I have probably watched most of the reviews for the SRPE on youtube and this one was BY FAR the best. I wanted to pickup the case back aswell, and after this review, I am sure I will do it. Thanks for the review!
For me, I always think that a what that is in the 3-figure range should have a blank, closed caseback available for special engravings. I’m helping a friend get his graduation Tissot engraved and the only option is the rotor, which is a tighter space than a whole caseback
I like this casual vlog format of the review. You have put the things together very well - pluses, minuses, specs and your opinion. It is very good looking everyday watch that can fit nicely to many different occasions. It is easy to like it, especially if you are not biased about the lack of screw-down crown and you came across a piece without QC issues. I mostly agree with you that there is no point of transparent case back if the movement has no decoration deserving to look at, but for the people who are new into the mechanical watches it might be exciting to watch how the watch heart beats and rotor rotates and powers the movement at every move of the hand. Of course - these are personal preferences. This closed after-market case back definitely gives cleaner appearance to the overall design of the watch and articulates well with the non-signed crown (viewed mostly as downside). Thank you for the review!
Yes, completely personal preferences. As it stands, out the box, the watch is close to perfection. There is not much more one could ask from from this one, and if I was not a completely insane watch fanatic, I could easily see myself sticking with just this one.
I have the SRPE51, and I love it. It fits my wrist so well it feels like the back of the case was machined to the shape of my wrist. The gray sunburst dial is sweet. I also like the bracelet, and don't care that it has hollow endlinks, can't see them when it is on your wrist. The bracelet does have a little squeak to it though. Bracelet is fine, it looks really good.
Now I've watched it. Excellent video, great content. Love the idea of changing to the slimmer caseback. I'll try that with my SRPD! Agree on the Seiko bracelets they're not the best. But here's something you can try and it might even look better on yours than my Sports. A navy blue stressed leather strap. It looks really good and would suit the more dressy style of your watch perfectly in my opinion. Might be worth trying out.
Thanks brotha. The slim caseback is highly recommended. The watch is fine as it is but the new caseback is that icing on the cake that makes it even better. I did end up replacing the bracelet with a jubilee bracelet and now I believe it is 👌💯. I will say a leather strap would also look like pure class🤘
I will watch this full review tomorrow. It's late here in Istanbul. Have to say though as a Seiko fan and diver myself with 5 Seiko divers in my collection ( never had a misaligned one I buy personally from a Seiko dealer, not online, but I know about the issues). Anyway I actually got a new Seiko 5 recently it was not this one but the SRPD51K2, a blue dial dive style I suppose you could say 100m wr ,but it is still fine at 20m diving, I tried it. Anyway I'm no snob, the new Seiko 5 range are very nice watches, great for everyday wear and reliable, plus great Seiko lume. Some call it a starter watch, but that's not fair, it's nice as a first watch, and equally nice for more long term collectors. Anyway I look forward to watching the review in full.
I sleep with my watches on each night too......so it's not just you. My smaller, more comfortable pieces anyhow. MOF if I'm wearing a piece that's not the most comfortable, I'll usually take it off, and trade it out for something more appropriate. Usually one of my Aragons' to be honest. Wing has taken a "leaf" out of Seikos' play book, and as such, knows well how to make pieces that are very comfortable to wear, and that fit almost any wrist size. No matter what the physical dimensions. I really enjoyed this whole presentation, and could not agree with you more. The specs are really only one page in the story. How those specs translate into everyday wear, is a different subject all together. I really think you've keyed on a large scale problem, that's pervasive amongst reviewers/enthusiasts/collectors, as a whole. Too often, we're quick to dismiss a piece based on it's specs alone. Not that I'm saying that expectations of quality standards aren't relevant, or important. Quite the opposite. We've developed these expectations for a reason, but that's not all there is to a timepiece. Some people (most people in fact.....hence the reasoning behind the "quartz revolution") just want a watch that looks, and feels good on the wrist, and keeps good time. To them, as long as it functions well, then that's enough. Two sides of the same coin if you ask me. I'm really glad that you brought this point to light, as I truly think that it's lost on so many. Love the music selection as usual, BTW. Thanks for putting this together
I guess I was just getting tired of watching review after review of watches that still had plastic and prices tags on them. I can't say for sure, but I think it's fairly reasonable to assume that their experience is vastly different from someone who actually spends their own money and wears it how it's supposed to worn. I agree with you completely, there are so many variables to a watch and so many things that define a watch's "quality". I believe the standard of quality changes from person to person, so at least this way I can present how I came to my conclusion outside of just some numbers on sheet of paper. Always appreciate your input🤘
Great video DK! I like the approach that you took with this, taking us through the daily routine. That dial is very nice, especially considering the price point! Thanks for sharing!
I've bought and used Seiko's over the years.. Decided not to buy them anymore though!! Love the designs, but the quality of the watches does not match the prices.. Thank you.. So much for picking my name out of the hat for Casio A168 prize!!! Absolutely over the moon to have won!! Can't wait for it to arrive..
The last shipment I made across the pond (to Ireland) took a while; around a month. But that was also over the holiday season so hopefully this one doesn't take nearly as long. Congrats on winning🤘🤘🤘
You too brotha. Hopefully that Gladiator comes in soon. I think it will pair nicely with my Seahunter. Both are two-tone, both have abalone dials, and both are absolutely redonculous in the good kind of way.
I think they do not skip the screw down crown because of cost. I think they do it so the Prospex line has better specs. Seiko wants to differentiate between the 5 level and Prospex level. I am not going to hate on them too much for this because Seiko does want to make a profit, and puts more features of their more expensive watches. I can't hate on Seiko too much, because their designs are just better that the other stuff I see out there. The crown at 4:00 looks awesome on every model. Their dials are cool. And their case shapes just dominate. I have 4 SNK-800's and they are just cool looking watches. I got the dressKX and it is a stone cold killer. Now I have the green version and the blue version land tortoises, and they are awesome as well. I just don't see designs from other companies that compete near this price. I know other companies have better specs for the price, but the watch designs don't look as good.
Great video my friend, I am waiting on my new Seiko 5 SNKN58K15 two tone white dial check it out. I better have it tomorrow can't wait. Have a great day,
@@degenerateWA That's weird, Namoki mods said it was not compatible. But, evidently, you're not having an issue, so I'll give it a try. Thanks for the reply

I am definitely getting one of those casebacks. Thanks for showing, I did not know they existed.
I'm always looking at different parts to upgrade my watches. In many ways modding my watches gives me more satisfaction than buying new watches.

The whole package is great. The bracelet would be the "weakest link" but that's only if I absolutely had to pick something to criticize on the watch.
Damn one of the best reviews ive seen on this watch gonna pick one up this christmas 👌

For the record, that music had me on chill and my focus was locked in.

I was never a fan of the term "entry level". I agree, these watches are enjoyable at every level of collecting and I'm sure through generations too🤘
Ok, this is the standard. I am adding the DK review style to my reviews. All hail "The King of Reviews" 🤴
