I live just in front of this place. And you guys just made my dream come true!
When i was a child, i was allways observing from my window with my binoculars, this submarine, and the old ship wreck of Fragata Dom Fernando e Glória (now a museum), and along with a friend of mine we were allways planning on building a small boat to make it to the sub and the ship wreck, that we thought had a treasure on it.
We managed to build a small boat but we never got to cross the fence at the shipyard (Lisnave), still active at the time.
So, it was emotional for me to watch this adventure of yours. It was something i dreamed about doing in my chilhood years.
Thanx a lot for this! You guys are great!
Cheers! And keep up doing these great adventures! (y)

    •  6 років тому +16

Yes. I´ve checked out all your videos. Such cool places! The UFO village is awsome!
I do my small adventures once in a while, mostly for photography (but nothing like this one of yours).
Here in south side Lisbon there are lots of cool places to explore. Most of them abandoned.
Check out my pics on Instagram: @astroflexagram
You should come back for more. This place is a gold mine for explorers.
      Keep on the good spirit!
      Cheers.

As a former US fleet ballistic missile submarine sailor, the red light being on isn't necessarily a bad thing and doesn’t mean you’re at battle. The red light is used at night time when getting ready to go to periscope depth. Shortly before heading up to periscope depth, the control room and other rooms around the control room would be rigged for red for a short while to give the members of the ships control parties eyes a chance to adjust to being rigged for black since when you actually go to periscope depth the control room is rigged for black. Red light doesn’t affect one's night vision so you could easily go from red to black without needing to adjust and still be able to see perfectly.
Since light from the outside can come inside the boat through the periscope… light inside can easily go out through the periscope making a huge white light on an otherwise pitch-black ocean.

Despite breaking navy parameters, these gentlemen are teaching us about old sub marine construction and interior. Mostly retired sub will be chopping to pieces to keep its secret which has out of date. These rare subject that you won't get anywhere. Except in city of Surabaya-Indonesia, TNI AL (Indonesian Navy) donated their glorious soviet whiskey type sub marine for city sub marine museum. It's remarkable u boat killer on its time.
Thanks guys for your presentation and brave. Salute

Broer Nov there is an old submarine kept on the beach at Visakapatnam in India, as a submarine museum, for almost a decade now. Just opposite it, a few years ago, a retired TU 144, maritime reconnaissance aircraft (4 engine, twin propellers in each engine) has also been installed as an aircraft museum.

The crew is probably larger than you think. Most Navy submarines use what they called hot bunking, one person gets out another person goes in. we still do this in modern sub today as far as I know except for officers or captions. So a count of the bunk numbers is not the count of the crew most likely. Love the show guys just found the channel little bit ago.

What a nostalgic video... I visited this submarine many years ago when I was a child. I vaguely remembered the periscope and torpedo rooms. Back then I was still small, so I didn't reach the periscope to take a took, which was disappointing.
It's sad to see this submarine abandoned, it could be serving as a museum or something.

That would be spectacular, even if you only cruise around at the surface. To see everything in working order is just a unique experience. To feel, see and listen to a real old submarine in action.

Hats off to these explorers who get to show us what some of what we paid for before the government scraps it. Im not against military. This particular sub was the former to last of its class in use by the Portuguese Navy.
It was officially decomissioned in late 2005, and general manning and maitenance of the ship ceased shortly after.
The last one of it's class was decomissioned in 2010, and is/will be used as a museum ship for the Navy.
To my knowledge, the Paquistani Navy, which aquired one of these from Portugal in 1975, kept theirs operating until arround '06 also.

did you have a way to check if the atmosphere in there was safe to breathe? i'm thinking lack of oxygen, at least that's what we have to check when entering enclosed spaces on ships..

Stefan W this sub was decommissioned in 2005, so yes the air was bad... although the holes might have recycled a little

This sub, the NRP Delfim, entered service in 1st October 1969, and was officially decomissioned in December 2005, due to advanced stage of disrepair.
It was still manned in some sorts for a time, as it is said it was used for doning parts to it's sister ship, the Barracuda, decomissioned in 2010, which is posing to be a Navy Museum ship.

I hope one day I can do it. I am a great fan of the Soviet period, but also of the current one; as submarines, bunkers, tanks, aircraft and aerospace aircraft😍 Thank you very much for your videos that make me dream even more ♥️LOVE BY SARDEGNA ISLAD...ITALY♥️

Exploring the Unbeaten Path, context: this submarine and "his" brother were (are) involved in a correction scandel here in Portugal and in Germany, where they were built. The Portuguese Minister that authorised the transaction was Paulo Portas, then Minister of Defense, in 2002, and the money they used to buy those submarines were "diverted". In Germany people were caught, found guilty and went to prison, in Portugal well... they're all free inspite of being corrupts. And the part of "Irrevogável" (irrevocable, in english) it was a joke, because some years later, in 2013, now as a Vice-Prime Minister, he said he would leave the Government and that his decision was irrevocable. He lied. He came back.

Não são estes submarinos... Estes já são bastante antigos, e devo também salientar que os 2 que temos, que todos os portugueses fazem questão de gozar, são a única defesa marítima portuguesa ..
