I do miss the lil trackball on Blackberry's
It was revolutionary back in the day.
Trackpads rule! The Keyone I'm on now has a touch-capable keyboard, but it's not as awesome as an actual trackpad. Physical answer/phone and hangup/end buttons were awesome, too. And the menu button. Doesn't make sense in modern android/iOS world, but I'd argue that it's better to have menus right there. Like right clicking.
Isn't it weird that BlackBerry was the "iphone" of its time, and to just get completely blown out the game by ios and Android is crazy
They blew themselves out
They were revolutionary back in the day. They did email at a time when it was analog mobile with a pager network. But phones evolved to so much more. It wasn't the keyboard that killed them though.

The whole ordeal wasn't a 'fair fight.' Sure, blackberry/ Rim had internal conflicts as a company, but the world as a whole waging a holocaust on physical keyboards? That was nasty and unfounded. You're correct, that BB was at the top, bringing smartphones to the masses before the apps, networks and datamining were even a thing... BB was connecting people and putting powerful tools in their hand/pocket. Sure, phones are super powerful now, but, they're devices used mainly for passive consumption, like sitting down and flipping through channels of a TV. And while, people are free to do that with their widescreen glass slabs, we _also_ deserve a choice, to have devices that aid in capabilities. Like typing accurately without real-time autocorrect and a million background processes, all to detect virtual key strokes. Now with new qwerty nostalgia, people forget that _every_ company had physical qwerty phones, yet Blackberry get singled out as being the weirdo. Physical keyboards _are_ in demand. It's not for everybody, but it should be available.

Yeah me too but LG was my favorite.. they were so innovative with some great new phone ideas.. The phone market is kind of bland nowadays

Yes, it's important to remember, that BB was far from alone in creating many models of physical keyboard phones. It was the norm. And it's unjustifiable to bring about their complete erasure from the market. Minimal Phone, Planet Astro, maybe Xeta One, and rip OnwardMobility. And the millions around the world, still using legacy and BB10 devices, and Key devices (like myself, presently typing on a keyone on T-Mobile) can say with confidence that this simple idea, is not ridiculous or absurd. It's a matter of choice and principle. Of freedom in technology - something iPhone/apple (and many Corps and Execs) do not believe in!

I still use my BB passport, it's my smartphone detox and I would say the best basic phone to use. People tell me how cute my phone is whenever they see my BB Passport 🥰
It's truly amazing back in the day when it was candy bar phones then flip phones.

I dropped my Smasung from like, 0.5 feet and the screen connector disconnected. I swapped the sim to an older phone I had, the BB Key 2 from 2018, hence why I am watching this video.
Honestly, its going A LOT better than I thought. The plan was to use it as a placeholder since I need 2fa for my work and then replace it with a new Google Pixel 8 pro. It's been over a week and I haven't gone in to get a new phone. Besides running an outdated OS 8.1, it seems to handle all of the tasks I need just fine, albeit occasionally a little delay.
That being said, its still great for emails (need to download the Outlook Lite version, it doesn't support the new, full-build), Android Auto, Spotify, OK photos, Chat GPT, texts/calls. The only thing I need to be careful with are rogue/phishing attempts. I think the phone continued to get some security updates over the years, but I don't know how protected I would be opening a sketchy Google Drive link...

You can still use the phone and WiFi. But no more support for BB so you're stuck. You can get a priv or key 2.
Bb10 phones were ahead of their time. OS was very limited due to security and privacy. But even presidents and world leaders used these phones.
I will never love another phone like I did my red Blackberry Pearl. Would love to toss my expensive Samsungs in the trash if I could just have a 2007/2008 Blackberry Curve again. 😢

I used my Z30 for 8 years until Verizon cutoff 4G LTE service, I hate apple and the all the ad's, the spying, and now after useless updates that break the phone and change all kinds of things for no reason I'm at my breaking point. I'm going to get a near 11 year old Z30, refurb it, and use a VOIP app to continue using. Thats what people are willing to go through due to how good blackberry was and how terrible everything else has become

