Fastbrick Robotics Block House in 2 Days

- Fastbrick Robotics has landed on American soil and I am on site from the very first block of their 3rd house in Ft Myers Florida! These mad c@nts worked through the rain in conditions which would have ruined mortar, but the FBR adhesive solution worked just fine! We did have to stop for lighting but I can't wait to visit again, I think they could do a full height wall in 24 hrs in a couple shift with good weather!

These guys are incredible. I’ve been following fbr for many years and seen massive progress in last 5 years. They are going to be huge in the USA 🇺🇸! Great technology and huge praise for Mark and the fbr team. This technology will house millions !! Keep us updated on the progress.
Every piece of cool equipment for working or camping always comes from Australia. Why is that? They have concrete chain saws, the combination table saw/chop saw in one, mini campers, the best off-roading equipment, and now this. Australia makes all the coolest stuff.
that rain footage is gold!
Incredible! Still keeping people employed but lessening injury on the human body! The robot is able to replicate the CAD design, so lessoning human error where sometimes walls are placed in the wrong place. The electricians would love this. Everything's in the right place for them. It's great to see and I'm wondering why it hasn't been done sooner. Great to see
Fbr is amazing they have the most fantastic team,
So glad and happy to see that my years of experiance doing hydraulic installs have paid of. Too be the sole hydraulic hose tech who had fitted and installed all the hydraulic systems along with great help from lead hydraulic engineer its a true blessing to see my work in action ... GO FBR !!!!
More Hadrian X coverage please
Versus 3D printed houses, I like this solution better. It uses available materials, cleaner, and should integrate batter versus 3D printing.
It's a marvelous machine don't get me wrong. I love it! But Can't really compare it to 3d printing of a structure. Different machines for different application no doubt. In this case you can't have rounded corners or features that are parametric, or walls filled with insulating material. So there is that...
it's probably a better current solution, easider to setup compare to a giant 3D concrete printer
Hx can build curved walls. Should check out their videos in the own UA-cam page.
This is incredible l. I’d love to see some more coverage and how it will tie in with architects and builders.
Thank you Jarett for staying on the cutting edge of construction. We don't have to stay with Stone Age techniques in this, the Information Age.
THANKS 🙏 JARRET ,WISHING THEM SUCCESS 🤗💚💚💚
I would see an arm with a wheel or something that rests on the foundation would provide support for the long arm and prevent the swaying and allowing greater speed and precision.
Yeah, there's got to be an even faster way. Im thinking of an up scaled pick and place machine for circuit boards
Thank you for this amazing new technology. Just love this!
Future is bright for sure 😎😎😎💪💪💪💪
So I'm not seeing any "in between" adhesive or grout, just the bottom. Are the workers filling that in?
Yeah- at least in the other videos I've seen of this- they go and fill the wall in at the end. Pretty neat system. All the AI and robots taking everyone's job... this one.. I'm OK with that😂 ive done it. Not fun
They talk about using a construction adhesive that is twice as strong as mortar. The entire house only needs a few gallons. It does make it trickier to handle the variation in block size.
I can't say what the Florida building codes are, but in Darwin in Australia for about 20 years after Cyclone Tracy in 1974, a lot of houses were built from block and then "core filled" so they would fill the entire wall with rebar and concrete, basically using the block as formwork, this way the bulk of the house would survive another storm. I didn't see any rebar starter bars coming out of the slab so this might not be the case here.
@@glenanderson6910 depending on building codes they can drop rods and fill after, I think some in WA have already been done this way. It is mentioned later in the video 9:58.
@@glenanderson6910block layer by trade here..that’s where all the strength comes from.
I appreciate all the comments about taking workers jobs, but in reality you also have to appreciate that younger people are not choosing to be bricklayers anymore and FBR saw that issue and are trying to address it. The average age of a bricklayer in Australia (where this company resides) is 45 and they are hard to come by. If given the coice of working in 30 degree heat carrying out back breaking work or one of the many other more modern jobs for similar pay most younger people would choose the easier job. There will obviously be exceptions but the numbers simply don't lie. Hod carrying and mixing cement in 30 degrees is not fun! Not to mention the amount of injuries that occur that this tech is going to prevent, reduction of site waste etc. It's time for people to reskill at different things and leave the bricklaying to machines. Otherwise we may as well go back to making clothes by hand and cotton mills where my Mum worked!
