold 0 for 10 seconds. Put battery back in. Done! 100% fixed! Thank you very much for sharing your comment!
Exact same issue on my safe. Tried your solution before attempting to waste my time with Winchester and it WORKED on my first attempt!! Thank you so much for the post!! Any idea why/what is causing this to happen?
Guys, do it right... Replace the electronic lock with a spin dial. Every time I wanted in my 12-year-old Winchester safe, I wondered if it would open. Got TIRED of that, so I ordered a Sargent and Greenleaf spin dial. Easy to replace, and now I KNOW it’s going to open. Threw my electronic lock in the trash.
I purchased a Winchester safe in 2014 and immediately had a problem with the electronic lock. They basically told me to go f*** myself. I gave the safe to my nephew and he was able to do something with it. I bought a Liberty Safe and about a year later I had a problem with the S&G dial lock that was binding. Liberty apologized and had a locksmith at my house the very next morning. He replaced the lock and never charged me a penny. Liberty called me back to ask if I was satisfied with the service. They told me that if I ever had a problem again that I shouldn't hesitate to call. There's the difference between Liberty and Winchester. Spend the extra money and get a liberty.
Thank you, thank you, thank you. I just had the same issue and could not get anyone at Winchester Safes to even answer their phone. You video solved my problem.
Amen Rick. IF a mechanical lock has problems (rare) the dialing procedure can be modified to compensate for most problems. When digital locks fail it's very rare; other than replacing the keypad, to be able to do much of a repair. There are tools now that good safe technicians can get that might help open the better quality Sargent or LaGard locks. Good Luck. E Merrill Cert.Prof. Locksmith.
Mine is affected by static electricity so I have to discharge my body before I touch the safe if I don’t I have to pull the battery off press any button on the keypad to drain voltage reconnect the battery then insert the code works every time. Thanks for your video. Also my door lever has become very stiff it looks like I’ll be pulling the cover off the back of the door.
Someone sticky this to the top. Yeah only half my safes buttons worked. Did what this guy did. Take battery out. Push your buttons with it out for a minute. Insert battery. Walla!!! It works!!!!
This is why I always check youtube and read the comments. Thanks so much man, exact same thing worked on mine. Buttons 1-6 were dead, tried this trick, everything worked perfectly again. Really appreciate it...
The new model of this Winchester safe comes with a key backup. If the keypad malfunctions, now you can use the key to get the safe open. Can't rely on electronics on a gun safe.
I just bought mine, got it home and had this keypad issue before I could open it up and get my keys. 😂👍I was pissed until I found this video because Winchester doesnt answer their phones or email.
These safes are now on clearance at TSC because they're crap. I almost got one of these but opted for the larger model that does have a key override. BUT it's a barrel lock. I'm seriously considering opening mine to see if I can replace the manual lock with a laser-cut key, since you can probably open the barrel lock with a bic pen (I have not tried it yet. If I do, I'll update this comment).
They make "ribbon crimp connectors" that would be useful in this situation. You'd just cut the ribbon cable in half, put a male connector on one end and a female connector on the other, then you could easily connect the new keypad. Just make sure the break is close to the keypad and make sure the connector doesn't go through the hole in the door. Also have to make sure the pitch is right (looks kind of like it would take a 2mm pitch connector, but I could be wrong). But yeah, checking the circuit board for stuff that's obviously broken and can be easily fixed is a good first step.
Cool thing you were able to fix it, I would however be careful how you let the electronic components smack around on that hardened steel door like that, ..don't want to get another issue started..thats 4 sure.
I watched this end cringed each time and scrolled down the comments to see who else actually cared more about the part then this guy who said many times in his own video how bad it would be if the circuit board was damaged. Not to self.... Do as I say not as I do.
I have the same problem. That is a low forward voltage diode. Someone tried to break into mine. Like you I hope the cable is not damaged. I will try to reflow the part. If that don't work,,replace the diode. The way it's made and you pointed out so well ,,,.If the ribbon cable that is solderied directly into the board is damaged,,,, can't get it on my bench for a much easier repair. Thank you for the video.Only video I found that may very well fix my problem.
6 yeat old winchester with chrome lA GARD sometimes works I plan to switch to a manual lock,as stated winchester service sux, recording to email not much help
So before I watched your vid I did exactly what you said about distractions and made a goof. Now my mechanism and safety is sitting beside me on my work bench and the door is locked. Any suggestions??
I'm in the same situation. My father in law passed away and his will is thought to be in it. I seen a video using a magnetic and im trying to find a strong magnet to see if i can save hundreds compared to a locksmith. Let me know if you find a way in it without a locksmith, please
Omg mine was the wire. It arrived and when I opened the package it was stripped therefore im stuck with that? How come they have a replacement kit on Amazon then?
so my battery died in my Winchester 24 gun safe. Replaced old battery out with a new one and the passcode will not work or reset..... What do I do now?
What was your original problem with the keypad? I have the same safe and the top two rows of numbers don't work. I tried the hair dryer tip but it didn't work.
Ok I want to further the help here. IF you get a single digit..two..that wont press preventing you from putting in your combination...use MINIMAL heat. I used a hair dryer...lol..inside and out..and that 6 that wouldnt register at ALL...did. unfortunately I have to leave it open or reset. Tip: DONT even lightly clean this digital pad with lysol. Itll make the keypad useless and Winchester will Not help you!!
Only a company of idiots would sell a safe with a digital keypad and not have a skeleton key backup to open it manually-I hope they provide that option on their new safes. A sad representation from Winchester to say the least.
there’s no backup key port with skeleton key that’s crazy I have a sentry that had same problem there’s a backup key port tho I’m going combination from now on
Just popping in to say that Winchester safes are still shit. My keypad went out about two months after purchase. Luckily I have a key backup. They are better than nothing though, so if you must get one, make sure to get one with a key backup.
Also can u help me because my second keypad that they replaced or sent the locksmith to has taken a shot problem is it took a shit while changing the combo
I have the same problem. I cant get into my safe. And I cant get customer support to even return calls or even answer my emails that I have continued to resend. I cant even get to the point of even speaking to any one for help. My weapons are locked up. I need to open this thing. I lost the code to get in there. Have any words of wisdom?
#winchester sucks! I've had my safe for 6 months and the keypad is broken, tried buying 2 different types of battery and nothing. Horrible customer service, the worst! Lol. I'll never buy this garbage again.
I thought my Winchester ts 26 45 was a good by but the keypad only works sometimes. I have to use the key most of the time and no it's not the battery its piss poor workmanship

