Thank you for watching this extremely long video about my first outing to Dead Horse Bay in New York with Merrill Kazanjian of @metaldetectingNYC, Adele Daly, the veritable Queen of Dead Horse Bay and Jeff Marinello. Hi Nicola! Thank you so much for linking MUDLARKER - our documentary film about Adele. It means so much to her that others can see a window into her life. She's an incredible person. Hope you enjoyed your time with her and again thank you so much!
Yaaaaaaasssss! First of all, what a fun day we had at Dead Horse Bay. I’ve been looking forward to this video. I’m one minute in and although the guy in the red hat talks a lot 😂 I can see that you did this wonderful day justice! Cheers Nicola!
Great video! Why are there so many coins at this place? Especially, when those coins would’ve been worth so much back in the 1900s! Why would people be throwing out all these coins?
I haven’t read all the comments, so I don’t know if anyone has already said that Frank Arthur Ingargiola was enlisted in World War II. He was born in New York on Aug. 7, 1918. He was enlisted in July, 1944 but quickly discharged in Sep., 1944, due to a disease. Theresa (maiden name probably Sarafidi, as her mother was listed as Sadie Sarafidi in the 1930 census) was his mother. He was a Longshoreman, when enlisted, with brown hair & eyes & “ruddy” complexion. His father was Nunzio Ingargiola, who had been born in Italy & emigrated to New York in 1912. Frank was listed in the 1995 Brooklyn Directory.
As an American, just wanted to say thank you for sharing Merrill, Jeff and Adele's excitement at finding and gifting you our "old" coins. You are finding coins that are several hundred years old yet you still were interested and engaged. It looked like a very fun (and exhausting) day. The George and Josephine pendant is very poignant, I hope George made it back safely and had a happy life. The dogtags for children's identification was also poignant, especially with the great sadness we are experiencing now regarding the loss of so many innocent children to a senseless school shooting.
Oh my goodness!!! My brothers and I all had these tags. I still have mine. I was born in 1951. I never knew that it was for identity in case of a nuclear war. I thought it was because my dad had one during WW2 and my parents wanted us to have something like his. This is amazing to me! Thank you so much for all of your videos. I have seen them all.
I've been watching Merrill, Jeff and Adele for a while. Loved the scene of them leaving the beach and chatting. The Bob story was very nice. Lovely video!
This is literally one of the best videos you’ve ever made. I’m so glad that you got to Dead Horse Bay!!! I started watching Merrill’s channel after I started watching yours, and I remember thinking, “Nicola would LOVE this beach!” You found so many great things! 👍 That dog tag IS a reminder of scarier times - I was born in 1968, and still remember having atomic bomb drills (!) in primary school in the 1970s. Our school had a fallout shelter in the basement, with big cans of water, crates of Graham crackers, and cots. Our 5th grade teacher gave us a tour, and all of these things had been there since the Kennedy era.
Wow, what memories of your school shelters etc... We didn't have that but we had leaflets on how to make a nuclear shelter! scary times. Thank you too for your thoughts on the video. Im so glad you enjoyed it. I loved making it. xxx
@@nicolawhitemudlark We had those little books, too! All about how a shelter should be built and how to stock a shelter. And then what happens during and after a nuclear attack and what should be done, how to proceed. When I was in 7th grade in 1967, age 12, we actually used the small blue books to study it a bit each day with tests as we went along for a month or so. Then the course was repeated again the following year, 8th grade. We had had the duck and cover drills during elementary school, but they sort of run together in my mind with the tornado drills since I lived in the Midwest. For those, we were ushered out into the hallways, away from windows and doorways of rooms, then we were instructed to sort of hunker down or squat with our heads down between our knees and our arms covering our heads. Way too much fun! 😂 We were not tagged, though. I had no idea that had been done!