Yeah that’s how I see it too
❤
Lack of knowledge leads to that thought process. Its systematic spineless men on MASS is why it’s so hard to find bricklayers. We are a dying breed. Good luck with this, anyone who knows masonry knows this is a joke.
RIGHT TO WORK, LOW Wages and GREED are your enemy, not highly SKILLED tradesmen. Still a lot of folks who love and live this trade..it’s the same here in Stl mo average age of bricklayer is 43 years old.
I don’t know about you but I grew up with “go to college use your brain not your back” 😂 same as what was mentioned in this video. I predict that message will come with a lot of regret in the near future. It’s already happening
@@raisethelinewere you agreeing with me or saying I have a lack of knowledge?
@@raisetheline I think you were agreeing with me.
Yep the modern young adult isn’t going to choose real graft over the easy route. Especially if the money is the same.
It’s a shame, but it’s just commonplace now.
Very cool machine 👍
Thanks for posting
Love seeing these new options, but is there any grout other than the base layer?
They talk a LOT about using a construction adhesive that is twice as strong as mortar.
@@kellymoses8566 interesting, I wasn’t listening too much thanks for that
I would expect a machine that big to lay a whole row of blocks at a time.
When will be your next visit to see how there going ?
Would love to see some follow up videos too
Would like to know the hurricane rating on these contact to contact joins.. interesting vs mortar applications. Nice, would like to see this deployed more
Very impressive and much needed technology considering the shortage of masons in the area. How much does an operator get paid? Looks like running this machine would actually be fun, unlike the back breaking low pay manual labor usually involved!
I wonder under how heavy circumstances they can continue printing. German construction sites in most cases have a container for the crew, I wonder if, with IR lights, you could theoretically print 24/7 without interruption?
Our old and rotting buildings could really use it.
(Impressive to see how much faster this system could also go. The speed is already impressive, I wonder what speed they can achieve in 3 or 5 years)
In Germany, FBR has been working with Weinerberger
It can already work 24/7
yikes.... at the 9:07 mark look at how uneven the corner blocks are stacked !
Gonna have to go heavy on the stucco lol
The perennial problem of construction automation: focusing on a very narrow subset of the problem, structural walls, while ignoring the bulk of the costs are in other areas: earthworks and foundation, flooring systems, thermal-hydro insulation and exterior aesthetics, window installation, services from plumbing to internet, roofing, fixtures etc. etc. So they have this $5 million dolar robot that can perhaps, in the best scenario, double the speed of something that costs 10% of the budget. The impact rounds up to precisely zero, or a large negative number if you account for the price of the robot.
No horizontal rebars are required?
apparently not. They mention the construction adhesive is twice as strong as mortar.
depends on the code, the mention some blocks will have rebars to meet code, this is done at the end of the build, but holes are pre drilled in the concrete for it to drop into
Can't wait for this to land in Caribbean soil... hint hint
Just a few gallons of adhesive for the entire build ?? That’s like a drop on each block ?
How much do you think that truck cost and shipped from Australia?
And what's the ROI?
You can’t buy a machine. They supply walls to builders and charge similar to a team of masons.
$1.8m not sure if that’s after shipping and that may have been the AU model.
@@automateconstruction you can’t buy them. When they sign the JV agreement with CRH they will have a joint entity 51FBR/49CRH in US. CRH will loan this entity money and they will buy machines from FBR for $2 million US per machine.
@@raymondpeters9186 The idea from FBR is to partner with big blockmakers all over the world and sells walls and get paid for each block not machines.
Read the company presentation on their website
Just watched a bit more of the video and the block work is all over the place and what happens when it’s core filled the concrete will piss out everywhere
😂😂😂
This won’t go far with that kinda quality. You can see daylight between head joints
what's in the adhesive?
Idk
Typical construction adhesive
@@indivisibleman8596 so like silicone caulk?
🤔🤔 Interesting
How do you install electric and plumbing?
You install framing on the block walls and install it in between the drywall and the block.
More time labor and materials
Sounds expensive
The electricians and plumbers might not even know it was built with a robot
@@automateconstructionoh they will know. Or they will ask if there’s a drug policy/lack there of.
Dude…that’s really bad quality…you know it’s a dying trade when you have no idea what I’m even talking about 😂
@@raisethelinelook at my other videos, things don’t always go this smooth on the cutting edge of construction automation. Compared to most technologies I see this is very nice.
Whatever happened to that company DiamondAge3D? They also leaned heavy end of arm tooling and laser positioning
Good Q
Fascinating technique. But so... many... gaps. Yikes.
