This was already a very exciting video (that sunflower label!), so when I seen that I won one of the signed copies of Searcher I nearly fell off my sofa. Thank you so much Nicola!!
Another absolutely brilliant film, Nicola. I was born 70 years ago on the banks of that river - in the York Road General Laying-In Hospital, but I've learned so much more about the history of that amazing river from your films than I ever have from any other source. You're addictive to watch and your enthusiasm is contagious - in a very wonderful way. Thanks so much.
Rob, I love that building! I live in the area now and like you, I just love all the nuggets of quirky local information that Nicola unveils. it's the gift that never stops giving.
The imperial Light plaque has 2.0 CP on it indicating 2 candlepower. This could have been off an electric lamp or possibly Acetylene powered lamp. I imagine the latter, as it is big eoough to come off of a larger tank. (Here in the U.S. some houses had a buried underground tank that they dumped Carbide and water into to generate gas to light up a home. Same principle as a miners lamp but on a much larger scale). On the wood plaque, the top connector with the pins is a commonly used electrical connector. If you really clean the base flange of it, I suspect you will see the words "Cannon" on it and a part number. I am unable to ID the lower item, as you don't have a good close up of it. Here in the U.S. one can still buy imported soft drinks from Japan in Codd bottles. I bought a couple just for the bottles. Great finds. I really like the coin and the plaque the best.
Good call on the electrical connector. It appears to be the type that had 16-gauge contacts and was widely used in the WWII era on aircraft, naval, and other military equipment. Can't imagine, though, why it is mounted on wood.
to add a thought, it looks to me like the 'charge 16lbs' on the right may refer to the load of carbide that would have been used in the acetylene gas generator for one of these lights. If correct, that sounds quite large, so either that plaque might have gone with a case of carbide to refill the system several times, or it might have gone to the central canister which would have had gas lines leading off to each fixture in the stately home. THE OLD BYRD FARM VLOG here on youtube has a couple of videos of an in-ground carbide gas generator from an old acetylene lighting system that was installed in a US farm.
@@tuckertomlinson4216 I remember reading where there was a short time that these electrical generators were being installed on boats/ships, usually as a retrofit, as it was all such new technology that would give them lights at night.

Funny what you said about wanting to touch the things you find. Ever since I was a child I've been compelled to touch old things. Especially very old buildings. It's almost an obsession.

I MAY be mistaken, but I think the object identified as a barge pole 'punt pole' or 'setting pole', is actually a 'Pike Fork' used to help erect pre-framed walls and scaffolding. It also looks like a defensive pike fork used to push away siege ladders from a wall. It may also be a 'Spar Pike' used aboard ship to help raise and position spars, but this is only a guess. All the 'Barge Poles' I can find have a much blunter end to them. At any rate, just keep Mud Larking and showing us what you and your fellow larkers find. Thank you.
Great idea to mount your plaque on the wood piece. I would go one step further and mount it away from the wall just enough to put in a light strip so it gets light all around like a sun flower 😊 The pipe with the little person is absolutely adorable. Makes me think if anything we loose today will seem beautiful 100 years from now.