This video IS NOT PRETTY LONG!! I could have watched for another hour, the new friends were completely lovely to get to know lol Adele is quiet the opposite of you lol and I LOVE you both!!! The kindness and generosity was stellar and the finds were unbelievable! Here I am in America thinking there wasn't any good places to go mudlarking!! I can not thank you enough for taking us with you on this amazing journey and I can not wait to see more of your discoveries here in America. Wish I lived near a shore to invite you to! WestCountry Mudlarks sent me a box last month and OMG I am in LOVE with wee bubbly bottles and bottle stoppers, I love the small Daddies sauce bottle that was damaged in shipping and the Eiffel Tower Lemonade and the aqua bubbly ink wells BUT what amazed me the most was the size and weight of a clay pipe. The pipe they blessed me with had a elegant simple design and 4 inches of stem. I am utterly amazed and shocked that it has rolled around somewhere and was still perfectly intact, it is utterly amazing and I am so honored to hold such grand pieces of history from mudlarking and bottle dump finds. LOL I HATE dusting hahaha but these won't collect much dust because I am always picking them up to examine them again. God Bless and thank you for taking me on the wonderful treasure hunt and friend finding expedition. I loved them all
I still have my dog tags from that time. We were even instructed on getting under our desks in the event a nuclear bomb dropped in the vicinity, which even at the tender age of 7 seemed superfluous. Very well done video, Nicola!
Thanks Nicola. What a wonderful group of characters. Those are really coveted American coins! Mercury dime,10 cents, Buffalo nickle is 5 cents, Wheat penny is one cent, penny is copper and the others are silver. I couldn't believe he found a gold tooth filling! Such a sweet medal from Josephine. I wonder if he ever came back from the war? Our history is not thousands of years old but still can be interesting. 😁
I love these guys LOL They would be good drinking buddies. They constantly talk smack but hey it's all in good fun LOL :). Thanks for hanging out with this lot :)
I am SO GLAD that you've met the infamous Mayor of Dead Horse Bay, Adele Daly!! If you ever get to the South, make sure you meet Exploring Alabama, and Adventure Archeology!
Regarding the buffalo nickel, there is an old Americanism to describe a miser: "He squeezes a nickel so hard the buffalo hollers". Lovely people, lovely finds!
Adele is quite the character isn't she. One of those memorable characters. Some people could be offended by her but I'll bet she has a heart of gold. Loved todays outing.
Nicola and Adele --- salon and saloon. Two very contrasting ladies but both real treasures. One of the most heart-warming videos I have ever watched, and I am 78 years old. Thank you Nicola.
Looks like you had a really great time Nicola!! I love the pendant from Josephine to George. Since it said luck instead of love, I’m imagining this was a gift from a little sister to her big brother going off to war. I adore my brother who is 10 years older than me and I would have done something like that for him. The bottle stopper you was found was exquisite!!! I hope it made the trip back to London safely. Can’t wait for more videos!! Could have watched much longer! Love from DeeAnn 🇺🇸
That New York banter is priceless. Adele sending the boys up and the friendly razzing was hilarious. She's a hoot! I'd love to see Adele on the Thames sending you and your mudlarking friends up. I love the Queen of Dead Horse Bay. She's a real treasure. Really distinct difference of cultures. The Brits are friendly and very polite in comparison. The love for finding treasures we all share in common. And they were so generous with their knowledge and gifts. A whole hour at Dead Horse Bay, what a treat for us all. Lovely finds, great people. I would spend every day there. I've dreamed of that place ever since I saw it online years ago. The sound of the bottles tinkling in the tide is distinctive to that beach. Thanks Nic for going there and sharing your trip. Looking forward to your next posts. Rachelle, Australia 🦘 xo
Nicola, I can only imagine what you must have thought of an argumentative person. It is hard to handle on a daily basis. Some of my family was like this always making people feel bad about themselves. She must have had a rough life to feel the way she feel’s my family was the same way to me. Always in competition with everyone. Very nerve racking. Although, she seems like a good hearted person. Thanks for sharing your trip to NYC, I hope you found it magical!
This was like a precious gem with so many facets, I can't pick a favorite part! What fun, meeting cross the Big Pond buddies, & speaking larking language, what a character Adele is, so down to earth , as well as the two great guys, so generous with their finds! Thanks Nicola for the great entertainment!!!!
