    Messing with expensive, messy, and quick to expire live bait for Walleye can be avoided by using soft plastics. In this video I cover some of my favorite plastic baits for Walleye and tips for improving your odds when fishing with plastics.

    What part of the Columbia are you fishing, if I can ask

  • @bruced1429

    I have not fished walleye in a few years maybe I should . The walleye in our part of the Columbia from the border to Castlegar has some really big walleye I have seen 8 lbs caught at were the Kootenay and Columbia join at Castlegar. Most of the guys fish there in late August. There is a limit of 16 and 2 day possession of 32. In our partof BC they are considered invasive species so thye want you to catch as many as possible. On another note I just came back from my Cariboo kokanee trip and it was fantasic. Average weight was 3 1/2 lbs that I caught and I got one at 4 1/2 lbs. These were weighed at the resort not by me. I took home my limit. I am not sure if you ever fished this Cariboo lake, you have talked about Deka,Bridge,Sulporous, Horse but never Ruth. It is stocked each year with 20,000 diploid kokanee. They fight better than rainbow. You must pay attention to the sol-lunar tables to have any success on the lake other wise you just get rainbows.

      @spiltmilt  8 днів тому +1

      Yes they are considered invasive here and many folks operate under the delusion that wiping them out will somehow restore salmon runs. The truth is they are one of the best tasting inland fish and I'd rather have them than mushy hatchery raised trout.
      As for the Cariboo I'm headed back soon with Ruth, Horse, and Bridge in my sights this year if the weather plays nice.

      @@spiltmilt Tyler, when you go to Ruth , fish 25 ft down in 40 feet water, use pink hoochie on 10 in leader to dogger. fish at the north end either troll a box start just north of the last island go straight to the north shore till you hit the 40 ft depth turn west follow the 40 ft contour then angle south east keeping the shoal which is 150 ft from sore to your right , angle towards the tip of the island take a heading to the white rock on the east shoreline .When even with the tip of the island turn north again and repeat. Good luck.

    Is the river above Bridgeport good for walleye ? Maybe a chance to combine sockeye trip with Walleye fishing ?

    Hey I was just wondering if you had any inside scoop on what is going on with Merwin this summer. Heard from another fisherman about an oxygen event and was just trying to know more or how much it will impact the resevoir. thanks

    • @spiltmilt
      @spiltmilt  7 днів тому

      The only scoop I know is that the fishing there sucks. I haven't heard a reasonably good explanation from anyone.

    Related to your last video on the sockeye run, will you be putting out a video on when and where to go for Brewster/Wenatchee sockeye? I'm about 4 hours drive from either one and would hate to come up empty handed.

    Do stinger hooks work in your area? Also, at those depths, do you have issues with their bladders when releasing?

    • @spiltmilt
      @spiltmilt  3 дні тому +1

      Yes stingers work and yes I generally harvest all fish brought up from deeper than 40' because of the bladder issues.
