Indeed this is a good video. I bought a machine an Omron 7121 and did it my self. I was often getting results like 160-170 / 90-110. Anyway I went to the Doctor a few days later and to cut a long story short I’m 130 / 90. Doctor did the manual technique. I’m 176cm, 74kg and 65 yrs of age. And there’s no way I have masked hypertension. Cheers NZ.
What is the proper arm positioning for measuring BP? I get 2 different measurements very consistently, depending on my arm position. Whilst sitting up straight, it is generally around the 120/80 if I rest my arm on the side of the couch, but if I drop my arm in a relaxed position parallel to my torso, it will rise 10 points or more on each end.
With the arm dangling down the blood flow will be assisted by gravity and have an easier time overcoming the cuff pressure. Easier=quicker return of pulse=higher reading. Test the theory by holding your arm straight up. Result should be lower. The goal is to take away the influence of gravity. The arm should be parallel to the floor and supported. "Heart level" has never been a useful term for me.
My textbook has a section that says: forearm BP measurements cannot be substituted for upper arm blood pressure measurements and be considered accurate. Foundations and Adult Health Nursing Cooper Gosnell chapter 12

“sphyg-moma-NOM-eter” is how I pronounce it. 🙈
Some say the last sound is diastolic and some say the no sound (phase 5) is diastolic