Oh Nicola what a bounty of finds,to watch your excitement is definitely infectious,I wason the edge of my chair till the end. That Stoeware bottle is a real beauty, the glaze makes it look like new .I remember back in my school days using Stephens ink and I also recall that horrible crusty powdered mix that the ink monitor would pour into the individual ink wells. Most desks bore signs of its indelible characteristic. The lasting impression of this vlog though was your wonderful excitement, it must be wonderful to have a hobby that excites you so muc ,I love it . Thanks for this Nicola . Take care happy larking X
Nicola, how I love your eye for nature, particularly our feathered friends and that naughty but adorable little Sammy Squirrel' and the end of your video. WOW! 😊 Naturally I adore sunflowers, so here is my best bunch in thanks for this simply wonderful mudlarking video! Best wishes to you, Wendi 🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻
What an incredible find of objects. Incredible group of rare unusual lovely objects to add to your collections. I can't believe you found all these amazing things. I don't know which is my favourite. They are all so unusual and beautiful each in there own way. I would still be shrieking. Its so incredible. Well done. Thank you. It was so exciting. Thank you for showing us.
It is extraordinary that the beautiful brass plate you found is so fascinating to us now but back in the day it was as interesting as the sticky label on an Amazon delivery box ! Pipes were the fag ends of today yet with the passage of time we value them so much . One of the greatest joys in life is seeing beauty in ordinary things and realising that everything is special in its own way . I wonder what people will find in a hundred years that we discarded so casually today and frame it and treasure it ......another fantastic video Nicola, thank you.
Pip pip and Cheere-o….this is a brilliant show and I just can’t believe all the little treasures you can find! Guess there is something to be said about being a country with a very long history😊 stay well and keep finding goodies to entertain all of here across the pond! Your American fan.👍👍🇺🇸👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

can't wait to see your new wall art. i have an old window frame w/glass still intact i'm turning into art for my living room. cost me nearly nothing yet will be a one-of-kind beauty. thanx for sharing your excitement when treasures turn up in the mud.
Congratulations on your fabulous treasure finds. I gasped as you pulled out the large pouring ink bottle! I just love the stoneware bottles, just lovely. 🥰🐕🇺🇸
Your excitement always warms my heart, your like a little girl in a candy store with so many sweets to pick from. It's always a pleasure to watch your videos, thank you so much for taking us on your many treasure hunts and sharing your finds and research with us.
Your excitement is contagious and I am sure that other viewers like me cannot wait to see what Old Father Thames has offered up for you to find. I thought the marble shone like the moon when you held it up to the sun. It became more than a round ball of glass and became magical and ethereal.
Wow fabulous finds! I think that the Imperial Light may have been on a crate since it is marked 16 lbs maybe a crate with a light fixture or a crate of bulbs. Lovely plaque! 👍
Lived your excitement when you found the beautiful plaque. All the finds were so interesting. I was watching an old episode of 'Time Team' yesterday and the expert historian picked up a clay pipe, he said that the Gentry liked holding the full length of the clay pipe when smoking while relaxing, whereas the workers needed both hands free to work so they would snap off most of the length of the pipe to be able to smoke while still working...thats why skelital remains if that era often show evidence of damage to two teeth where the pipe was held. Interestingly I thought of you immediately Nicola. Stay safe 💕🇦🇺
Nice finds! I think the brass plate of imperial lightning was attached to a gas/propane tank that fueled the lights. Since it has 16 LBS on it and a mention of hours, just a thought. Keep the videos going, they are very entertaining! Greetings from a detectorist and occasional mudlarker from Holland
Nicola, you're intitled to be very excited you find some fantastic finds and thankyou for asking about my day yes I did have a fairy good day I got my xtype JAGUAR through its mot so not to bad at all god bless you had a great day to and wow pirate silver Great finds 😊😊😊😊
I think this is one of my favourite so far Nicola! Your excitement had me in the edge of my chair for each new find. Thank you so much for sharing these incredible finds with us.
I think the pipe was my favorite, although the light manufacturer's plate was a close second. Congratulations to the winners. I did order a copy of The Searcher with you on the cover directly from their website to add to the one I already have with Si on the cover. Maybe one day I'll get them both signed in person 😉
Hi Nicola. You make a happy man feel very old! When I was at Junior School I was the "Ink Monitor", and my responsibility was to go around the classroom filling the ink wells from a jug just like yours. I also remember being told, somewhere along the line, that Stephen's Ink had an advertisement on every platform on every railway station in the country. I also had a friend with the name of "Stephen Zinck" who took a lot of leg pulling!
I can't wait to see your finished crafting project of the brass lighting plate and wooden board 🙂. Thanks again for sharing another adventure. P.s I think Squirrel might be stealing the limelight 😀❤.
I love it when people show their excitement when they find treasures and you certainly found some beauties! My absolute favourite has to be the pipe, I have never seen one like it. Great video Nicola 😃💗 x
Look so exciting & fun.. My brother and his young son have taken up Metal Detecting and experience the same joy... The mystery and anticipation of what you uncover as you excavate as you discover what is revealed..
Classic! You, the river, the wildlife, the finds. What your followers have all come to love. Glad you were rewarded with such interesting objects. And thank you.
That earthenware ink jar is a beauty, topped off with that lovely pipe, the detail of the resting worker is outstanding. Nicola, that long piece of wood with the forked end would be useful for catching snakes, should you encounter one in your travels. Nice idea you have for that brass plaque.
So much excitement! I cannot pick a favorite. They are all fabulous in their own way! It is amazing that squirrels find new ways to the bird feeders. ❤