I love New Yorkers! They are thick skinned and tender hearted!! What an absolute sweet video!! I wish I could have been there! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ From Minnesota
That was a good one Glad you enjoyed your day so much. the car on the indy 500 badge looks 1920s What a fun group of friends, real ambassadors for America and N.Y. .What a Gentleman Merrill is !
thank you so very much, Nicola: you and your mudlark friends, Si, Kit And Caboodlers, Northern Mudlarks, so many more.....my friends and myself are struggling with the Uvalde incident and others....we need the muddy grounding which you provide. thank you so very much, and enjoy the mud wherever you are
Epic the queen of Dead Horse Bay meeting the queen of the Thames foreshore! What a royal treat! Adele is certainly a crown jewel! Merrill was an amazing host! Great video and awesome job Nicola!👍👍👍
I don't know why, but the silver pendant made me burst into tears. I don't know if its because you were here in NYC, where I am. I have watched other items with inscriptions be found in the Thames, but being close to home, and found in Brooklyn, where my grandparents met, made me think of them and the photo I have of them sitting on the stoop in Brooklyn in the 1930s. It made me think how George and Josephine are not with us any longer, but regardless of what their relationship was - friends, siblings, school sweethearts - just that someone made such a thoughtful gesture and that we got to see that act of tender kindness, because it was unearthed from in the mud, maybe 100 years later, and it just really touched me on so many levels. I always wanted to mudlark the Thames, with its centuries and centuries of history, but there are things right hear too, that can be just as great. Maybe, I could get muddy here?
Thank you for the great video. Also, showing the military "US" find, and other military finds with pictures and music - very timely on our Memorial Day weekend.
I love your view of the world and your sharing of it. I can't ever give you enough praise. I particularly so enjoyed your time with Digger Dawn. For me, you have lived the life. Go lady, go.
Omg Nicola, I can't say how much I enjoyed the video! Merrill and Jeff are so lovely and what a character Adele is, I would love to see her with you on the Thames foreshore! The finds are wonderful, I love the tag and the story behind it and it's great that his wife and daughter will be able to treasure it. I wonder who George and Josephine were?. Many thanks for this video, it's been fab 😃💗 x
Loved this video. Beautiful sounds, beautiful finds, and beautiful tribute to our military. Adele was a doll! Love her north eastern attitude and personality. Merrill was a good guy, and very knowledgeable about a lot. Jeff was good too.
Amazing video, would love to visit Dead Horse Bay one day. What a character Adele is, I bet she keeps those school kids very entertained driving the school bus. Some lovely finds.
Absolutley fascinating and deeply personal bits of history found there in which a short bit of time. Your fellow mudlarks couldn’t have been nicer, more welcoming and charming. Their ribbing among one another is like a big NY hug and you can tell they’re just one big muddy family who care about one another. Thanks for bringing us along for a wonderful time. It was nice to meet some new mudlarks on this side of the pond. Can’t wait to see where you’ll take us next time ♥️
Loved your reverse-color striped shirt, Nicola. This was a truly unique mudlarking experience here in the US. One thing you will always find in New York -- characters! And it appears that you certainly did find them and some wonderful artifacts, too. As always, a wonderful, thoughtful video. xx Karen
I cannot tell you how long I have been waiting to see your adventures with 2 of NYC’s GOAT Scavengers - Merrill and Adele!! I’ve been watching those 2 for quite some time and when I saw Merrill’s shorts with you there I was so excited. I’ve just started watching and it’s so nice to see Merrill in front of the camera lol. Will comment again when it’s finished. xxxx
Nicola, I was born in 1957 and can remember in early 60's in first or second grade being taught by teachers to get under our desks with hands covering head. When they said it was to protect us in case of a bomb attack. There was an alarm that would sound that told us to get under the desk! Tensions was high for us waiting on the alarm to sound anytime. Kinda sucked some of our innocence away. Then in middle 60's they said the alarm was for tornados at which we was to go to hallway facing our lockers and cover our heads waiting. Living in Oklahoma I remember doing that many times!