House is rendered.
👍👍👍👍
💯🗽
Walls look kinda Wonkie
I noticed that but they will be strong as needed and will be covered up on both sides so it is fine. This is NOT the tool to use if you need a pretty visible block wall!
@@kellymoses8566how can you say they will be strong as needed? You clearly don’t have structural masonry knowledge..
Concrete block is hot in the summer and cold in the winter.
Where I live in Mexico every house is made out of Concrete block and you can not live in your house in the summer without AC.
Concrete block houses are very expensive to heat and cool
I wouldn't live in one
Take care Ray
How well insulated is what determines if a house is hot or cold as desired. After the wall is done they will add insulation foam to the outside.
What goes on top of the foam?
CMU is the FL standard
@ 9:08 that’s the worst craftsmanship I have ever seen in block work. Wait a min there is now craftsmanship 😂
Any real mason/builder would never pay for this work. It would never pass inspection
@12:46 you can see daylight 😂 I bet it soooo much stronger than mortar as claimed.
No insulation???
Foam board is added later.
Why not just use ICF
@@raymondpeters9186 preference
It’s not done yet, have you ever heard of pumicecrete though? It’s pretty chill you should check it out.
Lots of wasted time and energy, if they only lift an inch or two, they could do it slower and have less "sway"
Gotta start somewhere. Get good with what you have, find the bugs, improve.
@@effervescentrelief exactly
This is really cool tech, but a crew of 12 workers could do the same job for similar cost in the same amount of time... also, it would employ a dozen people who could definitely use the work.
This is a demonstration program. The commercial version will run 3 staff per machine.
the tech will improve with time, but humans can't evolve like machines.
@@Hadrian08-b6pdoes the commercial version also do plumb, level, and straight??? I bet I could train you personally to lay a better block in 1 day taking you from never having ever had a trowel in your hand.
Shameful finished product. 😂
This will not pass codes and my name is Troopy
what to bet?
Troopy, you are going to be wrong I think
🤣😂😅🤣😂🤣😅
It’s funny the ones who are disagreeing with you. Anyone with a hint of structural knowledge knows better. Cool toy though.
And the future of jobless humanity begins. Kidding. It's definitely nice though, at least I like it.
And it's too bad this was probably washed away with the hurricane.
Automation reducing the need for labor in a consumer economy where 99% of people only get money in exchange for their labor is quite the paradox, isn't it? The only real solution is a national dividend where a percentage of all corporate profits are distributed equally to every adult. Then everyone benefits from the automation!
Please give an example where this plan works outside of Utopia.
Let’s not do anything crazy just yet, it’s going to take a while still to automate everything. We still need people badly!
Cool. But!!! Stupid is as stupid does this is called a shooting yourself on the foot or kicking yourself in the nuts. Who the hell is going to buy these houses if all these jobs are being taken away by machines? It’s cool for the machine makers and robotic makers. But what about the Mason? No mason no money from a mason to buy a house. It’s funny that these are supposed to be affordable houses, but they’re taking away the job of the people that would buy these houses. Just like the great philosopher said stupid is as stupid does.

Instead of machines they should have used spoons” is a response from Nobel Prize-winning economist Milton Friedman to the idea that using less powerful equipment creates more jobs. The story goes that Friedman was traveling by car and saw road builders in China using shovels instead of modern machinery. When he asked why, his hosts told him it was to keep employment high in the construction industry. Friedman then asked, “Then instead of shovels, why don't you give them spoons and create even more jobs?”.
Still lots of people on site working hard
Thanks for all your thoughtful comments!
@@kellymoses8566 yes, great thought but could you imagine if these robot makers all of a sudden were face with the fact that they have to share dividends with the people whose jobs they were taking away I bet you, those robots would go away very very quick but I love your thought on it. As it is jobs are few and scarce, and not to mention the wave of people that overnight will be giving the right to work as any citizen like you and me so now. Instead of having to Americans compete for one job now you’re gonna have two Americans +10 illegal immigrants that were overnight. Given the right to compete with you over that job. What does that mean? It’s gonna mean this you either take the job at a lower and lower wage. Or one of your recently made illegal they will take the job. And that’s how you create a society of serves. Basically what they want to do is turn the US into China, where people literally work at almost slave, wages. Anyways, he who has eyes to see we’ll see the truth behind all of this glitz and smoke and mirrors.