Love this video Nicola & your exciting experiences. That pole is awesome, the bottle with the lip & it's story - what a story; the plaque is a treasure & your enthusiasm is contagious! I don't even get muddy, so thanks for doing all the dirty work. You're a treasure yourself.
That was a wonderful video today !! There can never be to much excitement when mudlarking ! It's amazing how you can find items that are centuries apart in the same place !
That squirrel! 😍 Hope her cunning plan to get to the bird's food was thwarted. And those finds are worth getting excited over. Quite honestly, your videos wouldn't be anywhere as interesting and enjoyable if you clearly didn't love or get excited over finds. Not everything found is going to be that silver and gold some people seem to need to find to be happy. I'm far more interested in the age and attached history to a piece than it's marketable value. You said for us to be ourselves... good advice for you too! Be yourself, allow yourself to get excited over your finds! ❤️
Another enjoyable video ,Thank you the pipe man is very well dressed for a labourer , i wonder could he be commemorating some mountaineer . his pick axe could be a mattock ? the quantities mentioned on the light plague are huge. I think they produced the acetylene . by dipping water onto calcium carbide . bicycles and other vehicles did this early on before electricity. you would buy the calcium from your chemist ,and adjust the drip of water to vary the output . but they would have used a tiny amount not 16 lbs.. thank you also for the encouraging words to your audience on your conclusion, a nice vibe on a Sunday evening in GB .Wishing the same to you
We have one of these bottles with the label still reasonably intact on display (collecting dust?) in our lounge room. It does not have the “Stephens, London” marking at the base but instead has a Lovatt branding. We were so excited firstly to see your very similar bottle pulled from the Thames mud but then when you provided the picture of the label it took it to the next level. A real link across time and space. Cheers T

Details on his jacket and trousers I think...has anyone else remarked about his questionable activity? Anyways, always learning something new from you, and appreciate all of your efforts!

