The steam deck is essentially my dream console as a kid. games from pc runs on it, games from other consoles runs on it (to a certain extent), saves from pc games sync to both and is portable! Wild to see how much the tech industry is pushing with the format but I hope to see some fierce competition through the following years
Can’t recommend the steam deck enough. My first PC handheld and it was a perfect experience. Even navigating the desktop isn’t a pain like how it is on windows handhelds because you have two trackpads
It really is a great easy to use situation. Windows was rough specially without a mouse and keyboard hooked up to it but I own a pc already so why would I wanna do that? Steam deck is legit the best handheld around
So I've owned an unhealthy amount of these guys, and my favorites for each price point are the H700 handhelds from Anbernic (RG35XX+, H, SP, 2024, 40XXH) on the cheaper end, Retroid Pocket 4 Pro for the midrange (my current daily driver), and the ROG Ally for the ballers out there with a decent chunk of change to spend. Overall, whatever handheld you think is best for you, is almost certainly perfect for what you wanna use it for. This is honestly one of my favorite hobbies.
Literally can’t go wrong with the Steam deck since it sets the gold standard of what makes a decent pc handheld. But it’s plenty interesting and exciting to see What the windows based handhelds can do in terms of power. My preference will remain to be the steam deck maybe until the steamdeck 2 arrives since it gets soooo much right about what a pc handheld should be. Feels kinda pointless to upgrade to the newest shiny thing that’ll be outdated within months.
the thing about steam deck, you can seamlessly switch games like from PC games to retro games, like after session of Elden Ring or FH4, you can just exit the game, and go straight to retro games that you have set up like The Warriors for ps2 or something, granted so many tidbits you need to do, but it's all worth it also you can do an long series of gaming like, playing all Armored Core series, or Ace Combat series in one device it's insane really
I think the retroid pocket 2S is the best "budget" android starter handheld because of the price and controls. You kinda need to turn on runahead to get retroarch to feel snappy though. In the ultra budget category, I think that the new Anbernic xx line is amazing, too. (Flip, 28xx,40xx,etc...) In the super ultra budget category, we have the r36S.
Always consider your hand size, eye strength, all sorts of button preference and preferred era of retro games. The earlier the era of gaming cap the cheaper and easier to run it will be when considering a device. Sound, fn button and save states are also things to think about as well as screen.
Got a second hand steam deck and the thing is bulky, still amazing though, pc and steam deck combo is all you need to play almost all games, add an android phone and a telescopic controller if you want something smaller than the steam deck
I can agree I do enjoy the steam deck as an all around emulator for console and pc games, but I don't see anybody talking much about handheld console emulators here! I've been using a modded 3ds xl as a Nintendo only handheld from 3ds games all the way to the NES and SNES here and its pretty easy to mod too, alongside a psp or vita for playstation games too. Can honestly recommend them as they really are pocket sized go to devices for any emulator if the budget's tight here at least :)
I have an unpatched switch running android (emulators and moonlight over a crappy lan connection, yay) as I can't afford a steam deck. Runs fine, but only as I haven't experienced any better.
literally anything he mentioned. Good options would be a anbernic cube, retroid pocket, a ds lite, or even just your phone. The most cost effective option would likely be a ds lite but it'll take some work looking around ebay/mercari to get what you want.
@@JerryMeehanJr idk? It was very old when my brother and cousin played it on the pc when I was 6, and yet I still have a glimpse of what it looks like.
Sorry, but "android" as "ugly step cousin of Apple" is triggered me. I value your opinion, but for me it's quite the opposite, so I will not continue watching this vid. But quality of content seems good, so keep it up!

Between the steam deck and the rog ally which has a wider game range
Probably the ally because you aren’t restricted by steam
My man must love the steam deck and rog ally

ive only had my steam deck for about a week, but since it runs wii games and i beat mysims Agents so i can't recommend it enough lol
bruh, these new phones can emulate way more than ps1. we've emulating ps2 and switch games on modern cell phones.
I'm more of an Ant Bully for GBA kinda guy. What do i get? (Btw that game is like a minish cap ripoff so it's actually kinda fun lol)

Hey Jerry, do you remember a certain fps horror game where you have to fight a giant snake or fight a monster in a maze?
