I just rescued a '69 a few days ago from a field along with maybe 50 spiders. With one broken handle and one broken window crank, this video was super helpful for me to get to the guts of the door and assess the condition. As an FYI, BBT sells door mounting screws that use a hex wrench instead of a Philips screwdriver. I replaced mine with the updated hardware and they really made a difference. It greatly diminishes the possibility of stripping out the hardware when mounting or taking off the doors

Number one. I need to lube my '64 door handle to latch mechanisms, they are tough to move. But I do not want to completely disassemble. Will pull the panel and get access and then try to use a spray tube... The replace vapor lock and panel if succeed.

yep those locks can be very filthy and the hard grease can be removed quickly with some intake cleaner. a good grease helps it running smoothly like you did and that came out very smooth. well done my friend.

Just out of curiosity did you get that video up yet that you talked about in your previous message to me? (cleaning up the rust inside the door w/ Osphos) I'm taking my time on this car since I'm learning as I go on the repairs. Your videos are so helpful and really appreciate the time and effort that you put into all of them. You have really inspired me to do a lot on this car on my own. I have taking the door completed off of the vehicle and all the guts out. I am also going to take my lock cylinder ( like you did in a previous video as well) and take it to a locksmith and have it keyed to my ignition cylinder. It is takes the same blank so I think I will be good. I have a good bit of rust on/in the door but I think it can be repaired fairly easy. I'm thinking that the video that you had on using the JB weld would probably work since they are just small pin holes at the bottom of the door?? Hopefully! Thanks again!! You are awesome!
Hey! It’s funny that you just ask this question. I just mentioned to my wife, starting Monday I’m going to remove the door off of the car and gut it. I won’t film that part. But I’m going to take approximately 3 to 4 days of filming and merging into one film. First will be reaching down inside to the bottom and cleaning up all of that rust. Then spraying the Ospho in the proper method. Then, of course, sealing it, and doing the rest of the work with paint. So oddly enough, that will be Friday’s video, I am 98% sure that is what’s going up this coming week. I don’t mind doing some small holes in the bottom with JB Weld. I’m sure a body mound would tell you cut it all out and weld a new piece. But we try to save money where we can. As long as the area is cleaned up very nicely and protected JB Weld is not going to hurt it.

You mention in your video that you are going to use spray acid, primer, and paint on the inside of the door down at the bottom. What type of acid do you use. I'm new at this and I have a 70 model bug that has a good bit of rust in the bottom of the door. Do you have a video on this? If not...any tips on how is the best way to do this? I like to clean up with a wire wheel whatever I can reach. And then spray it with the acid very carefully. Let it sit for 24 hours. And then prime, then paint. @@OTANERJD do you mean the little jaws that turn and snap on to the striker plate to keep it closed? If that’s the part you’re talking about, I would try to spray and clean it extremely well, and then try it again. Maybe it’s just gunk up inside. But watch your fingers though. If that don’t work, then you will have to replace it.

I'm surprised you didn't use that caliper grease like you used on the pedal assembly.
I pretty much stay with the white lithium grease when it comes to the latches. Seems to be the favorite for the locksmiths.

Been having a problem with my outside do switches
Could be the wires going to that switch or the switches isnt grounding
I was wondering tho do I need to take all of that off to just get the latch out??

I'm a *29 year old lady who is restoring and learning everything from videos just like this. However Mr. Slades tutorials I've learned are the best. *I'm not 29 I was born in 1963 and all of this is new to me. I just have the will and desire to learn, along with being stubborn.