Being originally from Brooklyn I really enjoyed this possibly your best video to date. Yes, New York has its share is characters and I am glad you had such a great time here. Looking forward to more great videos….Thanks👍
WOW, What an amazing video. I adored it. The mudlarkers are so amazing. That river was almost like the Thames but with way more broken glass. I would love to mudlark there. WOW. Thank you, Nicola
What a day at Dead Horse Bay! Such a different Mudlark experience… the people are so generous and had a good time teasing each other. Adel’s gift to you , the tags and coins are perfect souvenirs. The history is a sad reflection on many episodes of history since the invention of the atomic bomb. I was a teenager during the Cuban Crisis and we had emergency rehearsals in case of attack. We were filed to the basement and crouched heads down by the walls so we could be easily found if the school collapsed. In reality it was a mass grave. I hope our children never go through it again. Sorry for my gloomy memories. I do look forward to what you have in store next week. Thank you Nicole.
What a day you had out out of dead horse bay. You all had a lot of fun. The first thing you found wS a army man.on veteran s day. Thank you sharing your video with us all. Your friend Shirley from new Bern, north Carolina USA ❤❤❤❤❤❤😮🎉🎉🎉🎉❤😊😅😊😊🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉❤
Welcome to New York, Nicola. I noticed at 13:45, you pushed over a large bit of metal, but seemingly proceeded on without investigating it. What it appeared to be was an antique, document, seal embosser. A piece of paper would be slid between two circular, metal plates, then the user would apply downward pressure on the handle, impressing whatever was engraved on the plates into the paper. In the U.S., this sort of stamp is quite common to find on birth, business and other important records. These cast iron, manual, embossing seals, have been replaced by automatic machines and are now collected for their beautiful design and decoration, as well as for the information found on their engraved plates. What an interesting and enjoyable day on the shore, with interesting and enjoyable people.
I love curmudgeonly old-school New Yawkers! Back in the late ‘90s, we had a post-Christmas weekend trip there. After dinner in Chelsea, we took a cab back to our hotel, and I sat up front with our cabbie. He was very much like Adele, and I just loved talking with him about his family and his life in the city. One of my favorite local-encounter memories of all of my trips.
That was so much fun to watch it made laugh and brought me to tears a few times! Adel was a very interesting person and her words were very eloquent! Thanks so much! 💕💕WV🇺🇸
Nicola... What a FABULOUS episode!! Many moments of heart touching scenes. So happy you made it to the United States, hoping you can come back soon and share more memories with us. Sincere Regards, James.
It seems like a really great place for plenty of fines on the shore there. The people you were with seem really friendly and kind. Glad you enjoyed your visit, and bring back some fantastic finds. Many thanks for the presentation.
Absolutely loved this video…born in Birkenhead 76 years ago and now reside in AZ…what a great group of new friends you have introduced us to….keep on enjoying the search😊😊😊❤❤❤
Nic: Congratulations on this magnum opus of mudlarking videos! I posted earlier with a link to the obituary for the gentleman in the second dog tag, but UA-cam deleted the comment. There is such an obit you can easily find. He passed away at age 90 in 2020. I thoroughly enjoyed this most "New York" of videos. Nice job, Nic. Glad you enjoyed your stay in NY.
Great video Nicola, gotta love New Yorker's , they have gone thru a lot of stuff including 911. NYC , surrounded literally by water . Glad you had a good time.
Wow that was an amazing mud lark, they were awesome people, especially Adelle definitely a fun person. Awesome find’s especially the tag that you are sending back to his wife and daughter, awesomeness. Take care hon and thank very much for sharing your trip to America 👍👏❤️🌈
He is a lovely chap, you both are a lovely combo. It would be nice to see him in London and mudlark on the Thames. That would be super cool! Love watching your videos every Sunday, a fitting end to the week. Keep up on the fantastic finds and videos and history lessons. Nicola you are super amazing x
Great video Nicola! You always manage to bring an old, inanimate object to life! History is not an object or just an event, it is the lives of people! Sending love from Canada 🇨🇦❤🇨🇦❤
I’m so glad you got to go to Dead Horse Bay with Merrill and meet Adele! I’ve been following Merrill’s channel for quite some time and have watched him and Adele at Dead Horse Bay. I think it’s wonderful that you were able to track down the owner of the tag you found. I hope Merrill can do the same with the one he found. This was another great video, Nicola!
