- We heard that over in the United States, Walmart sells everything. So, when we were in Kona for the Ironman World Championships, we had an idea! Could we do a triathlon on cheap bikes and kit bought from Walmart? Well, there was only one way to find out... This is what happened!

What’s funny is that’s basically what I train in as far as the swim suit and t shirt goes. I don’t know how they run in those budget shoes though, they scream joint pain.

I've broken a pedal off my mountain bike. Had tp pedal out with one pedal. its possible but hard!, just have to smash the one pedal you have and the the other foot you hook the toes behind the crank arm and help get it over

Would a real triathlon allow this equipment for entry?
Yes. Only e-bikes are not allowed (and TT bikes in draft-legal races)
Take that bike back for a refund! I'm sure it's still in it's warranty period
Bruh, these challenges just show how incredibly strong and resilient you lot are cos I can’t imagine myself riding any distance longer than 5km out’n’back on those Walmart bikes let alone a tow and running in those shoes , maybe after I book a total knee arthroplasty. Great work.

You are nuts! I worry about injury too much to try something like this. But I enjoy seeing how much you have fun in these challenges. It's an important note when you're training for an event. Make sure you're having fun!!

I see that you guys went with the bike that inspired the creation of Kristian Blummenfelt's bike.
Yes. Looks fun. There should be points for how cheap you can actually get to the start line. Point could be converted to minutes withdrawn from your finish time according to some ranking system. Bikes and helmets could be donated to some charity following the triathlon.

@@gtn Yes, and to make it more relaxing, the swimming, biking, and running lasted certain times, not distances. Time depends on how long are you planning to stay on a beach. If half time U-turn is missed, it's fine, may be even better... with less chances to get an extra ice cream before coming back to dwelling or to a lunch place.

Walmart isn’t anything to write home about, but it is a little disappointing that they had such a small selection when you were there. Usually there are many more options of mediocre stuff to choose from. Next time you’re in the states on the mainland, maybe you can try again?