And last but not least, I always love your intros and outros - the sights and sounds of nature are so incredibly relaxing. Your videos are a real tonic for the soul. 🙏
Thank you! ❤️
WOWSA! Nicola, this was definitely a lucky day/night for you!!🍀🍀🍀 The objects you found were astonishing….The plaque, the pipe, the coin, the ink bottle and the wooden ship toilet seat(😉🤷🏻♀️😂) were all in perfect condition. Unfortunately, not the coin so much but nevertheless a great historical treasure. I truly felt your excitement as it became contagious. Thanks so much for taking us along the river Thames. GL and HH on your next adventure. Blessings and love send from Christine in Canada🙏🏼♥️👋🏼🇨🇦 Merry Christmas my dear…🎅🏼🧑🏻🎄🎄Btw, did you know that in Japan(Ramune)and in India(Banta) is still being sold in Codd neck bottles incl.the marble! Fascinating….👌🏼
Nicola, no matter how bad my day has been, I can always count on you to lift my spirits. Your shrieks of joy and the sheer thrill you exhibit is contagious. I often find myself making the very same noises though I’m sitting in my living room on my sofa with my dog. He thinks you and I have both gone mad.🤣Love you here in Tennessee!❤
This comment certainly lifted mine. 💜
I am from Tennessee too !
@@rosiamorrison6531 small world! I’m in Chattanooga. You?
I'm in Western NC. 😅
@@adamwhitt3600 I’m thinking about moving to Newport, TN to a tiny home. I lived in Knoxville 5 years-hated that city! You live in Gods country! I love to visit NC.
if i found this things like this id get very emotional!!! i love history !!! and to think them clay pipes have been there 200-300 years !! omg
Nicola, you have, and continue to bring a warming radiating light to the shadowy corners that we all stumble onto. Please know that we are out here with our magical mirrors, reflecting the light towards you, and all the extraordinary souls here on our “beautiful blue marble”. 🕊
That's a very magical thought ✨️ ❤️ thank you
Nicola, Sonia from America. CONGRATS on the new King and Queen. They are so cute together. I loved Diana, but Camilla is the one he should have originally married. Love her now. Anyway this is my favorite of your mudlarking now. I wish there was a place around here I could mudlark, but it would take months of research..
You take care, God Bless!
This was extraordinary , The Tames is befriending you . I think you have formed a great bond with it.
So many exciting things to share with all of the viewers , how lovely . Stay safe and keep enjoying the hunt every time , it is such a gift to us watching . Never boring , it is a joy to watch . ❤🧡💛💚💙
Thx Ralph xx
Nicola, how I love your eye for nature, particularly our feathered friends and that naughty but adorable little Sammy Squirrel' and the end of your video. Today, that pipe find was magnificent light manufacturer's plate! And that _glorious_ brown stoneware bottle! WOW! 😊 Naturally I adore sunflowers, so here is my best bunch in thanks for this simply wonderful mudlarking video! Best wishes to you, Wendi 🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻
Thank you! ❤️
Cannot believe how many outstanding finds, lovely ink and the pipe with the person on is exquisite, cannot wait to see the plaque mounted on the wooden object you found, keep up the good hunting
can't wait to see your new wall art. i have an old window frame w/glass still intact i'm turning into art for my living room. cost me nearly nothing yet will be a one-of-kind beauty. thanx for sharing your excitement when treasures turn up in the mud.
Congratulations on your fabulous treasure finds. I gasped as you pulled out the large pouring ink bottle! I just love the stoneware bottles, just lovely. 🥰🐕🇺🇸
Wow NICOLA!! One of the best thames mudlark outings i have seen. Love the plaque
Thanks Adam! ❤️
Loved The William Of Orange Coin. Also Stephens Inks Bottle..
What An Expedition !!!!
Well Done Buttercup !!!!
Ha ha ha, I am laughing my head off! Thank you for leaving in your "I am so excited" but hey, you convey the joys of Mudlarking!
Congratulations to the winners. Great finds Nicola.
Your Glee was a natural response. And absolutely made the video. I think we all felt your genuine excitement. After all it's not your fines that has made your channel. It's you being the genuine you. Keep it up!
Oh, I so enjoyed your excitement, Nicola! I do love the Imperial light plaque, and I totally agree with mounting it on your wooden piece. Love the stoneware master ink bottle!💖
Your the best & your videos always make me happy🧡⚘⚘⚘⚘⚘⚘thanks 🥰
Amazing finds Nicola! I was just thinking that Imperial Light plack would be perfect for the wooden mount and then you said it out loud. I don't blame you for the excitement. Many thanks as always for sharing your adventures with us all. :-)
Wow! Some amazing finds Nicola, one of our favourite videos of yours. We love them all. No need to apologies for been excited😊👍