I'm aware of most of the history from other documentaries and well researched news articles... I may watch it sometime, since the hype has died down. Thanks for the mention. It was nice though, to have many people IRL see the film, then reach out to me, directly. I have that reputation in my jobs and circles, as 'the blackberry guy'. Haha. Still on one,.. @@crayzmarc It's the Clicks Case. Unfortunately, I'm a little iPhone phobic. Friend that's present said "that's an understatement." Fine, I kinda hate iPhones, Apple, etc. I'm on team Wozniak,.. I still love Rainbow Macintosh days and my Mac iiCi. If Clicks had some android options, I'd consider it. But, I literally have the experience on a Keyone, everyday of my life, so, haha. Would love updated specs and security, though!
I remember when they announced they were coming out with a new phone in 21 or 22 . I was so excired . I forget who it was that was taking on the project . A company in Texas . Then covid happened and got shelfed. So sad. I clung hard to my Blackberry Motion until last year and it worked just fine but the battery would run out quick sadly. Not that long ago Blackberry sent us a end of life notice for Blackberry Enterprise 😢☹️. What a sad day ( November 1st 2024ad) an era comes to end. I wish they'd make phones again. I'm just so brand loyal.

Stopped using a blackberry prob 5 years ago. My key one took a dump and I went to the classic which to me is the perfect phone but I needed apps for work and bb10 didn’t support the apps and was forced to get a different phone.
Key 2 has up to Android 10 I think so that's your best bet. But no more updates.

Considering getting the Key 2 or Key 2 LE, i love the keyboard on them. But just wondering how it will hold up app wise, do you think apps like snapchat, instagram etc will still run on it?
The Key 2 LE doesn't have the trackpad keyboard so if that's important to you then you need to get the Key 2. Instagram works okay but I can't say about Snapchat as I don't have it.
No more updates. I think the last Android is 9 or 10 so if you need apps you'll be stuck.
Typing this comment from my BlackBerry Key 2 and can confirm most apps still work on the phone. I use my Snapchat, IG, Slack, and PayPal, Gmail, etc on this with no hiccups. The app that doesn't work anymore is the Chase banking app. I use the browser and it works from there to access my account. No big deal. I don't use this as my daily driver but from time to time I'll pop my Sim in it to use for a couple days since the keyboard experience is unique

If i buy a Blackberry Key 2 LE today, and i do the factory reser. Will i have no problems with certain apps or does the phone not work? I mean, it is android and not BB OS?
The Keyone, Key2LE, and Key2 run Android software (7 or 8), so you won't have any os issues. Depending on where you live, service providers like atnt might block sim services, but I'm pretty sure that's only a problem in this US and with certain carriers. Also, since these phones are a few years old, the one you find will likely need a battery replacement.
Other than that, you're golden. The Key2LE doesn't have the capacitive keyboard tho, so you're losing that feature. The Key2 and KeyOne have it. They're kind of your only keyboard options these days other than the Uniherts Titan devices, all of which are worth considering too.

You should not hesitate to buy an android 8 Blackberry phone today. You can absolutely get service. Data will be 4G LTE, etc, and you may have to research in your area about who will still provide the service, depending on the specific phone IMEI, carrier locked status, etc. I've been using a Keyone Black since 2018. First on AT&T, but they kicked me off of their network when Blackberry shut down their enterprise servers. Been on T-mobile happily since. The physical keyboard community _needs_ more people willing to sacrifice a little data speed and security, and app convenience, to drum-up the numbers and prove that there is demand for a new updated phone.

Used Key2s are about $250-300. New units may be way more expensive. While a bit slower, the KeyOne is less expensive.
I bought a used one in great condition in late 2020 and they've only gotten more expensive since then. Keeping mine until it stops working. So far only replaced the battery