The keypads on these safes are junk. I have been through 4 of them in the past 5 years. Just bought a Liberty 30 gun safe with a mechanical dial. Never will by a winchester safe again.
I have had one short out and a locksmith took about an hour getting into it.The problem was in the door and he had to trip the latch that holds the locking mechanism with a freaking coat hanger after he found it with a mini digital snake camera . I have had it broken into since, loosing medication and a Springfield XDS.9mm . I was told by my son that he had gotten into it with a freaking Magnet.Avoid these safes. They look like they are quality, but they are apparently favorites of convicts.
My battery went low in voltage and corrosion developed on the circuit board. My key pad didnt work correctly. I will have to order a new key pad My suggestion is to change out the battery frequently like every six months or more especially if you open your safe frequently I will also be rapping my battery with a plastic wrap that we use in wrapping food in the kitchen to prevent this from happening again. Suggest all safe owners with a keypad to do the same. I dont know how much the new key pad will cost at this time.

I like that you keep letting it go and bang on the safe to test the solder connection I counted five times it banged off the door

Agree. I wanted a new keypad and was told to provide a receipt. No point in registration of product online.

Believe it or not , pull the keypad off and set it in the oven for 10 mins at 170 and it’ll fix the keypad issues . Mine works great now
That seems like more luck than a good idea lol. Solder usually doesn't melt at a temp that low but some plastics can so I wouldn't recommend that.
