I picked up a VXR-28 this year. It has without a doubt made me a believer in more compact hunting bows. Before this year my newest bow was a Mathews Halon-32. Which I still own, and love. The Halon-32-7 is my favorite bow of all time. I am excited to see what Mathews will do in 2021.
I have the VXR 31.5. The more I shoot this bow, the more I love it. I had a Halon 32/6 and shot it well. The VXR seems to be everything I liked in the Halon 32, without the things I didn’t like. Great bow.
My peep finally turned on my VXR 28. Took about 600 arrows through it in last 6 months and the added warm muggy weather to. The best bow i have shot. I have my first bow which is a Halon 32 6 absolutely loved it, it’s still my favorite shooting bow but hunting wise the 28 is better for me bc of my hunting style. The 28 is definitely smoother, grip i am torn bc i like the flat back grip bc it feels good on back of hand but I really like the engage grip bc of consistent grip placement. Overall this bow is my favorite one.
I've been using Gold Tip AirStrike 300 arrows (at 70 lbs/30"). But I would imagine most any quality arrows would work just fine, so long as the spine is correct.
The engage grip has rounded edges so unless you’re a high grip shooter it’s extremely easy to torque this bow. TorqueLess side plates fix this known issue. I got frustrated, ripped the grip off and immediately shot far better groups off the bare riser. Zebra strings are terrible which is also a known issue. Besides that, everything else said is accurate. I love my VXR too but this is my one year unbiased review.
I bought this bow a couple of years ago. Then almost broke my back on a job before I even picked it up and set it up. Just now going to finish setting up a brand new 2 or 3 year old bow. My other bow is a hoyt maxus 28 which is a sweet bow. I'm hoping this mathews isn't a let down. I do know off the bat it's a heavier bow than the hoyt
Guys I been made a offer to trade in my Halon32 for a VXR at my local dealer. I tested the 28 and the 31.5 and they’re both wicked awesome as expected. And I can’t decide. I got until next weekend to decide. Help me
No peep rotation? My peep has rotated about 1/4 turn already in about 5 months. It is quick and very accurate to say the least!! I am on my 2nd dozen arrows now and don’t dare shoot 50 yd groups any longer.
@@ArcheryTalkVideo I was just saying of those two not whole shootout lol but I will definitely be checking that video out when it drops! Really enjoy your content!
Hi Lucas, congratulations on another excellent video. The problem is that you can't understand what you say, if you could have a Portuguese caption here in Brazil you would have more followers because your information is very good and accurate about the bow. Thank you.
I'm not sure how to provide Portuguese captioning on the videos. I'm also not sure that there are enough Brazilian/Portuguese people watching to make this a priority.
@@ArcheryTalkVideo Archery in Brazil is very large. But as in most videos only in English it is difficult to understand. If you see the willingness to put the subtitles in Portuguese in your videos. I share them with at least 300 people and in several groups. publicizing your work and your effort to publicize it here in Brazil. That would make your channel a reference here for us.
I've been in the archery for about 9 years. I have a project where rifo bows and accessories. for a symbolic price. Giving opportunity to people who are unable to buy a compound bow.
@@sametelvan6567 if you're new to compound bows and archery in general you want to start with something much cheaper and most likely more out of the box tuning options. I would say a diamond sb-1 for example.
For whatever reason, I like the Engage grip more on the hunting bows than I do on the TRX target bows. I have no idea why, but I couldn't be happier with how this little bow shoots at long range.
Never fails. Say good things about Mathews, I’m in their pocket. Point out things I don’t like and I’m another Mathews hater. UA-cam commenters never disappoint.
Awesome review Lucas. I've been using my VXR 28 for about 3 months now and it's incredible.
It's really solid. Very happy with that bow.

I never thought I'd be this comfortable with a sub 30-inch bow. It's a shooter.

How does it compare to Creed XS?
Awesome review Thank you Lucas.
Had the Triax last year, sold it and have now the VXR 31.5, I'm very happy with it. With arrows would you recommand for this bow?

Love my VXR 28. Quiet, dead in the hand, very accurate. Have taken several animals with it this year.

It's not a lightweight, but for a super short ATA bow, it's nice and stable.
Are you using the 85% let off or the 80% mods?
85

Something going on with your strings and or peep not installed right.
I’ve definitely had Mathews bows that the has the strings stretch and my peep rotate. But not in this one.
What size is the peep?
1/4"
@@ArcheryTalkVideo thank you! Love the videos!
If you were to buy a new bow today and had to pick one, Mathews VXR or Prime Black?
You asking me to tell you my the winner of my shootout, which will go live in a couple of weeks?
Of those two, I'd choose the VXR. But if we are making all bows available, I might have a different answer.

Hey dude how can ı buy this bow i livin in turkey
I’m afraid I have no idea. I know there are some great recurve archers in turkey. I bet you could reach out to one of them.
I found a site called naveksport but they sell the bow for 12 k bucks
I will wait till they drop the price. I want to say ım a beginner can ı do good with this bow