Despite my hopelessly hungover state,I found myself absolutely riveted by this fascinating place! Adele is a hoot! Her best quote, amongst others: “I’m tired of your stoopid nincompoop stuff!” 😂 Oh and in my opinion, the buffalo(bison) nickel is our finest coin,it embraces the greatness and majesty of this nation like no other coin. Everyone should own one❤️
I would like to add one more thing: Nicola, you were here in the USA during some troubling events, heartbreaking events, tragedy, repeated, seemingly without end. Guns. This video,it took me back to a place where I was proud to be from this country, once again! I thank you for that, and I look forward to seeing more of your adventures in America! 🥰
Ok so I am commenting as I view, because I am currently incapable of commenting on this video in its entirety. Robert. Bob. His little is tag. The story you unveiled. It made me weep and smile at the same time! I am no stranger to tears, but when they fall upon my smiling face, that is a rare and beautiful moment indeed. Thank you ,Nicola.
Fabulous in every way, Nicola. Loved it from the lightning at the start to the stories at the end. Thanks for sharing. I found my very first piece of pipe stem today. It's been tough to find places to go hunting but I think I might have cracked it at last! Thanks for the inspiration as well as the videos.
Adele is a sweetheart, def a New Yorker! I love that Merrill gave you the medallion with the engraving to George from Josephine, it's so lovely! Merrill is a gem, a real sweetheart, as was Jeff! what a great time! Adele was right, it's the people! Love you Nicola!
I find it very interesting how you cross the atlantic and things immediately become competitive , I realize there's a lot of banter going on, but "winning" non the less seems to be important over there, I for one have never thought of mudlarking as a competition ... ;-) Lovely episode though!
Yaaaaay!!! You're the reason I learned about DHB as I became obsessed with your mudlarking videos! My first time there I met Adele and got pictures with her and fangirled :) Merrill was the perfect guide to pick as well! love your videos and when I head to London I plan on finding some treasures on the foreshore! You see by the exclamation points I am so happy to see my favorite treasure hunters in one video!
This video was wonderful as usual, never too long! I am so glad you had a great time in the USA! There are so many of us from the United States that love to watch your videos and look forward to them. I was born in 1951 and in my small town in Kansas we did not have name tags given to us by the government. So that information was new to me also and very interesting. Please stay safe and be careful! ❤❤
Fascinating video Nic and what wonderful people you met at Dead Horse Bay, Merrill, Jeff and Adele!! Excellent and we look forward to your next one from NY X
Well, my grandmother's name was Josephine. She married my grandfather a little later that most girls marry. I'm going to pretend she had a love for a George she gave that to as he shipped off to war out of NYC prior to meeting my grandfather. I so enjoyed this video in so many ways. Thank you so much!
Nicola, at 13:48 you dug up what you thought was a coin, but it ended up being a large item. That item was a seal for a notary for example or a business or court. I work in the courts here and we have an original from 1845 and it looks just like that.
I loved everything about this! The gentle clinking sound of the glass in the water, the amazing (and frightening) story of the dog tag, the very American bits & bobs that are a great mementos of your trip, and of course the entertaining cast of characters straight out of a Seinfeld episode! I’m watching for the second time tonight & will likely watch again. Thanks!
Wow, wow, wow. Just WOW!!!! I would be in my element mudlarking at Dead Horse Bay. Am hoping to visit New York next year and I would love to go and visit Dead Horse Bay!
With regards to the metal dog-tags the school children were asked to wear in the 50s, it reminded me of the papers labels our children wore pinned to them when they were sent off to be evacuated in the countryside. Same reason to identify the child, but certainly big difference in the means.
What a blessing it must be to you that your hobby has blossomed into something that allows you such great adventures. Through your videos you touch the lives of thousands of people who you'll never meet but count you as a friend. We feel your excitement at each find and enjoy the history that you are able to uncover. The people we meet through you are most interesting and informative. (Adelle is a treasure. A true caricature of a New Yorker) Keep up the good work. (Come back to visit your American cousins. I think you'd greatly enjoy a summer of larking on Dead Horse Bay)
I love your channel and I think your subscribers would love to see a caption of what bird species or genus you are hi lighting on any given clip. I know this would be extra work for you but you clearly have a love for the birds and it would add quite a shine to your videos. I, for one, would appreciate it anyway!

