  • This was just a very amateur set-up filming on my digital camera. As the Crystal Palace and relay transmitters had digital switch-over stage 1 of 2 which I can't receive from my area, for nostalgic reasons I recorded ITV1 London Tonight news programme from satellite onto my DVD/VCR combi recorder. I then played this back on my TV and recorded that on my camera at the same time.

if people were asleep and still had analogue TV the night the switchover And were confused why there are no channels when they turned on the tv there should of Been a screen saying this “The Digital Switchover has concluded. Only analogue viewers will see this message please switch to digital to continue.”

The whole point of Digital Switch-over was to switch off analogue TV signals and replace them with digital ones. So you couldn't have kept any analogue signal on air to display a switchover message as the signal would have been utilised for one of the new digital signals by Crystal Palace or one of their relay transmitters.
On the morning of 4th April 2012 (stage 1), viewers that only receive Crystal Palace or one of its relays in analogue, all they would've noticed is that they can no longer receive BBC2 in analogue anymore. They then had 2 weeks to either get a freeview set-top box, replace their TV or get satellite or cable if they wished to continue watching TV. If they still hadn't done anything by the end of 17th April to get digital then when they woke up on 18th April (stage 2) and put the TV on, they then would've found they can no longer receive any TV channels as BBC1, ITV, Channel 4 and Channel 5 would also have switched off their analogue signals.
And besides, prior to stage 1, residents that receive the London region should've received a leaflet to their home many weeks or months in advance advising them of the changes from analogue to digital TV reception in their area and what they need to do to continue viewing from 18th April 2012.

That was not possible; the entire purpose of the switchover was to unplug all analogue output. If they wanted to, they would've had to kept it plugged in.

@@danieldoes1 What he proposed is possible and was done in the US. It was called the "analog nightlight," one analog station per market stayed on for several weeks playing only a repeating loop about how to buy a converter box and who to call for help, in the highly unlikely event that you missed all the news. You can find videos of the analog nightlight on UA-cam.

What on earth are you on about? The CBBC channel and the CBeebies channel have both been Digital channels since they launched. You make it sound like they are analogue-transmitted channels which they are not.
