    Your drive towards music and constant uploads makes me so happy man. I don’t play as much as I would like I’m recent times cause I’m in transition of moving, I have two rents and two other mouths to feed but times will change. That’s beside the point. We played online chess and that’s how I found out who you are because of your pic of you and your banjo. You videos have come a very long way since then and I hope you stick with it cause you’re extremely talented. Keep on keepin on man. Cheers

      Man, thank you so much. I had no idea that you found me from chess, that's so cool. I'm trying hard to grow the channel and build a big community here, and consistent uploads are the key to that. I really enjoy what I'm doing so doing it often is no problem, it's awesome.

    Sound and ease of playing are the upsides. Comfort is the downside. Metal is less forgiving than plastic if the fit isn't perfect.

      Yeah, I personally found comfort to be the upside, mine does fit my thumb really well though.

    You finally got one! Yeah, I held back on buying one for a long time because of the price. When Banjo Ben had a Thanksgiving sale, I finally bit the bullet and bought one for $30 or $35 (I can’t remember). Nice video!

    Never thought about them making thumb picks! I had someone send me one for mandolin or guitar. Same experience, I don’t think it’s necessarily worth it. Now I can say this, I had someone give me a real tortoise pick for mando. WOWZERS !! I love it. But you can’t get those anymore.

    Your right. But It is worth to have one at 40 bucks. I saw the difference and how all the picks worked even with volume. That is something. But I guess it could be 65 if you buy 2. Or offered with Sammy Shelor. That's a combo.

    So agree Mason. I have had a couple of their flatpicks. I don't think any pick is worth that money. And the inner feeling when someone asks can I try your banjo? Ok then "O can I borrow your pick?" The blood drains for your face knowing your probably gonna have to ask for it back if the mistakingly pop your picks in their pockets lol.
    You won't go wrong with the Dunlop's. If it feels a little uncomfortable then pop it in some boiling water and open the son of a .... up and mould it to your thumb🙂 I'm the same with flatpicks now. I have a gauge I like I gouge a few marks in it so it doesn't move and I play away. I'm sure Mason will agree that practice enough you will get the angle on your pick to connect with the strings clean enough. These picks that edge curve here and there and everywhere don't really get you anywhere....like the old saying I quote once again "the tone is in the bone" practice, practice, practice watch young Masons lessons, and practice again no pick will make you a better player. Love from Ireland dude keep up the good work 👍

    This is the first of your videos I'm watching as others have said your production and video quality is great! And I think this is a very fair review. I like mine for the durability but I don't notice a difference in tone that's very significant and it was tough justifying the $40 price tag!

    I’m unable to modify a blue chip like I like to mod my thumb picks. I dig a little too deep at times for it to not get in my way too… I’ve never cared for them. Know many friends though that swear by them. I’ve always played the golden gate clown colored thumb picks… I prefer the tone and ease of modifying! I find the two metal finger picks more worthwhile to spend $ on… I like Yates 8s and Dotson 8s… also a big fan of Hoffmeyers picks… all three have pretty easily noticeable tone differences!

    • @MasonCroneMusic
      @MasonCroneMusic  2 роки тому

      Very understandable! I've never modified my picks so the Blue Chip works for me. Things like blade length, type of material etc will make significant differences to different people, and not so big of a difference to others. Funny how that works.

    Hi Mason, I recently had the same dilemma for reasons to buy this pick. Over here in the UK it's around £40, I guess that has to do with the shipping price as well, which is deffo pricey for a thumb pick, especially as a beginner player (Cripple Creek & Banjo in the Hollow etc...you all know who.. haha!)
    However, after busting a couple of Dunlops, where they seemed to break at the curved bit, I kinda thought a bit more about it. I went ahead and splashed out on a Bluechip, but it wasn't the JD version, although I did realise at the time the JD was a tad shorter, the other version turned out to be a bit too long in the blade part to what I was used to, so I returned it and got the shorter JD version.
    I Gotta say that I'm really pleased with it, so comfy it's like sitting in your favourite armchair, and I also know that it'll be in the same position every time I pick, which as a newby, adds confidence for helping to keep basic positioning set up.
    I personally think that it has a more 'silky' action on the strings, as though it is covered in an invisible oil, which also adds to confidence when picking (for me). I think that as far as the outlay for money goes, the Bluechip JD will pretty much last me forever, and will eventually work out a lot cheaper than buying a shed load of regular plastic picks.
    Hope this may help others in deciding, but of course it's all personal preference and budgets. Cheers, Steve.

    Yeah too much hype.. This is exactly what I need to know. Way overpriced, especially when the pros are endorse them they cant afford it and I'm sure these picks are given to them. Marketing hype. JD Crowe made his career playing on old plastic picks.

    • @MasonCroneMusic
      @MasonCroneMusic  Рік тому

      They are good picks, but I do agree that they're a bit overpriced. People still buy them though, so I guess they charge that much because they can. 🤷‍♂️