Adele is the perfect personification of the "New Yorker" a bit crass and somewhat crude, with a heart of gold.
absolutely
the perfect personification of a stereotype that really doesn't bear out...
@@SeventhEve And for some, like Adele, it is very much accurate. It's called life happens, especially in parts of New York.

since the good luck token was found back in the usa, it would seem likely that he made it home.
@@thurin84 Unless it was sent home with a letter from one of his buddies or she never got to give it to him before he left?
this is my absolute favorite episode so far almost like a great documentary or an ensemble film without a plot just hanging out meeting characters
thank you. I really appreciate your comment here. that means a lot xx
I love these guys LOL They would be good drinking buddies. They constantly talk smack but hey it's all in good fun LOL :). Thanks for hanging out with this lot :)
I am SO GLAD that you've met the infamous Mayor of Dead Horse Bay, Adele Daly!! If you ever get to the South, make sure you meet Exploring Alabama, and Adventure Archeology!
thank you I definitely will!!
I am an American. Glad you got to visit us. That Adele is a character. Great beach to look for history.
Regarding the buffalo nickel, there is an old Americanism to describe a miser: "He squeezes a nickel so hard the buffalo hollers". Lovely people, lovely finds!
I love that Julie!
Adele is quite the character isn't she. One of those memorable characters. Some people could be offended by her but I'll bet she has a heart of gold. Loved todays outing.
Thanks Sandy!
I really enjoyed this adventure with you all.Adele is a hoot.love ya'lls.finds.Great mudlarking.Thank you for sharing this wonderful experience ❤
Nicola and Adele --- salon and saloon. Two very contrasting ladies but both real treasures. One of the most heart-warming videos I have ever watched, and I am 78 years old. Thank you Nicola.
I love that you are going to use glass you found here in the states for your wonderful fishes!!!! ❤️❤️❤️
Love from DeeAnn 🇺🇸
thank you DeeAnn xx
Some really nice people you met at the beach in NY. We could all need an Adele to cheer up our days.❤☺👍
Rachelle, Australia 🦘 xo
thank you Rachelle xx
Nicola, I can only imagine what you must have thought of an argumentative person. It is hard to handle on a daily basis. Some of my family was like this always making people feel bad about themselves. She must have had a rough life to feel the way she feel’s my family was the same way to me. Always in competition with everyone. Very nerve racking. Although, she seems like a good hearted person. Thanks for sharing your trip to NYC, I hope you found it magical!
Love the characters. It must have been a great trip. Adele would be a hoot driving the school bus.
What a lovely walk through NY history with Merrill as our tour guide 💙
P.S. - I just ❤ Adele.
The NYC accent is so abrasive! And it always stands out. Love this video!
Thanks Carol! X
I love New Yorkers! They are thick skinned and tender hearted!!
What an absolute sweet video!! I wish I could have been there!
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ From Minnesota
thank you. Next time! x
That was a good one Glad you enjoyed your day so much. the car on the indy 500 badge looks 1920s
What a fun group of friends, real ambassadors for America and N.Y. .What a Gentleman Merrill is !
What a delightful guy! He sounds such a sweetie and so generous. You obviously had a lovely day. Adele is certainly a character.
thank you so very much, Nicola: you and your mudlark friends, Si, Kit And Caboodlers, Northern Mudlarks, so many more.....my friends and myself are struggling with the Uvalde incident and others....we need the muddy grounding which you provide. thank you so very much, and enjoy the mud wherever you are
Ah bless you! sending you love. Such a terrible tragedy and words arent enough xxx
Maybe, I could get muddy here?
hi Corinne, yes very well put. and these finds are very touching in so many ways. yes you can get muddy there! xx
Adele, gruff, tough, crass, but a good hearted person. Looks like lots of fun! I'd be talking like that if mom and dad hadn't moved us west.
