- When she appeared at The Texas Tribune Festival in late September, Liz Cheney was unequivocal: “I certainly will do whatever it takes to make sure Donald Trump isn't anywhere close to the Oval Office,” she told the closing night audience. If the 45th President is nominated by the GOP, she'll leave the party, the lifelong Republican added.
Though a handful of other Republican congressional representatives, including Ohio's Anthony Gonzalez, have stood apart from party leaders and GOP orthodoxy in opposing Donald Trump and the lie that the 2020 election was stolen from him, none has been more recognizable for doing so and more vocal Congresswoman Liz Cheney. A vice chair of the House January 6 Committee, and one of just two Republicans serving there, Cheney lost the recent primary in Wyoming to a Trump-endorsed attorney who has embraced election falsehoods.
As Cheney prepares for life after Congress, she will join the City Club in conversation with Judy Woodruff, Anchor at PBS NewsHour, to offer her thoughts on the state of the nation and the future of the republic.

If we cannot have a 3rd Party, we at least could try to have CONSERVATIVE DEMOCRATS and HONEST REPUBLICANS who can run against each other in 2024...Possible? We must save our country and our democracy one way or another.
Sadly, the dems are trying to get rid of the other political parties. When that happens we will no longer be a democracy. Whenever, anyone screams about an issue, it is usually because that is what they are. The only threat to democracy right now is the Biden WOK political party.

Why do we need “conservative Democrats”? Why not just ask for honest, conscientious, talented, and qualified candidates of whatever party? A conscientious candidate will acknowledge the threat of global warming, will acknowledge that what matters economically is what is fair, not what certain well-placed or unscrupulous persons can get away with-and so on. It is faulty logic to assume that if one putative faction says x and another says y, that the truth is (x+y)/2. Soi-disant “moderates” can be just as wrong as anyone else.
Liz Cheney and I disagree completely on our politics, but I respect her because she clearly loves America and she is a very strong woman.
Liz has been a useful idiot for Democrats. But after this election they will kick her to the curb.

I am in awe each and every time I hear Liz Cheney speak. She has such clarity as to the issues and the future of the Constitution and, above all, the citizens that make up this great republic.
I find it disconcerting that Fascism is becoming a norm in Republic speaking points. But our fellow citizens are strong and I truly believe that "reason" will prevail. 20 years from now, Mr. Trump will be viewed as a "blip" on the radar -- his views are "not" those of the Republican party.

I really like Liz Chaney and respect her as I have other Republicans, but she speaks of not even speaking with Nancy Pelosi before being on the Jan 6th committee, I don't understand that. The Congress before President Obama may have disagreed on issues, but a lot of them WORKED TOGETHER for the good of the people of this country. They haven't done that since Obama's presidency, and that is what has allowed Trump to get away with the things he did as president and the stuff he has done since. Liz Cheney voted with TFG 93% of the time, and yet, her time on the committee has been remarkable. She has been, as far as I can tell, fair and impartial. She has maintained that stance despite, I am sure, receiving tons of hate mail and death threats. We live in such a poisonous climate these days.