I love your excitement, it's so contagious. I find myself in full suspence waiting for the tiniest hint of resemblance or a complete item. So awesome. You are a truly wonderful person, Nicola.
Thank you! ❤️
I love the night river lights that you film for us. I get a very serene feeling watching your videos in my dark bedroom. 🥰🐕🇺🇸
Good! ❤️
Absolute corker finds Nicola, plenty to be excited about! A-mazing finds. Oh and I love that Squirrel hired herself some scaffolding to get to the bird feeder 🥜🤣 too cute xx Teresa 🇦🇺❤
Thanks! You certainly know how to put on a show. Whopper of a vid! Also enjoy your vocab “sotted” and “resplendent” in one wrap up. Thanks also for the behind the scenes time consuming task of editing video. You do it with creativity and style. The world has changed so much, you’re helping to remind us of what’s truly important.
Clearly, the word of the day is EXCITEMENT! I think it will be in my mind all day now, thanks to this video, Nicola. What a wonderful series of finds during your excursions. I think any one of them is better than the next. Thanks for conveying that excitement and enthusiasm to us, Nic. Hope you are staying well and wish you the very best of holidays upcoming.
Thx Steve xx
Dear Nicola,
Your excitement and enthusiasm is palpable. I love this real because you were so real. Keep it going.
Love, Poppet
Thank you my poppet xx
Hello Nikola, I wish you and your family a nice 2nd Advent. I'm always amazed at the great and extraordinary things you keep discovering. The pipe is really super nice. and of course the rest too. have a nice week too. Greetings from Germany🌲
What an exciting episode!
Thank you!
Another enjoyable video ,Thank you
the pipe man is very well dressed for a labourer , i wonder could he be commemorating some mountaineer . his pick axe could be a mattock ? the quantities mentioned on the light plague are huge. I think they produced the acetylene . by dipping water onto calcium carbide . bicycles and other vehicles did this early on before electricity. you would buy the calcium from your chemist ,and adjust the drip of water to vary the output . but they would have used a tiny amount not 16 lbs..
thank you also for the encouraging words to your audience on your conclusion, a nice vibe on a Sunday evening in GB .Wishing the same to you
Thank you!
Cheers T
Yes I hadn't realised they had labels on originally!
My first time watching. I'm loving the video and I have subscribed 💓 💕 💖
Welcome Marcia!
Goodness Nicola you found some truly amazing things in this video!!! It would be hard for me to pick a favorite!! Thank you for always providing such a delightful way to wind down on a Sunday night!! These looks back at history are my favorite bedtime stories!! Much love from DeeAnn 🇺🇸
Hola Nicola ,me encanto video ,muy interesante y grandes tesoros.Bendiciones👏👏🥰
Thank you ❤️
👏🥰👍
Great finds! The pole was interesting and wonder how long it was exactly. And your little fellow on the pipe has me curious, what is going on with him? Details on his jacket and trousers I think...has anyone else remarked about his questionable activity? Anyways, always learning something new from you, and appreciate all of your efforts!
Haha yes I agree there is something odd I agree. I'm not sure if that's deliberate or the bad moulding..... maybe I need to do a poll later on my community page!
Amazing! The coin, so old! Love the ink bottle🤗ya did good Nicola 🎉your excitement was 😂 hilarious after all your finds 👍over the years. Good show🥳
What amazing finds Nicola. I love the objects you found and your wonderful history lessons. I think the Imperial Light is my favorite but love all of them. I think another saying came from something like your find and it is "I wouldnt touch him with a ten foot pole" just a thought. Until next week! Take care.
Some very unusual and wonderful finds!!!
I always love seeing your excitement over your finds Nicola! The finds today were amazing. I love the barge pole, the copper sign, the wooden door and pipe. Ofcourse there is the saying I wouldn't touch that with a barge pole! Lol Happy day from Australia 🇦🇺 😄
Knotty pine wood on the pole! Love the silver coin and the pipe. My favorites!
Such beautiful and unique finds today! What a great adventure.
Nicola is best mudlarking mummy.
Wow! Some terrific finds here. Do you find there is a difference between the type of items found next to the waterline and those near the wall? Well done Nicola. No wonder you were so excited😮

Wow ! what a lot of amazing finds, loved the little metal sign 💗
Spectacular brass plaque. Good as gold. On my own salty seashore it would be green for sure.