Go lady, go.
thank you dear friend ❤️
Omg Nicola, I can't say how much I enjoyed the video! Merrill and Jeff are so lovely and what a character Adele is, I would love to see her with you on the Thames foreshore! The finds are wonderful, I love the tag and the story behind it and it's great that his wife and daughter will be able to treasure it. I wonder who George and Josephine were?. Many thanks for this video, it's been fab 😃💗 x
Thanks Amanda. I'm so glad you enjoyed it. xx
Thank you Laura xx
Brought a little tear to my eye xxx Adele bless her soul xx
Alternative title: "Nicola Finds The MOST Stereotypical NewYorker in Dead Horse Bay"
As always, a wonderful, thoughtful video. xx Karen
Thank you Karen
What an awesome woman Adele is ... absolutely love her.. Merrill and Jeff utterly lovely too ❤
Loving Merrill, and Adele, what a character, hope they’ll come to the UK. Getting the tag back to Bob’s family was really special

Will comment again when it’s finished. xxxx
Thanks Julie! I really hope you enjoyed it xx
Hi Julie!!!
Thanks!
thank you so much Audree
Nicola, I was born in 1957 and can remember in early 60's in first or second grade being taught by teachers to get under our desks with hands covering head. When they said it was to protect us in case of a bomb attack. There was an alarm that would sound that told us to get under the desk! Tensions was high for us waiting on the alarm to sound anytime. Kinda sucked some of our innocence away. Then in middle 60's they said the alarm was for tornados at which we was to go to hallway facing our lockers and cover our heads waiting. Living in Oklahoma I remember doing that many times!
Well they still teach that method for tornado safety All over the Midwest. A desk or table will protect you from some of the falling debris
Being originally from Brooklyn I really enjoyed this possibly your best video to date. Yes, New York has its share is characters and I am glad you had such a great time here. Looking forward to more great videos….Thanks👍
Thank you ❤️
Nicola.... this episode was so so so entertaining! And I'm so glad you've taken the opportunity to mudlark across the pond here in the USA!
thank you!
Thank you Nicole.
yes that was a scary time. some finds take us back there xx
Luv it when you was introduced to Jeff,Do you come here often, definitely a 70s chat up line.
ha ha, yes, did you notice that?! :)
Yes, that's what it looked like to me, too. I wanted to know where it was from!
I had one 40 years ago that was a Notary seal
Thank you! Yes, so many people have mentioned that and unfortunately I had no idea what it was!! I left it there. Maybe someone else will find it. xx
Yes, I recognized immediately as I had one for my business.
You are always so gracious and classy. Thank you for sharing your trip to NYC. There are so many wonderful finds and stories.
Thanks Tina!
That was so much fun to watch it made laugh and brought me to tears a few times! Adel was a very interesting person and her words were very eloquent! Thanks so much! 💕💕WV🇺🇸
Thank Lynette. Im so glad you enjoyed it xx
Nicola... What a FABULOUS episode!! Many moments of heart touching scenes. So happy you made it to the United States, hoping you can come back soon and share more memories with us. Sincere Regards, James.

Delightful! These NYC mudlarks are a blast! So glad you had fun, Nicola.

Hello how are you doing?
Nic: Congratulations on this magnum opus of mudlarking videos! I posted earlier with a link to the obituary for the gentleman in the second dog tag, but UA-cam deleted the comment. There is such an obit you can easily find. He passed away at age 90 in 2020. I thoroughly enjoyed this most "New York" of videos. Nice job, Nic. Glad you enjoyed your stay in NY.
You tube has really gotten strange about what they delete lately.

Hi Lauren!
Despite my hopelessly hungover state,I found myself absolutely riveted by this fascinating place!
Adele is a hoot!

Absolutely loved this hour, lovely you have met some nice people while mudlarking. Thank you!

Thanks Mum! Xxx
I'm sad I missed that!!
Thanks!

hello from Denmark 🌸🌱
I was in grade school in the 1950's. I have one of those tags and I had forgotten what it was for. Thanks for reminding me. Julie
